She’s the reason Today is Daffodil Day – and if there’s one reason we should give generously to support the work of the Cancer Society this month, it’s this lovely lady here – Maggie Takawe. Maggie was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer in March 2022 and has been on a harrowing journey since then, fighting the

disease. Every step of the way during the last 18 months the Cancer Society has been supporting the Pāpāmoa resident and her family any way they can. The society still supports her to this day. “They provide me with counselling, transport to treatments, massages. Initially

they were following up with me every two weeks to see how I was. They also provided meals – they’re very supportive and always there if we need them.” Maggie, who has been able to return to her work caring for others, is still on her journey. She asks the public to give

generously to the organisation who has cared for her in her time of need. Look out for a street collector this Daffodil Day. Or donate online at: daffodilday.org.nz Read Maggie’s story on pages 6-7. Photo: John Borren.
