Window to the Bayâs past Memorial stained glass windows, thought to have been destroyed and lost forever in a fire that gutted Taurangaâs Holy Trinity Anglican Church 20 years ago, have been found. The originals that were damaged are now restored. âI was in Christchurch for a conference on the night of
the fire,â says Brian Hamilton, who was vicar at the time. âMy wife rang me at two in the morning to say the church was on fire.â The next day, he visited the blackened ruins. âIt was terrible to see. âThe insurance company hired demolition people to
take stuff away and the pieces of glass werenât thrown out but packed in a box. It was someoneâs idea that maybe they could be used again somehow. âI didnât really think they could.â Story continues on page 4. Photo: John Borren.
