Fast-paced,non-contact Accordingtothesport’snationalbody, NewZealandUltimate(NZU),ultimate frisbeeisafast,non-contactteamsport combiningelementsofnetball,soccerand Americanfootball,playedwitha175g flyingdisc.GovernedbyNZU,itfocuses onself-officiatingand‘SpiritoftheGame’ sportsmanship.

Whatfollowedwasalengthy, complicatedprocessbyBarry’sguardians –KatikatiOpenAirArt,whichtakecare ofthetown’smuralsandsculptures–to claiminsuranceforthedamageandwork withasculptortotravelfromtheSouth Islandtorepairhim.
KatikatiOpenAirArtcommittee memberSteveGravesonpreviouslytold KatikatiNewsthatwhileBarry’sseat hadbeenfixedlocally,Barryhadtobe repairedbysculptorDonaldPaterson, whonowlivedatthebottomoftheSouth Island’sWestCoast.
“IthasbeendifficultforDonaldto reallygiveatruecostuntilheseesthe totaldamagebothinsideandout,”said GravesonlastNovember,whenthe townheardBarrywouldn’tbebackfor Christmas.

Thescammersclaimpolicearerunningan undercoveroperationintofraudulentbanknotes circulatingfrommajorbanksintheTaurangaarea.
Victimsareinstructedtowithdrawcashfor “evidencepurposes”andaregivenascripttouseif bankstaffquestionthewithdrawals.
Thecallersthenaskforseveralbanknoteserial numbers,claimingtheyareneededtoverifywhether themoneyiscounterfeit.Afakeinsurancereference numberisalsosupplied.
Tocompletethescam,acourierissenttothe victim’shometocollectthewithdrawncash.
“Thisisascam,andnolegitimatepoliceofficerwill everaskyoutohandovermoneyforanyreason,” Grillisaid.
