On the rebound Katikati residents Sheanna Chadwick and Maddy Kilford are part of group of residents who are trying to re-establish the Katikati Basketball Club for the community. The pair said a club existed about 10 years ago but fizzled out. “Now we’ve both got full-time jobs we have time to give something

back to the community – so we’re keen to get the club up and running again,” said Kilford. This school term they’ve secured use of the Katikati College Action Centre for three sessions. On Wednesdays, an adults’ scrimmage from 6.30pm is for those 18-plus. People can just turn up and entry is $2.

On Thursdays, Kilford and Chadwick take a girls’ basketball session for Years 6-12 from 5pm-6.30pm. The event is free and all abilities were welcome. On Fridays, a 3X3 boys’ competition for Years 5-13 is from 3.30pm-7.30pm. Entry costs $10.

Chadwick said they’d initiated the three groups for this school term and would “see how it goes”. “We just wanted to see what kind of numbers we’d get in terms of the girls’ sessions, then we’ll look to start a team next year based on interest.” Read more on how to get involved on page 3.
