Family racquet “It’s a massive deal,” said Katikati Squash Club player Laura Young. She’s talking about Katikati Squash Club having nine ladies heading to national competitions in two grades this September. “We typically only have one or two superchamps teams each year [who head to the district event] because we don’t have huge

numbers of players playing in each grade,” said Laura. “So to have nine ladies going to nationals is awesome!” Pictured is daughter Kendall Young, 16, Laura Young and her twin daughters Mel and Emma Young, 14, who are part of the C and D grade teams. “It’s so special to be going to these tournaments with all three of

my daughters,” said Laura. Her and Emma are part of Katikati’s C grade team off to represent the Bay of Plenty at the National C grade Championship in Dunedin from September 10-14. At the same time, Kendall, 16, and Melanie, 14, will represent the Bay of Plenty at the Squash D Grade National Championship in

Invercargill with their combined team from Putaruru Squash Club. With 11 members to get to nationals, Katikati Squash Club is busy hosting fundraisers in August to net $11,000 to get everyone to the championships – and they need public support! Read more on page 5. Photo / Merle Cave
