Do we need revival in NZ? Yes! Definitely – understanding that revival is God coming firstly to the Church. Jesus said that His people were the ‘light of the world’ and the ‘salt of the earth’. He says in Luke 14:34, “Salt is good, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored?” The Church in our nation is no longer light and salt. How shall saltiness be restored? Through heaven-sent revival. Consider these things. 1. We are no longer a Christian nation. 2. We have passed significant laws that are contrary to the Word of God and the ways of God. 3. We have a horrific record with regards to abortion - on average, 43 unborn babies were murdered each day in 2011.
4. The family is no longer the corner stone of society. 5. Large areas of the Church have become caught up in ‘other gospels’ (Galatians 1:6-9). These include the gospel of healing, the prosperity gospel, the ‘experiences’ gospel, all of which contain truth but which are not the full or true gospel of the New Testament - which is a gospel of repentance. 6. Practices that are sourced in Eastern mysticism, new age and ancient mysti cism are now commonplace in the Church on the basis of the lie that “it is not the source that determines whether something is Christian or not, it is the intent”. 7. The Word of God has been deval ued in many of our Churches and
our Bible Colleges. Many teach that the Scriptures only contain the inspired words of God – yet God’s Word declares “all Scripture is Godbreathed and inspired”. (2 Timothy 3:16) 8. Often we have put our confidence in programmes, methods, strategies and personalities, rather than the Holy Spirit. 9. The false teaching of Replacement Theology pervades many of our churches and bible colleges. Do we need revival in NZ? Yes! As the Church goes, so goes the world. It’s never too late for restoration When he was on earth one of Jesus’ closest followers was a man called Peter. Although Peter was a bit of an impetuous man he was a good friend of Jesus and possibly more than many others was on his side and understood and followed his teaching. One of the saddest parts of the story of Jesus comes when he was undergoing a mock trial while be sentenced to death by crucixion on a cross One of his twelve friends, a man called Judas, had already betrayed him and handed him over to those who were seeking to kill him. Ten of the other eleven disciples just slink away but it does record that Peter stayed in the outer court of the place where Jesus was being tried. On three occasions people come up to him and questioned him about who he was and was he a follower of Jesus. On each occasion and with increasing emphasis he denies being Jesus’ friend and follower and goes off into the night
on his own. Prior to all this happening Jesus had said to him that some would leave him but Peter strongly denied that he would ever leave Jesus. Jesus had said: ”before the rooster crows you will deny me three times”. After he has denied Jesus, the rooster crows and Peter remembers what Jesus has said The next few days must have been devastating for Peter knowing that he had denied knowing this one who he had followed for three years. Days later when Peter is still dejected and has decided to go fishing a man appears on the shore
and calls to him. It is Jesus and a brief conversation follows in which Jesus restores Peter back as his friend despite what he has done. It may have been that you have been a follower of Jesus and you have denied him and have fallen away from his friendship. The good news for each of us today is that Jesus is in the restoration business and will take you back and restore you to being his follower if you ask him.
