Relationships matter Life is about relationships. They are the most important aspect of our lives and hopefully they are positively exciting! Christianity is first and foremost about relationships rather than rules. It is about the most important relationship of all – our relationship with the God who made us. We were created to live day-to-day in a relationship with God and until we find that relationship there will always be something missing in our lives. People often talk about there being an emptiness in their lives; or they want to be remembered for doing something signifi-
cant, or special and unique. Most people sense they have a destiny they need to fulfil but don’t know what it is or how to become satisfied in life. People try and fill this need in all sorts of ways from; owning more stuff, to greater thrills, sporting achievement, drugs – whatever takes their fancy. But it doesn’t satisfy the hunger and emptiness inside. The simple reality is that we were made with a desire to seek out and find God; the Old Testament says that God has put eternity in the hearts of people. This means that we will find ourselves drawn to know the answer to questions like: “What is life really all about? What is there beyond death? The Bible says that God has a plan for
A nation, a people, a destiny In our generation, against all human odds, the nation of Israel is back in the land God promised to them. Also, God is regathering Jewish people from the four corners of the world to bring them back to Israel, just as He promises consistently throughout the Old Testament. At a time when Israel did not exist as a nation, God declared through the prophet Zechariah in Zechariah 12:2: “Behold, I am about to make Jerusalem a cup of staggering to all the surrounding peoples.” This is happening now. We live in a time when the nations are on a collision course with God over Israel. God warns in Joel 3:1-2 that in the last days He will enter into judgment with the nations “on behalf of My people and My heritage Israel, because they have scattered them among the nations and have divided up My land.” This is happening now. As Gentile believers, we must support the Jewish people’s return to the land and the rebuilding of their nation. Today,
as throughout history, the growing tide of anti-Semitism seeks to destroy the Jewish State and to wipe it off the face of the earth. Scripture calls us as Christians to comfort Israel (Isaiah 40:1), to bless her (Genesis 12:3), to pray for her (Psalm 122:6) and to encourage her with God’s precious Word. We do not do this for our own blessing simply because God promises to bless those who bless her, and to prosper those who love her. Nor do we bless her because we believe her existence is to bring about some prophesied event. We stand with her, and for, her simply because God is with her and because He calls us to stand with Israel.
