The wonderful powers of Jesus In Matthew’s account of the life of Jesus he records in chapter 20:29-34 an account of when Jesus was leaving the town of Jericho and a large crowd followed him. This was not unusual but, on this day, two blind men were sitting by the roadside, and when they heard that Jesus was going by, they shouted, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!” When this happened the crowd became stirred up. The people got cross with the men and told them in no uncertain terms to be quiet and not bother Jesus. After all, they were only blind beggars. This had no effect on the men and they shouted all the louder, “Lord, Son of David, Jesus, have mercy on us!”
The wonderful thing was that, while the crowd had no time for them, Jesus did. He stopped and called them. “What do you want me to do for you?” he asked. “Lord, we want our sight,” the men replied. The bible says Jesus had compassion on them and touched their eyes. Immediately they received their sight and followed him. There are two wonders in this account. One is the miracle power of Jesus, in that men who were blind can now see and the other is that when others had no time for the men Jesus had compassion for them, and stopped and spoke to them. Today we serve the same Jesus, who has compassion on anyone needing help. If you have a need today you can confidently come to Jesus and know that he will hear and answer your call. The danger of different gospels In Galatians 1:6-9, Paul warns about those who preach a ‘different gospel’. He doesn’t leave the Galatian Church to decide by way of personal opinion or by personal interpretation what a different gospel looks like. He says that any gospel that is different from the gospel you received from me (Paul) is a false gospel! We know from Scripture that Paul preached the same gospel (good news) that the other disciples preached and which Jesus Himself preached. So, for the Galatian believers, their personal experience of the teachings of Paul was the standard or the authority by which they were to test what was the true gospel and what was false. Today, we have God’s Word, the Holy Scriptures, which ‘live and abide forever’, which teach us what gospel Jesus, the disciples and Paul preached. God’s Word is the standard and the authority for recognising the true gospel from the false. It is not a matter of opinion or interpretation because God’s Word from Genesis to Revelation is consistent in presenting God’s plan of redemption. What is seen in the sacrifices, ordinances and feasts in the Old
Covenant pre-figures or points towards the fulfilment of God’s plan of redemption in Christ and is seen in the gospel preached in the New Covenant. The true gospel which Paul declares in Romans 1:16 is “the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes” produces true converts, who will be part of the true Church that will be the remnant Bride of Christ. False gospels produce false converts, who will fill false churches, which will become the counterfeit One World Church and the false bride. The true gospel firstly addresses the issue of mankind’s sin (self-seeking rebellion). The true gospel addresses the consequences of man’s sin. The true gospel presents Jesus as the One who came to save us and to redeem us from our sins – not from our troubles, not from our sickness, not to give us our best lives now, not to give us self-esteem. Christian church and Israel explained I was interested and challenged by the recent article on the church page entitled: “The Christian Church and Israel.” I would like to present a few facts: God does not save nations but only individuals. See John 3:16 “Whoever believes” includes Jews and gentiles alike. If he did have a favourite nation it would surely not be the nation that rejected Jesus and finally caused Him to be crucified.
The prophecies of Jeremiah and Ezekiel have nothing to do with the return of Israel and the establishment of the modern state of Israel. The prophecies were written at the time when the people of Israel were in captivity in Babylon: 605 – 530 B.C. Jeremiah wrote about 600 – 580 B.C. Ezekiel about 590 – 570 B.C.
