Over the past few months, I spent four weeks island hopping through the Cyclades, and it's easy to understand why Greece has become one of the world's most beloved destinations. Before arriving, I expected to fall in love with the landscapes. What surprised me most was the people. On Kimolos, I woke each morning in a restored boat house tucked into a tiny cove, watching fishermen quietly set off for the day as the sun rose over the Aegean. In Folegandros, I'd wander into Chora each evening for a gyro and a beer, usually ending up in conversation with whoever happened to be sitting nearby. In Paros, a hotel tour unexpectedly turned into one of my favorite dinners of the trip after discovering that Sofia, who was showing me Parīlio and Cosme, had once worked at Meadowood in Napa Valley. Thousands of miles from home, it was one of those moments that reminded me how unexpectedly connected the travel world can be.

Whether people knew the word or not, I felt that spirit everywhere I went. Traveling solo across eight islands, I never once felt alone. I felt looked after. This collection isn't meant to be a definitive guide to the Cyclades. There are still islands I haven't explored, and I hope to change that soon. But after touring and staying at 38 remarkable hotels across the region, these are the places I'll continue recommending to friends, family, and clients for years to come. Some hotels become famous because of their views. Canaves Oia Suites has those, but it’s the feeling of staying here that keeps people coming back. Renovated in 2024, the architecture is timeless, the service is polished without feeling formal, and every suite is designed to make the caldera the center of the experience. For a first luxury trip to Santorini, it’s one of my easiest recommendations.
STARTING RATE From $1,200/night ROOM I'D BOOK Infinity Pool Suite The signature Canaves experience with a private infinity-edge pool overlooking the caldera and panoramic views of Oia.
Keith's Notes Don't assume every room has a pool. Unlike Andronis Boutique, private pools and jacuzzis aren't standard across every room category. If that's part of your Santorini vision, book accordingly. Request a higher-category suite. The suites higher on the caldera offer more privacy than those below. Don't underestimate the stairs. Even one of Oia's more accessible luxury hotels involves plenty of climbing. The views are worth it, but you'll definitely get your steps in. Keith's Take If someone tells me it's their first trip to Santorini and they want a hotel that's hard to get wrong, Canaves Oia Suites is always near the top of my list. It delivers the classic caldera experience with polished service, beautifully renovated suites, and an atmosphere that feels effortlessly luxurious.
ANDRONIS BOUTIQUE HOTEL A caldera classic Few hotels capture the essence of Santorini quite like Andronis Boutique. Set high above Oia's famous footpath, it combines iconic caldera views with genuinely warm hospitality. The atmosphere feels lively without ever becoming crowded, making it one of the easiest hotels to recommend for travelers experiencing Santorini for the first time.
BEST FOR Honeymoons Couples Cliffside Views Classic Santorini STARTING RATE From $900/night ROOM I'D BOOK Executive Suite with Heated Pool The sweet spot between privacy, space, and uninterrupted caldera views.
Keith's Notes Expect a serious workout. Andronis Boutique is spread across the cliffside, with numerous staircases connecting the suites, restaurants, and common areas. If mobility is a concern, this is worth considering before you book. Reserve dinner at Lycabettus Restaurant. The best tables disappear quickly during peak season. Not every traveler is looking for the same Santorini. If you'd prefer larger accommodations or a more family-friendly atmosphere, I'd also look at Andronis Arcadia or Andronis Concept. Both maintain the service and design that make the Andronis collection one of my favorites.
Keith's Take If I'm planning a Santorini honeymoon for younger couples, this is almost always my first recommendation. It delivers the iconic whitewashed architecture, dramatic caldera views, and lively atmosphere people imagine when they picture the island, while still feeling refined and romantic.
CANAVES EPITOME Santorini, reimagined Located just outside the center of Oia, Canaves Epitome trades the island's busiest footpaths for spacious villas, peaceful surroundings, and some of the best sunsets you'll find anywhere on the island. With everything from one-bedroom villas to expansive two- to five-bedroom residences, it's one of Santorini's strongest options for families and groups traveling together.

Keith's Notes Have dinner at ZUMA. It's one of the strongest dining experiences on Mykonos and worth planning an evening around, even if you're staying elsewhere. Check out the underground sports court. Fouquet's has a massive subterranean basketball court that's unlike anything you'll find at most luxury resorts. Walk to Paraga Beach or Scorpios. Being able to leave the car behind is one of the hotel's biggest advantages.
Keith's Take Fouquet's is one of my favorite recommendations for travelers who want the energy of Mykonos' south coast without sacrificing the comforts of a true luxury resort. I had the opportunity to tour the property while it was still under construction, so returning after it opened was especially rewarding. The finished resort exceeded even those early expectations.

GETTING AROUND Renting a car is the best way to experience Paros. One of the island's greatest strengths is its scale. It's big enough to offer distinct villages and beaches, yet compact enough that everything feels within reach. You'll spend less time in the car and more time enjoying the island.

NAOUSA AT YOUR DOORSTEP Many luxury hotels in Paros ask you to choose between staying on the beach or staying near Naousa. Cosme gives you both. Just outside town, it combines a true beachfront setting with easy walking access to some of the island's best restaurants, bars, and boutiques. ROOM I'D BOOK Cosmos Suite The standout choice for travelers who want Cosme at its very best. Keith’s Notes Don’t overlook the entry-level rooms. They’re among the largest standard accommodations I toured anywhere on Paros, making the starting rate easier to justify. Choose your suite based on your travel style. The Cosmos Suite is the hotel’s showpiece, but I actually preferred the Enastro Suite for travelers who value a little more privacy. Walk into Naousa for dinner. One of Cosme’s biggest advantages is being able to leave the car behind and enjoy the town on foot. Keith’s Take Cosme solves one of Paros’ biggest compromises. For travelers who want the energy of Naousa without giving up the feel of a true beachfront resort, it’s one of the smartest choices on Paros.

DAY TWO | DISCOVER Start the morning exploring the mountain village of Lefkes, then continue south to Aliki for lunch at To Balconi tou Aki, one of my favorite seaside tavernas on the island. Spend the afternoon swimming at the crystal-clear waters of Lageri Beach before returning to Lefkes for dinner at Santa Pacou Restaurant. Don't Miss: Sunset wandering the marble streets of Lefkes.

The fishing village feels refreshingly untouched, with some of Sifnos' best waterfront tavernas. Spend an afternoon doing nothing. NOS is one of the few hotels where lingering by your suite feels just as rewarding as exploring the island.
Keith’s Take NOS isn't trying to impress with excess. Everything feels intentional, from the architecture to the pace of the experience. If you're looking for a hotel that feels deeply connected to Sifnos rather than separate from it, this is one of my favorite stays in the Cyclades.

DAY TWO | EXPLORE Start the morning with the scenic coastal walk from Faros Beach to Chrissopigi Monastery before continuing to the island's pottery workshops and the postcard-perfect village of Kastro. Spend the afternoon hiking to Fykiada Beach, one of Sifnos' most beautiful and secluded stretches of sand, before returning for a relaxed evening. Don't Miss: Kastro at golden hour.
DAY THREE | SAVOR Enjoy one last slow breakfast before driving through Sifnos' interior villages. Settle in for a long seaside lunch at Lembesis overlooking Chrissopigi, spend the afternoon swimming in the island's crystal-clear water, and leave with the feeling that you've experienced Greece at its own pace. Keith's Tip: The best days on Sifnos aren't built around checking off sights. Leave room for long lunches, spontaneous swims, and afternoons that unfold without a plan.

Skinopi is perfectly positioned for exploring Milos' western coastline before the crowds arrive. Spend an evening at the lodge. The quiet setting and uninterrupted sea views are reason enough not to leave every night. Keith's Take Skinopi Lodge isn't trying to compete with Milos' dramatic landscapes—it complements them. The architecture blends seamlessly into the hillside, the pace is intentionally slow, and the setting makes it one of those rare hotels where returning each afternoon becomes part of the experience.

Seeing Milos from the water completely changes the experience, and Erema makes the perfect base. Plan beach time into your itinerary. While the hotel feels wonderfully secluded, some of Milos' best beaches are only a short drive away.

Grab a drink, wander the promenade, and settle into the slower rhythm that makes Pollonia so appealing.

It's one of the best Michelin-starred meals in Greece and worth planning your evening around. Explore Vouliagmeni. Walk to the lake or enjoy dinner in town before returning to the calm of the peninsula.
Keith's Take Astir Palace feels like two vacations in one. Spend your mornings by the sea, your afternoons exploring Athens, and return each evening to one of Europe's finest urban resorts. Few hotels balance city and beach this effortlessly.

Relax at one of the city's beautiful beachfront resorts, enjoy a long seaside lunch, then stroll Astir Marina before dinner overlooking the Saronic Gulf. Don't Miss: Reserve lunch or dinner at Pelagos or Manko and spend time exploring the peninsula at Four Seasons Astir Palace.
DAY THREE | LOCAL LIFE Start the morning with coffee in Pangrati before browsing the boutiques of Kolonaki. Head to Kallithea for what ended up being my favorite gyros in Greece, then spend the afternoon wandering the National Garden or visiting the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center before one final dinner beneath the Acropolis. Keith's Tip: Don't rush through Athens on your way to the islands. Give the city at least two full days and you'll discover some of Greece's best hotels, restaurants, and cultural experiences.
