SPRING 2026

TALENT GETS HIM NOTICED. LONGEVITY GETS HIM A CAREER.

When scouting junior hockey, NHL teams aren’t just looking for a high-scoring season, they want to know which prospects are built to survive the grueling physical and mental demands of a long term, elite career.

Getting there is one thing, staying there is something entirely different.

Epitome combines known genetic performance markers with behavioral modeling to quantify physical recovery ceilings and mental strength/resilience - the very fundamentals of long term elite performance.

Epitome doesn’t just identify player potential, it informs highly-personalized training routines designed to maximize a player’s natural predispositions. By aligning athletic workload with biology, athletes can train harder, recover faster, and stay on the ice longer.

The genetic data offers fresh insights into player potential and limitations, allowing for truly individualized training. The ‘Hockey Attitude’ score is particularly crucial for understanding how young athletes manage adversity both on and off the ice.

- Mike Johnston, VP & General Manager, Portland Winterhawks (WHL) /Former NHL Head Coach

The predisposition report significantly enhances talent assessment and provides unique insights that support personalized skill development. There is immense value here. - Willie Desjardins, Head Coach and GM, Medicine Hat Tigers (WHL)

GIVE SCOUTS THE DATA THEY WANT. GIVE YOUR SON THE TRAINING HE NEEDS. STOP TRAINING IN THE DARK. BUILD A SIGNATURE THAT LASTS A CAREER.

Message From The Publisher

Welcome to our final edition of the Hockey Edmonton Magazine for the 2025-26 season.

In this issue, we are featuring the 60 gold medal winning teams from 2026 Quikcard Edmonton Minor Hockey Week (QEMHW.) Additionally, we have included a number of “spotlights” on players who won gold medals this year.

We have also included a wonderful montage of photos taken at QEMHW, including photos taken at the U9 Outdoor Games which took place at Cattail Crossing. Thanks to MVP Team Photos for these great photos!

We also have a special feature on the three Wayne Gretzky Award winners. This award is given annually to a participant in the EFHL, Elite and Junior programs, players who exhibit sportsmanship, scholastic achievement, and community involvement.

With the hockey season winding down, we would like to wish everyone the best of luck in playoffs, or any other special tournaments. Have a great spring/summer, and see you back in the rinks in the fall!

Sincerely,

Message From The President of

WAYNE GRETZKY

2026 Award Winners

- PRESENTED BY THE EOCF -

Hockey Edmonton and all the member organizations take pride in helping to develop character both on and off the ice. Quikcard Edmonton Minor Hockey Week takes that philosophy forward by recognizing three wellrounded athletes who make an impact in the community with Wayne Gretzky Awards. In addition to the honour, Wayne Gretzky Award recipients receive $750 from ATB Financial.

Tyson

Guinchard

ELITE WINNER

Tyson Guinchard, of the KC Spurs, is a Grade 10 student recognized for his outstanding academic achievement, maintaining grades above 90% across all subjects. Last year, he received his school’s award for the student most dedicated to their studies and is planning to pursue a future in law at the University of Alberta.

Tyson is also deeply involved in his school and community. He leads the speech and debate club, helping members improve public speaking, body language, and communication skills, tutors peers in math, and volunteers at school events such as a French carnival highlighting Quebec history.

On the ice, Tyson has demonstrated strong leadership and teamwork as captain of the U15 AA KC Voyageurs and has been recognized for his sportsmanship in past seasons. Through his dedication in academics, athletics, and community involvement, Tyson exemplifies the values of the Wayne Gretzky Award.

Rehaan Chaglani EFHL WINNER

Rehaan Chaglani, of North West Zone, is a U15 student-athlete recognized for excellence in academics, athletics, and community leadership. Maintaining an average above 95% at Elmer S. Gish School, Rehaan has received the school’s Academic Excellence Award and consistently sets a strong example for his peers.

On the ice, Rehaan demonstrates leadership and sportsmanship as team captain of his hockey team, and he has also excelled in basketball, badminton, and tennis. Off the ice, he is deeply committed to giving back, leading school fundraisers for the Ben Stelter Foundation and the World Partnership Walk, volunteering at food banks, tutoring younger students, and visiting seniors. Through his dedication, character, and compassion, Rehaan exemplifies the values of the Wayne Gretzky Award: leadership, sportsmanship, academic excellence, and community involvement.

Maddie Butterfield JUNIOR WINNER

Maddie Butterfield, of the Edmonton Wolves (AJFHL), is a student at the University of Alberta studying Kinesiology, Sport and Recreation with a specialization in sport performance. Maintaining a 3.9 GPA and earning the Dean’s List every year, Maddie balances academic excellence with high-level hockey, competing for the Edmonton Wolves while pursuing her goal of attending medical school.

Beyond academics and athletics, Maddie is deeply committed to giving back to her community. She works as a research assistant at the Stollery Children’s Hospital, coaches youth hockey, and volunteers with organizations including Special Olympics, Free Play for Kids, and the Edmonton Female Hockey Alliance, helping young players develop both on and off the ice. Through her leadership, dedication, and service, Maddie exemplifies the values of the Wayne Gretzky Award: academic excellence, athletic achievement, leadership, and community involvement.

Minor Hockey Week 2026

CANADIAN TIRE POND HOCKEY CLASSIC Highlights from the

As part of Quikcard Edmonton Minor Hockey Week 2026, U9 players took to the ice, outdoor pond hockey style. During the weekend of January 10 and 11, U9 minor hockey teams played 74 games on 20 mini outdoor rinks at Cattail Crossing Golf Course. The event was pure hockey nostalgia, bringing 2,400 total players to the ice with scenic pathways and snowbanks between rinks and bundled families enjoying hot chocolate while they watched their children play.

It was all about embracing the spirit of hockey and creating unforgettable memories in a magical winter setting. Shown here are some photos from the event, which truly capture the essence of hockey.

Thank you!

Together we raised a record-breaking $682,000* at the 15th annual Stollery Family Day Classic! Scoring a total of more than $6 million since 2011!

The four-day, four-on-four invitational tournament is about kids playing the game they love, having fun and giving back in support of the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation and Hockey Edmonton. Proceeds will support priority needs at the Stollery today, while also supporting important patient and family-centred care programs like Giving Comfort. The Giving Comfort program provides families with free essential and comforting items — including toiletries, cozy blankets and activities for kids — to make unexpected hospital stays feel a little more manageable and a lot more caring.

Thank you to Steve Serdachny, the Stollery Family Day Classic organizing committee and the many volunteers, participants, sponsors and donors who make this event possible!
