Beignets, bananas foster, snowballs, hurricanes, pralines, and king cakes – all staples of New Orleans and all so sweet. But what if New Orleans didn’t have its sugar? Things wouldn’t be so sweet. And if New Orleans didn’t have its Sugar Bowl, many other things in the city wouldn’t be so sweet.

The Allstate Sugar Bowl, a staple of the New Orleans sports community since 1935, celebrated its 90th anniversary in 2023. The Bowl is well-known throughout the country for bringing the best in college football to New Orleans – 29 different national championship college football teams have traveled to New Orleans thanks to the Sugar Bowl, as well as 21 Heisman Trophy winners and 167 future members of the College Football Hall of Fame.

However, less well-known are the Bowls’ other contributions to the region.

Every year, the Sugar Bowl supports the community through the hosting and sponsorship of local sporting events, recognition events and scholarships. In the last decade, the Sugar Bowl has hosted nearly 500 amateur athletic events, honored thousands of local athletes, donated over $5 million in support of teachers, and awarded over $1 million in scholarships. In the new College Football Playoff (CFP) era, the Sugar Bowl has hosted six CFP games and the 2020 CFP National Championship, an event made possible by a nearly $6 million contribution by the Sugar Bowl Committee.

Additionally, the Bowl hosted a season-opening kickoff game in 2022, and added a music event with the legendary Garth Brooks in 2023. Drawing nearly one million fans into the region to experience Louisiana culture, all Sugar Bowl events over the past 10 years have generated an economic impact of over $2.5 billion and nearly $200 million in direct tax revenue.

IN MY

DINING COUNTS AS AN OUTDOOR SPORT.

20 years of Good Hands Nets

Two decades ago, Allstate raised the first Good Hands Net. And since then, we’ve made every point count. Because for every kick made at participating schools, we donate to scholarship funds for student athletes across all sports.
