SUDBURY WOLVES MEDIA / SCOUTING NOTES
Sunday, January 18th, 2026 | Sudbury Wolves vs. Rouyn-Noranda Huskies
For the first time in franchise history, the Sudbury Wolves and RouynNoranda Huskies will meet in an interleague matchup. The historic contest offers both teams a unique opportunity to test themselves against unfamiliar competition, battle for two valuable points, and represent their respective leagues on a new stage. The Wolves enter today’s matchup sitting 4th in the Central Division with a record of 16-25-1-0, including a 13-9-1-0 record at home, and a 3-16-0-0 record on the road. The Huskies are currently positioned 2nd in the Western Conference with a 23-11-4-2 record. At home, the Huskies have a 13-4-4-0 record with a road record of 10-7-0-2.
Now in his overage season, Thomas Verdon has been a key contributor to the Huskies’ success. The American-born centre has driven Rouyn-Noranda’s offence, recording an impressive 55 points in 40 games to lead the team in scoring and rank sixth across the QMJHL. A consistent source of offence throughout his five seasons with the Huskies, Verdon currently ranks 11th on the franchise’s all-time points list, a mark he is well-positioned to climb before the season’s end. Beyond his offensive production, Verdon provides a strong veteran presence, serving as an assistant captain and setting the standard both on and off the ice. As the season progresses, Verdon will look to make the most of his final year in junior hockey by helping the Huskies remain among the league’s top teams and secure a playoff spot.
Since arriving in Sudbury just over a week ago, JC Lemieux has made a significant impact with the Wolves. The Gatineau, QC native has been nothing short of exceptional through his first five games, recording four goals and five assists. Lemieux’s strongest performance came in the Wolves’ most recent outing, where he was named first star after posting a goal and three assists in a dominant 7-2 win over the OHL-leading Flint Firebirds. His strong play has earned him a spot on the newly formed Wolves' first line alongside Adam Nemec and Jan Chovan, a trio that has quickly become a driving force of the team’s offence. Recently ranked 184th among North American skaters in NHL Central Scouting’s Midterm Draft Rankings, Lemieux will look to continue his strong play as he helps lead the pack in their push toward the playoffs

While I cannot confirm checking each and every one of the schedules for the 52 years that the Sudbury Wolves have competed in either the Ontario Hockey League, or the Ontario Major Junior Hockey League, or the Ontario Hockey Association, I can safely say that contest against out of league opponents that count towards regular season standings are rare.
The 2025-2026 season sees the Wolves playing a home and home tete a tete (seems only fair to call it that, given the opponent) with the Rouyn Noranda Huskies of the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League. The teams will faceoff Sunday afternoon in northern Ontario, with Sudbury making the trek to La Belle Province one week later, on January 25th
For as much as this does not often happen, there is precedent. On February 13th (2000), the Wolves blanked the Huskies 4-0 at the Old Barn on Elgin Street, with Norm Milley, Derek MacKenzie, Taylor Pyatt and Mike Vaillancourt providing the offensive support for netminder Mike Gorman.
On February 20th (2000), the Wolves completed the sweep, battling back from a 4-2 deficit after two and receiving third period strikes from Derek MacKenzie and Norm Milley before Dennis Wideman sent the visitors home happy, scoring in overtime.
