SUDBURY WOLVES MEDIA / SCOUTING NOTES
Friday, January 16th, 2026 | Sudbury Wolves vs. Flint Firebirds
Today, the Firebirds and Wolves are set to meet for the first time this season. These two clubs met twice last year, with Sudbury getting the victory in both meetings. Tonight, Sudbury looks to maintain their edge over Flint while the Firebirds look to flip the script and take down the Wolves on home ice. The Wolves enter today’s matchup sitting 4th in the Central Division with a record of 15-25-1-0, including a 12-9-1-0 record at home, and a 3-16-0-0 record on the road. The Firebirds are currently positioned 1st in the West Division with a 29-10-2-2 record. At home, the Firebirds have a 16-5-1-0 record with a road record of 13-5-1-2.
Now in his fourth OHL season, draft-eligible forward Alex Kostov has elevated his game to a new level. Through 37 games this season, Kostov has recorded 48 points, ranking second on the Firebirds in scoring while also surpassing last year’s production at a 1.3 points-per-game pace. Beyond his offensive impact, Kostov has taken on a leadership role as an assistant captain, underscoring his importance to the team both on and off the ice. His strong season earned him a selection to the Connor McDavid OHL Top Prospects Game just two days ago, where he helped lead the West Prospects to a 4-3 victory over the East Prospects. Kostov was also recently ranked 117th among North American skaters in NHL Central Scouting’s Midterm Draft Rankings, a position he will look to build upon as he continues to play a key role in keeping the Firebirds atop the Western Conference.
Draft-eligible forward Rowan Henderson has been a key part of the Sudbury Wolves’ lineup this season. In just his second OHL campaign, Henderson has earned the coaching staff’s trust in all situations, providing steady offence at roughly a half-point-per-game pace while playing a significant defensive role, including on the penalty kill. Henderson also serves as assistant captain and the lone remaining member of the Wolves' leadership group named at the start of the season. Henderson was recognized for his strong two-way play, being selected to represent the East Prospects at the Connor McDavid OHL Top Prospects Game earlier this week. He was also ranked 191st among North American skaters in NHL Central Scouting’s Midterm Draft Rankings. As the season continues, Henderson will look to raise his draft stock while helping lead the Wolves to a playoff berth.

LOOKING TO EXTEND VERSUS DIVISIONAL LEADERS
by Randy Pascal
The Wolves are riding a three-game winning streak versus the Flint Firebirds as the teams prepare to meet in Sudbury on Friday night. Extending that to within one game of the local juniors franchise record opposite their Michigan counterparts will not be easy, given that Flint both leads the West Division standings with an impressive mark of 29-9-2-2 – and added to their roster at the trade deadline.
Jacob Battaglia (formerly Kingston) and Kevin He (formerly Niagara) step into a powerful Flint roster, sliding in at four and five in the team scoring race behind the trio of Nathan Aspinall, Alex Kostov and Jimmy Lombardi. The Firebirds currently sit as the third highest scoring team in the OHL (159 goals), which means that a 33 streak that has seen Sudbury never post a shutout against Flint (or the Detroit Jr Red Wings or Plymouth Whalers) is not likely to change this year.
GAME NIGHT & PROMOTIONS
Friday’s game is Bell Let’s Talk night, with Bell Let’s Talk for the first 1000 fans in attendance! Bell will also be on site with opportunities towards great prizes for Wolves Nation.

LAST TIME OUT: The Firebirds erased a two-goal de cit and tied the game at three but the Barrie Colts pulled away and beat Flint, 5-3 on Thursday night at Sadlon Arena. Charlie Murata, Darian Anderson and Rylan Fellinger all scored in the loss for Flint.
BACK ON THE ROAD: Friday's game is the second of three games on the road in the span of four days and the second of four-straight away from home for the Firebirds. Flint is 13-5-1-2 on the road this season and the 29 points it has earned in road games is the second-most in the OHL, trailing only the Ottawa 67's, who have earned 31. Ottawa has played 24 road games while Flint has played 21.
MURATA BREAKING OUT: Charlie Murata scored in the rst period on Thursday night and now has points in four straight games. It's the longest point streak of Murata's rookie year and it comes after a 13-game point drought. He started his OHL career with points in four of his rst ve games, including a three-game point streak, which has now been surpassed. Murata was drafted by Flint with the eighth pick in the 2025 OHL Priority Selection.
HE PRODUCES : Kevin He recorded an assist on Thursday in Barrie and now has four goals and ve assists in seven games since being traded to Flint. He has points in six of his seven games as a Firebird and in four-straight games. The Winnipeg Jets prospect has 18 goals and 22 assists in 35 combined games between Flint and the Niagara IceDogs.
SUDBURY'S STRUGGLES: The Wolves enter Friday's game on a ve-game losing streak and sitting in a tie for eighth place in the Eastern Conference. Sudbury has not won since beating North Bay, 6-2, on January 2. Despite this, the Wolves have a winning record at home of 12-9-1-0. They are just 3-16-0-0 on the road this season.
ODDS AND ENDS: Nathan Aspinall leads the OHL with 58 points, ve more than any other player in the league...former Wolf Kieron Walton is tied for second in the league with 53 points. He was traded to the Peterborough Petes at the trade deadline...the Firebirds are 3-4-1-0 all-time in Sudbury...the Wolves next game will be an interleague game against the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies of the QMJHL.
UP NEXT: The Firebirds will take Saturday o before nishing out their road trip on Sunday in North Bay against the Battalion. Puck drop is set for 2 pm at the Boart Longyear Memorial Gardens.
