Windsor Spitfires vs Sudbury Wolves Game #500: Friday, February 6, 2026
Pre-Game
SUDBURY WOLVES MEDIA / SCOUTING NOTES
Friday, February 6th, 2026 | Sudbury Wolves vs. Windsor Spitfires
The Sudbury Wolves are set to face off against the Windsor Spitfires for the second time this season. A matchup that features two familiar faces in Alex Pharand and Nathan Villeneuve. The two teams faced off last in September when the Spitfires took the 4-0 win. The Wolves are coming off a three-game road trip, coming back with two of six total points. While Windsor is currently in a hunt to secure the top position in the Western Conference for the playoffs, the Wolves are looking to take an important two points. The Wolves enter today’s matchup sitting 4th in the Central Division with a record of 19-27-2-0, including a 14-9-2-0 record at home, and a 5-18-0-0 record on the road. The Spitfires are currently positioned 1st in the West Division, with a 32-115-2 record, a road record of 15-8-1-1
As the Windsor Spitfires continue to push for the top spot in the West, Liam Greentree has played a major role in Windsor’s offensive production this season. Through 35 games this season, the forward has recorded 23 goals and 22 assists. The team’s captain’s success goes beyond the OHL. Selected by the LA Kings 26th overall in the 2024 NHL draft, most recently, he was acquired by the New York Rangers in the blockbuster Artemi Panarin trade. Greentree also represented Canada at the World Juniors in December, playing in three games and helping Canada bring home the bronze medal on an international stage. On January 29th, 2026, against the North Bay Battalion, he moved into third place on the Spitfires’ all-time points list.
Goaltender Björn Bronäs has been standing on his head for the Wolves as of late. In 17 games played, he has captured nine wins under his belt. Four of those wins came from his last six starts, in which he has posted a 0.910 save percentage and a 3.09 goals against average. The NHL draft-eligible goaltender is coming off a huge 39-save win in the nation’s capital on Sunday, earning him the OHL First Star of the Night as well as first star of the game. Bronäs’ recent strong performances have earned him more responsibility, giving him the nod for bigger games, proving he’s ready for when it matters most to help propel the team into the playoffs.

TWO BIG TESTS AND SOME POINTS ON THE TABLE by Randy Pascal
The Sudbury Wolves have a “building up to the big game” three-game weekend in reverse on tap as they prepare for a home matchup with the Western Conference leading Windsor Spitfires before taking to the road on Saturday to face the Peterborough Petes (#4 in the East) and the Oshawa Generals (dead last in the league) the next day.
AVOIDING FIRE-WAGON HOCKEY AGAINST WINDSOR A MUST by Randy Pascal
Some of the highest scoring affairs in the thirty year history of matchups between Sudbury and Windsor have taken place in the past two seasons and while the Wolves are riding a three-game home winning streak against the Spits into the encounter on Friday, it’s highly unlikely a run and gun affair would do them much good against a team tied for second in league scoring this year.
The Wolves would be well-served by a contest that resembles their 2-1 win over the Spitfires on home ice back on January 2nd (2004), a game that tied the record for fewest combined goals when these teams meet in the nickel city. With Patrick Ehelechner turning aside 34 of the 35 shots that he faced, Sudbury overcame a 1-0 deficit heading to the third, pulling out the win thanks to snipes from Sean Langdon and Rafal Martynowski in the final ten minutes of play.
And for as much as it is equally unlikely, coach Scott Barney and company would clearly be ecstatic with revisiting a 3-0 whitewashing of Windsor that took place on December 12th (2014), one of only two home shutouts the locals have registered versus the Spits in 77 battles to date. On that evening, Troy
Timpano enjoyed one of his best ever outings with the Wolves, recording a 43-save shutout as Chad Heffernan, Matt Schmalz and Danny Desrochers took care of the offense.
GAME NIGHT & PROMOTIONS
Friday’s game against Windsor is proudly sponsored by Laurentian University. Friday’s game is Women in Sport Night, as the Wolves will honour women who have made contributions to Sudbury’s sporting community. Friday also marks the return of former Wolves players Alex Pharand and Nathan Villeneuve, who make their final stop in Sudbury with the Spitfires this season.
LOOKING AHEAD
Following tonight’s matchup, the Wolves will hit the road for three games beginning Saturday, February 7th at 7:05 p.m. in a rematch against the Peterborough Petes. They will then make the quick trip south to Oshawa to face off against the Generals in an afternoon matchup on Sunday, February 8th, at 2:05 p.m. The pack finish off their road trip down the road in Sault Ste Marie when they go head-to-head against the red-hot Soo Greyhounds on Wednesday, February 11th at 7:07 p.m. Fans can follow the Wolves on the road by streaming games live with FloHockey at www.flohockey.tv.
The Wolves will return home on Friday, February 13th, against their division rivals, the Brampton Steelheads. Puck drop is set for 7:05 p.m. On Monday, February 16th, the Wolves are welcoming the Niagara IceDogs to town for a Family Day game set for 2:05 p.m. Tickets for all Wolves home games are available online at https://mpv.tickets.com and at the Sudbury Arena Box Office.
