By MARK FRANCISCO

THE Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) 10 has sounded alarm on the high content of fecal matter in Macajalar bay, particularly in the beaches of Opol, Misamis Oriental. In an interview with this writer, EMB 10 director Reynaldo Digamo said that high fecal coliform content in that part of the bay has remained consistently high for the past five years and has not subsided in the latest test conducted only this year. “The allowable coliform content as determined by our health authorities is

only 50 mg/100 liters. But in the bathing beaches in Opol, the coliform is 1,000 mg/100 liters. That’s as high as before Boracay was rehabilitated in 2018,” Digamo said, referring to the famous

island resort in Luzon that was shut down by then President Rodrigo Duterte that year and totally cleaned for seven months before being allowed to reopen. See EMB, page 11

Rolito Peñaloga, chieftain of Bunawan Ancestral Domain Management Council, Inc. (BMADMCI), said this is the first time that the Australian firm Ten

Sixty Four Limited (ASX: X64) which they allowed to partner with PMC to betray the trust and confidence of the tribal groups. X64 used to be named Medusa Mining Limited (ASX: MML). “What they did is economic sabotage and must be held criminally liable,” Peñaloga said after he learned that the foreign mining partner and its trading arm Komo Diti owe PMC at least US $4,837,221 intended to pay the royalties of indigenous peoples groups as well as the company’s

operations cost Engr. Ferdinand A. Cortes, PMC Vice President for Operations, said the company had shipped gold and silver dore bars last February 3 to Hongkong. Under the Sales and Purchase Agreement, Komo Diti should pay the proceeds within three working days from receipt or until February 15. But Cortes disclosed the intended payment was not remitted and later discovered X64 and KomoDiti deliberately did not pay.
