MANILA – Amid the continuous weather disturbances caused by the shear line and low-pressure area, the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) is ramping up its relief and rescue operations. As of Jan. 17, the PRC has provided hot meals to 16,722 individuals in the provinces of Agusan del Norte, Davao de Oro, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga City, Palawan, Northern and Eastern Samar, Misamis Occidental, Oriental Mindoro, Sulu and Gingoog City in Misamis Oriental. PCG rescues 11 from sinking vessel in Sulu By TEOFILO GARCIA, JR.
ZAMBOANGA CITY – Personnel of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) have rescued 11 people from a half-submerged woodenhulled vessel in Sulu province, a top PCG official reported Tuesday. C ommo dore Marco Antonio Gines, the PCG Southwestern Mindanao district commander, said rescued were the 11 crew members of MV Melyn Express, which ran aground near Tanjung Pier Monday in Barangay Kajatian in Indanan town, Sulu. CAGAYAN DE ORO — The city government has teamed up with the local FilipinoChinese community for the celebration of the Lunar New Year, City Information
Office Ivy Guantero said as dancers performed a dragon dance to the rhythm of cymbals, gongs and a big at City Hall on Tuesday. “This is a week-long celebration. Together with the Filipino-Chinese com-
munity here, we are hoping the Year of the Rabbit will usher prosperity and hope,” she said. Guantero noted that the local business community took a beating in the past two years due to the CO-
VID-19 pandemic. She said they are hoping the Year of the Rabbit would usher in a rebound for local businesses. “We are crossing our fingers and wish the rabbit will be kind to us this year,”
