CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – The local police has ordered an investigation into reports that criminal syndicates had already penetrated the premier capital of Cagayan de Oro City in Northern Mindanao. The police intelligence bureau identified the criminal syndicates as the “Balane Robbery Group” and the “Alferez Robbery Group,” Cagayan de Oro City Police Chief Supt.Graciano Mijares said on Thursday. “We are validating the information as we investigate on the report,” Mijares said. The allegation cropped up following the arrest of two suspects in the robbery of an ice plant in Barangay Puerto on the east coast of Cagayan de Oro City last

Wednesday. Police arrested the two suspects identified as Dante Mesias and Dominador Mangubat during a raid of their hideout in El Salvador, 20 kilometers west of Cagayan de Oro City on Thursday. Inspector Ariel Pontillas of the El Salvador police said the court has convicted Mesias of three counts of robbery while Mangubat was facing a series of robbery and illegal drug trade cases. Pontillas said that the raiding team recovered P 3,000, part of the P 17,000 loot that the suspects carted away from the ice plant that they robbed in Bugo. A check of the suspects’ profile showed that Mesias is from Pasay City and Mangubat hails from El Salvador. The two were

known to be members of the “Balane Robbery Gang” responsible for a series of bank robberies in Luzon. Mijares said that the alleged team leader identified as Exequiel Aniscal was able to elude arrest during the raid and is now an object of a manhunt. Police records showed that the court also convicted Aniscal in a series of holdup and armed robberies in Northern Mindanao. The police has arrested Aniscal in Balingasag, Misamis Oriental some time ago where he was convicted with illegal possession of firearms. Aniscal was serving a prison term when transferred to Bohol for possible cases there but bolted from prison and came back to Misamis Oriental, Mijares See police, page 7

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – City Councilor Candy Darimbang has criticized City Mayor Oscar “Oca” Moreno’s failure to convene the local Traffic Management Bureau (TMB) resulting to the growing traffic disorder here. Darimbang questioned Moreno’s inaction in spite of the City Council’s passage of the Resolution No. 11486 – 2013 on October 2013 allowing the City Mayor to immediately convene and appoint members of the local TMB. Until today, Mayor Moreno has not acted on the resolution while the people of Cagayan de Oro continue to suffer the menace of the traffic mess, Darimbang added. She said that the resolution states that the traffic problems and issues in the city should be resolved in a rational manner, be guided by facts, and should be

Tourists turn volunteers in typhoon-hit Bantayan Island SURIGAO CITY -- They came to visit different tourist spots in the country, but typhoon Yolanda changed their plans. Two French Nationals interviewed by MindaNews said they have opted instead to do volunteer work for the typhoon survivors, and even shelled out some cash to buy relief goods the day after Yolanda ravaged the Visayas. Martial Guilhou and his girlfriend Amaya Neuhaus arrived in Cebu from Paris, France a day before Yolanda battered islands in central Philippines and left thousands dead and several thousands more homeless. Friends advised them to stay put because of the typhoon. “Our plan for our first day is to go to Siquijor, but because of the storm signal, we stayed in Cebu,” Guilhou, a businessman, said.

After Yolanda, Guilhou and Neuhaus, a psychologist, learned that Tacloban City was badly damaged. But he was told him another island in Cebu -Bantayan – was also badly hit, and it was there that Guilhou and his friends went after buying some relief goods in Cebu. Amaya and friends became busy that day buying and repacking goods for the victims. They used a friend’s cars and went to the island via ferry. “We saw a lot of ruined houses damaged by the typhoon,” Guilhou told MindaNews. GenSan gives P3.5 million cash for ‘Yolanda’ victims GENERAL SANTOS CITY -- The city government will deliver tomorrow (Saturday) P3.5 million in financial assistance to the local governments of Ormoc and Tacloban cities to assist the ongoing relief operations for survivors of super typhoon “Yolanda” in the area. Lawyer Arnel Zapatos, city administrator, said Friday City Mayor Ronnel Rivera will leave for Eastern Visayas to personally hand over the financial assistance to the distressed local government units. A plunder case worth millions of pesos has been filed long time ago against Senators Johnny Enrile, Jinggoy Estrada, Bong Revilla and thirty five others but these people are still roaming around the country, sometimes even abroad, while many poor citizens who robbed small matters are thrown to jail outright. Why is this? About the worst scenario is on the surface in form of the second plunder case against these top public officials. I am apprehensive more plunder cases will be on the line and arrest would perhaps be even more impossible. I like politicians facing plunder cases because this is non-bailable and they have to stay in jail while their cases are being fought in court. This is the case of Madam Glo Arroyo which made her under hospital arrest because of plunder. Of course, I don’t think Enrile, et als have plans to escape arrest but the principal issue involved is they should be detained. And by that the law means they

I am so glad the Commission on Audit is moving to keep things in good order and I can see corruption in the government service which has impoverished the country for a long time will eventually change the face of our society. Lately Enrile was found to have led bunches of crimes relative to the pork barrel scams in the Senate and according to Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiago he is involved in big crimes but she is wondering why he is scot free until this minute. Does this mean the double standard of justice is still being practiced in this era of Matuwid na Daan?

I had been suggesting that corruption be made a capital offense and death penalty should be restored back to our society so we can punish well those corrupt people who pampered this government with so much thievery and major crimes. Those who belong to the electric chair should be entitled to sit down even for a moment of their lives. It is high time that Filipinos should know the effects of crimes and those that are considered not crimes. Right now we could hardly differentiate

the face of their differences. We have a lot of brilliant Filipinos who could give us good leadership but are overshadowed by the dirty people who know their way to stay on the top of our government. The result is we have an ugly government filled with corrupt individuals with millions of followers who do not know what is happening around them. As long as they eat three a day, they think such leaders are good and the media which exposes the bad developments in the hierarchy are the ones that lose its credibility. It is definitely not fair and we must change the image of society on this regard. I like the campaign on matuwid na daan but I I think our leaders do not know how to make things go straight. On a vibrant day of December 26, the year was 1956, the Manabilang clan rejoiced for a new star was born. MASTURA DALIG MANABILANG, in Rays Madaya, Islamic City of Marawi to Hadji Cosain Amai Manabilang and Hadja Asliah Bagambang Dalig. He finished his Elementary Education at Macapanton Abbas Memorial Elementary School and completed his Secondary and Tertiary Education at the Pangarungan Islam Colleges. Married to Hadja Hedjarah E. Manabilang, he has seven (7) successful progenies namely Mayor Jamal James E. Manabilang, Atty. Khalil D. Manabilang, Hadja Kadidia Musmera Manabilang-Dimaporo, Hon. Saidamen E.

Manabilang, Datu Nassib E. Manabilang, Datu Khalid E. Manabilang and Bae Saada Manabilang- Maniri. Sibling relationship among the Manabilang children was affectionate, cordial and amiable. The Manabilang family has a simple and happy life, in consonance with Meranao custom and tradition, family ties among the Manabilangs are intimately close. Mayor Mastura and Bae Hedjarah love their

children, but they never spoil them. They were strict parents and trained their children to love Allah, to behave well, to be obedient and to respect people especially the old folks. Known for his dynamic, passionate and charismatic leadership, former mayor MASTURA DALIG MANABILANG has served the Municipality of Bumbaran, Lanao del Sur for full three terms after leaving his ingud (hometown) with accomplishments that will always be remembered over time. During his incumbency as Mayor, he facilitated several infrastructure projects including the construction of Municipal Hall Building, electrification of the entire

municipality, establishment of Amai Manabilang Memorial National High School, construction of Bumbaran Auditorium, construction of ABC Hall, concreting of all major roads about 28 kilometers including farm to market road in the municipality, construction of Bumbaran Public and Flea Market, built the water systems for potable water supply, construction of PNP Headquarters, construction of barangay halls in all of the 17 barangays in Bumbaran, 11 warehouse with solar drier as economic support facilities, 204 hectares for reforestation project and construction of two (2) big mosques (Amai Manabilang Grand Mosque and MSI Mosque respectively) among

others. Day Care Centers, Rural Health Centers, street lights and multi-purpose buildings also channeled the exceptional delivery of basic goods and services for the constituents. He also generated more livelihood project to his constituents through banana plantation of 540 hectares that provides more than 1,000 employees aside from the soba noodles plantation. He improved the municipality from 6th class to 3rd class due to his passion for peace and development. Mayor Mastura Manabilang also was a former active Philippine constabulary soldier which he learned the discipline and skills for leadership, dedication and service to the people. The good mayor championed the maintenance and stability of peace and order that paved way for multi-national investors to capitalize on local resources thereby boosting the municipalityâ€™s economy. typhoon victims. The CDRRMC passed a resolution last November 13 allocating some P10 million from the city’s disaster quick response funds as relief assistance for victims of typhoon “Yolanda.” Of the appropriation, P6.5 million was set aside as financial assistance while the remaining P3.5 million would be utilized for the delivery of 10,000 relief packs. The council’s resolution was unanimously endorsed by the city council in a special session held on Nov. 15. On top of the cash assistance, the city government earlier sent family food packs and non-food relief items that were donated by local residents for the typhoon victims. The City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), which spearheaded the relief campaign, had sent the donated relief goods in batches through the Philippine Navy. A week after Yolanda’s onslaught in the Visayas region last November 8, the local government sent its mobile hospital to Tacloban City to augment the Department of Health (DOH) medical and relief operations. The mobile hospital, which was acquired by the city government early this year, is being manned by a team of medical personnel from the city health office led by Dr.Lalaine Calonzo. Rebecca Magante, CSWDO chief, said the city’s medical team was included in the Mindanao cluster group that was mobilized by the DOH in Leyte and Samar provinces. The group includes medical volunteers from Davao and Tagum cities, she said.
