Iligan seeks investors to improve DRRM projects By NEF LUCZON
C AG AYA N D E O R O CITY – Iligan City Mayor Frederick Siao said he has already found potential collaborators and investors to improve the city government’s projects on Disaster Risk Reduction Management (DRRM) and other infrastructures. In a statement Tuesday, Siao said his meeting with representatives of the Manila Economic Cooperation Office (MECO) has explored “areas of collaboration,” including the establishment of a DRRM learning center. “It is like a museum where we learn how to counter earthquakes, flash floods,
where children could also learn from it,” he said. Responding to calamities is essential should the city welcome potential investors, the mayor pointed out. But before investors could settle, Siao said the city should be ready in terms of infrastructure, which is why meeting with MECO was a good start. He said the city can provide enough manpower as many students and professionals can be tapped if more investors bring their industries to Iligan City. During the observance of the National TechnicalVocational Day as part of its 28th anniversary celebra-
tion last week, the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Lanao del Norte provincial office held the annual World Café of Opportunities in Iligan City. TESDA Lanao del Norte Provincial Director Noralaine Rasul said the event focused on skills upgrading and enrollment in technicalvocational scholarships. “It is a start for the jobseekers, those who want to work in industries or companies. It also allows our jobseekers abroad to match with the competences in addressing the gap of mismatch jobs,” she said. (PNA)
