sional district, said that he would include the P100 million in the department of public works and highways (DPWH) 2023 national budget for the development of a spring water that would supply water in the city’s upland villages here. Rodriguez identified these upland villages as Upper Bugo, Upper Puerto,

Balubal, Tablon, Indahag, Cugman, Upper Gusa, F.S. Catanico, and Upper Agusan, all in the city’s second congressional district. The population in the nine villages might be over 300,000 with Upper Bugo topping the list with almost 32,000 people while the smallest village F.S. Catanico has over 2,000 people.

According to Rodriguez, he already met with officials of the Cagayan de Oro Water District (COWD) and highway officials to address the water shortage in the nine upland villages here. He said that highway and water district officials here could develop the spring water sources in Malasag, a watershed in Cugman and

in Palalan, Tablon to supply potable water in the city’s upper villages. Apart from the spring water sources, the COWD would negotiate with the Manolo Fortich bulk water supply, a town in the border of Cagayan de Oto and Bukidnon, to connect to Balubal, Upper Puerto, and Upper Bugo.

Rufus Rodriguez today thanked the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) for expediting the lighting of the much-needed streetlights in CdeO’s coastal bypass road. Rodriguez was able to secure P50 million from last year’s General Appropriation Act for the construction and installation of 290 light posts along the said coastal road traversing the barangays of Puntod, Lapasan, and Gusa. In a report by DPWH 2nd District Engineer Gabriel Guinitaran, a total of 29 electrical posts in Barangay Gusa (Baywalk side) were energized last August 17, 2022 and additional 8 posts will be energized today, August 19, 2022. The Puntod and Lapasan segment will be energized within 2 weeks. “The construction of the posts and the purchase of the LED bulbs for the lighting program in the CdeO coastal by-pass road has been completed last July. The remaining work includes tapping of the electricity from CEPALCO, which needed the intervention of the local government unit for the processing of the electrical permit and the negotiations for bill deposit, and the rewiring of the stolen wires from the erected posts,” Rodriguez said. “I am thankful to DPWH for heeding our urgent request that the streetlights will be lit in order to deter criminality and promote safety for drivers and pedestrians,” he added.
