CDO chosen as pilot city of ADB-funded project

City Mayor Oscar Moreno’s thrust on transparency and good governance got a big boost as the Asian Development Bank (ADB) selected Cagayan de Oro City as one of its project partners.

In a recent e-mail message to the City Mayor, Dante de los Angeles, ADB project grant manager, confirmed the city’s selection as project partner in the implementation of the ADB-funded project entitled “Strengthening Citizen Involvement in Mitigating Governance Risks in Local Government Units in the Philippines”. “We are pleased to advise that Cagayan de Oro City has been selected by the Project Steering Committee as one of the projects sites in Region 10 to pilot the engagement initiative in the area of budget formulation and execution or public procurement monitoring and evaluation,” de los Angeles informed Mayor Moreno. The project which is aimed at enhancing productive and successful LGU-citizen engagement in local governance will be supported by a grant from the Asian Development Bank under its Small Grant Facility, he added. Mayor Moreno said he is extremely pleased and grateful as he looked forward to working with the Asian Development Bank on the project implementation. “We are all very happy for Cagayan de Oro City and its people for this project,” the City Mayor concluded. In the wake of this development, the ADB will invite city representatives to a workshop to be held later this month to discuss the salient features of the project. It can be recalled that about a month ago, Ms. Claudia Buentjen, ADB Principal Country Specialist and De Los Angeles visited ten local government units in North Eastern Mindanao purposely to identify and select potential partners for the ADBfunded project. As a member of the House Committee on Agriculture and Food, Marcos expressed his full support to the Department of Agriculture (DA) in its effort to intensify agricultural production particularly in the rehabilitation and construction of irrigation systems as farmers faced the challenge of climate change. Makina Saka is the DA’s initiative in promoting modern and cost-efficient technologies, methodologies, machinery and farm equipment to increase farmer’s productivity and income. This is also udertaken to strengthen the implementation of the Agri-Fishery Mechanization Law or RA 10601 that aims to gear up the level of mechanization in the country in support to food security and sufficiency. RPN’s Talent Search captures the heart of Cagay-anons Privilege Speech on Automotive Manufacturing Industry. Congressman Rufus B. Rodriguez delivers a privilege speech in the plenary of the House of Representatives in connection with automobile industry in the country. He is pushing for the passage of his bill protecting the local automotive manufacturing industry. He is also pushing for the passage of his bill on granting tax breaks on hybrid vehicles. DA chief firm on rice self-sufficiency target MAKINA SAKA. Pursuant to Republic Act 10601 or the Agricultural and Fishery Mechanization Law which aims in providing access to farmers to appropriate and economical agri-fishery machinery and equipment for improved productivity and income of farmers, the regional field offices of the Department of Agriculture (DA) throughout the Mindanao-island have conducted the Makina Saka or the Agri-Machinery Road Show on November 11-15, 2013 in Cagayan de Oro City. The weeklong affair primarily aimed to showcase the different latest and emerging agri-machinery and equipment, especially for rice which could be availed by farmers from the DA through a counterpart scheme. Decades later, her wish came true and it was no less than a Cannes International Film Festival award-winning film that paved the way for the reunion between her and the boys she loved and cared for like they were her own. Set in Singapore, ILO ILO chronicles the relationship between a family of three and their Filipino nanny, Teresa. The family needs to adapt to

the presence of this stranger, which further threatens their already strained relationship. Still, Teresa and Jia Le, the young and troublesome she cares for, soon form a bond. Their unique connection continues to develop and soon she becomes a part of the family. But it is 1997 and the Asian financial crisis is starting to be felt in the region. The film which won the Camera d’Or award in Cannes and is now Singapore's entry to the Oscar Awards for best foreign language film. It is the feature film debut of Singaporean filmmaker Anthony Chen, one of the three boys “Auntie Terry” took care of as a domestic helper in the Lion City. Chen is the first Singaporean to win a top award at Cannes for a feature film. Teresita worked for the Chen family for eight years, but had to return home in 1997 due to health issues. Since then, she had lost touch with the family but still carried photos of the three boys with her. “They were very nice kids; they could be mischievous at times, but they’re really very sweet,” she said. In late August, ILO ILO was screened in Singapore cinemas and “Auntie Terry” was there to attend its premiere screening. Her dream to revisit Singapore and the Chen family was made possible when Cebu Pacific flew her back to the city state in August 2013 on a direct flight from Iloilo City to attend the Singapore premiere where CEB was also the official airline. It was her first time to travel to a foreign country after 16 years and to watch a movie in a cinema. “We are honored to be part of this wonderful reunion and support Auntie Terry when she goes to Singapore through Cebu Pacific’s direct flights from Iloilo. We think we see everyone else so clearly, but what about ourselves? We can’t see what we need to correct and change in our

He’ll give you the strength to always be honest, no matter how much you can get away with. Jesus will also help you not be quick to see faults in others or gossip about them. So today, if you’ll ask Jesus to forgive you of your pride and blindness to your own faults; and ask Him to start healing and changing your heart, He will. Then, as you start living His way every day, you will start to see yourself becoming a new person who can reach your full potential. Be a hero like Andres Bonifacio

On November 30, Filipinos will mark the 150th birth anniversary of one of the Philippines’ most beloved heroes, Andres Bonifacio. As the leader or “Supremo” of the Katipunan, Bonifacio is credited as the father of the biggest revolution to rid our nation of the imperialist yoke. To celebrate this milestone, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) plans to come with a commemorative 10-Piso coin that will soon be available to the public. Timed to coincide with his birthday on November 30, which is also a national holiday, the release of the commemorative coin intends to serve as a constant reminder of Bonifacio’s heroism and ideals. On previous occasions, the BSP has come up with special editions of our currency to honor other personalities or to commemorate other important national milestones. In 1999, a 50-Piso bill was released with a special overprint to commemorate the 50 years of central

These commemorative coins and bills are circulation currency, meaning, they can be used for our daily needs to purchase goods and services. But many also keep a few of them as souvenirs. It may be of interest to our readers that in 2008, the Bangko Sentral has come up with a special Centennial Commemorative Note. The note sets the record for

Philipine legal tender in terms of amount (P100,000) and dimension 22 cm by 33 cm). Since only 1,000 pieces were printed, one can be sure that this Centennial note is a prize trophy among numismatists. It must be noted that not all milestones of institutions can be featured in commemorative notes or coins. The BSP, through its Numismatic Committee, carefully studies which can be granted a coin design, overprint, or special denomination based on this criteria: 1) At least 50 years of existence in pursuit of the organization’s mission and vision; 2) National significance of the celebration; and 3) International Significance of the celebration.

It is the requesting party’s responsibility to prove that their milestone satisfies all three requirements above. They shall also provide their suggested coin or overprint design and the desired number of banknotes to be printed or coins to be minted. If the Committee, which is currently co-chaired by BSP Deputy Governors Diwa C. Guinigundo (Monetary Stability Sector) and Vicente S. Aquino (Resource Management Sector), finds merit in the request, they will recommend its approval to the Monetary Board (MB), the highest policy-making body in the BSP. If approved by the MB, BSP Governor Amado M. Tetangco Jr. formally seeks approval from President Benigno S. Aquino III for the issuance of the special currency.
