FOR the first time since 1987, the House Committee on Suffrage and Electoral Reforms on Wednesday approved the consolidated version of three House antidynasty bills and vowed to submit the committee report by next week. Under the consolidated version of House Bill Nos. 172, 837 and 2911 prepared by a technical working group, the proposed law will no longer allow relatives of an elective official up to the second degree of consanguinity or affinity to seat in an elective position. Section 3[c] of the measure defines “relatives of a person who may be the latter’s brother or sister, direct ascendant or direct descendant, whether legitimate or illegitimate, full or half blood, including their spouses.” The committee will present its committee report to plenary for debate, hoping that the bill will be approved on third and final reading to complete the historic passage. Records show that the anti-dynasty bill, which was filed since the administration of President Corazon C. Aquino in 1987, did not reach plenary and the approval of the measure by the House committee in the current Congress was considered remarkable. Section 5 of the See PASSES, page A11

LOCAL and national government officials yesterday graced the groundbreaking ceremony of the 405 megawatts (MW) thermal power plant of FDC Misamis Power Corporation (FDC Misamis) inside the Phividec Industrial Estate in Villanueva town in Misamis Oriental. Touted as the biggest coal-fired power plant in Mindanao, Villanueva town Mayor Julio Uy led
the laying of time capsule along with the senior officials of Filinvest, Misamis Oriental Governor Yevgeny Vincente Emano, and other local and national officials. In his speech, Uy said the construction of thermal power plant would augment the unstable power supply in Mindanao. The presence of FDC Misamis in Villanueva town will boost the local and national economy, said Uy as he thanked President Benigno Aquino III and the Phividec Industrial
Authority (PIA) for the multi-billion peso project. “It will increase the revenue and create more job opportunities,” said the Villanueva town mayor in his Keynote Message. He also said the hourlong brownouts would become “a thing of the past.” FDC Misamis Power Corporation, a subsidiary of FDC Utilities, Inc., will construct a three-unit with a capacity of 135MW circulating fluidized bed coalfired thermal power plant each inside the Phividec

CAGAYAN de Oro City––The City Council will tackle the proposed P 1.6 billion 2014 budget of the city government on Thursday, the city’s finance committee said on Tuesday. City Councilor Prexy Elipe, chair of the city council’s finance committee, said that the committee would first agenda the city’s Statement of Receipts/Expenditures (General Fund) and the Special Account-Economic Enterprises/Utilities during the Day 1 meeting. The financial report contains the financial statements of the General Fund which includes the Statement of Income and Expenses, Balance Sheet, Statement of Cash Flows and Trial Balance. Misor extends medical mission in Leyte towns MISAMIS Oriental–– Some 20 medical personnel from Misamis Oriental would be leaving on Thursday afternoon as to extend medical mission to typhoon-stricken town in the province of Leyte. Provincial Administrator Edmundo Pacamalan, Jr. said on Wednesday that the volunteers have doctors, nurses, and other medical assistants in the team. He said that the medical team intends to serve the outskirt towns of Barugo, Carigara, and Tunga, all eastern towns of Leyte. “I think there are still places in the province of Leyte that need medical
attention. The province’ capital city of Tacloban is already saturated with dozens of volunteers,” Pacamalan said. He said that the team would also distribute medicines, consultation and medical check ups particularly the children, women, and elderly. Pacamalan said that the volunteers would stay in the area for 10 days targeting a total of 5,000 patients. “Our services would be strictly medical,” he said. A comfortable environment is required to enhance level of learning in schools. It also relaxes the mind of the student in order for them to absorb lessons completely. Department of Education has implemented different environmental programs which aim to protect trees and as well, teach the students to give importance to these. Clean and Green program is one of these. This was implemented to various elementary and high schools nationwide over the years. In 2011 also, DepEd committed to require their students to plant one tree each month, in cooperation to the administration’s National Greening Program (NGP),that aims to plant trees up to 1.5 million hectares in designated areas, including forestlands, mangrove and protected areas, as well as ancestral domain areas. Aside from their participation in national g re e n i n g pro g r a m s , these trees are certainly helpful to them. It provides shade for outdoor activities of the students such as Physical Educa-
tion. It will also prevent flooding in the school area. Planting trees is also very important to raise the awareness of the students and encourage them to plant more trees. Through the years, it has been discussed in classes that trees are very important for it consist several uses. However, sometimes, it is good to apply these theories into action and doing such is a great experience for the students. The schools should continue doing planting projects. There are numerous trees cut everywhere each day. Thus, it is very significant and necessary for all of us to plant trees. If we neglect to do so, a day will come that we can see no trees around. There would no source of relaxation at all. There would be no trees that will provide shades for our playing kids. There would also no trees that will prevent flooding in our schools. Trees are big help, so we should continue planting and growing it so that the future generation can still know it and enjoy its uses.

Four of the passengers drowned, and there was nothing we can do but to keep on going. What happened was so hard for us that it’s not easy to talk about it,” Julius Romojo, a fisherman, said as he took

a deep breath while holding his wife’s hand. Remojo suggested that the dead bodies found in Dinagat might have been the people from their boat or from either of the other boats. He was almost in tears and touching the wound in his right leg while recounting their trip to Surigao. Ronnel Togonon, 31, a native of Butuan City who had lived in Tacloban for the past four years was in a boat with his wife and four children and 24 more people. “We were about 30 people from four families in one boat. They were all neighbors trying to help each other out to survive. We left Tacloban a day after Yolanda hit the city,” Togonon said. “With the death all around us, the destruction and angry, hungry people getting agitated, we know we have to leave no matter how risky it all sounded,” he added. Aurilla Buco, 64, from Bagakay in Tacloban also shared the ordeal that she and her family went through. “After the storm, we lost everything, our clothes were
wet and we have nothing else left. Three of my children and their three children walked with us across Tacloban for a day passing by the corpses, debris, trees and destroyed homes and buildings. It was a horrific sight but we pushed on to find food for the kids,” said Buco. She added it was faith and prayer that kept them going. “The smell of the dead was all around us but we kept on praying that hopefully we will be saved. On the fourth day after Yolanda hit us, we meet someone who was looking for people who would be willing to travel by motorized boat to Surigao,” she went on. “It was God’s way of saving us. We were desperate and hungry so we said yes. Along the way our boat bumped with dead bodies floating in the ocean. We just kept on going. Some of the other boats got lost and we never saw them again. “We left at around 5:00 in the morning and arrived here at 8:00 in the evening,” she recalled. Buco added she is happy they decided to go with the boats, and hoped the others would be rescued.
She was planning to bring her family back to her native town in Sarangani. The people who survived the sea voyage arrived in Claver town, Surigao del Norte but decided to move here after learning that an evangelical mission group was in the city to help typhoon survivors. Storm surge Romojo was working in Soloan, Guiuan town in Samar when Yolanda struck. He took a small boat to go back to his wife in Barangay 60-A, Tacloban a day after. “When the tides went up in Guiuan, we were in the water and hid in the mangroves while heading towards Leyte. When we reached Tacloban, my wife was not home and I had to find her in the evacuation sites. We immediately left with 13 other people by a small boat headed for Surigao,” he said. Togonon meanwhile recalled that several people panicked when the seawater started to rise and flood their place. “We were all shocked that the waters covered the entire community in just a few minutes.” “I held my three-month old baby daughter with one hand and my three-year old
daughter with the other. I can’t describe my fear that day but I have to be brave for my family especially when I almost lost hold of my baby. Thank God I had the strength to keep on holding them tight,” he said. Josie, Ronnel’s wife, said they were so frightened they just dropped everything they were carrying and started running away from the rising tide. “I asked my elder child to run with my sibling, and then I shouted to my neighbors to do the same. We passed by several people who were carrying their televisions, rice cooker, electric fans and asked them to leave them behind or else the rising waters will swallow them up. “All the appliances in the world are nothing compared to the lives of your loved ones. To survive you have to save yourselves and not the material things,” said Josie. Aubrey Mae Ortiz said it was a miracle that saved her baby daughter from the storm surge. “My husband was in Guiuan, Samar where he is working as a boat builder when Yolanda hit us. MALAYBALAY CITY — The provincial government of Bukidnon will extend a total of P3.7 million to survivors of super typhoon Yolanda in the Visayas, Hansel Echavez, head of the Provincial Public Affairs and Information and Assistance Office, told MindaNews. The provincial government intends to give P1.5 million to the City of Tacloban, P1 million to the City of Ormoc, P1 million to the Province of Leyte, and P200,000 to Old Bantayan and Bantayan Island. The provincial government gave P2 million to Bohol and P1 million to Cebu after a 7.2-magnitude earthquake hit the two provinces, and P1 million to Zamboanga City after the standoff between government forces and the Moro National Liberation Front-Misuari faction. The provincial government announced the donation this week as it called on the public to pour in donations for the survivors. In memorandum order 153-2013-B, Gov. Jose Ma. R. Zubiri Jr. said only P1 million is left from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Fund that can be released for the purpose. Zubiri’s order obliged employees to donate to
the victims. He said regular and casual employees should give P1,000 each while division and department heads should give P2,000 each. Zubiri said he will also shoulder a portion of the donation. Echavez said the provincial government has 1,423 regular employees, including 27 department heads, and 840 casual employees. The donation from regular and casual employees will be deducted from their personnel economic relief allowance for December 2013. The donation from department heads will be charged against their representation and travelling allowances. Echavez said the employees signed a waiver to facilitate the early deduction. Change of heart THE Supreme Court decision Tuesday declaring as illegal the congressional pork barrel fund euphemistically called the Priority Development Assistance Fund could be likened to a doctor’s prescription to finally avoid pork after allowing in the past his patient to indulge in pork in wild abandon. If this is the case, why did the magistrates overturn their previous rulings on the pork barrel issue where in the past they have consistently said it is constitutional? I honestly don’t look at this change of heart by the court magistrates as a sign that they have encountered the Lord like what happened to Saul who eventually became Paul the Apostle after his encounter with the Lord on the road to Damascus. The change of heart is brought about by the snowballing public pressure against such fund. The SC just went with the popular tide that cried for the abolition of the pork barrel fund. I doubt the court magistrates would change that easily their previous ruling affirming the pork’s constitutionality that they invoked thrice in separate petitions in the past. The SC is one body that normally does not change its heart on matters they

But it was brought about by the mounting pressure denouncing the pork. The lesson that the nation could learn from this ruling is that even the SC can be made to change its heart through public pressure. But this has its downside too. A high tribunal that succumbs to public pressure is a weakling. Courts, the SC, Court of Appeals, Sandiganbayan and the lower courts, are mandated to decide cases without regard to any pressure. The Tuesday pork ruling issued by the court is not one such ruling. It was evidently made to satisfy the clamoring mob demanding the pork’s abolition. Personally, I am for the fund’s abolition. But I am for its abolition by the very people from the executive and legislative branches of

government who in the first place created it. And I want those responsible in creating this monster be made to slay the very monster they created through insurmountable public pressure. As it is now, it is the SC that has become victim to the originally legitimate people’s pressure against the pork fund. Sadly, however, that legitimate pressure mutated into a mob pressure because the SC is not supposed to issue rulings based on public pressure but on the merits of the case hence the legal concept of Lady Justice with a blindfold. The elective officials responsible for the creation of this monster called pork barrel fund are now saying that they will abide by the ruling of the SC and that they will not appeal the decision. So they are now projected as law abiding officials when it was them who created this monster. The ruling made them

If it happened this way, the growth of democracy in our country would have been enhanced and reinforced. The problem in our country is that when the people exercise their sovereign will other institutions such as the SC comes in the way and prevents the people from winning their own battles. This happened when the Katipunan was about to win their battle for independence from Spain when America thwarted it. When the local prelates belonging to the Roman Catholic Church almost won its freedom and independence from Rome, the SC ruled against them. STAKEHOLDERS of the P 30 billion coal fired power plant, the number one source of carbon dioxide pollution, finally had the ground breaking on Wednesday in Villanueva, Misamis Oriental. Local officials said that more than 300 workers would be hired to construct the controversial power plant there. They said that the construction and operation of the coal plant would spark the local economy. Tell us more about the advantage of a coal plant and we would be pleased to hear more. What is unacceptable ‘though is when people are denied of what they’re supposed to know - that a coal plant is the number one contributor to “climate change.” What is abominable is when proponents of the coal plant tell the people that the coal plant is adopting modern technology that minimize, if not, resolve its polluting effects. Tell the people of the truth behind the ill-effects of a coal plant and one would be accused as an irrelevant rabble rouser. Yet, what could we say of the bootlickers? Well, most of the sycophants are local officials who reportedly received fat envelopes in exchanged of favorable resolutions allowing the operation of the coal plant in the province. There were stories in the mill that provincial officials who earlier resisted with the plan to operate the coal plant were censured in consideration of millions? Thinking about these allegations had taken us aback. Often, stories of incidents like this would always lead us to ponder on the kind of political system that we have. Abu Sayyaf bandits seize Sulu provincial treasurer

AMBOANGA CITY – Marine and police forces are tracking down the whereabouts in a bid to rescue a provincial government official seized by suspected Abu Sayyaf bandits in Sulu.
Sulu police director Senior Supt. Abraham Orbito said the victim, Jesus Cabillin, 60, was seized around 6:50 p.m. Monday at capitol site, Patikul municipality.
Orbito said Cabillin was taking a rest at hi sleeping quarters when gunmen arrived and seized him at gunpoint. Orbito said the gunmen forced Cabillin to board on
a yellow Tamaraw jeep and sped towards the direction of Barangay Danag, also in the town of Patiklul. Joint Task Force Sulu commander newly-promoted Brig. Gen. Jose Johriel Cenabre disclosed that the gunmen who seized Cabillin are members of the Abu Sayyaf Group. Cenabre said the sus-
pects are led by Abu Sayyaf mid-level leaders Julli Ikit and Kausar Sawadjaan, whose group are based in the hinterlands of Patikul. PAGADIAN CITY – To help save and alleviate the sufferings of survivors of super typhoon “Yolanda” (international name, Haiyan), the Diocese of Pagadian City is now encouraging the public to give relief assistance. In his homily on Sunday, Rev. Fr. Rico P. Sayson, Sto. Niño Cathedral parish administrator, said the great loss of life and massive destruction of homes, infrastructures and agriculture wrought by super typhoon Yolanda in Central Visayas region had encouraged the diocese to launch relief efforts for the typhoon victims. Fr. Sayson said he already consulted Bishop Emmanuel T. Cabajar on the matter and the latter immediately ordered him to open a relief operations center at the parish. “The bishop has ordered me to open our parish as
relief operations center for the survivors of typhoon “Yolanda,” he said. “We encourage the Catholic faithfuls to share and donate relief goods such as rice, canned goods, bottled water, medicines, etc. to the victims of typhoon “Yolanda” in the Visayas,” urged the priest. The parish will also accept cash donations, Fr. Sayson said adding “any amount donated will be properly issued a corresponding donation receipts and shall be turned over to Bishop Cabajar.” “The good Bishop will then turn-over the money to the Diocesan Bishop of Central Visayas to ensure that cash donations will reach the typhoon survivors,” Fr. high underemployment, high unemployment, increased food prices, frequent flooding and drought, high vulnerability to landslides and flashfloods, prolonged/sporadic armed conflict and others. Among the findings was that majority of Mindanao provinces are classified as stressed and in crisis levels of food insecurity with Zamboanga Sibugay and Zamboanga del Norte in the emergency level. She requested RSDC 9 to endorse the use of IPC to provincial development councils as reference for identifying priorities for food security interventions and as an input to development and sectoral investment planning. As such, there is a need to communicate the IPC analysis results for action by disseminating the IPC report for Mindanao to guide planning and delivery of strategic responses among national inter-agency groups and RSDCs to promote and improve food security in priority areas. Nestor R. Carbonera, chairperson of RSDC 9 who presided over the meeting favorably endorsed the IPC to be utilized and implemented in the municipal, city and provincial levels through the RDC. The body also agreed to tap the NNC as the lead agency to promote IPC in Region 9. Meanwhile, Manolette Jude Mercado of NEDA 9 enlightened the group on the comparative advantage of the region. Zamboanga Peninsula is the 2nd biggest mango producer next to Southern Mindanao, 3rd in seaweed production, as well as the biggest traditional exporter of coco-based products such as coco pellets and others. AVAO City - MAYOR Rodrigo Duterte is not scrapping the holding of the City Government employees Christmas Party, but said it should be done in a modest way, citing the predicaments of those affected by supertyphoon “Yolanda” in the Visayas, as the reason for reduced budget this Yuletide season.
Duterte said the city government will not also allocate budget for Christmas decorations for display at the City Hall. Duterte was suggesting that refugees from Leyte who are now in this city be invited during the said parties, saying the spirit of Christmas must be celebrated by City Hall employees with parties, but, this time, they must be with a cause. “Kung mag-party mangita og pamilya nga gikan sa Leyte (Invite families from Leyte to join the parties),” Duterte was quoted as saying. Hundreds of survivors of super typhoon Yolanda in Leyte are starting to leave the island, and some of them are heading for Davao City and other parts of Mindanao. Some of them said they will go to relatives in other parts of the country. Still others, however, said they still don’t know where to go. One of those who plan to go to Davao with their families is Rene Boy Castil, 37. His wife, Lorna, and their three children, Kharen Mae, 14; Kathyren Mae, 7; and Ismael Bin Abdullah, 2, are going with him. “Bahala na, basta makaabot kami sa Davao City (I don’t care what happens as long as we can go to Davao City),” Castil, who
only P1800 left in his pocket said. He said the money was given by his sister’s husband who works abroad. “It’s just P1800 because my sister shared it with her two other sisters.” Asked why he chose Davao City even if he has no relatives there, Castil said he used to work in that place 16 years ago. “That’s the place where I’m quite familiar, but that was 16 years already when I left then went abroad. I don’t know how it is look today,” he said. He said their house in Barangay Bislig in Tanauan, Leyte was among the hundreds of homes that were destroyed. He recalled their house collapsed around 7 a.m. of Nov. 8, just seconds after they abandoned it. “We moved into our neighbor’s house which was a few meters away from ours and I could imagine we were around 200 people in there,” Castil told MindaNews on Sunday evening onboard the boat bound for Surigao from Benit. He added they were all on the rooftop and were just lucky they weren’t hit by GI sheets that were carried by the winds. Bound For Agusan Another typhoon victim, Robert Cinco, a farmer from Barangay Pasil in Tanauan town said their two-story house was destroyed
along with at least 20 others by strong winds. With Robert were his live-in partner, Ruth Antipora and their one year-old son, Robert Jr. Hi brothers-in-law came to their village last Sunday and convinced him to move to Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur. He said he had no choice because he can neither plant rice nor harvest copra since there are no more fertilizers and palay seeds in Leyte and the coconuts were uprooted. He said only one person, a friend, died in their purok. The victim was buried under the debris after a tree broke and fell down on one of the houses. For Compostela Norma Loyola, a resident of Palo, Leyte said the she is going to stay in Compostela Valley for quite some time. “I have a daughter there and she can provide us everything,” she said. Her right leg swollen and limping, she said her house was destroyed and her small store was looted. “It would have helped us in our daily needs,” she said. Loyola is living with her granddaughter, Eleonor Loyola, a 25year old hotel and restaurant management graduate. Eleonor said they have no problem with her mother in Compostela since she is well-off. “My mother has several businesses in Davao. Maybe I can help her now but I want to stick around with my Lola if she comes back to Leyte.” Eleonor said her granddaughter has lived with her since she was a young child. Some other refugees from Leyte were planning to go to other areas
of Mindanao. For now, 57 families are being housed in an orphanage in Surigao City. They are among a few hundreds of individuals who arrived in Lapita Port. These families have no money and clothing and are in dire need of food, said Ava Marie Villareal, a resident of Surigao City who visited these people. She said generous residents had donated food and other items for them. She said she raised money to enable the victims to visit their relatives in Surigao del Sur, Butuan City and other parts in Mindanao. Good Samaritans Some passengers on the boat that took the survivors to Surigao City shelled out money, food and a note to the Castil family. The note, handed by an old man, referred Rene Boy to a close friend in Davao City who can give him a job. “That guy is a very close friend of mine, show that letter to him. He has several businesses, I’m sure he can give you a job,” the old man said. Rebe Boy couldn’t thank him enough, apparently excited at the prospect of finding a new life in Mindanao’s biggest urban center. His children were hesitant to accept a box containing bottled water, biscuits and ready-to-eat foods from a woman. “Accept it. Stop feeling ashamed or we’ll die,” he told his second daughter. His wife Lorna was quick to say “thank you” to the lady, who later gave a few hundred pesos. A young man gave some biscuits, vitamin C, and deodorant. Development projects set for implementation in Davao Oriental
MATI CIT Y, Province of Davao Oriental – In a bid to foster peace in the counwtryside,projects for socio-economic development have been set for implementation here in the province, says the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace Process (OPAPP). During their courtesy call to Governor Corazon N. Malanyaon and City Mayor Carlo Rabat on Friday, the OPAPP team bared aligned projects being brewed to be implemented under the Sajahar ta B angsamoro Program (SBP). Among these projects are the constructions of afish landing, rural health center,daycare center, and implementation of skills development program. Set to be put up in Barangay Tagabakid, City of Mati chosen as pilot area, these projects isaligned to the program’s three comp one nts of s o ci oeconomic interventions
focused on health, education, and livelihood. OPAPP said that the fish landing which will be placed in an area near the coast of Tagabakid holds the promise of inducing economic benefits in the local economy and will greatly help thelocal community, which primarily dependson fishing as their primary source of livelihood. Meanwhile, aside from the economic benefits of the project, Gov. Malanyaon considers the project a potential venue for tourism. “This is one project I really want to be implemented here in the province considering that we are a coastal province and has the longest coastline in the entire region. This is something that we need to take advantage of,” says Governor Malanyaon. Meanwhile, with respect to the education component, TESDA Provincial Director ElCid H.

EastMincom sends soldiers to join relief efforts in Leyte DAVAO CITY-- The Armed Forces’ Eastern Mindanao is sending a composite battalion to support national government’s efforts to hasten the relief and rehabilitation efforts in Leyte hit hard by Typhoon Yolanda. Christened as Joint Task Force Tambayayong II (JTFT II) it is composed of 350 personnel from the Philippine Army’s 4th and 10th Infantry Divisions; Naval Forces Eastern Mindanao; and from Army Engineer units. The battalion is joined by medical volunteers from the KIWANIS International Division 7 and 8 as a component of the said humanitarian mission. The convoy brought with them family food packs for distribution to the people in Leyte that came from donors in Davao. Some donors provided nails and large tarpaulins to be used for temporary shelters. Task Force Tambayay-
ong II is a reincarnation of the original Joint Task Force Tambayayong, which participated in the reconstruction efforts in the aftermath of Typhoon Pablo that hit Southern Mindanao last year. Carpenter-soldiers repaired more than 700 houses, facilities, schools, chapels in the communities in the rehabilitation phase. Instead of lugging weapons they were armed with hammers, craw bars, saws and other light construction equipment. EASTMINCOM Commander Lt. Gen. Ricardo Rainier G. Cruz III said that sending the Joint Task Force Tambayayong II to Leyte will help the people in the affected communities construct shelters or repair partially damaged houses and facilities, clear roads to speed up entry of vehicles transporting relief goods and even recover missing persons. Uy said they continue to receive donations but warned businesses to give only to legitimate organizations so as not to fall into the trap of scams. Meanwhile, regional state prosecutor Jaime Umpa said the members of the Prosecutors League of the Philippines will also help their colleagues in the regions affected by the typhoon. Umpa said they will go to Ormoc City and Tacloban City next week to assist in the operation of the prosecutor’s offices in both cities. He said the Hall of Justice in Tacloban was destroyed and that their mission, aside from giving cash donations to families of prosecutors, is to make a temporary office functional inasmuch as inquest proceedings have to be attended to following many crime arrests in the area. He added that the temporary office in Tacloban needs a generator and typewriters as he called on fellow prosecutors in Northern Mindanao to give donations. The court cases in the devastated areas will be a problem, Umpa said, noting that records were destroyed during the calamity. “It’s going to be a huge job reconstituting cases,” he said. The problems they face include not only destroyed records but also possible missing parties as well as witnesses. However, Umpa said all the witnesses under the witness protection program of the Department of Justice have been accounted for.

Mangudadatu was spared from the massacre after he sent his wife Genalyn and several female family members to file his candidacy. The media workers were part of the convoy to cover the filing. The Ampatuan Massacre has since placed the Philippines in the list of the most dangerous countries for journalists. CAGAYAN de Oro Councilor Dante Pajo, chair of the City Council committee on health and sanitation, appeals to all pet owners to be responsible citizens. He said they should not leave their dogs on the streets to scatter garbage. Pajo said bites of dogs also endanger the lives of people in the neighborhood. The committee noted the report of the City Veterinary Office which indicated that last month 466 persons from various barangays were victims of dog bites. These barangays are: Carmen (71 dog bites), Gusa (26), Kauswagan (26), Balulang (25) and barangay Patag (23). Pajo thanked City Veterinarian Dr. Perla Asis and her office for vaccinating 2,997 dogs during the period. He enjoins newly-elected barangay officials to implement the Animal Welfare Act and to coordinate with the City Veterinary Office for the conduct of Operation Pamatong in their respective areas of responsibility. “The continuing operation Pamatong is also laudable and must be supported especially in the barangay level,” Councilor Pajo told The Power. “Nalipay ako nga sa gihimong Pamatong sa upat ka barangay, adunay 9 lamang ka mga laag nga iro ang nasikop,” Pajo added. The tournament is organized by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) Region XI headed by IA James Infiesto in coordination with Davao City Consumers Sports Cooperative (DCCSC). Myanmar rowers hope to sweep gold medals in upcoming SEA Games YANGON, Nov. 19 (PNA/ Xinhua) -- Myanmar rowers are hoping to secure the gold medals in the upcoming 27th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games to be hosted by Myanmar in December, according to Myanmar Rowing Federation on Tuesday. The Myanmar rowers are undergoing intensive training daily for achieving victory in the SEA Games, the federation said, adding that they all are expected to secure gold medals in the traditional boat race. In the games, 17 gold medals will be awarded to the winners in the rowing. Traditional boat race will be classified into 17 events including 500m, 1000m and 2000m events, men’s 10-oar event, women’s 10-oar event, men’s and women’s 10-oar event, men’s and women’s five-oar event. In addition to traditional boat race, the game will comprise canoeing and kayak events. Nine gold medals will be presented to the winners in the canoeing and kayak event and 15 for western style rowing. Only 21 days left to the opening of the 27th SEA Games.
