Oro council wants single database for assistance C

Dive tourism BUTUAN City – The Department of Tourism in the Caraga Region (DOT-13) said it is ramping up its assessments of the different dive sites in the region, noting a high potential for dive tourism in the area.

In a statement Tuesday, the DOT-13 said it has assessed so far eight potential dive sites in the provinces of Agusan del Norte, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, and Dinagat Islands.

“The assessment aims to survey and study the potential dive sites in the different areas in the region,” it said, adding that the assessment also included the documentation of the bathymetry of the dive sites.

Notice to proceed DAVAO City — A notice to proceed was issued on Thursday, Sept. 1, to the Chinese contractor of the highly anticipated Samal Island-Davao City (SIDC) connector project, an official of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said. DPWH Undersecretary Emil Sadain said that a geotechnical survey commenced last week in preparation for the actual construction of the bridge project. China Road and Bridge Corp. (CRBC) was selected as the contractor for the project, according to the DPWH.

Mandatory facemask DAVAO City – Wearing of face mask remains mandatory in this city, a health official said Friday.

“We are still imposing the mandatory wearing of face mask because it is what is stated under our city ordinance, unlike other provinces and cities they do not have an ordinance,” said Dr. Ashley Lopez, the City Health Office (CHO acting chief.

Lopez issued the response amid reports that the national government is considering proposals for the non-wearing of face masks outdoors.

2 Agusan solons push for nationalized upland farmers dev’t program By CHRIS V. PANGANIBAN MindaNews

PROSPERIDAD, Agusan del Sur – The two lawmakers of this province have pushed for the institutionalization in the entire country of the award-winning Upland Sustainable Agriforestry Convergence Program (USAD). Rep. Alfelito Bascug and Rep. Adolph Edward Plaza, of the province’s first and second districts, respectively, filed House Bill 3489, an act establishing the USAD program nationwide. They believe this bill will improve the poor farmers’ economic plight in upland communities.

Rep. Richard Gomez of Ormoc City and 10 other lawmakers have co-authored the USAD bill. Last year, the USAD program, which helped some 5,000 farmers in the hinterland areas of the province become more productive, was picked as one of the top 10 outstanding local governance programs of the Galing Pook Awards spearheaded by the Department of the Interior and Local Government.
