Briefly Noche buena products THE Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) said it is still studying the applications of manufacturers of Noche Buena goods for possible price adjustments for these seasonal products. During the Laging Handa public briefing on Tuesday, DTI Assistant Secretary Ann Claire Cabochan said the department is in close coordination with the manufacturers regarding the supply and prices of products for the upcoming Christmas holiday. Cabochan said the DTI has requested the manufacturers to temper their price increases despite the rising oil and transportation costs, as well as the depreciation of the peso to ensure that Noche Buena products remain affordable for Filipinos.
September inflation up THE consumer price index (CPI) for September this year rose 6.9 percent, which is mainly driven by faster food inflation, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) reported Wednesday. In a press conference, PSA head and national statistician Undersecretary Dennis Mapa said the headline inflation last month was higher than the 6.3-percent rate in August 2022 and the 4.2-percent CPI in September 2021. Last month’s figure brought the average inflation rate from January to September this year to 5.1 percent.
Factories grow THE country’s manufacturing purchasing managers’ index (PMI) in September 2022 improved to 52.9, the highest in three months, S&P Global reported Monday. The manufacturing score last month was higher than the sector’s performance in August at 51.2. The September survey also showed that increases in output and new orders, easing of price pressure, and manufacturers’ confidence for the next 12 months have supported the sector’s health despite the lower dhydroponics, and drip irrigation in the country

AVAO City – Israel is eyeing collaboration with the Philippines on food security and agriculture. “We are participating in the exhibition here (in Davao City) with Israeli companies that represent technologies and business practices, looking for opportunities to network with our counterparts in the private sector and the Philippine government,” Ambassador Ilan Fluss said at the 24th Davao Agri Trade Expo here. He said that they are exploring w he t he r t he y c an e st abl ish businesses like biogas, dair y farming, hydroponics, and drip irrigation in the country. Fluss said agriculture is the main focus of his efforts as the Israeli ambassador to the Philippines. The ambassador said he has met President Ferdinand R. A BLACK cloth was draped over the Press Freedom Monument in Cagayan de Oro Thursday morning as local media groups joined the nationwide condemnation of the killing of radio comment ator Perciva l Mabasa. Mabasa, better known as Percy Lapid, was shot dead by two assailants on board
a motorcycle in Las Pinas City on Monday night. He was 63. A staunch critic of the Duterte and Marcos Jr. administrations, Mabasa is the second journalist killed under the current administration, after the stabbing of broadcaster Rey Blanco in Negros Oriental in September, the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines said.
