Briefly Rescued

A TOTAL of 23 individuals, including four minors, who purportedly became victims of human trafficking were rescued by police operatives in Agusan del Nor te on Wednesday night. In a statement Thursday, PNP chief, Gen. Rodolfo Azurin Jr. said members of the PNP Women and Children Protection Center (WCPC) also arrested three suspects during the rescue operation at a resort in Barangay Manapa in Buenavista town at around 7:30 p.m. Based on the reports of WCPC director, Brig. Gen. Arcadio Jamora Jr., Azurin said the entrapment and rescue operation stemmed from infor mation from a c o n c e r n e d c i t i ze n w h o reported the suspects are allegedly offering underaged victims for sex in exchange for money.

HE local government has ordered a ban on "political branding" on all government properties.

In a memorandum order released Tuesday, Mayor Rolando Uy directed all department heads to remove names, images, photos or images of any politician or political parties on all government-owned materials and equipment.

 The order also prohibits stickers or any identifiable markings of any public officer on the government properties.

"Being an advocate of the "Anti Epal Law" introduced by (former) Senator Emmanuel D. Pacquiao... (the undersigned) adheres to an anti-epal Policy in this current administration," Uy said.

"Epal" is a slang Filipino word describing people with excessive attentionseeking behavior like placing their names on government projects.

Uy also cited the 2021 directive of the Anti-Red Tape Authority for local governments to strike out names and faces on public documents. (PNA)

DAVA O C i t y – D a v a o Region is now “insurgencyfree” following the series of successful peace and order initiatives that dismantled the remnants of the communist New People’s Army (NPA) in the area.

During a meeting at the Naval Felix Apolinario Station here Wednesday, members of the Regional Peace and Order Council– Davao (RPOC-11) signed a resolution declaring the entire region as cleared of insurgents as of Sept. 19, 2022.

Davao region is the third region in the country declared as insurgency-free, following Regions 1 and 9.

Seized cigars ZAMBOANGA City – Authorities have arrested six suspects and seized some P3.4 million worth of smuggled cigarettes in separate antismuggling operations in this city and nearby Basilan p r ov i n c e, o f f i c i a l s s a i d Tuesday.

The bulk of the smuggled cigarettes was seized Sunday in Basilan, which saw the arrest of three of the six suspects in the waters off Hadji Muhtamad town.
