Investment haven THE Department of Finance (DOF) is reassuring American businessmen the government will continue to make the Philippines an attractive place for investments. In a statement, Finance Secretary Carlos G. Dominguez III said the new administration wants to have more competition and innovation in the area of business in country while maintaining a level playing field for all. Dominguez also said the Duterte administration is pursuing a policy of “economic diversification” to open more markets for Philippine products overseas, encourage more investments, and create betterpaying jobs for Filipinos.
Rural devt projects THE World Bank recently started its implementation support mission to the Department of Agricultureled Philippine Rural Development Project (DA-PRDP) with a kick-off meeting at the DA’s central office in Quezon City. A team of experts from the World Bank headed by Frauke Jungbluth, the lead agriculture economist and task team leader of the mission, will attend meetings and subproject site visits in the Project’s clusters in North Luzon, which covers the Cordillera, Ilocos, Cagayan Valley and Central Luzon regions; South Luzon, which covers the CALABARZON, MIMAROPA and Bicol Regions; Visayas; and Mindanao. This mission follows the second implementation support mission conducted April this year that earned the PRDP a satisfactory performance rating from the World Bank, just like in the earlier review mission held in November last year.
