Briefly Garbage woe over THE continuous call of the residents of Cagayan de Oro has finally been addressed as the City Local Environment and Natural Resources Office (CLENRO) confirmed that the local government has a new garbage collector. Engr. Armen Cuenca, CLENRO head, said the joint venture of Jomara Konstruckt Corporation/Tencil Construction Incorporated will now manage the garbage collection in the city in collaboration with CLENRO. The Jomara Konstruckt Corporation is a Cebu-based company, while Tencil Construction Incorporated is based in this city.
Caraga’s inflation rate BUTUAN City – The Philippine Statistics Authority in the Caraga Region (PSA-13) reported that inflation rate in the region slightly increased to 8.3% in February from 8.1% in January this year. PSA-13 said the higher inflation rate last month was caused by the faster year-on-year growth rate in the index of housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels at 11.6%, from 10.2% in the previous month. Increased inflation rate in furnishings, household equipment, and routine household was also recorded last month at 3.2% from 2.3% in the previous month.
El Niño ready THE Department of Social Welfare and Development in Northern Mindanao Region (DSWD-10) prepositioned Friday 34,518 family food packs (FFPs) amounting to P23.4 million amid the looming drought-induced El Niño season. In a statement Friday, the DSWD-10 said the FFPs delivered to local government units (LGUs) in the region as reserved supply in case calamities will occur. The agency said the FFPs form part of the disaster management protocols for LGUs to provide augmentation to communities and families in need.

KORONADAL City – South Cotabato Governor Reynaldo Tamayo, Jr. has committed to appeal the ruling of the Court of Appeals (CA) allowing open-pit mining method for large-scale mining projects, including the controversial $5.9 billion project in Tampakan town, Diocese of Marbel Bishop Cerilo Casicas said.
In a statement issued Saturday, Casicas disclosed that he and a small team from the diocese, and Tamayo held a closeddoor meeting following the confirmation that the CA had issued a decision favorable to large-scale mining projects eyeing to extract minerals using the open-pit mining method. “ ( It w a s ) a f r u i t f u l conversation,” the Bishop said of Thursday’s meeting held at
the governor’s office in this city. The CA issued the ruling on August 22, 2022 validating the province’s prohibition on open-pit mining, which is contained in its landmark Environment Code approved in 2010. But the ban, the CA ruled, is limited only to smallscale mining operations. “Further, it is clarified that

ILIGAN City — Seven farmers from the municipality of Pangantucan in Bukidnon dominated the first ever Northern Mindanao Coffee Quality Competition held earlier this month, according to the Department of Trade and Industry in Region 10 (DTI-10). coffee beans getting an 87.13% rating from certified Q graders, the experts skilled in sensory evaluation of coffee, according to a statement emailed by DTI10 to MindaNews on Friday. The awarding was held in Malaybalay City on March 18. The Q graders noted hints of “raisin, blueberry, winey, cherry, plum, berries, mango, and floral” while cupping Garces’s winning coffee, according to DTI-10.
