Briefly Strict mining rules DAVAO City – Davao Oriental Governor Corazon Malanyaon has urged local government units (LGUs) Thursday to strictly enforce regulations in all mining activities in the province. In a statement, Malanyaon asser ted the provincial gover nment’s authority as an independent LGU over the mining operations in the province. In a meeting with the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) Wednesday, the governor examined the inventory of all existing mining tenements in the province and the status of mining operations and permits granted by the MGB.
Davao coffee DAVAO CITY – The World of Coffee (WOC) convention at the Milano Convention Center in Milan, Italy, has provided a venue for the Philippine coffee producers to shine internationally. Jeannelle Ellson, marketing specialist of the Philippine Coffee Advancement and Far m Enterprise (PhilCAFE) project, said Philippine coffee— e s p e c i a l l y t h e R o bu s t a variety—received positive feedback during the June 2325 gathering. “We promoted Robusta there, although we brought various coffee varieties to the convention. Italy is known as espressobased when it comes to coffee, but they admire the taste of our coffee and have set a good impression on it,” Ellson said in an interview Wednesday.

he Embassy of Israel, in partnership with the University of the Philippines in Mindanao and the Innovation and Development Accelerators Consortium for Startups in Davao Region (IDEAS– Davao), is gearing up Davao to be recognized as one of the most investable cities in the Philippines. The Israel Embassy and its partnered consortiums in Davao organized on August 11, Thursday, a ‘Davao–Israel Innovation Night: Davao Startups Spotlight’ at Acacia Hotel in line with their first Davao Startup Week in Davao Region. HEALTH officials in Cagayan de Oro City said that vaping is also harmful to everyone’s health, hence it cannot be considered a good alternative for cigarettes. Dr. Tristan Jediah Labitad, t he non-communicable diseases cluster head of the Department of Health (DOH) in Region 10, stood his ground as a health professional and
an advocate that vaping is still detrimental to lung health. “We all know that medicine and science, dynamic man gyud ni sya nga world nuh (it is a dynamic world). So, from time to time, naay mga updates depende sa (there are updates, depending on the) evidence and research nga (that is) available,” explained Brito.

Tribal village opens DAVAO City – The renovation of the Kadayawan Tribal Village in Magsaysay Park here has been fasttracked for its scheduled opening on August 5. One of the highlights of the 37th Kadayawan sa Dabaw Festival next month, the tribal village was built to showcase the rich culture and heritage of the city's 11 tribes. Councilor Al Ryan Alejandre, the Kadayawan Execom spokesperson, said the Kadayawan Tribal Village is “a way of educating the people about the way of living of the tribes living in the city of Davao.”

Water consumers here must expect higher bills for August as the 30-percent water rate adjustment takes effect this month, a Davao City Water District (DCWD) official said Monday. JC Duhaylungsod, DCWD spokesperson, said during the “Kapehan sa Davao” media forum that the Local Water
Utilities Administration (LWUA) approved last month the proposal of the DCWD to increase water rate by 60 percent to raise funds to support the agency’s 10-year development program. To cushion the adverse impact of the water rate hike on local consumers, she explained that the 60 percent increase would be implemented in three BILLS/PAGE 7
