Should I Lift My Subaru for Off Road Performance?
Should I Lift My Subaru for Off Road Performance?
O Once the thought of taking their first off road adventure crosses the mind of a Subaru enthusiast, a lot of things race through their heads. It's logical to assume that they battle with questions about how to attain the ultimate in Off Road Performance - namely, proper clearance, having the appropriate tires, and being able to clear all those big obstacles.
In past articles, we have discussed some reasonable aftermarket preparations an enthusiast should investigate to make sure they enjoy their new outdoor adventurers without coming home with their vehicle on the end of a tow hook or a flatbed truck. There are many levels of sweet dreams when the outdoor spirit comes calling. Some are to the extreme and somewhat unrealistic when you look closely and then chat with experienced off road experts, overland vehicle builders, and trail worn drivers. Others are outlined boldly with concerns for safety while ensuring their vehicle can perform efficiently while getting them to a destination a little bit off the grid but close enough to get help if needed. We find that lots of responsible enthusiasts at this level ask some very telling questions about specific modifications that might not tick all the boxes for an extreme risk taker, but focus on the safety, stability and the longevity of their vehicle - so it can serve them both on the weekend trail and get them through the weekday commute. Obviously, modifications that enhance road and track performance are very different from those that are related to the off road world, but, believe it or not, can parallel since there is the same risk of danger if the upgrades are not executed properly.
Off Road Performance: Weigh the Differences
Before the Subaru enthusiast turns their day dreams of barreling down the trail over "hill and dale" into reality, they should seriously consider and ponder some important questions. Investing in an upgrade to bring your vehicle into the world of off road adventure is a great way to intensify the love of driving the beloved Subaru platform, boosting its stature, and increasing the performance profile of a vehicle that already has some impressive built-in capabilities. But first, we need to examine both the positive and negative sides of the argument to outline what benefits or disappointments could result in an overblown and unnecessary upgrade. Before they walk into any purchases with an aim to make their joyride into a monster, the first question that an enthusiast needs to ask should involve the frequency of their off-road adventures. Will the Subaru be taken overland every weekend or would the goal align with low-level, medium challenges, periodic back road vacations, or special events on well worn trails during seasonal camping getaways? In addition, what are the drivers expectations for the vehicle's off road performance? How difficult are these trails they imagine in their dreams? What obstacles does the driver expect to face during this experience? The smart, responsible enthusiast will realize that an installation of a lift kit and some large tires does not automatically morph your all-wheel-drive Subaru Crosstrek or Forester into a rock crawling, mud-slinging dual range four wheel drive beast that will eat up any earth, water, and granite it encounters. It is important to note that increasing the height and clearance of a Subaru correctly and accurately with a proper aftermarket kit while also equipping the vehicle with an appropriate set of wheels and tires will obviously improve its offroad capability and amplify the driving experience.
We all know that the factory-provided clearance height and the impressive symmetrical all-wheel-drive system woven into the Subaru SUV design will give any enthusiast with dirt under their fingernails a very good foundation to build their house of trailblazing dreams. The brand offers a driver a blank slate to express themselves as they think about the wilderness. In addition, newer Subaru models are configured with X-Mode, an offering that has proven to further amplify the off road performance of these outdoor craving platforms. Also, we know that Subaru platforms like the Crosstrek, the Outback, and the Forester are both practical and easily maintained with replacement parts being available from a number of sources making any damage caused on the trail less challenging and more recoverable to the concerned enthusiast. The introduction of lift kit modifications and upgrades of tire sizes are all acceptable considerations for the Subaru owner who wants to breathe in some off-grid dust and dirt. The experienced trail boss within the Subaru community knows quite well that a wide selection of lift kits, specifically designed wheels and tires, as well as more robust suspension parts are all readily available from aftermarket manufacturers like LP Aventure, Pedders, RalliTEK, and others. Off the showroom floor, Subaru's off road models are already designed with enough clearance to upgrade to larger tires to help start the adventure slowly and with more confidence. Adding a lift kit to the vehicle will help ensure an installation of larger, wider tires will avoid any contact with the inside of the wheel well and maintain proper and safe clearance. An appropriate lift kit and a choice of larger tires will improve the Subaru's ability to conquer challenging obstacles on the trail and gain better traction with deeper and more aggressive treads.
Important Considerations
The most obvious disadvantage when lifting a Subaru beyond a reasonable height is the change in the vehicle's center of gravity. First, enthusiasts who use their vehicle as a daily driver but also like to venture out on most weekends for a bit of light to medium trail running, will find a lift kit option within 1 to 2 inches more than adequate for your Subaru. This means that at the lower end of the upgrade, a 1 inch increase, is for someone who might take a camping trip without bringing the vehicle out on challenging trails. A 1.5 to 2 inch lift upgrade would be ideal for the daily driver who needs the vehicle to handle well and be a reliable mode of transportation each day, but also provides some extra ground clearance to conquer challenging terrain too dangerous to approach with the stock setup. Installing a 2 inch lift on the vehicle keeps it low enough to avoid being top heavy, while it can still maintain proper handling on the road, and also it keeps the CV Joint (constant velocity joint) angles comfortable without causing any issues in any driving situation. Now, for someone who wants to achieve maximum clearance without dropping the subframe, upgrading to a 2.5 inch lift kit may be something worth investigating, but not without expert consultation and research. Careful consideration of this upgrade option is important primarily because this height increase brings the CV’s angle and the differential clearance to the maximum bringing the Subaru off roader's overall clearance higher than most factory standard designed 4-wheel-drive vehicles. It is wise to never exceed 2.5 inches in lift on your Subaru or serious trouble may be the result of your efforts to achieve extreme off road performance.
Obviously, adding a lift kit to a Subaru off roader does not only affect the height, which, depending on the extremes a driver may pursue, can be either beneficial or cause a negative outcome. Outside of affecting the vehicle's center of gravity, a height modification for off road performance can seriously degrade the vehicle's handling on the road, which is important since a large percentage of those who enjoy the weekend trails also need to get to work safely each day. Handling and braking are two of the most important considerations for an enthusiast when investigating this type of upgrade for their Subaru. As we mentioned, a lift kit upgrade changes the center of gravity. A higher center of gravity increases the chance of a rollover accident which is concerning both on and off the road. Also, an important factor to consider is the negative effect on crash safety in the event of an accident. A vehicle that has been lifted will collide with a smaller vehicle differently than with most vehicles. Raising the height of any vehicle raises the height of the frame rail and the vehicle's secondary energy absorbing structure. The standard safe design and height of the Subaru is altered significantly with an extreme lift kit making the vehicle more dangerous when a collision with a small vehicle occurs. Outside handling, braking, and collision safety, a number of other issues including increased wear and tear, fuel economy, life of the vehicle, and the resale value must also be considered before deciding to lift your Subaru to enhance off road performance and take the journey of excitement outdoors.
Remember again that a Subaru SUV is not a four-wheel-drive vehicle and was not designed specifically for the most extreme performance challenges, but, with the appropriate knowledge, understanding of the vehicles limitations and capabilities, the Crosstrek, the Forester, or the Outback can be responsibly upgraded to provide some additional off road performance and offer an unparalleled level of enjoyment compared to any other vehicle in its class. Subimods can offer some expert consultation regarding appropriate lift kit configurations while connecting an interested enthusiast with a number of options to upgrade the height, suspension, and handling on their favorite Subaru SUV platform. As we have mentioned, lifting an all-wheel-drive Subaru can definitely provide some off road performance enhancements for the excited enthusiast wanting to have both a dependable vehicle with a dual personality and reliable design, and a rugged overlander with an adventurous profile which will provide years of outdoor motoring and enjoyment. We cannot emphasize more directly that safety is the primary bullet point to highlight when you are considering a lift upgrade for your vehicle, whether it is for part or full time recreation. Remember, your vehicle is no good to you when broken down after not completing the proper research and preparations. Simply, the Subaru driver wants a vehicle that can get them where they need to be each day whether on the highway or the high trails. With the correct knowledge, quality aftermarket parts, and expertise, your Subaru can be transformed safely and affordably into the vehicle of your off roading dreams.

I’ve always liked Foresters, and when I got my second one, I realized I wanted to build it up and see what I could do. The Subaru community is amazing—everyone is so supportive and helpful, which makes the journey even more enjoyable. I really enjoy going to shows and seeing people take interest in my build, especially since you don’t see many modified Foresters out there.

SHOW SHOW CASE CASE
I originally came from the Toyota world growing up and was a huge fan of rally racing. I had owned five Celicas, and my last Toyota was actually a Lexus IS300, but it didn't handle the midwestern winters very well. I decided I needed an AWD vehicle with four doors (for car seats) and wanted a turbo. That narrowed it down to a Subaru WRX or an Evo, and the WRX was the clear winner. Over time, I became deeply involved in the Subaru culture and eventually worked my way into a parts role at the local Subaru dealership.

PREPARING YOURSELF AND YOUR SUBARU FOR OFF-ROADING
Around the Subimods home base here in Southern New England we see a lot of Subaru vehicles on our roads that roll proudly while exhibiting their own unique personalities. We know that the Subaru tribe is filled with all types of passionate warriors who choose to take their chariots into assorted battlegrounds depending on what types of scars and stories they wish to take home and proudly share with those who care to listen. While reading these words you may be reminded that the Subimods team is constantly in touch with enthusiasts around the world concerning their performance needs and sometimes to receive a little education about modifications, maintenance, safety, and preparation when your Subaru serves you more than a passive daily driver. The Subaru faithful often take their favorite ride into those noisy places where a mixture of gas fumes, the sound of screeching tires, throaty exhausts, along with loosened tar, dirt and dust mix in the air to provide pure joy for the authentic pleasure seeker. As we are often focusing on road and track, we can easily forget that in New England (and other regions with spacious wilderness and active outdoor recreation) these pleasure seeking places are sometimes quiet, but a trail heavy paradise ready for exploration, climbing, and dirt kicking. No oil-slicked, crowd-filled bleacher, burger vendor event here, but an experience fueled with the same Subie spirit and adrenaline expelled on any manmade blacktop.
Unapologetic Pleasure Seekers
As with any type of motorsport or activity that includes extreme performance, preparation is a key component to success and safety. The primary goal of the Subimods team is to guide our customers and other associated interested enthusiasts both accurately and safely so they can pursue their excitement and passions with joy and be prepared for what unknowns may come their way. We know that all Subaru enthusiasts share the same feeling of brand pride, loyalty, and anticipation as they follow their dreams one drive at a time, but the factions within this world who live in both the realms of road and track and the off-roading space are historically very unique and face a completely different set of challenges in their individual arenas. We are going to focus on those who invest their time and energy powering overland, exploring "the road not taken" and the trails to get to the great campsite by the lake, but not necessarily rock climbing over 2 ft boulders in Moab, Utah. It's important to mention that just because you’re not converting your Subaru into a rock crawler doesn’t mean you’re not pursuing the true off-roading experience. One of the first levels of off-roading can be simply defined as safely and smartly driving your Subaru where there are no roads and allowing its designed capabilities and some added modifications to heighten your experience and build memories. We want to concentrate on how to help those less experienced prepare both themselves and their Subaru of choice to have the best, most safe experience down the beaten path as possible.
Look Before You Leap
Subaru lovers know that they have a good selection of choices if they wish to pursue some extra-curricular activities or use their vehicle to spice up driving on the weekends. Subaru's daily drive friendly hatchbacks, mid-size four door commuters, and their sporty alternatives fill the roadways across America, but their high-performance groomed, all-wheel drive sport sedans and rugged SUV options are the ones who spark an interest in the true adventurer, on or off road, prompting them to dream of more memorable days.
When an enthusiast who seeks thrills in the wild meets a vehicle equipped with a well-known and touted symmetrical all-wheel drive system (which sends power to all wheels simultaneously for maximum traction and acceleration) that is affordable and at their disposal, they will fall in love and possibly take that love to the next level.
In the same vein, this love may prompt discussions that involve "living to the extreme" and "driving over your head". We have all heard the same stories many times over. You know the ones. The tales that always involve an ill-prepared person with their newest toy who had the best of intentions. We all know someone who could have, should have, or would have, if they had taken proper steps or known a little bit more before stepping into that situation or proceeding to take that chance.
Subaru's three most popular off-roading flavored offerings, the Crosstrek, the Forester, and the Outback are models that scream excitement and adventure, but are also vehicles that should be outfitted properly to protect the driver, their investment, and the factory designed capabilities that the unknown obstacle can punish or destroy as the new off-roader seeks to taste the thrill of the open trail.
DON'T FORGET YOUR PARACHUTE
As an enthusiast who has just taken ownership of a Crosstrek, Forester, or Outback, there are a few basic and truly obvious points to consider before taking your Subaru on its first off-roading adventure. Honestly, before an owner of one of these vehicles drops one dollar on a modification or serious upgrade, they should wrap some critical thinking around their future plans. Whether this includes a simple day trip to a campsite by the lake or a remote dirt trail drive to your fishing cabin in the mountains, preparation is key to safety, enjoyment, and success. Any serious off-road enthusiast or practitioner of motor sports will stress a detailed inspection of the vehicle before it moves from the garage or driveway. A quick but thorough overview of the vehicle which includes an inspection of the engine, transmission, suspension, brakes, and drivetrain should be the first step of preparation. Catching something simple (that always leads to something major if not addressed) could avoid a serious failure in a remote area resulting in an accident, injury, or even a fatality. Perform an inspection under the hood, under the vehicle, and on all four sides of the exterior to determine if the vehicle is safe and secure. Determine if your tires are in good condition, have proper tread, and are properly inflated for the conditions you may encounter. Extreme trail conditions will require better grip, so upgrading to offroading tires for better traction is always a good choice. While under the hood, check and/or replace dirty air filters, fuel filters, and any questionable belts or hoses to avoid serious failures on the trail. Lastly, complete all the steps covered in your vehicle's normal maintenance procedures, it is best practice to change the engine oil and filters to complete the basic preparation.
A smart second phase of preparation is to perform some physical modifications to give your vehicle another layer of protection and enhancement to make sure any unknown or unexpected obstacles will not cause your Subaru to stop short when you need to move forward or cause serious damage which could result in injury or a fatality. First, protecting the undercarriage, sides, and both the front and rear of your Subaru is extremely important when you are on a journey through territory that may expose rocks, debris, and other natural challenges that propose potential hazards. Installing appropriate skid plates to protect the components exposed underneath the vehicle and adding sturdy brush guards to protect the front end from branches and obstacles would be an excellent investment before hitting the trail. Secondly, purchasing additional lighting which includes protected LED spot lights for the front or a more expansive LED light bar for the roof will greatly improve visibility if caught on a dark trail at night. Next, as mentioned earlier, purchasing a more aggressive and robust set of tires and wheels designed primarily for off-road driving would be another smart investment before stepping into the wilderness for that potentially challenging journey. There are many options for direct replacement of the factory set which give the vehicle a better thread, grip, and profile for off-road performance, but are not different from the stock size. If an appropriate upgrade to a larger wider tire size is wanted, the last preparation an enthusiast would need to consider would be a modification to their Subaru's height and suspension to raise the clearance and provide more performance when larger obstacles and possible holes in the trail may be too challenging for the stock configuration.
aid supplies, extra water, non-perishable food, a quality LED tools. The items in this kit can get a vehicle out of a difficult or or save a life - so becoming knowledgeable about these items including them in your planned journey is an important step and prepare. Another important addition to your preparation list would be engine oil, and brake fluid just in case a journey becomes longer than expected in a remote area.
that is often taken for granted since most people communicate with cell phones, a reliable communication system like a two-way easier to ensure proper communication in remote areas. Some systems and smartphone applications are designed for off-road use very helpful to navigate challenging trails. Most importantly, even have been checked, before you head out for that weekend yourself and practice off-road driving techniques. Get familiar control and obstacle negotiation by spending some time on your home then progress to a more challenging environment as comfortable with the vehicle under these circumstances. Once you behind the wheel, you will become a better enthusiast, driver, and of the Subaru community. Every step you take, from check-ups to suspension is one more towards your ultimate safety, the security of off-road gang, and enjoyment over the life of your Subaru. Whether regular inspections of your Subaru before you head out on the trail or camping destination, invest seriously in off-roading accessories, or to purchase aftermarket components for a major mechanical upgrade, a defined course of proper preparation will allow you to off-road experiences with your Subaru while keeping safety and protection at the highest priority.

I bought the vehicle about two years ago. I originally planned to lower it and make it a street build, but plans changed and I decided to lift it with a 2” ADF lift. The vehicle is definitely unique, featuring a Spinnywhoosh cherry blossom decal running down the sides and unequal length headers flowing into a 3” WRX/Forester XT exhaust. I’ve had a blast taking it through the Pine Barrens and have plenty of stories to tell about the broken parts that have fallen off — the biggest being my exhaust, which was all caught on video.

LIVING OUTDOORS
More Than Setting Up Camp
Being a Subaru enthusiast in today's world is not just about car shows, motorsports, or investing time in the pursuit of performance and everything to do with the track and burning tires. Some of the most dedicated enthusiasts would rather experience a weekend of mountain trails, conquering obstacles, and enjoying the great outdoors while also building cherished memories with family, friends, and like-minded peers. Honestly, when it comes to the heart felt passion within the true enthusiast personality, there is no difference between someone who loves a great track day, spending time racing, or drifting with friends, and a person who loves to get behind the wheel of their favorite all-wheel-drive, navigate through the mud, brush, and woods to feel that same adrenaline rush. The only difference is the choice of genre and the underlying reasons why these activities are both rewarding and fulfilling to their life. Obviously, there are a lot of characteristics that align for a person who may be considered a serious follower of the overland lifestyle. First, being a lover of the outdoors is a little important since this is the primary environment which supports their recreation. A person that has a natural love for nature, viewing beautiful landscapes, camping, living off the land and the appreciation of wildlife may already be a perfect fit. But, this pursuit is much more expansive than owning a tent, wearing hiking boots, and knowing how to build a campfire. There are several additional aspects to include before wearing and deserving the overland badge.
Anyone who loves to drive, but also pursues a passion for performance and experiencing true control over a machine designed to overcome challenges is a candidate for this lifestyle and practice. First, not only those who seek adventure, but ones who crave it and search for that feeling and rush of adrenaline, extreme excitement, taking risks, and also the natural desire for exploration and discovery are the ones you will find on the trails of the world with smiles on their faces, and dirt on their hands and no complaint in their hearts. Also, these are individuals who have an enormous degree of resilience, patience, robust spirit, and can adapt to most any situation or challenge laid at their feet. Exposing themselves to a problem or a puzzle is not an issue, but something they look forward to during their journey. They enjoy the mental exercise which forces them to be prepared, quickly adapt, and think fast to navigate efficiently and overcome any challenge they meet. It is rare to find an off-road, outdoor junkie who is not a natural problem solver. Experienced and dedicated overland enthusiasts have developed a keen set of senses and carry a toolbox of skills that help them survive, adapt, and be sure-footed no matter what circumstances or challenges they meet. Lastly, it's important to note that beyond the technical and practical skills, the most successful of these individuals also should have a solid sense of community, loyalty, and empathetic spirit since the safest, smartest, and most enjoyable off-road experiences happen within a group. Participating in organized group events helps to educate about the lifestyle, build friendships, establish trust, share knowledge, and above all, keep everyone's safety and life top of mind.
All hobbyist pursuits, namely those that involve mechanized equipment or vehicles that are powerful and require specific skill to operate and enjoy, should be taken seriously and supported with a good measure of education. It is proven that most fruitful endeavors come with guidance and, as we have mentioned, a level of experienced support. Again, off-roading, trail riding, exploring, and adventure seeking is much more involved than just hopping in a machine, hitting a trail off the grid, climbing rocks, and rolling through muddy ruts. We hear too many stories of thrill seekers trying to take on the wilderness alone. Any experienced overland enthusiast will tell you that there couldn't be a worse idea. One guarantee is that most likely, when you are not expecting something bad to happen, you are alone when it does happen. Murphy's Law, which states that "anything that can go wrong will go wrong" will come into effect very quickly in this scenario In the motorsports world, checks and balances, safety, and experience are paramount to success. Adventure in the wilderness, even though it is quiet, beautiful, and sometimes, less intense, needs to be respected and taken seriously as much as a speed filled day at the track. The outdoors can be a dangerous and unforgiving environment with many things to consider. Venturing out on a trail in unfamiliar territory alone, without proper guidance, instruction, or support can be life changing or life ending. At the minimum, an inexperienced, unprepared off-roader could get seriously lost, or stranded in a very remote area if the vehicle breaks down. Unfortunately, in some cases, an accident could occur leaving both the driver injured or incapacitated and the vehicle seriously damaged. With no one else there to assist or have the ability to act quickly, the scenario can quickly take a negative or deadly turn.
Common Sense and Organized Inspiration
In the mind of an inspired overland enthusiast, it is exciting and encouraging to think about taking a newly modified and upgraded all-wheel-drive vehicle out on the trail. Who wouldn't want to immediately climb in the saddle, do some exploring, adventuring, or off-roading to finally test its capabilities and confirm that all your investments have clearly delivered your vision of performance. If all these investments and upgrades are truly important and worth preserving for repeated outings, a lot of critical decisions need to be made to plot the course. Searching out a group of individuals, especially when you are just getting started, will bring an array of benefits, especially if you are open to the fellowship and community a good group will deliver. Some important factors will become sharply clear when an individual joins a group or club that is truly dedicated to the overland and off-roading lifestyle. Again, the first benefit is gathering and meeting with people that share the same passions for the outdoors and off-road excitement.
These relationships will soon help a new member to learn some important and necessary skills that will make the experience more enjoyable, safe, and rewarding, since those most experienced will often want to share their knowledge to keep the group stable and free of bad situations on the trail. Also, being part of a good group will help the novice learn about appropriate upgrades, the most reliable parts, and ways to improve a vehicle without wasting time, money, and effort. It's never bad having someone who has been around the block as a guide to avoid some costly mistakes. In addition to the education and guidance from veteran off-roaders, there is the overarching benefit of being a part of a group that has a specific purpose. Most often groups help support charity events, drive environmental advocacy, and also serve as examples within their community by having fun while teaching safety and teamwork.
Adventure One: Small Ideas Can Grow Much Bigger
Overland enthusiasts are not much different than anyone else who wishes to fulfill a passionate belief while sharing their experiences with others who really understand their purpose and energy. Looking over the expanse of today's car culture, even the most inexperienced individual might notice how many factions and organizations exist that wear the cloak of support, but may not truly practice what they preach. Members of the Subaru community would like to maintain its structure as one that is based on diversity, camaraderie, and the sharing of knowledge so those who came before can ensure the torch is passed with care and a reputable measure of integrity. Coming across a group of enthusiasts who have a passion for more than a brand, but also a belief and purpose is both encouraging and empowering to say the least, which makes it important to highlight their existence and discuss their history. Adventure Overland New England (O.N.E), a group of off-road enthusiasts, was founded by Nik Berthelette and Adam Z. Back at the beginning of 2023 as a welcoming refuge and base camp for both Subaru owners and overland enthusiasts who pursue multiple passions, inclusive ideals, and are practitioners of the outdoor lifestyle at all experience levels. Obviously, their name pinpoints their base of membership quite clearly. Since the beginning, Adventure One has successfully brought together a collection of enthusiasts from the New England region, namely Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, and Connecticut, to create a space for all to share, encourage, and inspire through their love of this lifestyle and practice of safe outdoor-based recreation. During their relatively short existence, meteoric acceleration and solid stance in the community, they have built a foundation and set of standards that may be a source of envy from other groups.
"What began as a small idea quickly grew into something much bigger.", Berthelette said with pride. "Today, Adventure O.N.E has nearly 1,200 followers on Instagram, 158 members officially registered on our website, and an active Discord community of over 100 members, connecting daily." Clearly inspired by a connected spirit of fellowship and strong values, the Adventure O.N.E team does not seem to show any signs of breaking through the corners. "Our members range in age from 21 to over 40, but all share the same love of adventure, community, and the Subaru spirit.", Berthelette confirmed. "One of the things we’re most proud of is the achievements of our members," he said. "Brendan Maloney, one of our current admins, earned Best Off-Road Class at Wicked Big Meet this year with his Crosstrek build — a testament to the passion and creativity that runs through our group." Nik's passion obviously has fueled the group's energy for involvement and becoming a supportive guiding block for the entire Subaru community by getting firmly involved in events to help momentum and inspiration exist through the same channel. "Since 2023, Adventure O.N.E has represented at Wicked Big Meet as a club vendor, bringing not just rigs and gear, but also energy, positivity, and camaraderie.", Berthelette supportively exclaimed. "Each year, we organize a multi-day campout leading up to the event — this year drawing 24 attendees.", he confirmed. "It’s become one of our favorite traditions: a way to bond around the campfire before taking on one of the biggest Subaru gatherings in the country." More than just a group of people who need a way to spend their weekends and justify their hobbyist investments, Berthelette and his membership go above and beyond what many might expect from the average enthusiast group. Not elitists, but welcoming overland evangelists who think uniquely.
Rolling Along With Your Own Community
Heading out into the wild, meeting challenges, and observing the world from a different view as an overland enthusiast, is no less thrilling than a pioneering explorer discovering a new world or coming across uncharted territory. The ultimate thrill for a new practitioner is the common love of getting to places and wondering if anyone else has ever been there, or heading for remote places far past the fire roads or dried river beds that were only traveled by wildlife. The comfort in establishing an overnight camp spot to observe the open sky, take in the quiet, then waking in the morning to decide to give that next unexplored trail on the satellite map a try. Heading off, there is anticipation of possibly driving the vehicle to its performance limit and challenging its suspension capabilities. The primary reward for enthusiasts within this realm is knowing it was all accomplished alongside a community of individuals from all walks of life that gather as one unified group that have the same passions, share the same goals, and pursue the same interests. The ultimate exercise of bonding where people meet challenges and share experience. Moreover, there is the connection through the builds and modification journeys they have started, from those beginners that may have only just begun, to the veterans who know the places they had been once, and couldn't go further, but now can because of the other members. One level of accomplishment is looked to as a source of inspiration. This is the foundation of what the outdoor, overland lifestyle is about all while building your vehicle to accomplish those challenging goals. The positive group dynamic championed by the founders and members of Adventure O.N.E has pushed them forward to help themselves maintain the belief and importance behind enjoying the outdoors and experiencing the performance which allows them to conquer obstacles on the trail and in life.
Above all, this group is still firmly based on what should be pursued beyond recreational enjoyment to maintain that dedication to purpose and truly attain the ultimate satisfaction which lifts a group's spirit. "Adventure O.N.E was founded on the belief that a community should be open, non-discriminatory, and supportive.” Nik said. “ Whether someone is a seasoned off-roader or has just purchased their very first Subaru, our goal is to provide a place to learn, connect, and grow." This organization keeps their purpose and goals up front while also following a road which sets examples for the off-road enthusiast by educating and helping to set standards for anyone who crosses the trail laid behind their efforts. "Our adventures aren’t just about fun; they’re also about responsibility.", Berthelette explained. "In 2024, members joined together for a trail cleanup, collecting nearly 100 lbs of trash to help preserve the spaces we love to explore.", he said. "While we haven’t yet partnered with a formal charity, we’re actively looking ahead to state park donations, dealership collaborations, and local business partnerships as ways to give back." It is important to mention that the outdoor, overland lifestyle should be taken as seriously as any other automotive-based passion that an enthusiast wishes to pursue and support. Again, there is much more to this than a camping trip, a Sunday drive with the family, or a weekend of seeing how far into the woods you can drive your lifted performance vehicle. Good groups like Adventure O.N.E are proving that being organized, driven, and aware does not have to remove the enjoyment from activities that happen in beautiful places. These attributes can only make enthusiasts better people, better drivers, and more responsible humans at the end of the day. "Our slogan, ‘Purpose Built, Community Driven, Adventure Ready’, embodies our vision." Berthelette adds with strength. "Our motto, ‘Trail Responsibly’, reminds us that the trails we travel and the people we meet along the way deserve respect.", he confirms. "We’re committed to leaving every trail, every forest, and every interaction better than we found it. For me, this isn’t just about driving my modified 2016 Crosstrek Premium or my 2024 Outback Wilderness.", he said. "It’s about building something bigger. A community where passion and respect go hand in hand, and where every adventure creates a story worth sharing."

SHOW SHOW CASE CASE
My journey with Subaru began in 2018 when I needed a vehicle with better gas mileage and more space. At the time, I was part of two volunteer fire departments, and my old Ranger had simply become too small. I only planned on upgrading the wheels and tires—famous last words. Before long, I was scrolling through Instagram, seeing what others were doing with their Subarus off-road. Soon after, I was meeting up with fellow Subaru owners and hitting the trails myself.

My Forester is the second Subaru I’ve owned, with the first being my very first car at age 20 — an ’04 WRX Wagon that I lifted with Forester struts and A/T tires. My current 2021 Forester has quickly become my goal of an extremely functional overland vehicle that I take on trips weekly. The Forester is purpose-built for backcountry travel and allows me to bring my hobbies — photography, video, mountain biking, and fishing — along with me. I have plans for a month-long trip across the U.S., living solely out of the Forester, and afterward, I’ll refine the setup for future international trips. vehicle:2021SubaruForesterSK

A strong connection and presence in their regional and national rally community helped the RalliTEK team transform their experience, knowledge, and skillset into solutions designed for both everyday enthusiasts and practitioners of extreme performance who drive and enjoy their favorite Subaru vehicles on and off the road.
Why are RalliTEK products important?
Trusting that a product will not only improve performance but will also serve a purpose to enhance the stability or safety of your vehicle is no joke. Especially, in many cases, when your investment must serve double duty, both as recreational enjoyment and a dependable form of daily transportation.
As a provider of specialized products, RalliTEK serves an important purpose since they supply a demand for premium performance products that not only enhanced a vehicle's power, amplify its overall appearance, and vastly improve its handling capabilities, but also maintain a specific level of safety and stability of your overland craving Subaru. Specifically, just to name one, in the category of performance suspension solutions, RalliTEK has gained an impressive reputation for providing the market with the most advanced Subaru suspension and off-road protection. Also, even though the Subaru's are well-known for their adventure ready personalities, standardly equipped to handle winding trails, backwoods camping explorations, and rugged terrain, their performance is far more advanced with appropriate underbody protection. Whether your vehicle needs an Extreme Off-Road Kit, a Suspension Lift Kit, an Underbody Protection Package including Skid Plates and Rock Sliders, Wheels, Tires, a Specialized Off-road Exhaust, or Cooling systems, RalliTEK can step in and serve your Subaru's important purpose.
Why
should you purchase RalliTEK products?
RalliTEK’s diverse background and extensive experience in off-road and rally performance as both drivers and enthusiasts allows their innovations to inject a powerful and impactful level of quality into all of the products they sell. Unlike most of the standard OEM off road options that offer the consumer the least amount of component coverage, lift, durability, and sub-par material, RalliTEK products are designed to handle the most challenging scenarios and obstacles your Subaru will confront on the trails and hills of its journey. Moreover, as experienced enthusiasts themselves, RalliTEK doesn't offer a "one-product-serves-all" solution, but they do have a full understanding of the critical need of the off-roading practitioner which includes solutions that are built for maximum durability, that provide proper ground clearance, and can be easily installed and maintained. Simply, an investment in Rallitek provides the Subaru overland enthusiast with products that deliver reliable protection, stability, and performance for off-grid adventures, security for wintertime driving that is plagued by snow, ice, water-drowned roads, and the daily commute whose roads and highways can prove to be just as unpredictable. RalliTEK brings a full line of performance solutions that truly deliver quality to the overland Subaru platform you choose to drive.
