We chat to TV host and journalist Carissa Walford about breaking into the industry and staying true to yourself.
As she goofs around, belting out a rendition of Amy Winehouseâs Valerie on set, anyone can see that Carissa Walford is destined for a life in the entertainment industry. As stunning as she is down-to-earth, Carissa is a natural draw for the camera, with her outgoing personality and effortless beauty always shining through.
âI love being in front of the camera,â says Carissa. âThatâs where I feel most comfortable.â
The 27-year-old, who spends a lot of her time on the Northern Beaches, has been attracted to performing arts from a young age.
Not one to sit back and wait, Carissa managed a multitude of different jobs, from professional singing and dancing to modelling and acting. But it wasnât until she filled in for Olivia Munn on U.S. talk show Attack of the Show! that Carissa got a real taste for the TV industry.
âI got a presenting role for Fox Sports soon after, which was an amazing training ground for four to five years, and then I auditioned for Foxtelâs Channel [v], which was a dream come true, combining my love for music and hosting.â
Nowadays, you will find Carissa travelling between LA and Australia, where she juggles most of her TV hosting projects.
Carissa has interviewed the likes of Ed Sheeran, Iggy Azalea, Pharrell Williams, One Direction and Cara Delevingne. However, it was her recent hosting of an event for Pink Hope, a health organisation working to reduce the risk of womenâs breast and ovarian cancer, that struck a chord with Carissa.
âI was one of the faces of the campaign and I felt so fulfilled and grateful for my health at that moment, after being surrounded by women who have fought or are fighting cancer,â Carissa says. âImportant, impactful events like this have a purpose, and Iâm really proud to be involved.â
Always staying true to herself, Carissa has never been swept up by the antics of the celebrity world.

âI NEVER WANT TO LOOK LIKE I TRY TOO HARD. EFFORTLESS, CLASSIC AND TIMELESS IS KEY. I NEVER WANT TO BE THE OVERDRESSED OR OVERDONE GIRL IN THE ROOM. LESS IS MORE!â
âI never want to look like I try too hard. Effortless, classic and timeless is key,â she says. âI never want to be the overdressed or overdone girl in the room. Less is more!â
Channelling the effortless style of Alexa Chung, timeless look of Brigitte Bardot, and point of difference from Nicole Richie, Carissa says cool, vintage style such as daisy-printed dresses and black slips are on her list for Summer.
This simple and effortless vibe is also carried through in her beauty routine. Having a slight obsession with makeup, Carissa has a whole room dedicated to her products.
âIronically, though, I donât wear a lot of makeup. I love the âno makeupâ makeup look. Dewy skin, bushy brows, cream highlighters and blush,â she says.
And with one look at Carissaâs flawless, natural beauty, you can understand why!

Step into Spring with this seasonâs newest hair and makeup trends. Bat your eyes with big, bold lashes and glow all day with the perfect highlighter. Top it off with a braid and youâre ready to go!

They say that eyes are the windows to the soul, so be sure to make a statement with luscious lashes. To create dramatic, doll-like eyes at home, here are some handy tips: start with an eyelash curler; hold the curler close to your lash root and clamp down. Next, take a creamy mascara, holding the brush horizontally at the bottom of your lashes. Wiggle slightly from left to right, then brush straight up at the ends of your lashes. To finish, add a set of false eyelashes and watch as your lashes go on for days.

Remember those childhood braids? Well, theyâre back with a vengeance this season. Perfect for when youâre on the go, this trendy look will keep those wispy bits out of the way. Whether you want to achieve skinny French braids, thick Dutch braids or a messy half-up, half-down braid, these are the tools youâll need to master the trade.

Let your light shine with the latest in glowing makeup. Create luminous skin and perfectly-coloured cheeks with cream blushes and pink-tinged highlighter. Enjoy a radiant, sun-kissed visage this Summer.
