PUBLISHER’S MEMO

This edition celebrates the local firms and visionary leaders who are not merely constructing buildings, but are defining the skyline of a modern nation.

Sustainability takes centre stage at Arundel School, an institution that continues to lead by example. Celebrating its Platinum Jubilee, the school commissioned a landmark Solar Walkway in late 2025. This joint venture with the Arundel Parents Association serves as the first phase of the campus’s comprehensive renewable energy journey. The project proves that functional infrastructure can also be a beautiful statement of community spirit and environmental stewardship, turning a simple pedestrian path into a power-generating asset that inspires the next generation of leaders.

Inside this issue, we also explore the concept of “Colour as Emotional Architecture” with Dulux. How paint shapes perception, behaviour, and trust in contemporary spaces is a question every designer must answer. Paint is often regarded as a finishing layer—a decorative element applied once construction is complete—but in reality, colour plays a far more strategic role. As the experts at Dulux suggest, “Paint is not simply a finishing element, it is an integral component of modern architectural thinking.” It has the power to redefine volume, influence mood, and anchor a building within its natural environment.

In the corporate sector, Fusertech Technologies has unveiled its expanded flagship headquarters at 280 Samora Machel Avenue. Designed by Nyatsanza Architects, the facility moves away from traditional office design toward a modern, high-end aesthetic that reflects Fusertech’s status as a premier ICT distributor for global brands like Dell and HP. Bringing this “high-tech” vision to life required the structural precision of Brown Engineering Group, whose expert steelwork ensures the building’s integrity matches its sleek, futuristic facade.

Simultaneously, the machinery driving these national projects is seeing a major upgrade. Exodus & Company recently commissioned a multi-million dollar fleet of road construction equipment at their Mazowe Road site. This massive investment in yellow metal—including pavers, graders, and rollers—underscores the private sector’s commitment to the Emergency Roads Rehabilitation Programme. By modernizing their fleet, Exodus & Company is ensuring that the roads connecting our cities are built to international standards, providing the literal foundation upon which Zimbabwe’s future growth will stand.

Design for a Sustainable Era

In today’s world, architectural excellence is measured not only by form and function, but also by its contribution to the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals. The Solar Walkway exemplifies this principle by merging innovation with responsibility.

An elegant extension of the school’s existing walkway, the structure terminates in a series of waiting shelters that overlook the car park and sports fields. Its steel portal frame supports a solar-panelled roof, while precast concrete benches, painted in Arundel pink and mounted on black masonry bases, offer functional charm with built-in charging ports.

The walkway branches into three distinct arms, forming four triangular courtyards that preserve the school’s iconic views while creating pockets of serenity and shade.

Honouring the Past, Embracing the Future

Though strikingly modern, the Solar Walkway complements Arundel School’s timeless architecture, standing confidently within the school’s 70-year-old landscape. It is a tribute to Arundel School’s heritage and a promise for the future. It is a bold statement of what education, innovation, and community can achieve together.

“The Solar Walkway truly lights the way to a brighter, greener, and more sustainable tomorrow.”

NEWLY EXPANDED INFRASTRUCTURE FOR FUSERTECH TECHNOLOGIES HEAD OFFICE ALONG SAMORA MACHEL

Fusertech Technologies has officially unveiled its newly expanded flagship headquarters and retail centre. Located at 280 Samora Machel Avenue in Eastlea, the facility is a result of the company’s decade-long journey from a 2010 startup to a dominant force in the regional ICT sector.

The project, commissioned to the renowned Nyatsanza Architects, represents a departure from traditional corporate design. The architects created a space that is modern, high-end, and high-tech, reflecting Fusertech’s identity as a premier distributor for international giants such as Dell, Epson, HP, Canon, and Pantum.

High-tech hub

Upon entering the lobby, the commitment to a “high-tech” atmosphere is immediate. The retail space features durable, high-gloss epoxy flooring designed to withstand heavy foot traffic, while the retail counters serve as sleek, minimalist touchpoints for customers.

The centre of the lobby is dominated by a striking floating staircase. A marvel of modern engineering, the stairs are supported by a heavy-

Architectural vision

Working on the building, Nyatsanza Architects drew significant inspiration from the very products Fusertech specializes in. They looked at the intricate geometry of computer electronics and printed circuit boards (PCBs). Things like the lines, the connectivity, and the flow of information were the elements they translated into the building’s DNA.

The exterior reflects this contemporary industrial aesthetic. The structure combines charcoal-grey corrugated metal siding with large glass curtain walls and a distinctive teal-blue accent section that proudly displays global brand partnerships. A large, cantilevered black metal canopy protects the glass-door entrance, supported by modern V-shaped steel beams anchored into reinforced concrete plinths.

duty, black powdercoated steel monostringer. The thick, polished wooden treads provide an organic contrast to the industrial steel and the clear glass balustrades, which are secured with precision-engineered stainless steel clamps.

Sustainability and sophistication

Fusertech’s expansion is about future-proofing. The building is a leader in sustainable commercial design, featuring a significant solar array on the warehouse roof. With at least 32 photovoltaic panels, the facility is designed to operate with high energy efficiency, a necessity for a tech-heavy operation.

Lighting throughout the office wing utilizes recessed square LED panels to ensure low energy consumption while maintaining maximum luminosity. On the upper mezzanine level—a spacious open-plan area with light-colored floor tiles imported from Dubai for their longevity—the lighting takes on a more artistic form. A three-tier “halo” chandelier hangs over a central floor opening, casting a shimmering glow through integrated LEDs and textured crystals.

Designed for performance

The mezzanine floor provides a panoramic view of the operations below, protected by a glass and stainless steel railing. This open floor plan is designed to encourage collaboration among Fusertech’s growing team. For areas requiring focus, the architects utilized frosted glass partitions etched with elegant, curved patterns, maintaining a sense of privacy without sacrificing the flow of natural light.

Security is equally high-tech. The perimeter is fortified with “Clear-Vu” style fencing from Pomona Fences, topped with electric wiring and monitored by 24-hour alarm systems. The manicured lawns and small palm trees surrounding the paved interlocking brick driveway offer a welcoming, professional atmosphere to one of the busiest corridors in the capital.

A new benchmark

Since its inception in 2010, Fusertech has transformed from a consumer electronics retailer into a full-scale IT

solutions provider. This new headquarters is a flagship store and a technical service centre that sets a new benchmark for commercial infrastructure in Zimbabwe.

As Samora Machel Avenue continues to develop into a primary commercial hub, the Fusertech Head Office stands out as an example of what happens when local architectural talent meets a forward-thinking tech giant. For the residents of Harare and the business community at large, the future of Zimbabwean technology has a permanent, high-tech home.

BROWN ENGINEERING ASSISTS

FUSERTECH TO EXPAND ITS HEAD OFFICE FACILITIES IN HARARE

The skyline of Samora Machel Avenue has gained a new architectural landmark as Fusertech Technologies officially unveils its newly expanded flagship headquarters. While the sleek aesthetic was envisioned by Nyatsanza Architects, the structural integrity and precision steelwork that bring the “high-tech” vision to life were the handiwork of Brown Engineering Group, a leading force in Zimbabwean industrial fabrication.

Located at 280 Samora Machel Avenue in Eastlea, the facility serves as a major hub for Fusertech, a company that has experienced tremendous growth since its

founding in 2010. Now a premier distributor for global tech giants like Dell, Epson, HP, Canon, and Pantum, Fusertech required a headquarters that matched the sophistication of the silicon-chip technology it sells.

Concept in steel

Nyatsanza Architects’ design was inspired by the intricate connectivity of a printed circuit board (PCB).

To translate these conceptual lines into a physical structure, Brown Engineering was tasked with fabricating a steel skeleton that prioritized clean lines, wide spans, and technical precision.

The most visible contribution of

Brown Engineering is the massive entrance canopy. This cantilevered black metal awning is supported by distinctive V-shaped steel beams. These heavy-duty structural members are anchored into reinforced concrete plinths with metallic edging, providing a sense of “weightlessness” to the entrance while offering robust protection for the glass-fronted retail space.

“For a tech flagship, the steelwork can’t just be functional; it has to be a piece of art,” noted a project supervisor from Brown Engineering. “The geometry of the V-beams required exact tolerances to ensure the canopy aligned perfectly with the glass curtain walls.”

The floating staircase

Inside the lobby, Brown Engineering’s expertise is on full display with the architectural floating staircase. Eschewing traditional bulky supports, the team engineered a single, heavy-duty black powder-coated monostringer.

This central steel beam acts as the “backbone” of the staircase, supporting thick, polished wooden treads that appear to hover in midair. The engineering challenge lay in the rigidity of the monostringer; it had to be robust enough to eliminate vibration and “bounce” for those walking on it, yet slim enough to maintain the minimalist, openconcept aesthetic required by the architects.

The steel support brackets holding each wooden tread were customfabricated and concealed to maintain the clean silhouette. This is complemented by a glass balustrade secured by circular stainless steel clamps—another detail where Brown Engineering’s precision was paramount to ensure safety and alignment.

Sustainability and space

Fusertech’s commitment to high-tech operations extends to its energy footprint. The building features a warehouse structure with a gabled roof designed and reinforced by Brown Engineering to support a significant solar array. The roof currently hosts 32 photovoltaic panels, organized in banks to maximize energy efficiency.

The use of steel allowed for an expansive, open-plan interior. On the upper level, a large mezzanine creates a central void looking down into the lobby. Brown Engineering used hightensile steel to create these large clear spans, allowing for a “column-free” feel that facilitates the flow of natural light from the floor-to-ceiling windows.

High-end finishes

The synergy between the structural steel and the high-end finishes is seamless. The warehouse section utilizes charcoal-grey corrugated metal cladding, which provides a modern industrial contrast to the classic red face-brick of the lower walls.

Inside, Brown Engineering’s steel frames support the white grid acoustic ceiling system, which is equipped with recessed LED panels and a decorative three-tiered “halo” chandelier. For the retail space, the firm ensured the sub-structure was perfectly level to accommodate the high-performance epoxy flooring, while the office levels feature largeformat tiles imported from Dubai.

Future-proof facility

For Fusertech, this expansion is a statement of stability. The partnership with Nyatsanza Architects and Brown Engineering, enabled the company to create a facility that is as durable as it is beautiful.

The perimeter of the property is equally well-engineered, featuring “Clear-Vu” style security fencing and electric wiring supported by custom steel posts, ensuring that the highvalue inventory inside—ranging from enterprise-grade servers to highend laptops—is well-protected.

As Fusertech continues to grow its footprint across Zimbabwe, its Samora Machel headquarters stands as a towering example of local engineering excellence.
