MANAGER’S MESSAGE
Tommy Hart, General Manager generalmanager@pyccgolf.com
727-381-7922 Ex 12
Dear Members,
As we welcome the month of March, I think we are all ready to say goodbye to the cold snaps and fully embrace the beautiful weather ahead. Those crisp mornings reminded us that winter does occasionally visit Florida, but it is wonderful to see the sunshine return, feel the warmth in the afternoons, and watch the Club come back to life. The golf course is greening up nicely, the marina is active, and the pool deck is once again filled with families enjoying time together. It truly is a great time of year to be at the Club.
March is always one of the most exciting months of our season, and this year is shaping up to be a special one. We are eagerly anticipating our Men’s and Women’s Member-Guest golf tournaments — The Lorelei and The Kraken. These two events are wonderful Club traditions and special opportunities to share our community with friends. Our golf team has been working hard to deliver a first-class experience both on and off the course. While the competition is always spirited, what makes these events so meaningful is the camaraderie, laughter, and lasting memories created along the way.
Easter will be here before we know it and remains one of the most cherished family celebrations of the year. Our Food and Beverage team is preparing a fantastic Easter buffet, and of course, we will continue our traditional Easter Egg Hunt for the children. It is always such a special day around the Club. I encourage you to make your reservations early, as our most popular seating times tend to fill quickly. We want every family to enjoy a relaxed and joyful holiday with us.
With Spring Break just a few weeks away, the pool will certainly be a favorite gathering place. We are proud to be a family-friendly Club, and we appreciate everyone’s help in maintaining that atmosphere. Please remember that swimwear should remain conservative and appropriate, and kindly remind any guests of our dress code before they arrive. Your cooperation helps ensure the Club remains comfortable and welcoming for all. Note: children 15 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
You will also begin to see activity surrounding the upcoming construction of our new Wellness Center. We are excited to move this project forward, and work is expected to begin soon. During construction, a portion of the parking lot will be temporarily blocked to allow the project to progress safely and efficiently. For larger events, we will make every effort to reduce the blocked area and maximize available parking. We are also taking additional steps to improve parking flow during this time. To assist, I kindly ask that all personal golf carts be parked in designated golf cart parking areas to help preserve vehicle spaces for larger vehicles. We greatly appreciate your patience and cooperation as we work through this exciting improvement.
March truly is the heart of our season — lively, social, and full of activity. Thank you for the spirit and enthusiasm you bring to the Club each day. It is a privilege to serve this membership, and I look forward to seeing you around the Club enjoying everything this wonderful time of year has to offer.
Warm regards,
Tommy Hart General Manager
PROPRIETORS CORNER
Dear Members,
I’d like to provide a quick update on our project:
1. Golf course: Planning continues to begin efforts in near future. The basic plan is to begin work in April 2026 with focus on practice facilities, drainage, cart paths and general prep work. None of this should interfere with play and most work should be completed by July. The major renovation of tees, greens, and bunkers is still on schedule to begin spring 2027 with completion November 2027.
2. Marina: Permitting process continues smoothly. All subcontractors have been secured. We have purchased aluminum for dock construction. Fabrication should begin shortly. Our plan is to have the actual docks constructed and ready by end of 2026. We are still on schedule to complete project November 2027. The marina is still scheduled to be closed for renovation January – November 2027.
3. Freestanding center: Permitting process continues. We have zoning approval. State flood approval looks good. Plans have been reviewed and approved by private permit agency. Awaiting city approval. We have been told we are close. We remain committed to a March 1 start date. Fine tune of plans and details continues through multiple planning meetings.
4. Advisory committee: We have met multiple times as a group and through subcommittees. Multiple email chains on a variety of subjects. We are going through the golf course renovation hole by hole getting member input on all the changes. The freestanding building direction and goals have also evolved with committee input.
In summary, the projects are all moving forward. We remain in budget and on schedule. We plan a series of communication efforts once projects begin. Stay tuned.
These projects will be transformative for our club. Thank you again for your support.
Sincerely,
Jeff Paonessa, MD Proprietor

Message from The Pro
Dear Members,
We are pleased to announce the arrival of the Member Guest season! This month, we are thrilled to host two of our premier events: The Lorelei, scheduled for March 6-7, and The Kraken, set for March 26-28. We eagerly anticipate welcoming your guests and showcasing the exceptional offerings of our club.
Let us also take a moment to celebrate last year’s champions as they defend their titles this year:
2025 THE KRAKEN CHAMPIONS: Rylan Sanchez / Gary Renfrow
2025 THE LORELEI CHAMPIONS: Tawna Schilling, Terry Salak-Ward, Karen Eisenbrei, Kelly Loll, Theresa Matthews, Kym Bartlett, Jean Sabre, Nancy Ribits
As we navigate this busy season, we kindly request that when using the driving range, any player hitting a ball over 220 yards utilize the limited flight golf balls with the red stripe. This measure will help minimize the loss of golf balls, benefiting our supplies and ensuring the safety of our neighbors in Kipps, as well as those driving along the back of the range.
Our golf staff will work diligently to pair singles and twosomes to optimize tee times, while the pro shop aims to enhance the efficiency of our tee sheet. To facilitate accurate booking, please provide your guest’s full name when making reservations. This small effort will contribute to smoother pairings and improved availability for all golfers.
We would also like to remind members to be mindful of appropriate golf attire when bringing children or guests to the club. We have noticed an increase in inappropriate clothing on the course, which applies to non-players as well. Adhering to the golf dress code is essential in preserving the traditions and history of the game, ensuring a respectful environment for all.

Pro’s Tip of the Month
Instructor’s Corner:
This month we’re going to talk about the importance of having properly fit golf clubs.
Imagine a formula one driver going to a car lot, looking for his next racecar, and his method of finding his car is closing his eyes, and buying the one he points at. Now if it’s a Ferrari SF90, then he’s in great shape; still has some work to do to keep up but it’s a great start. But if he pointed to a Dodge Caravan, he’s going to struggle to compete to say the least. That’s the process every golfer goes through when they buy golf clubs without getting properly fit. Here are some stats to help. If a player comes to a driver fitting, and they’ve never been fit for a driver, just bought one “off the rack” and their club head speed is 95mph, ball speed is 130mph, launch angle is 7*, and spin is at 3,000rpm; in theory the farthest they can hit that driver is 215 yards.
Now there are a lot of factors to consider when looking at these numbers, shaft flex and profile, shaft weight, shaft frequency, club head speed, club head loft, center of gravity location, and the list goes on and on. Our goal in a fitting is to get this all dialed just right so you can hit the ball farther with the same effort. Assuming club head speed remains the same, we can optimize this player’s total driver distance to 240-245 yards by simply giving them the best driver for their swing. Now I’m going to give you more to think about. If we increase this players total driving distance by 25 yards, in theory that’s 2.5 clubs less into every hole they play; so now they’re hitting a 9 iron or pitching wedge where they were hitting a 7 iron before the driver fitting. Let’s say they fall in love with their new driver and the increase in distance and decide to get fit for irons and we get them an additional 10 yards to their iron game, a small but significant number. That 10-yard increase in their irons is another club less they have to use going into a green so now with the increase in driver distance plus the increase in iron distance, they are hitting an 8 iron into the green instead of a 5 iron or 5-hybrid. The quickest way to take strokes off your score is to get fit for your golf clubs.
Most of the fitting days we offer here at the club are free with no obligation to purchase. Be sure to read the Weekly Golf Updates, the Pasadena Performance Updates, and check Facebook for upcoming fitting days at the club.

The summer of 2026 is going to be a busy one. Much of the focus is going to be on improving the drainage throughout the golf course and I would like to share a little bit of what we are planning. Effective drainage is critical to the health, playability, and long-term sustainability of a golf course. Without proper water movement, excess moisture can saturate soils, weaken turf roots, and create soft, unstable playing conditions that negatively impact both golfers and maintenance operations. Poor drainage often leads to standing water, turf loss, increased disease pressure, and compaction damage from traffic. By improving how water exits the property and moves through the soil profile, a course can maintain firmer, more consistent surfaces that support both high-quality playing conditions and healthier turf.
I am pleased that we will be addressing a large portion of our poor drainage areas this summer. One important improvement involves removing some cart paths. Many of the current cart paths are creating what we call “cart path dams.” The cart path dams have unintentionally blocked the natural movement of surface water. When the cart paths act as barriers, water collects uphill, flooding turf areas and prolonging wet conditions after rain. Eliminating these obstructions allows water to cross paths and continue along its natural flow patterns, reducing puddling and preventing localized damage. This simple structural correction can significantly shorten recovery time following storm events.
Upgrading drainage infrastructure also plays a major role in increasing system capacity. Replacing our standard twelve-inch drain boxes with a much bigger twenty-two-inch box allows for greater water intake during heavy rain preventing overflow and backing up into playing areas. Similarly, increasing underground drain lines from four inches to six inches improves the volume and speed at which water can be carried away from fairways, roughs, and low-lying areas. These larger components work together to handle intense rainfall more efficiently, reducing the risk of saturation and minimizing downtime for repairs and recovery.
In addition, moving and reshaping ground to improve natural surface flow enhances the effectiveness of the entire drainage network. Proper grading directs water toward collection points instead of allowing it to settle in depressions. The combined effect of improving grading, higher capacity drainage structures, and the removal of flow restrictions is a course that dries faster and remains playable sooner after rain. Ultimately, these improvements result in fewer weatherrelated closures, more unrestricted cart days, and better overall experience for golfers while protecting the longterm condition and reputation of the facility.

The Cruising Fleet kicked off the New Year with a fantastic voyage on January 22nd, charting more than 100 nautical miles down the coast to Moss Marina on Fort Myers Beach. The seas were friendly, the weather was perfect, and every vessel arrived safely — even our latenight cruisers. The fleet kept the lights on and the lines ready until the last boat was tied up snugly at the dock.
The weekend delivered sunshine, smooth water, and just enough south wind on Sunday to give everyone a gentle push home. We even managed to stresstest a few golf carts as we loaded them up for a run across the bridge to dinner on the mainland. Best of all, we were thrilled to welcome several new faces into the Cruising Fleet family.
Up Next: February 20–23 – Twin Dolphin Marina, Bradenton
By the time that you read this, we will have arrived in for the Bradenton Area River Regatta, featuring:
• ABBA & Fleetwood Mac national tribute bands
• Sky Elements Lighted Drone Show
• Zambelli Fireworks
• Florida Formula 1 Championships
It promises to be a spectacular weekend both on the water and ashore.

Shoulder Pain in Golf — Why It Happens and What to Do About It
Shoulder discomfort is incredibly common in golfers — especially as the season ramps up. Many players notice soreness when reaching overhead, lifting the golf bag, or even during the follow-through. The shoulder is one of the most mobile joints in the body, which makes it great for a powerful swing — but that mobility also means it relies heavily on strength, coordination, and good mechanics to stay pain-free.
In most cases, shoulder pain in golf isn’t caused by a major tear or serious damage. More often, it’s the result of irritation in the rotator cuff or surrounding tissues from repeated use, limited mobility in the upper back, or poor sequencing through the swing. When the body doesn’t rotate well through the torso and hips, the shoulder is often forced to generate extra motion and speed — leading to overload over time.
It’s also important to know that imaging findings like “tendinitis” or “wear and tear” are extremely common, even in people without pain. What matters most is how the shoulder is moving, how it’s being loaded, and whether the muscles around it are doing their job to stabilize the joint.
The good news is that shoulder pain responds very well to the right approach: restoring mobility through the thoracic spine, improving rotator cuff and scapular strength, and gradually building tolerance to golf-specific demands. With proper guidance, most golfers can return to swinging freely — often with better mechanics and less discomfort than before.
Shoulder pain may be common, but it doesn’t have to limit your game. If you’ve noticed stiffness or discomfort as you return to golf this spring, a quick golf-specific screen can help identify what’s driving it — and what to do about it before it becomes a bigger issue. Call us for a Golf Shoulder Tune-Up for members looking to swing comfortably, move freely, and stay strong all season.
Sincerely, Leighton Peavler
