Manager’s Message

Dear Member,

We are so excited about all of the events scheduled throughout the year, as well as all of the upgrades we have made for the past couple of months. The welcome back cocktail party was a huge hit as we christened the new River Room Bar. I would like to thank all of the members who were involved in planning and building this work of art. This will certainly elevate the member experience while utilizing the River Room and Library, as well as future weddings at the club. We have been off to a running start by selling out the Valentine’s Dinner, two sold-out Woodford Reserve Dinners, as well as the Mother/Son and Father/Daughter Dances this month. Don’t forget to sign-up for the Easter Brunch on Sunday, April 5. We will start the reservations an hour earlier this year at 9:30am (egg hunts start at 12pm).

We are planning a blow-out weekend to kick-off the season and to “cut the ribbon” so to speak on the new event lawn, putting green, racquets garden, and tennis courts. On Saturday, April 25, we will host a Barbeque, Blues Band, and Bourbon Event for all members and guests. We will feature a golf event with juniors and parents as well as a putting challenge on our new putting green. This event will begin at 4pm and end at 10pm. We will offer an incredible selection of BBQ while enjoying a live blues band. And while we will have ample bars for service, we will set-up several bourbon tasting tables as well. On Sunday, April 26, we will host a Tennis Exhibition for members to enjoy watching from the sidelines or from the new Racquets Garden where we will provide food and wine from around the world as a live quartet plays in the background –more details to come. You can make your reservations at the front desk for these events.

We are closing in on the outdoor projects and hope to have everything wrapped up by April. Once the tennis courts are complete, we will finalize the landscaping in the surrounding areas. Again, we are all very excited about the upcoming year and look forward to seeing you around the club soon.

Cheers,

2026 LCC

Between the Tees - Golf facts and stories we bet you didn’t know

Vol. 1 - TPC Sawgrass and The Players Championship

TPC Sawgrass has been home to The Players Championship for over 40 years, making it one of the most iconic courses the PGA Tour visits throughout their season. TPC Sawgrass was built in 1979 when PGA Tour commissioner, Deane Beman, bought the 415-acre plot of swampland for $1.00. He then hired legendary architect Pete Dye to design the course. TPC Sawgrass was one of the first courses to ever be designed with crowds in mind. The mounds you see all around the course are there to be elevated viewing areas for spectators, making it the first course to embrace the idea of “stadium golf.” Now, you can’t talk about course design of TPC Sawgrass without mentioning the infamous par-3, 17th hole. Dye had originally planned for there to be only a small pond beside the green, but so much sand was cleared in the process of construction that it turned the small pond into a lake surrounding the green. This turned what could’ve been an easy par 3 into one of the most daunting wedge shots on the tour. It’s such a difficult shot that every year, everyday players fish out upwards of 100,000 golf balls from the water on hole 17, and in 2005, Bobby Tway set the tour record, dunking 4 consecutive shots into the water and taking a 12 on the hole.

Though now the course is loved by the pros, when Sawgrass was first brought onto the tour, it was widely despised by many of the pros for its difficulty. Holes 16, 17, and 18 is considered to be one of the hardest closing stretches to a course, requiring whoever is leading Sunday to earn the victory as they seek The Players Championship Trophy and the secondlargest first-place prize of the season.

A Word from the PRO

Different Strings For Different Levels

This is usually the time of year when players are bringing their tennis racquets to the Pro Shop for a yearly racquet tune up before they hit the outdoor courts. I always ask what kind of string and tension the player wants and more often than not the answer will be: “whatever you think will be good for me”. I always appreciate the trust that is put in me when deciding how I can help to make this weapon as reliable and powerful as possible.

Tennis string choice should match a player’s skill level, swing speed, and performance needs, as strings significantly affect power, control, comfort, and spin.

Newer players benefit most from synthetic gut or multifilament strings, which provide easy power, comfort, and forgiveness while helping prevent arm injuries. These softer strings make it easier to generate depth and maintain consistency as fundamentals develop.

Intermediate players often seek a balance between power and control, so many transition to hybrid string setups, combining polyester strings for control and spin with multifilament or synthetic gut for comfort. This allows developing players to swing faster while maintaining feel and arm protection. Advanced and competitive players typically use polyester or co-polyester strings, as their faster swing speeds require greater control, durability, and spin potential. Polyester strings allow aggressive hitting without sacrificing precision but are stiffer and should be used at lower tensions to protect the arm. Overall, softer and more powerful strings suit lowerlevel players, while firmer, control-oriented strings match higher-level players with faster swings and more refined technique.

See you on the court,
