April has a way of reminding us what makes Tampa Yacht & Country Club so special, and for my family, it always begins with one of our favorite traditions of the year: Easter at the Club.
If you want to understand TYCC, come to brunch on Easter or Mother’s Day. At one table, you’ll see two, three, even four generations of families gathered together, celebrating traditions carried forward over decades.
But if you really want to understand the Club, look one table over. You’ll see a family who moved to Tampa just a few years ago, were welcomed by a member, and now sit comfortably as if they, too, have been part of this community for generations.
That is Tampa Yacht & Country Club.
Our membership is our greatest asset— always has been, always will be. It is what makes this place not just a club, but a community, and it is what we are privileged to steward for the future.
With that in mind, I am pleased to share that the Board has appointed Dustin Dunn as the Club’s next General Manager / Chief Operating Officer.
Dustin brings a thoughtful, team-oriented leadership style, along with meaningful experience in club operations, capital projects, and talent development. Throughout the process, he distinguished himself not only through his professional capabilities, but also through his alignment with TYCC’s culture: family-focused, servicedriven, grounded in tradition, and open to thoughtful progress.
We will be intentional in how we introduce Dustin to the membership, with a series of gatherings and opportunities for connection in the weeks ahead. Please join me in welcoming Dustin and his wife, Alisa, to the TYCC community.
While people are the heart and soul of TYCC, we remain committed to thoughtfully investing in our Club’s facilities and amenities to support and enhance the member experience.

As you know, the Long-Range Planning Committee has been actively evaluating opportunities across the Club, including potential enhancements to our Fitness & Wellness and Racquets facilities, areas that have become increasingly central to the daily life of our membership.
While these represent our most immediate areas of focus, this work is part of a broader evaluation of the Club’s amenities and overall member experience. That includes children’s programming and playground enhancements, opportunities within the Quarterdeck and Marina, ongoing needs at the equestrian center, and other areas that contribute to the fabric of TYCC.
Recent member discussions have provided valuable perspective, helping to shape a clear path forward that reflects both nearterm priorities and long-term stewardship. We look forward to continuing that dialogue through upcoming Town Hall sessions and broader member engagement, ensuring these efforts align with the standard of excellence our members expect.
With April upon us, the Club comes alive with the unmistakable energy of spring. The pool, the Pavilion, and the Telltale quickly become the heartbeat of the Club, filled with families, friends, and the rhythm of longer days.
The Pavilion and Telltale are now in full swing, opening at 4:00 p.m. on weekdays and 11:00 a.m. on weekends, perfect for afternoons that turn into evenings.

appreciate members’ flexibility with lap swimming during those times.
We look forward to cheering on our swimmers at two home meets this month:
I’m pleased to see the return of Family Night Poolside each Friday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., a tradition that captures the spirit of the Club at its best.
We also look forward to Burger Night each Wednesday, as well as a special Ferrari Wine Dinner on April 9.
Our Easter celebrations begin on Good Friday, with the Pavilion and Telltale opening early at 11:00 a.m.
On Saturday, the Children’s Easter Party returns from 9:00 a.m. to noon, with the Egg Hunt beginning promptly at 10:15 a.m. It remains one of the Club’s most cherished traditions.
On Easter Sunday, we will host our traditional Easter Buffet with seatings at 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.
• Time Trials — Tuesday, April 14
• vs. Carrollwood Country Club — Tuesday, April 28
Both begin at 5:00 p.m., with valet service available.
TYCC is a special place, not because of any one event or amenity, but because of the people who bring it to life every day.
Thank you for your continued engagement, your stewardship, and your commitment to this Club.
Ashlie and I look forward to seeing you and your families at the Club in the weeks ahead.
With appreciation,
PJ Gardner

March Madness - On Friday, March 13, two vessels in our Marina caught fire. Despite the efforts of our staff and first responders the fire quickly grew. Ultimately, firefighters extinguished the flames, but regrettably not before both vessels were severely damaged.
By Monday afternoon both vessels had been floated and removed from the Marina, the fuel pumps and system were inspected and placed back in service, and the Club’s marine engineer, contractor, environmental consultant, and the dock manufacturer had inspected the site to develop remediation and replacement options. Club staff and volunteers also are debriefing the events of March 13 to evaluate possible refinements to current procedures and protocols.
Ultimately, we are thankful there were no injuries and that fire damage was not more widespread. We owe a debt of gratitude to Andreas, Kit, Cameron, the Marina Team, and the first responders. THANK YOU!

Dredging - Dredging operations continue. This is our first Marina-wide dredging since 2016, and it will return our Marina nearly to 2016 depths. All reasonable efforts are being employed to minimize disruptions and nuisances. We appreciate your continued patience.
Save the Dates - The Marina’s Boondoggle Inshore Fishing Tournament and our Open Boat Party will be here before we know it. Please see the next page for dates and details.
Observation Deck - We fortified our Observation Deck to accommodate larger vessels. Improvements included an updated structural analysis, expanded fendering systems, and installation of additional cleats. The improvements permit us to accomodate much larger vessels, including recently hosting YMKG’s Jose Gasparilla II on her Outbound Voyage. We anticipate many more visits.

Looking Good - Check out our Marina staff’s upgraded uniforms. Our staff looks sharper and more professional than ever before! More upgrades are on the way.
Rip Rap - We have not forgotten rip rap on the “beach.” The permitting process we initially were told was not necessary is proceeding exceedingly slowly. On March 24 we received the County EPC’s Authorization to proceed. Now, back to the City. We will keep you posted. Placement of rip rap will help armor our Club against future storms.
Marina Long Range Planning Committee – The LRP committee continues evaluating a wide variety of upgrades and improvements to our Marina and facilities.
Oyster Removal – In April we will remove oysters from the floating docks and all marina pilings. This is a critical maintenance task.
Marina Upgrades – We are evaluating several security software services, dock tuning, lumber rock replacement, fuel tank electronics upgrade, and J70 sailboats.

As we kick off a new sailing season, we’re excited to share that our Adult Sailing Program is continuing to build momentum and getting more sailors on the water. Our boats have new sails, new covers and fully checked gear. Now is a great time to get involved and enjoy sailing at the club. What we need now is you.
A group of us sail for fun on Sunday afternoons and you’re welcome to join us - no experience needed. Some of us sail in the Wednesday evening races run by Cameron Smith, our Waterfront Director.
But sailing at TYCC isn’t limited to the regular events. Qualified skippers may take the Flying Scots out any time during the day from Tuesday- Sunday. It’s a wonderful opportunity to sail with family and friends - without the hassle of storage or maintenance. Just show up, raise the sails, and go!
We especially encourage former sailors to rediscover how great it feels to be back on the water. Parents and grandparents are welcome to bring children, grandchildren, and friends along to share the joy of sailing. And if you’re new to the sport—or just a bit rusty—Cameron and his staff offer sailing lessons to help you build confidence.
If you’re interested in learning more, or know someone who might be, please reach out to Sailing@ TampaYacht.com.
Let’s make this a fantastic sailing season together.
-Harry de Waart
“Harry brings more than 75 years of worldwide sailing experience to his writing. Over the decades he has sailed in a wide variety of settings, from windsurfing off the coast of Saudi Arabia to making a transatlantic passage aboard a Dutch clipper ship. Today, he remains an active and enthusiastic sailor in the Flying Scot fleet.”
Mark Straley

The Mainsheet Mamas continue to practice their craft and participate in Inter-Club regattas. Recently, we traveled to Sarasota to compete in the FWSA Spring Break Regatta. There were approximately 70 boats competing in three classes. The wind conditions were spicy! The Mainsheet Mamas represented TYCC in the 420 class where they came in 4th place overall after three races. It has been 10 years since Tiffany and Jennifer first hopped in this boat in Sarasota. This regatta is always a blast!
If you’d like more information, please contact our club Captain, Jennifer Holmberg @813-205-4111.

Combining massage and stretching improves flexibility, speeds up muscle recovery, and reduces chronic pain or stiffness by increasing blood flow, breaking down adhesions, and enhancing joint mobility. Together, they reduce injury risk, alleviate stress, and improve posture, allowing for deeper, more effective muscle relaxation and long-lasting physical benefits.
Enhanced Muscle Recovery: Massage boosts circulation, delivering oxygen/nutrients to fatigued muscles while removing waste, while stretching aids in clearing lactic acid.
Increased Flexibility and Range of Motion:
Stretching elongates muscle fibers warmed by massage, allowing joints to move more freely and improving overall mobility.
Injury Prevention: By keeping muscles pliable and releasing tight knots, this combination reduces the risk of strains, tears, and spasms.
Deep Tissue Relief: Massage works on deeper muscle layers to release tension that stretching alone might not reach.
Stress Reduction: Both techniques trigger the parasympathetic nervous system, lowering cortisol, reducing anxiety, and decreasing pain.
