A Paige From My Notebook...

It is hard to believe, but the end of summer is already upon us.

August always seems to arrive with a little bit of everything. Families are getting ready for backto-school season, college students are preparing for a new semester, adult learners are looking for ways to grow their skills, wedding planning is in full swing, and many families are thinking seriously about buying a home before the end of the year.

At Strictly Business, we love this time of year because it reminds us how connected our local businesses are to every season of life.

Back-to-school season is more than backpacks, supplies and first-day photos. It is a time when families rely on local retailers, healthcare providers, childcare professionals, tutors, restaurants, service businesses and community organizations to help make the transition smooth. It is also a great reminder of how much our local schools, teachers and families contribute to the strength of Lincoln and Omaha.

florists to photographers, caterers, salons, jewelers, boutiques, planners and travel professionals, the wedding industry is filled with local businesses that help couples and families prepare for some of life’s most meaningful moments.

And for many people, summer is also a time to think about buying a home. Whether someone is a first-time buyer, moving into a larger home, downsizing or relocating, the home-buying process brings together Realtors, lenders, title companies, insurance professionals, inspectors, builders, remodelers and many other trusted local experts.

“For more than three decades, we have helped businesses, nonprofits and professionals stay visible, build credibility and connect with the people they serve.”

August is also an important time for colleges, universities, trade schools and adult education programs. Whether someone is starting their first semester, returning to finish a degree, learning a new trade, earning a certification or investing in professional development, education continues to open doors. Lifelong learning strengthens our workforce, supports local employers and helps individuals create new opportunities for themselves and their families.

August is also a beautiful time to plan for your wedding. From venues and

That is what makes local business so important. Behind every major life event, every season and every community tradition, there are local businesses working hard to serve people well.

Strictly Business is proud to help tell those stories.

Through print, online publishing, feature stories, press releases, client spotlights and digital backlinks, we help our clients remain top-of-mind in the communities they care about most.

As we move from summer into fall, I encourage you to keep supporting local businesses. Shop local. Hire local. Refer local. Celebrate local. And when you have a story to share, make sure people hear it.

Thank you to our advertisers, readers and community partners for continuing to trust Strictly Business. We are honored to promote the people and organizations that make Lincoln and Omaha such strong places to live, work and grow.

Here’s to a strong finish to summer and an exciting start to fall.

Lincoln Airport Enters New Era of Growth and Investment

The Lincoln Airport Authority (LNK) is experiencing one of the most transformative periods in its history, driven by expanded air service, major infrastructure investments and strategic development initiatives that are strengthening Lincoln’s position as a regional transportation and economic hub.

Over the past year, LNK has experienced unprecedented growth in commercial air service. United Airlines continues to demonstrate its long-term commitment to Lincoln by operating up to ten daily flights to its Denver and Chicago hubs, providing reliable connections to destinations around the world. Building on that strong foundation, American Airlines launched new service to Dallas/Fort Worth and Chicago O’Hare in June 2026 and will be adding season service to Phoenix this winter. Breeze Airways expanded its presence with nonstop flights to Orlando and Las Vegas, including convenient BreezeThru service to Orange County, California. Together, these new routes have increased the number of available airline seats at Lincoln Airport by more than 70 percent compared to just one year ago. LNK is now providing more travel options than ever for residents, businesses and visitors.

The airport’s growth extends far beyond commercial air service. In January, construction began on the reconstruction of Runway 18/36, one of the largest infrastructure investments in Lincoln Airport’s history. The multi-year project will modernize the airport’s 12,901-foot runway, one of the longest runways in the United States which serves commercial airlines, military operations, general aviation users and emergency response missions. The project represents a long-term investment in the region’s transportation network and economic future. At the same time, the Airport Authority is focused on planning for future development opportunities across its campus. Work is underway on a comprehensive master plan for the airport’s industrial park, creating a roadmap for future business growth, private investment and job creation. The plan will position the airport to attract both aviation and industrial related businesses and support economic development throughout the region.

General aviation is a critical part of LNK’s operations, and the airport is investing accordingly. Planned hangar development and facility improvements will accommodate growing demand from private aircraft owners, corporate flight departments and aviation businesses while positioning the airport for future growth.

Supporting these initiatives is a strong and experienced leadership team. Earlier this year, the Lincoln Airport Authority welcomed Anthony Dudas as Executive Director and Michael Griffin as Director of Operations. Together, they bring more than 40 years of combined aviation and airport management experience to Lincoln. Their expertise spans airport operations, infrastructure development, strategic planning, regulatory compliance and organizational

leadership.

“The momentum we are seeing today is the result of years of collaboration, planning, and investment,” said Anthony Dudas, Executive Director of the Lincoln Airport. “From new airline service and infrastructure improvements to future development opportunities, we are building an airport that serves the needs of our community and southeast Nebraska while positioning Lincoln for continued success for decades to come.”

With an annual economic impact exceeding $1 billion and support for more than 8,300 jobs throughout the region, Lincoln Airport continues to serve as a vital economic driver for Nebraska. As the airport grows, its commitment remains the same: connecting the community to new opportunities while supporting business development, economic growth and a world-class travel experience. Lincoln Coin & Bullion Receives

2026 NCBA Outstanding Service Award

Kubert Appraisal Group, one of the region’s largest and most trusted commercial real estate appraisal firms, today announced it has officially adopted the trade name OmegaVal (Omega Valuation Group). The rebranding marks a significant milestone in the company’s evolution from a solo practice into a powerhouse team of valuation experts.

Founded in 2018 as a single-appraiser operation working out of a basement, the firm has experienced exponential growth over the last eight years. Today, OmegaVal boasts a robust, integrated team of appraisers, analysts, and dedicated support staff capable of navigating the most complex market landscapes.

“This name change represents an important evolution of our company,” said owner, Thomas Kubert. “By 2026, the scope of our company had become much larger than any one person. OmegaVal is a true group effort, and our new name reflects the dynamic, teamdriven firm we have built to better serve our clients.”

Same Core Team, Expanded Capabilities

While the name on the door has changed, the firm’s core mission remains exactly the same. Clients will continue to receive the professional, reliable valuation products they depend on when making critical financial decisions.

For OmegaVal’s clients, the transition will be seamless:

• No Operational Changes: Clients will work with the same trusted team members and advisors.

• Uncompromised Quality: The firm remains dedicated to providing top-tier, quality analysis in complex commercial markets.

• Enhanced Scope: The new brand better encapsulates the firm’s scaled capacity to handle large-scale and intricate valuation assignments.

“The most important message we want to send to our industry partners is that nothing changes for our clients,” the firm emphasized. “We are the same company, with the same team members, providing the same high-quality appraisal services—just with a new name that matches the scale of our collective expertise.”

The transition to OmegaVal is effective immediately. The firm’s digital presence, including its website and communications, will transition to the new branding over the coming weeks.

GordenLaw Enhances Strategy Sessions with Customized Written Action Plans for Family Law Clients

GordenLaw, a Lincolnbased family law firm, has enhanced its Strategy Session process by providing clients with customized written action plans following each consultation.

The firm’s Strategy Sessions are designed to help individuals and families understand their options before making important decisions involving divorce, custody, child support, parenting plans, alimony, paternity, modifications, and other family law matters. In addition to meeting directly with an attorney to discuss their circumstances, clients receive written recommendations tailored to their unique situation. These written action plans identify key issues, strategic considerations, potential risks, and recommended next steps, providing clients with a clear roadmap they can review and implement long after the meeting concludes.

“Many people leave legal consultations with a jumble of notes but still uncertain about their future,” said founder and attorney Vanessa J. Gorden. “We wanted to create a process that provides clarity, direction, and practical guidance. Our written recommendations help clients understand not only their legal options, but also the reasoning behind them.”

Gorden explained that establishing goals, priorities, and potential paths forward at the beginning of a case often helps clients make more informed decisions throughout the process. A clear strategy from the outset can reduce uncertainty, improve efficiency, and help ensure that legal services remain aligned with each client’s objectives. For more information or to schedule a Strategy Session, visit GordenLaw.com or call (402) 817-1450.

HazToGo Business Waste Collection Event Announced for August 13th

The next event will be Thursday, August 13. You must have an appointment to participate in this event.

Common types of businesses, such as general contractors, medical offices, dental offices, print shops, auto shops, school systems, non-profits, painters, churches, childcare centers, and home occupations often benefit from these events.

Examples of wastes that are accepted include: Aerosols, corrosives, pesticides, flammable solids or liquids, adhesives, asbestos, mercury, poisons, paint, solvents, cylinders, oxidizers, photo fluids, PCB ballasts and mineral spirits. Summer Safety Initiative Highlights Importance of CPR & First Aid Training

As summer brings increased outdoor activity, New View Trainings SAFE FAMILY INITIATIVE is urging community members to prioritize CPR and First Aid education to help prevent and respond to seasonal injuries.

Emergency departments see a significant rise in incidents during the summer months, with up to 25% of annual ER visits occurring during this time and more than 40% of children’s injury-related visits happening between May and August. Outdoor recreation, water activities and travel all contribute to this seasonal spike.

Water safety remains a critical concern. Each year, the U.S. experiences over 4,000 unintentional drowning deaths, and drowning is the leading cause of death for children ages 1-4. Most incidents occur in residential settings such as home or backyard pools.

Medical emergencies also frequently happen at home. More than 70% of cardiac arrests occur in residential settings, and about 90% of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest victims do not survive without immediate help. However, performing CPR right away can double or triple a person’s chance of survival, making bystander action critical.

Despite widespread awareness, a gap remains between knowledge and action...only a fraction of people feel confident responding in an emergency.

The SAFE FAMILY INITIATIVE through New View Training aims to close that gap by equipping individuals, families and businesses with hands-on training in CPR and First Aid. Participants learn how to respond to cardiac arrest, water emergencies and common summer injuries. Skills that can save lives in the critical minutes before professional responders arrive.

For more information or to register, visit: newviewtraining.com and search for FAMILY CPR.

Beyond Vision LNK Advocates for Eye Health Education in Nebraska Schools

Beyond Vision LNK – NeuroVision of Nebraska is encouraging schools, parents and community leaders to recognize the important role vision plays in student success by increasing eye health education throughout Nebraska’s K–12 schools.

Dr. Carla Ericksen, owner of Beyond Vision LNK, recently published an educational article highlighting the need for greater awareness of functional vision problems that often go undetected during standard school vision screenings. While many students pass a basic vision screening, conditions such as binocular vision dysfunction and other visual skills disorders can still interfere with reading, learning, attention and overall classroom performance.

Through its ongoing community education efforts, Beyond Vision LNK hopes to help families better understand the difference between a vision screening and a comprehensive eye examination, allowing children with hidden vision challenges to be identified earlier and connected with appropriate care.

“Our mission has always been to help patients improve their quality of life through better vision,” said Dr. Carla Ericksen. “By increasing eye health education, we can empower parents and educators to recognize potential vision-related barriers to learning and ensure children receive the care they need to reach their full potential.”

Beyond Vision LNK – NeuroVision of Nebraska specializes in comprehensive eye care, NeuroVision evaluations, binocular vision dysfunction (BVD), pediatric vision care, concussion-related vision rehabilitation, and vision therapy.

LincolnPartnershipforEconomicDevelopment and Select Greater Omaha Launch AgWorks Corridor

The Lincoln Partnership for Economic Development (LPED) and Select Greater Omaha, are excited to announce the formation of the AgWorks Corridor to better position the region as a leader in value-added agriculture across the Midwest.

AgWorks Corridor was created to align regional strengths to advance shared priorities and opportunities. With Lincoln and Omaha serving as hubs, this joint initiative and regional effort will support companies from the start-up stage through full-scale commercialization.

“Agriculture has always been one of our region’s greatest competitive advantages, and the AgWorks Corridor builds on that foundation in a new way,” says Heath Mello, President & CEO of the Greater Omaha Chamber. “This partnership brings together the assets of Greater Omaha and Greater Lincoln to create one of the Midwest’s most compelling destinations for value-added agriculture.”

As agriculture drives 1-in-4 jobs across the region, the depth of area workforce gives companies access to a more connected, resilient and scalable operating environment. Within the corridor, local universities, community college and industry aligned programs deliver a strong pipeline of talent, research and innovation, helping companies access skilled workers, technical expertise and commercialization resources needed for long term growth.

NE Chamber Plans ‘Road Show’ Visits to Nebraska Communities

The Nebraska Chamber of Commerce & Industry is scheduling a series of visits across Nebraska beginning this month and continuing through the fall.

Hosted by local Chambers of Commerce and economic development organizations, the Road Show events are designed as community visits to hear directly from local Chamber members, community leaders and others interested in local and regional business development topics.

NE Chamber President & CEO Joseph Young and Executive Vice President of Legislation & Policy Hunter Traynor will lead the conversations along with NE Chamber staff and local officials.

“When we visit our members across the state, we gain insight on issues that are unique to their community or region,” said Young. “This input is vital to understanding local needs and advancing policies to make Nebraska the best state in the country to do business.”

Young begins his role this week as president and chief executive for the 114-year-old NE Chamber. A lifelong Nebraskan who recently returned to the state from Florida, he said the Road Show visits will be a chance to reconnect with his home state and learn about recent business and community development in cities across Nebraska.

Matt Williams, interim president and board member of the NE Chamber, kicked off the 2026 Road Show in his hometown of Gothenburg in mid June and the Road Show will end in early October.

The dates and communities that have been scheduled can be found at nechamber.com/road-shows and for more information please contact kbartling@nechamber.com.

AuthenticRunway18/36KeepsakesPreserve aLegacyWhileSupportingFutureAirportArt

As reconstruction of Lincoln Airport’s historic Runway 18/36 continues, community members have a unique opportunity to preserve a tangible piece of local aviation history.

Through a partnership with a local organization, authentic sections of concrete removed from Runway 18/36 have been transformed into commemorative keepsakes, each mounted on a handcrafted wood base with a custom plaque.

Originally constructed in the early 1950s, Runway 18/36 has served Lincoln for more than 70 years. Stretching 12,901 feet, it is one of the longest commercial service runways in the Midwest and has supported military operations, commercial air service, business aviation, emergency response and countless flights connecting Lincoln to destinations around the world.

“Runway 18/36 has connected generations of travelers, supported our military partners and played an important role in Lincoln’s growth,” said Chad Lay, Director of Planning and Development at the Lincoln Airport. “While we’re building for the future, it’s equally important to preserve and celebrate where we’ve been.”

The Lincoln Airport Authority is not selling the keepsakes. Instead, the Airport partnered with a local organization to make the commemorative pieces available to the public. A portion of every purchase will be donated back to the Lincoln Airport Authority to support a future aviation-themed public art exhibit at the airport. Quantities are limited and available only while supplies last. Community members interested in reserving one can pre-order at: remembering-rwy-1836.square.site.

Join the Mayor’s Local Food Challenge, July Through October

The City of Lincoln reminds food producers, restaurants and others to join the Mayor’s Local Food Challenge, a program that encourages community organizations to source food from local producers.

The challenge, which runs July 1 through October 31, celebrates businesses, schools, restaurants and others that meet food sourcing commitment levels. Organizations are encouraged to find out more and register at lincoln.ne.gov/foodchallenge.

In the program’s first year in 2025, 21 organizations placed 289 orders with 38 regional farmers and suppliers, spending $595,009 on local food products. Participants in the program included Hudl, Duncan Aviation, Lincoln Public Schools, Bryan Health, Open Harvest Co-op Grocery, Hub Cafe, Belmont Community Center, and Matt Talbot Kitchen & Outreach.

The City works with Lone Tree Foods of Lincoln and Robinette Farms of Martell to connect challenge participants with high-quality food produced within a 250-mile radius of Lincoln. Participants choose program options that suit their needs and earn recognition based on the number of local food orders placed during the 18-week program. Organizations placing two orders or more receive a Mayor’s Local Food Challenge window cling to indicate their participation.

At the end of the challenge, participants are recognized and celebrated for their commitment to sourcing local food. The commitment levels are based on the number of local food orders placed during the 18-week program:

• Platinum – 18 orders

• Gold – 17 to 13 orders

• Silver – 12 to 7 orders

• Bronze – 6 to 2 orders

Methods organizations can participate in the challenge include:

• Workplace Wellness and Food Programming: Employees can pick up local food subscription boxes at their workplaces.

• Wholesale to Employee Cafeteria/Special Events: Accounts can be created to begin regular delivery of local food to cafeterias or special events.

• Wholesale to Restaurants: Those in the food service industry may shop online or receive emails, texts, or calls from sales teams.

• Farm to School: Schools may use resources like the Harvest of the Month curriculum or highlight a local producer each month to incorporate local food into school meals.

• Custom: Collaborative producer networks can build a custom solution tailored to an institution’s needs and goals.

Kim Morrow, Chief Sustainability Officer, said Lincolnites spend $1.1 billion each year on food sourced from outside its region, according to the Lincoln Metro, Nebraska Local Farm and Food Economy report. Increased access to fresh, nutritious food improves public health, leading to healthier communities, she said.

“If every Lincoln metro resident spent $5 a week on local food, or had spent for them, it would generate $91 million annually for regional farms,” Morrow said. “Local food is fresher, tastier, and helps businesses and institutions connect with regional farmers. Buying local keeps money in our community, creates jobs and boosts the local economy. It also reduces transportation emissions while promoting sustainable agriculture.”

Morrow added that though the Mayor’s Local Food Challenge is meant to recognize organizations, individuals still have an important role to play. She encouraged community members to participate in the following ways:

• Ask your workplace or favorite restaurant or coffeeshop to participate in the challenge.

• Celebrate businesses participating in the challenge by supporting them financially or giving them words of encouragement. The challenge’s window cling displayed at participating businesses makes it easy to identify who is involved.

Is Dental Insurance Worth It?

There are a variety of methods to access and pay for dental care. Coverage can be included as part of an employer’s benefit package, through an individual dental policy, accessed through a discount plan offered directly from the provider or just by paying out-of-pocket for everything. Statistics show that a person is more likely to have regular checkups for their teeth if they have insurance that helps cover the cost. People are less likely to go if they are concerned about having a sizable bill to pay.

When evaluating a dental plan, find out the value of the benefits you will receive in order to compare them to the premium you will pay. For dental plans, you should expect to pay a premium that covers the value of preventive care plus a stated coverage benefit for other services that you might need. For example, if your dentist charges $250 for a cleaning and dental exam and you budget for two cleanings annually, the $500 expense would be covered if your monthly premium is roughly $41.50/month. If you have any further dental work done during the year, plans typically cover a set percentage of the charge up to a maximum amount. These extra charges and discounts increase the value of your plan. It is also important to remember there may be waiting periods before some of the services beyond preventative care are covered.

There are many dental plans and each company uses a network of dentists who have agreed to accept payment from these carriers. Most plans will base their coverage on the “usual and customary” rates for dental procedures. For example, if your plan states it will pay 50% of the charge for a filling or simple extraction and your dentist charges $400 for the service, there may be a discrepancy between the billed amount of $400 and the “usual and customary” rate the insurance company will cover. If the “usual and customary” charge is only $200, the plan would likely only pay $100 (50%) of your expense and the remaining balance above the $200 would be your responsibility.

If you need help sorting through your dental insurance options, the licensed agents at On Point Health Insurance Agency offer help advising and enrolling in dental plans for individuals, families and seniors. They are your trusted and local resource for health insurance advice. Visit insuranceonpoint.com or call (402) 625-6578 to contact us.

Reduced cost, hassle, and paper work - what’s not to like?

STAR CITY SIX AUSTIN

Austin Brown is the Owner and Principal Agent at AAA Brown & Family Insurance, and Co-Owner of Timberworks Fencing.

Tell us a little about your business. - Brown & Family Insurance is a AAA captive insurance company specializing in home, auto and life insurance as well as being a service provider for our membership. AAA is known worldwide for their roadside assistance but has continued to develop as a strong insurer in the state of Nebraska.

How did you get started in the business? - In the past few years, I had been evaluating a few different business opportunities, and that ultimately lead me to the insurance world. After a career in accounting and working with commercial insurance, I am excited to be working face to face with clients and making sure they’re well taken care of.

What has been your most important achievement professionally?

- While I would love to say my MBA, starting two businesses in the last year has come with unique challenges that have allowed me to grow as both a leader and an entrepreneur. Now that we are on the other side of opening, surrounding myself with good teammates was the most important item I tackled in the last 18 months.

Tell us a little about your family. - My wife, Lexus, and I met 14 years ago while still in high school and have been together ever since. We have been blessed with 3 kids ages 4, 2, and 1. Getting to be their dad has been life’s greatest gift!

What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? - One of the biggest turning points in my life was accepting a job offer from a successful entrepreneur who became an influential mentor. Being involved in his business shaped the way I think about leadership, service and entrepreneurship. More importantly, it reinforced the value of putting people first. Watching how he invested in those around him had a lasting impact on me and is a major reason I run my businesses the way I do today. It’s important to me to take care of the people around me and give them every opportunity to succeed, because when people thrive, businesses thrive.

What is your favorite quote or the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? - The best piece of advice I’ve ever received goes back to youth baseball. My dad, who was also my coach for nearly ten years, always told me, “You can only control your attitude and effort.” That lesson has stayed with me throughout my life and career. I try to approach each day as if it could be the day that changes the rest of my life. A positive attitude and unrelenting effort are two things completely within our control, and I’ve found they’ll take you farther than just about any other trait.

What is your favorite movie? - The two movies that if I am scrolling and see them they always get chosen have to be Step Brothers and Draft Day.

What is your favorite local Lincoln restaurant? - My wife and I are huge fans of Piedmont Bistro and has been our favorite date night venue for a few years.

If our readers would like to contact you, how should they do so? - AAA Brown & Family can be found online at brownfamilyinsurance. net, (531) 500-0959, or by reaching out to me directly at arbrown@ acg.aaa.com.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally?

- ALLO Business recently integrated a separate company that brought Managed Services, Compliance and Cybersecurity solutions into our product portfolio. Gearing up the rest of the business to Sell, Provision, Install and Support these complex solutions for our customers has been a very rewarding challenge.

Tell us a little about your family. - My wife Sheila and I have been married for 27 years (I think), and we have a 21 year old son Sam, and a 14 year old son Caleb!

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? - Not work! My son Sam and I both have old cars, and we enjoy working on those. My son Caleb is a fan of all swimming pools, so we spend a lot of time at the YMCA at the pool!

If you could choose only one descriptive word to be remembered as, what would it be? - Memorable. Whether you enjoyed our time together, or find me annoying, I just hope you remember our interactions.

If you had a theme song, what would it be? - The theme song from the best 80’s sitcom “The Facts of Life”. I always loved Tootie’s hair!

If you could have a super power, what would it be? - The ability to make people relax. We get so caught up in the day to day stresses and disagreements, it’s good to just relax and chat sometimes.

If you could choose any other profession to be successful in, what would it be? - I’d be an astronaut because that means I’d be super smart! Not smart like wearing a diaper to drive all the way across the country, but smart like landing on the moon!

What is your favorite movie? - I think this would be No Country for Old Men. I really like all the main characters, and their journeys. Even Woody Harrelson who’s character has a bit too much ego in that movie.

If you could have dinner with one famous person from the past or present, who would it be? - Is my wife considered famous? Other than to me?!? Ok, I guess not. Other than my wife, I’d probably go with Benjamin Franklin, so we can talk about where we’ve gone as a country and what we’ve achieved. He seems like a thoughtful person who would be fun to talk to.

STAR CITY SIX JANESSA

Janessa Thompson SUMNER PLACE

Janessa Thompson is the Admissions and Public Relations Coordinator at Sumner Place.

What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? - One of the biggest turning points in life so far professionally has been shifting my career focus and ambition. Previously, once out of college, I thought I wanted to go into the counseling or mental health workforce and eventually achieve higher education for this. After real world experiences and internships, working alongside and shadowing mental health professionals, I decided that this profession would not be a good fit for me in the long run. Finding a profession where I can connect with families/clients, see the impact overtime has a great work life balance and is what I wanted. So far, my position at Sumner Place has been just that! Seeing the positive impact our care facility has given me so much joy, but being more on the business side of it has been a great change from previous positions.

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? - On my days off, I love to focus on home renovation projects, interior design and getting my creative juices flowing with activities such as scrapbooking and painting! Anytime I can also do these things outside is a win.

What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? - Professionally I’ve been told I am quite bubbly and outgoing although in my personal life, I’d say I am more of an introvert; you’ll rarely catch me striking up a conversation with a stranger.

What is your favorite quote or the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? - The best piece of advice I’ve learned has been to live every day as your last and to treat everyone as the most important person!

If you could choose any other profession to be successful in, what would it be? - I love to think that people can be great at many things in life, especially what we do professionally. I am excited to have an open mind to all opportunities that may arise in the future, and at this time couldn’t fathom what I may be doing professionally in 10 years. Hopefully, whatever it is provides me with great pride and growth while also making an impact to those on a personal level!

Spencer Pacheco AUTOMOTIVE SOLUTIONS

Spencer Pacheco is the graphic designer at Automotive Solutions.

Tell us a little about your business.

- Automotive Solutions is an automotive restyling and repair/ performance shop specializing in a wide range of products and vehicles. With in-house large scale printing, we provide partial & full vehicle wraps as well PPF, ceramic coating, banners, decals, window advertising and more! I handle the designs and work with our customers to provide the best visual solutions based on the customer’s business or personal preferences. We’ve been able to wrap quite a variety of vehicles – ranging from sports cars to work trucks, boats, off-road/racing vehicles, locker rooms, buses, and signage.

How did you get started in the business? - I’ve always made art and have been design oriented, with my graphic design experience starting in high school, making logos and promotional material for friends and small businesses. With a life-long passion for cars, this was a great opportunity and combination of my interests at a new, local, family-run business. I started as the designer shortly after Automotive Solutions started in 2022, here in the capitol city.

What has been your most important achievement professionally?

- My mural here in downtown Lincoln. It was an honor to create one of the largest pieces of art in the city at such a respected gallery. It gives me pride to contribute artistically to the city that I was born and raised in.

What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? - After graduating with a graphic design degree from UNL, I had the opportunity to create a street art mural in downtown Lincoln at Kiechel Fine Art. After a handful of sessions with a scissor lift, as well as a telescopic buck lift, I was able to cover most of the visible 4 stories. The vast majority of the mural was improvised, using Montana Black Series spray paint.

Who inspires you? - Mainly my family, who’ve always supported me and shown me how to be a loving, hard working, honest person. My other inspirations come from artists throughout time that push the limits of art or concepts that challenge the way the eye and mind view something.

What is your favorite quote or the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? - “Get some Love in your life, whether that be another person or just loving yourself. Love is Good, Spread Love!” – Mac Miller.

If you could choose only one descriptive word to be remembered as, what would it be? – Genuine.

What is your greatest talent that you don’t utilize in your daily work life? - My greatest non-utilized talent would be video and media editing. Due to the amount of time involved, I haven’t been able to dive as deep as I would like into that sphere of the digital world.

Which talent would you most like to have? - I would most like to have the talent of wingsuit skydiving.

If you could choose any other profession to be successful in, what would it be? - If I could choose any other career, it would be a traveling artist. From canvas paintings to murals, it would be an amazing way to see the world and expand my artistic abilities/vision.

What is your favorite book or the last good book you read? - My favorite book is Brave New World by Aldous Huxley.

What is your favorite local Lincoln restaurant? - My favorite Lincoln restaurant would be MoMo Pizzeria & Ristorante.

If you could have dinner with one famous person from the past or present, who would it be? - Terence McKenna

STAR CITY SIX ERICA

Erica Taddiken-Nunn

HONEYBEE BRIDAL

Erica Taddiken-Nunn is the co-owner of HoneyBee Bridal.

Tell us a little about your business.HoneyBee Bridal is a bridal store built on the passion and dreams of two bridal consultants that wanted to change the industry. We strive to be the most inclusive store in Lincoln, catering to every bride, size and dream. The designers we choose are smaller businesses, usually women owned, and have flexible custom options as well as inclusive sizing. When we research designers, we made sure that they not only carried a great range of sizes, but could also accommodate different and more subtle customizations because we know every dress isn’t going to be every person’s perfect outfit. We also wanted to get creative color options in-store so any option that a bride could think of would be available. HoneyBee Bridal also recently acquired a tuxedo partner, so we can truly help every kind of bride looking for their perfect wedding day look!

How did you get started in the business? - I started out as a tuxedo consultant while going to UNL for my business degree. I was later promoted to assistant manager and it was a dual store so I was able to learn both tuxedo and bridal rentals. I quickly fell in love with the bridal side as well and that is where I met my business partner. We noticed that there was not a lot of inclusivity in bridal sizing, or availability for non-traditional brides, and we wanted to change that.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? - I think trying to make a name for ourselves when most people have a certain assumptions in regards to the bridal industry. There are expectations that people can have about the look and feel of bridal salons. We focus on the connections with people and we like to have fun in our appointments. Our shop is full of color and light and we reflect that in the way we treat every person.

What has been your most important achievement professionally?

- My pride and joy professionally is this store. It took years of perseverance and commitment while I was working one or sometimes two jobs. It is my happy place and I am grateful everyday that we were able to make our dream come to life and help anyone anyway we can.

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? - When I do slow down I like to find crafts that I started and never finished.

What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? - When I find the time, I really enjoy crocheting chunky blankets for my friends and their pets. I have made a little under 20, so not a professional, but I did make the one that we have in our store!

If you could have a super power, what would it be? – Teleportation. I am always running late.

What local nonprofit organization(s) are you passionate about or involved with, and are there any special reasons why? - Winslow’s Wardrobe is a great one. Max is really invested in what he does. He provides safe options for the local trans community to utilize.

What is your favorite movie? - Phantom of the Opera.

What is your favorite TV show? - I like my comfort shows because I know how they end, but I can still be surprised by each episode rewatch.

If you could have dinner with one famous person from the past or present, who would it be? - Audrey Hepurn. She was a fashion icon and a philanthropist later in life.

If our readers would like to contact you, how should they do so?

American Heart Association Urges Extra Precautions as Temperatures Climb Nationwide

As summer heat intensifies across the U.S., the American Heart Association is warning that soaring temperatures don’t just make people uncomfortable — they can put serious strain on the heart and increase the risk of life-threatening complications.

“Heat forces the heart to work harder,” said Chris Shives, Executive Director, American Heart Association – Nebraska. “When your body is trying to cool down, your heart rate increases and your blood vessels expand. For people with heart disease, and even those who are otherwise healthy, that added strain can become dangerous very quickly.”

Why Heat is Hard on Your Heart

When temperatures climb, the body sweats to cool itself which can lead to fluid loss and dehydration. At the same time, the heart must pump more blood to regulate body temperature. Together, these changes can put significant stress on the cardiovascular system. Protect yourself in extreme heat by avoiding peak heat hours, dressing smart, staying hydrated and taking breaks.

Heat exhaustion symptoms may include headache, cool pale or clammy skin, fast but weak pulse, dizziness or fainting, weakness or muscle cramps, and nausea or vomiting.

Stay Active — But Stay Safe

Physical activity remains essential for heart health, even in the summer months. However, in the heat of summer it may be best to try shifting exercise to early morning or evening hours or move workouts indoors to air-conditioned spaces.

NebraskaDiaperBankAddsTwoNewLincoln Partners

Angels Among Us Increases Assistance and Expands Programming for a Growing Need

Two Lincoln organizations are joining Nebraska Diaper Bank’s partner network to help more families access diapers: Center for Immigrant and Refugee Advancement (CIRA) and Good Neighbor Community Center.

The expansion helps make diapers more accessible for Lincoln families experiencing diaper need, a basic need not covered by most public assistance programs. Through these partnerships, NDB will provide diapers to the organizations, allowing them to distribute this essential resource directly to families they already serve.

“We are grateful to welcome CIRA and Good Neighbor Community Center as partners in Lincoln,” said Tegan Reed, Executive Director of Nebraska Diaper Bank. “Partnerships like these help us reach families through trusted community organizations and ensure more babies have the diapers they need to stay clean, dry, and healthy.”

In Lincoln, an estimated 4,018 babies under age 3 are at risk of diaper need. These new partnerships support NDB’s goal to distribute 1,000,000 diapers annually by the end of 2027.

Cornhusker Council Launches Fall Scouting Recruitment Campaign

This August, the Cornhusker Council, Scouting America begins its annual fall recruitment campaign, inviting families across southeast Nebraska to discover how Scouting helps youth build character, confidence and lifelong skills.

Today’s children face increasing challenges, from excessive screen time and social media pressures to bullying and negative peer influences. Scouting provides a positive alternative where young people develop resilience, leadership, responsibility and strong values through outdoor adventures, service projects and hands-on learning.

“Parents want opportunities that help their children grow into confident, caring and capable adults,” said Jeffrey Johnson, Scout Executive/CEO of the Cornhusker Council. “Scouting gives youth the chance to make real friendships, learn practical life skills and experience adventures that prepare them for success in school, work and life.”

Recruitment events will be held throughout August and September at schools and community locations across the council’s service area. Families can meet local volunteers, learn about Cub Scouting and Scouts BSA, and find a unit that fits their family’s schedule.

The Cornhusker Council serves thousands of youth across southeast Nebraska through programs that develop character, citizenship, leadership and personal fitness while preparing the next generation of community leaders.

Angels Among Us provides financial and emotional support to pediatric cancer families living in or being treated in Nebraska. Life seems to stop when a child is diagnosed with cancer, but expenses don’t. To combat the rising cost of living and to keep pediatric cancer families financially afloat, AAU commits to alleviating this financial burden.

In July 2026, Angels Among Us increased their financial assistance levels to $700 and $1,400 per month for the duration of a child’s critical treatment plan. These payments are made monthly towards family’s critical bill payments such as rent, mortgage, utility bills or car payments. This increase in funding allows families more assistance and a greater focus on their sick child.

AAU is also committed to walking alongside families at every stage of their pediatric cancer journey. As capacity increases, the AAU team is expanding emotional support programming to meet families in their communities. There are 13 events scheduled for 2026 in Lincoln and Western Nebraska with plans to grow further in 2027.

Angels Among Us is a 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to provide financial and emotional support to any family whose child is battling pediatric cancer living in or being treated in the state of Nebraska. Since 2006, over 850 families have been supported with over $6.5 million in financial support. Breakthrough T1D is thrilled to bring the Breakthrough T1D Walk back to our local Lincoln community! Join over 1,500 people to help find cures for type 1 diabetes (T1D) at this year’s Breakthrough T1D Walk on Sunday, October 18 at Haymarket Park. The Walk aims to raise awareness for T1D and fund research to cure, treat and prevent T1D and its complications.

T1D is an autoimmune disease that is diagnosed in both children and adults and has nothing to do with diet or lifestyle. If you have T1D, your pancreas stops producing insulin—a hormone essential to turning food into energy. This means you must constantly monitor your blood-sugar level, inject or infuse insulin from a pump and carefully monitor your eating and activity every single day.

By joining Breakthrough T1D Walk, you become part of a community driving change for those affected by T1D. Together, our community can raise funds and awareness for type 1 diabetes, fueling progress toward life-changing cures. Register for the Walk today at walk. BreakthroughT1D.org/lincoln!

Questions about this event including sponsorship opportunities can be directed to Alex Reed, Development Manager, at (402) 853-0966 or at areed@BreakthroughT1D.org.

American Red Cross Declares Emergency Blood Shortage

The American Red Cross is urging eligible donors to give blood immediately to help overcome an emergency blood shortage. The blood supply dropped nearly 25% in June, creating a growing gap between available donations and hospital demand. The shortage comes during the height of summer trauma season, when hospitals often see an increase in serious injuries, accidents and medical emergencies that require lifesaving blood transfusions.

Red Cross officials report that blood distributions to hospitals are currently nearly 3,500 units higher per week than expected. At the same time, donations have declined due to busy summer schedules, temporary illnesses and the end of the school year, which resulted in approximately 38,000 fewer donations from young donors between April and June.

Unlike many medical supplies, blood cannot be manufactured or stockpiled. It must be continually replenished because it has a limited shelf life, with some products such as platelets lasting only a few days. A stable blood supply is essential for emergency rooms, cancer treatments, surgeries, maternity care and other critical medical services.

The Red Cross encourages all eligible donors to help rebuild the blood supply by scheduling an appointment today through the Blood Donor App, visiting RedCrossBlood.org or calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767).

TeamMates of Lincoln Looks to Build off Their Best Year Yet

As the 2025-26 school year closed, Lincoln TeamMates achieved their long-time goal of 365 new mentors trained in a year. Now, with the 2026-27 school year already on the horizon, the goal is even higher. TeamMates co-founder, Tom Osborne, has always had the goal of 2,030 matches in Lincoln by 2030. With that aspiration in mind, their goal for 2026-27 is 400 new mentors trained!

With their plan in place, the Lincoln TeamMates staff is confident they can achieve this goal. They look to increase their annual attended recruitment events from 116 to 125 and they look to lean on their current mentors. TeamMates mentors know what it takes to be successful, and there is nobody better to share their experiences than someone who knows what it takes and understands the benefits.

There are around 500 students eagerly waiting for a mentor, and there is no better time to apply than now. With the first day of school for LPS being August 12, you can begin your journey with your mentee right away.

For more information about TeamMates and becoming a mentor, you can contact the Lincoln recruitment team at (402) 436-1990, info@ lincolnteammates.org, or visit LincolnTeamMates.org.

Back to School Means New Opportunities to Reach Nebraska’s Children

As students across Nebraska sharpen their pencils, fill their backpacks and head back into the classroom, another school year brings with it an incredible opportunity to make a lasting impact. Child Evangelism Fellowship® (CEF®) of Nebraska is wrapping up another successful summer of ministry through its Good News Club® Summer Outreach programs and Christian Youth In Action® (CYIA™) teams.

Now, as schools reopen, the focus shifts to one of the most exciting ministries of the year—Good News Clubs.

Good News Clubs are after-school Bible clubs that meet in public schools, community centers, churches and other locations where children can gather in a safe and welcoming environment. Led by trained volunteers, these clubs teach biblical truths, character development, respect and the life-changing message of Jesus Christ.

Across Nebraska, there are hundreds of schools where children have little or no opportunity to attend a Good News Club. While the doors remain open in many communities, they simply do not have enough volunteers or partnering churches to meet the growing need.

Whether you are a retired educator, college student, parent, grandparent, pastor, or someone with a heart for children, there is a place for you to serve. Local churches also play a vital role by adopting schools, providing volunteer teams, praying for clubs and helping establish new ministries.

To learn more about starting a Good News Club, volunteering, or partnering with Child Evangelism Fellowship of Nebraska, visit cefofnebraska.org or contact their state office.

FRIENDS

Friends4Lunch – Pita & Naan

This month for our Friends4Lunch event, we have decided to shake things up. On Tuesday, August 11, at 11:30 a.m., we will be hosting this free networking event at Pita & Naan in downtown Lincoln. As always, the event is free to attend; all you have to pay for is the food you order!

Since the Project O Street enhancements have taken over parts of downtown, the businesses in that area have been feeling the strain of less foot traffic and business due to the construction.

While the construction and updates will serve all of the Lincoln community and the businesses down there, currently, these businesses are seeing a drop in customers due to this.

At Strictly Business, we are passionate and motivated to support local businesses and organizations and are excited to host our event at one of these amazing downtown restaurants. For the month of August, we are planning to have this month’s event at Pita & Naan, located at 1434 O St, Lincoln, Ne 68508.

This family run restaurant specializes in a fusion of Mediterranean and Eastern food with options like signature curry dishes, chicken shawarma, gyros, falafels and more! Opening in 2022, by the Attaie family, the family has been involved in the Lincoln food industry for over 32 years and are passionate about serving the community good food. Along with the incredible dine in food, they also offer catering services for your events and can be inquired about through their website.

While the construction is going on, Pita & Naan shares that there is parking available on Centennial Mall, P Street, N Street and the University Square Parking Garage.

These events provide a casual setting for guests, business owners or anyone else to learn more about the Lincoln business and nonprofit scene as well as Strictly Business as a publication.

We cannot wait to connect with all of you! These events are completely free to attend. All you will pay for is what you eat and drink. With that being said, we are very lucky to be able to host these monthly networking events. So if you come every month, or you’re a first timer for Friends4Lunch, anyone who likes doing great things in Lincoln, is invited!

RSVP is encouraged for these events. Please let us know by calling (402) 446-3330, or by emailing office@strictlybusinessomaha.com or marking yourself as “Going” on the Facebook event page.

And as a reminder: support local restaurants, organizations and businesses. This is what helps keep our local Lincoln community strong, connected and more aware of the things this great city has to offer!

LINCOLN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

Announcing the 2026 Federal Legislative Summit

Jason Ball, President & CEO – Lincoln Chamber of Commerce

The Lincoln Chamber of Commerce is proud to once again partner with the Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce and the Nebraska Chamber of Commerce & Industry to present the 2026 Federal Legislative Summit this August. For nearly two decades, this signature policy event has connected Nebraska’s business community with our federal delegation to discuss the policies and priorities shaping our economy, our communities and our future.

That tradition continues on Wednesday, August 12, when business and community leaders from across Nebraska will gather at the Strategic Air Command & Aerospace Museum in Ashland for this year’s Federal Legislative Summit. The program will feature members of Nebraska’s federal delegation, along with a keynote address from Ross Perot, Jr., Chairman of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, who will provide a national perspective on the economic and policy issues influencing businesses across the country.

This long-standing event began in 2009, following the collapse of Lehman Brothers, when the Lincoln Chamber launched the Federal Fly-Back: Bringing D.C. Home. Rather than asking business leaders to travel to Washington, D.C., the Lincoln Chamber brought Nebraska’s federal delegation home to discuss the issues affecting local employers and our state’s economy. This inaugural event quickly demonstrated the value of those conversations. Soon after, the Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce and the Nebraska Chamber of Commerce & Industry joined as co-hosts, transforming the event into a statewide collaboration. That partnership has continued ever since, helping establish the Federal Legislative Summit as one of Nebraska’s premier forums for business and public policy discussions.

Today, the importance of those conversations is stronger than ever. From tax policy and workforce challenges to infrastructure, trade and economic development, federal decisions continue to shape the environment in which Nebraska businesses operate. The Federal Legislative Summit provides an opportunity to hear directly from policymakers, better understand the issues affecting our state and engage in meaningful dialogue about Nebraska’s future.

I encourage business leaders spanning every industry to join us for this important conversation. I also want to thank Nebraska’s federal delegation for their continued commitment to engaging with Nebraska’s business community, as well as the Strategic Air Command & Aerospace Museum for once again serving as an exceptional host venue. I hope you will join us on August 12 for this highly anticipated annual event. Reserve your individual seat or corporate table today at lcoc.com/events and participate in a morning full of thoughtful conversations and legislative insight into the future of Nebraska and our nation.

Supporting Downtown Lincoln, One Lunch at a Time

As the Project O Street enhancements move forward, Downtown Lincoln is on its way to becoming even more vibrant and accessible.

While construction is a temporary inconvenience, the businesses that make O Street such a unique destination are still open and ready to welcome customers.

To support these local businesses during construction, Union Bank & Trust has launched a simple yet meaningful initiative: once a week, team members gather for lunch at a different Downtown Lincoln business on O Street. The idea is to support local entrepreneurs while discovering new favorites and revisiting longtime staples.

“As a way to show our support, our team is making it a goal to visit and support at least one local business each week,” Stephanie Dinger, Vice President of Small Business Banking at Union Bank & Trust, shared in a LinkedIn post. “Along the way, we’ll be sharing our favorites—whether they’re hidden gems you’ve never tried or longtime local staples you already love.”

The best part? Everyone is welcome to join.

Whether you’re looking for a new lunch spot, reconnecting with a favorite local restaurant, or simply wanting to support the downtown community, your visit can make a difference. Every meal, purchase, and recommendation helps these businesses navigate construction and continue serving Lincoln for years to come.

(ETJ) Voting Is the Right Thing to Do

The Lincoln Independent Business Association is strongly in support of the proposed ETJ charter amendment. This petition drive is not an attack on City Hall. It merely is addressing a fundamental question of representative government.

Simply put, an ETJ is an area extending up to three miles beyond Lincoln’s city limits where the city exercises authority over development and future growth. The purpose is sensible. Coordinated planning helps prevent haphazard development, inadequate infrastructure and costly mistakes that could complicate future annexation and growth.

The issue is whether the residents who live within Lincoln’s ETJ should have any voice in the government that regulates them.

Lincoln’s ETJ is among the most expansive in Nebraska. Property owners within it are subject to city planning decisions, subdivision regulations, infrastructure requirements and development standards. In many respects, the city determines what landowners can and cannot do with their property.

Just as it does within city limits, Lincoln’s Planning Department and Building & Safety Department can approve or deny subdivision plats, determine how land may be divided and require compliance with the city’s comprehensive plan. Residents in the ETJ are also subject to building permits, inspections, construction standards, development regulations and the fees associated with those processes.

When a government exercises that much authority over citizens’ property and future development, it is reasonable to ask whether those citizens should also have a voice in selecting the officials who wield that authority.

Many residents in the ETJ work in Lincoln, shop in Lincoln, and contribute to the city’s economy through sales taxes. They rely on transportation infrastructure and decisions made by city officials. Many are also customers of Lincoln Electric System, a utility governed by a board appointed through a political process controlled by city leaders.

Critics argue that allowing ETJ residents to vote would create representation without taxation. But Nebraska law already recognizes situations where voting rights and tax obligations can be treated differently. Similar safeguards can be crafted for municipal issues where direct tax liability is the primary concern.

At its core, this petition drive recognizes a simple principle: when the government exercises meaningful power over citizens’ property, development, and future communities, those citizens deserve a voice in selecting the officials who exercise that power.

There is one final irony voters should consider. If this measure reaches the ballot, the very residents whose rights are at issue will have no voice in deciding it. The people living in Lincoln’s ETJ cannot vote for the officials who regulate them today, nor can they vote on whether that should change tomorrow.

Voting “Yes” is not about diminishing anyone’s rights. It is about correcting the significant inequity of regulation without representation and extending a fundamental democratic principle to thousands of Nebraskans who are already governed by decisions made at City Hall. It is a right that you undoubtedly would want if you lived in the ETJ.

LIBA studies and promotes these types of issues that are important to businesses and our community. If you have an interest in joining, please call LIBA at (402) 466-3419. Buying a home in today’s market means there are several moving pieces that need to be considered at once. You might need a realtor with a particular skill set, you’re purchasing home insurance for the first time and don’t know where to look, the mortgage process is intimidating and confusing, or the moving process is just something you don’t want to deal with even though you want to move. Even with all of this, what if you realize you’d like to upgrade your new home after you move it?

There are many things to consider when buying a home, whether it’s your first time or your fifth. Most importantly, the home should be evaluated against factors such as how it will fit your lifestyle, how your belongings will fit inside the space, the preexisting condition of surfaces such as kitchen cabinets or exterior walls and if it can be updated in the future. Additionally, the market is constantly changing for buying a new home, making it difficult to keep up with everything you may need to remember as you search.

The businesses of Lincoln can help with individual concerns such as these, as well as give you friendly guidance towards what you what you truly need and want during the process.

It may sound and feel overwhelming to go through the process of buying a home, but worry not. There are local professionals who would love to offer their services to make the home buying process smooth, painless, and even a little fun!

Most people spend a lot of time thinking about the mortgage, inspection and closing costs, but don’t always think through the logistics of actually moving into the home. This is where T Square Movers has got you covered.

One of the biggest things to consider when purchasing a home is accessibility. Are there steep driveways, narrow streets, tight staircases or HOA restrictions that could impact moving day? If you’re purchasing a home with multiple levels or oversized furniture, it’s worth thinking about whether your belongings will fit through doorways, stairwells or elevators before closing. Doorways, staircases and room layouts can all be different than expected, so measuring ahead of time can save a lot of frustration.

Timing is another important factor. Delays with closing, overlapping possession dates or selling one home while purchasing another can create challenges if you don’t have a solid moving plan. Working with a professional moving company like T Square Movers early in the process allows you to coordinate schedules, avoid last-minute stress and prepare for unexpected changes.

T Square Movers is there to help you prepare for one of the most stressful parts of buying a home. They may even make the process

Well-Connected Prominent Optimistic High Level Experienced

so smooth that you don’t need to worry about it, leaving you to focus on other important tasks.

They also advise homeowners to have utilities connected before moving day and to make sure appliances are disconnected and ready if movers will be transporting them. Small details like these help everything stay on schedule so that your moving process can stay short and sweet; this way, you can enjoy the excitement of having a new home as soon as possible.

Lastly, don’t forget that moving is physically and emotionally demanding. A professional moving team can take much of that burden off your shoulders, allowing you to focus on settling into your new home instead of worrying about the heavy lifting.

Buying a home is exciting, and moving into it should be too. With the right planning and an experienced moving team like T Square Movers, homeowners can avoid many of the common headaches and start enjoying their new home from day one.

peeling finishes, water damage, swollen wood, loose hinges, and signs of poor-quality previous paint jobs.

On the exterior, look for fading, chalking, peeling paint, damaged caulking, cracks, failing sealants around windows and doors, and any moisture-related issues. Also pay attention to the condition of vinyl siding, brick, stucco, garage doors, and windows. Catching these issues early can help buyers budget appropriately and avoid unexpected repairs after moving in.

A neglected exterior can become much more expensive if maintenance is delayed. Small issues like failing caulk or deteriorating coatings can allow moisture to penetrate, leading to wood rot, mold, or structural repairs.

The good news is that many exterior surfaces don’t need to be replaced—they can often be professionally restored. Spray-Net helps homeowners extend the life of their siding, brick, doors, windows, garage doors, and more for a fraction of the cost of replacement, helping protect both the home and its long-term value. They are trustworthy and organized; with Spray-Net, your home will be left clean and tidy, and your surfaces will be as good as new. Spray-Net offers consultations both before a home is purchased and after closing on a home. An exterior consultation can help identify areas that may need attention, estimate restoration costs, and determine whether refinishing is a viable alternative to replacement. Having that information before making an offer can help buyers make more informed decisions and negotiate with greater confidence.

Ultimately, don’t judge a home by its color—judge it by the condition of the substrate underneath. Cosmetic appearance can be changed, but the condition of the materials is what really matters.

Many surfaces can be professionally refinished to achieve a factory-quality finish at a significantly lower cost than replacement. Spray-Net’s services provide a factory-like finish that is backed by a 15-year no-peel warranty. Additionally, many of their projects can be completed in as little as one day, meaning they will be quickly in and out, leaving you with the surfaces that look good and stay for the years of homeownership to come.

Having an experienced professional such as those at Spray-Net evaluate the home before you buy can potentially save you thousands of dollars and give you a much clearer picture of future maintenance costs.

According to Pat Ohmberger of Home Real Estate, the median age of first-time homebuyers has reached 40, raising an important question: why are so many waiting? Buyers ages 27 to 45 made up 26% of home purchases, down from 29% the year before, meaning the younger generation’s share of the market is shrinking just as they should be entering their prime homebuying years.

The central challenge facing the housing industry is affordability and access to homeownership for the next generation.

Homeownership is more than a personal financial milestone; it remains one of the primary ways families build and transfer wealth in America. Ohmberger believes the American Dream of homeownership is still alive, especially if younger buyers receive the guidance, education, and confidence they need to pursue it. The younger generation is ready to begin the process of homebuying; realtors can play an important role in helping them move toward a brighter financial future.

For many buyers, the first step is connecting with a realtor who can explain the process, answer questions, build trust, and help turn the goal of homeownership into a practical plan.

The Lincoln market has settled into a more normal rhythm after several fast-moving years. Multiple offers still occur in many price ranges, but buyers now have more inventory, more time to evaluate options, and a better opportunity to make informed decisions with the help of their knowledgeable realtors.

In Pat Ohmberger’s 35 years of helping clients buy and sell homes, she has seen how valuable it is to choose a realtor who can simplify the complex issues tied to real property and guide buyers through each step with confidence. Whether the concern is credit score, down payment, interest rate, or the closing process, a realtor can help separate myth from fact and make the transaction less stressful.

If homeownership feels out of reach, the best first step is to talk with a realtor like Pat Ohmberger early, ask questions and build a plan before assuming the American Dream is unavailable.

Alicia Chrastil of Nebraska Real Estate Specialty Group of Nebraska Realty brings a fresh view of both the process of buying a home and the Nebraska real estate market to her clients.

Her specialty is helping people make wise housing decisions during important life transitions, especially adults 55 and older, seniors, families, and veterans. Chrastil’s role is to educate, guide, protect, and advocate. A very important part of that is protecting her clients’ equity. She does not offer to buy her clients’ homes, because she believes that can create a conflict of interest. Instead, she helps homeowners understand the true value of their property, protect them from fraud, and guard them from quick-cash buyers or investors who may try to purchase a home far below its real market value. You are safe in her hands as you sell your home and look to buy a new one.

During the process of buying a home, she encourages clients to look beyond the pretty pictures and think about how the home will truly fit their life. Location matters, but so does safety, maintenance, layout, accessibility, resale potential, and the total monthly cost including taxes, insurance, utilities, and repairs. Chrastil can guide you as you take these aspects into consideration.

Chrastil’s specialty in helping older adults or families helping aging parents means she is aware of additional concerns to keep in mind. She shares that it is also important to consider main-floor living, fewer steps, bathroom safety, and proximity to family, medical care, church, shopping, and community support if you are an older adult or a family with older adults.

In today’s Nebraska real estate market, well-priced homes in good condition are still moving, but buyers are more cautious and educated than they were a few years ago. Interest rates, affordability, and limited inventory continue to affect decisions. Buyers want value, condition, and confidence, while sellers still have opportunity when they price correctly from the beginning.

At the heart of Alicia Chrastil’s work is the belief that a home is never just a house. It holds memories, independence, routines, and sometimes a lifetime of belongings. Chrastil’s goal is to help clients move from overwhelmed to confident, with real help, real care, and real estate guidance they can trust. With her experience and knowledge, she could be the perfect fit for you or your family in your home buying process.

When it comes to financing your home purchase, Union Bank & Trust is here to help. A great first step is getting prequalified so you have a better idea of what you can afford and can shop with confidence. In many cases, realtors prefer to see a prequalification letter before submitting an offer.

Unless you are purchasing a home outright without the use of a loan or mortgage, insurance will be required when buying a new home. Even in the few cases where a loan is not needed buying a home is huge investment that most people want to protect from disaster. This is where Shelter Insurance Companies come in: there are so many factors when buying a home that it is important to have an agent who understands your needs.

such as a bridge loan or home equity loan may be available. Once you’re prequalified, you can begin shopping for a home. When your offer is accepted and you have a signed purchase agreement, your lender can help you move forward with the mortgage process.

Conventional loans are among the most common financing options, and FHA loans can be a good fit for qualifying buyers. Eligible homebuyers may also benefit from Nebraska’s NIFA First-Time Homebuyer Program, which can provide assistance with down payment and closing costs.

With so many options available, talking with a UBT mortgage professional can help you determine which loan is right for you and get you started on your home buying journey as soon as possible.

To help keep the process on track, you should plan and set goals ahead of time, maintain good credit, avoid taking on new debt, and try not to make major financial or employment changes before closing. Most importantly, stay in close communication with your lender and ask questions along the way.

From prequalification to closing, the mortgage professionals at Union Bank & Trust will guide you through every step and help make your home buying experience as smooth as possible.

As you begin the exciting journey of purchasing a new home, the decisions can feel overwhelming. Finding a realtor who not only understands your unique needs but also listens and guides you can make all the difference. Deb Wagner of Nebraska Real Estate Specialty Group of Nebraska Realty is dedicated to ensuring your home-buying experience reflects your desires and vision.

A solid relationship with your realtor is essential, but so is collaboration

More than ever acquiring proper homeowners insurance can be something that can make or break a sale. Many changes have been made to homeowners polices over the last few years that make a huge difference in the cost and coverages you will be considering. Marketing and advertisements you see on TV almost always mention the cost. No one wants to overpay for insurance, but the premium should not be the only consideration when purchasing your home.

Roof claims are by far the most common claim that you will have on your house. As a consumer, you really want to pay attention to this when looking at quotes. Most companies have a separate deductible for wind/hail. This is normally 1% or 2% the value of the home. Shelter Insurance companies offers both but only requires 1% on most homes.

This is where people often get in the most trouble. They take a very high wind/hail deductible to keep the insurance cost low, and when hail happens, it puts them in a situation where they cannot afford to get it fixed. The bottom line is that it’s important to find out the age, kind, and condition of the roof and relay that information to your insurance agent before making any offers on a home.

There are so many factors when buying a home in Nebraska that make it very important to have an agent who understands your needs. Anyone can give you a quote and try to make it look appealing by having the lowest cost. But a good agent can explain why you need certain things and others that may not be as important; they are irreplaceable when it comes to getting the proper coverage on your new home.

Home insurance is an important piece of buying a home. Ashley Freese and Associates, Inc. recommends that new home buyers should be aware of various factors

when looking for home insurance.

Firstly, make sure the dwelling limit reflects what it would cost to rebuild the home today; labor/material costs can change. Next, review common gaps like water back up, service line, and match vinyl siding endorsements. Next, balance a deductible you can comfortably afford with a premium that fits your monthly budget. Next, think about the value of personal property (furniture, electronics, clothing) and whether you need extra coverage for high-value items.

It’s important to keep in mind the age of the roof, electrical/ plumbing updates, fireplaces/wood stoves, pools, dogs, and distance to fire protection can all affect eligibility, price, and coverage. Consider how much liability coverage you want for injuries or damage to others, plus whether an umbrella policy makes sense. Finally, ask about multi-policy (bundling), home security devices, newer/renovated home discounts, claim-free savings and impact resistant shingle discounts.

Home insurance is very important when purchasing a home in multiple ways. It protects your investment because a home is typically a family’s biggest asset. It can help you financially recover after events that may destroy the home, or after liability claims such as accidental damage to someone else’s property. Additionally, many mortgage lenders require proof of homeowners insurance before closing and want it kept active for the life of the loan.

Ashley Freese recommends that the appropriate time to start the process of insuring a new home is as soon as you’re under contract—ideally 3-4 weeks before closing. This gives time to confirm rebuilding cost, choose deductibles/coverage options, request inspections or documentation if needed, and provide proof of insurance to the lender. Coverage typically needs to start on the closing date (or the date you take ownership), so it’s best not to wait until the last minute.

Buying home insurance creates peace of mind: It helps homeowners focus on moving in and building their future instead of worrying about “what if” scenarios. Ashley Freese makes this process smooth and stress free so you can enjoy your new home!

It is common to buy a home that is almost perfect – everything is exactly what you want, but there are a few small things that are just different than you expected.

Willet Construction is there for all of the desired updates to your new home, from bigger projects like bathroom and kitchen remodels to smaller projects like retiling or door replacement.

The first thing most people do after buying a new home is changing the locks and security on the home. Who knows how many people have that garage code?

After this, the most common updates new homeowners make are fresh paint and flooring. These are easiest to get done before furniture gets moved in.

Some people will opt for renovations as well, before moving in, such as a kitchen or bathroom remodel. These should be planned and budgeted for as far in advance as possible, if you want them done before moving.

This can be a wise decision because you will not need to plan your everyday life to avoid the areas as they are being remodeled if you have not moved in yet. Additionally, when you move in, you will get the treat of having a brand new

space exactly as you wanted it.

You don’t need to entirely remodel your new home; something simple and low stress after the stress of buying may be what you’re looking for. Updating a backsplash is one way to change a kitchen without an entire remodel.

New cabinet hardware can also make a big impact, along with new light fixtures. With so many LED options out there, this small project can help you save money on your electric bill while updating your home.

Once moved in and some time is spent in the home, then you see what isn’t working so well. Improvements to areas you use every day, like the bathroom or kitchen, would be higher on the list since those things can quickly lead to frustration.

Willet Construction has many options for remodeling projects big and small to upgrade your new home and take it to the next level.
