Lincoln Airport Announces American Airlines Service to Dallas/Fort Worth, Chicago, and Phoenix Lincoln Airport (LNK) today announced that American Airlines will begin new nonstop service connecting Lincoln with Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) and Chicago O’Hare (ORD) starting June 2026, with seasonal winter service to Phoenix (PHX) launching in Winter 2026. The new service follows extensive community engagement and market analysis. Nearly a year ago, Lincoln Airport conducted a comprehensive Business Travel Survey, receiving responses from nearly 350 local businesses. Results showed that 40 percent regularly travel to the Dallas/Fort Worth market. Today, DFW is the thirdlargest air travel market for the Lincoln region, with nearly 150 passengers traveling between the two cities each day. “This is a pivotal moment for Lincoln Airport and for our community,” said Chris Hove, Chair of the Lincoln Airport Authority Board. “American Airlines’ decision to serve Lincoln brings competition, affordability, and global connectivity back to our market. What excites me most is the economic impact this service will generate for our hometown — conservatively estimated at $75 million.” In addition to twice-daily service to Dallas/Fort Worth and daily service to Chicago O’Hare, American will introduce seasonal winter flights to Phoenix, signaling the airline’s intent to grow alongside the Lincoln market. On July 4, 2025, Lincoln Airport operated eight daily departures on a single airline to two destinations, totaling approximately 400 available seats. By July 4, 2026, LNK is projected to offer 14 daily departures to five destinations on three airlines, with 724 departing seats—an 81 percent increase in capacity in just one year. Additional details on schedules and fares will be announced by American Airlines. For the latest updates, visit lincolnairport.com. #PrintProudDigitalSmart

NeCPG Encourages Safe Sports Betting as College Bowl Season and Playoffs Begins As the college football regular season has concluded, many college football teams will continue their season in postseason bowls or the national championship playoffs. These games are extremely popular for placing bets. Nebraska Council on Problem Gambling’s Executive Director urges people to practice responsible gambling behavior, and wants all Nebraskans to know that free and confidential problem gambling treatment is available. “As the holiday season gets into full swing, so do the opportunities to place a variety of sports bets. It is of high importance to ensure all Nebraskans are aware of the consequences of problem gambling, resources for problem gambling treatment, and education on how to gamble responsibly,” states Mike Sciandra, NeCPG Executive Director. Safe gambling begins with setting clear limits on time, frequency, and money spent. Individuals should only use disposable income, avoid borrowing or relying on credit cards or loans, and never pawn or sell items. Understand the odds of each game and treating gambling strictly as entertainment. Developing accountability, such as telling someone when and where you plan to gamble, can also help maintain control. It is important to avoid gambling when emotionally vulnerable or under the influence of alcohol. If you or a loved one is struggling with their gambling behavior, please contact the National Problem Gambling Helpline at 1(800) 522-4700 or the Nebraska Problem Gambling Helpline at 1 (833) BET-OVER (1 (833) 238-6837). Both phone numbers are free, confidential, and answered 24 hours a day, seven days a week by trained professionals. BUSINESS NEWS ALLO Business Simplifies the First Step to Managed IT and Cybersecurity ALLO Business is helping local organizations take a clearer first step toward reliable IT support and stronger cybersecurity through an initial, in-person consultation with their dedicated Managed Service Provider (MSP) team. The first meeting is designed for business owners and leaders, not IT experts. Instead of starting with technical jargon, the conversation focuses on day-to-day operations, business goals, and the practical risks that can quietly build over time, such as downtime, lost data, or security gaps that go unnoticed. During that first one-hour discussion, ALLO helps identify if the organization currently has an IT partner, what protections are in place (such as a firewall), how data is backed up, and how systems are being monitored. For organizations without dedicated IT support, the goal is to clarify what’s working, what isn’t, and what may be exposed—without judgment and without pressure. For those with an existing provider, ALLO reviews service levels, security coverage, and pricing to help determine whether the business is receiving appropriate protection and value. Following the first meeting, the team offers ongoing local support and employee-focused resources, including cybersecurity training, Lunch & Learns, phishing simulations, community events, and baseline security assessments. MSP pricing is presented as all-in, with potential adjustments based on compliance needs such as HIPAA or PCI. To learn more, visit AlloBusiness.com or call (844) 560-2556.

89% of Sumner Place Residents and Families Rate Their Experience as Excellent

10

Strictly Business JANUARY 2026

Sumner Place is proud to announce that 89% of residents and their families would recommend the community to friends and loved ones, according to recent satisfaction survey results. Each year, all Vetter Senior Living communities conduct surveys to gather feedback on the quality of care, food, activities and overall resident experience. The surveys include both structured questions and open-ended prompts, allowing residents to share their thoughts in their own words. Sumner Place does not take the responses lightly and loves hearing all feedback, whether negative or positive. The hope is that with Sumner Place’s resident-focused care, they can make any changes that are needed if there are missteps while folks are in their care, acting in the moment when areas of improvement are needed. They are always striving to improve every aspect of senior living and embody “Dignity in Life” as that is what the seniors deserve. Although the larger survey is conducted annually, they do also have a survey that is given out to residents within their first few months at a Vetter facility to gauge how they’re feeling and to ensure that the transition is going smoothly. Over the next month, they will dive into the data and create action plans so that next year the survey results can be even better, but beyond the numbers, they aim to provide the highest quality services to the elders. BUSINESS NEWS Pro Business Plans Expands Support for Entrepreneurs With New Funding Advisory Services Pro Business Plans has announced the launch of its new Funding Advisory services, officially rolling out January 1, 2026. The program is designed to help entrepreneurs move from idea to fully funded operations in a faster, more accessible, and more affordable way. For years, capital-seeking business owners have faced limited and often costly options. Accelerators tend to prioritize tech ventures and require substantial equity. Investment banks and M&A advisors are typically out of reach for early-stage businesses. Traditional bank financing can involve months of paperwork and significant personal collateral. On top of that, entrepreneurs are left to create investor materials, purchase contact lists, and seek their own introductions — all while trying to run or launch a business. Following several highly successful pilot engagements, Pro Business Plans has demonstrated a better path and is now offering this model to entrepreneurs nationwide. Leveraging its world-class reputation in investor-ready materials, the firm develops comprehensive data rooms and connects founders directly to lenders and investors actively funding businesses like theirs. Key advantages of the new service include: • No success fees or pass-through professional costs • No equity taken — founders retain full ownership • Focus on minimizing personal collateral requirements • Low-monthly-cost engagement guiding clients from idea to funding in as little as 3–6 months Pro Business Plans aims to empower more innovators with the tools and resources needed to secure capital — without sacrificing control of their vision. New Year, New Plan For most people the beginning of the year means New Year’s resolutions have been made and perhaps broken. For many people with employer coverage, those with coverage through the Federally Facilitated Marketplace (Obamacare), Medicare Part D plans or Advantage plans - January means the beginning of a new plan year. Here are some tips for making the most of your new plan year: 1. Make sure ID cards have arrived. The pile of mail and holiday cards on the kitchen table may contain an ID card. There may alternatively be a letter from the company directing you to log in to a member portal to access a .pdf document of a new plan ID. 2. Set up an on-line member portal. While this is used primarily to see claim information, payment history and access member documents, some companies give reward points for setting this up. There may be additional discounts or benefits accessible through this portal. 3. Check to see if the company offers an app that would allow access to member information from a smartphone. This can offer timely access to information at a provider’s office or other medical facility if a physical ID card is not available. 4. Explore any virtual care benefits offered to be ready to access care in case of minor incidents that require medical consultation over the weekend. If traveling on vacation out of state, emergency services may be the only thing your plan covers. Knowing in advance if there is access to 24/7 virtual care may be crucial. It is also a good idea to be familiar with any local urgent care facility considered to be in network. 5. If choosing to pay with a credit card, double check that the payment method won’t expire during the year. Prevent nonpayment or delinquent notices caused by an expired credit card. 6. Make sure to present the new plan ID information when going to the doctor’s office, urgent care or hospital for treatment. Disposing of outdated cards will make decision making easier months down the road. Starting a new plan can cause confusion and if there are other more complicated issues that arise, contact your insurance agent to assist. The licensed insurance agents at On Point Insurance Agency are ready to help!

Matt Spethman is the Strategic Account Executive at ALLO. Tell us a little about your business. - ALLO Fiber, founded in 2003 in Nebraska, is a rapidly growing telecommunications company that delivers high-speed fiber internet, business solutions, and phone services to communities across Nebraska, Colorado, Arizona, and Missouri. Known for its all-fiber infrastructure, ALLO provides gigabit-level connectivity for homes and businesses, while also offering enterprise solutions like cybersecurity and managed services. With a strong focus on customer service and community partnerships, the company has expanded into more than 50 markets, creating jobs and boosting local economies. ALLO’s mission is to improve quality of life through reliable, affordable connectivity, positioning itself as a trusted provider. How did you get started in the business? - After spending 25 years at Nelnet, I made the decision to take on a new challenge and join the team at ALLO as a Strategic Account Executive. In my role, I partner directly with State, Local, Government, Education, and Enterprise customers to become their trusted advisor. I’ve now been with ALLO for nearly two years, and from the very first day, I’ve truly enjoyed the experience. It’s an outstanding company, defined by its talented people and a culture that makes coming to work both rewarding and energizing. Tell us a little about your family. - I’ve been happily married to my wife, Michelle, for 25 years. Together we have three sons: Sam, who is currently in law school at the University of Nebraska; Henry, a junior at Nebraska Wesleyan University and a member of their soccer team; and Charlie, a sophomore at Lincoln Southwest High School who also plays soccer. Rounding out our family is Scout, our loyal and energetic dog. What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? - Play golf! What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? - In my younger years, I pursued golf professionally, traveling across the country to compete on regional tours with the dream of reaching the big leagues. Eventually, life led me down a different path, and I set aside my clubs to start working in a more traditional career. Who inspires you? - I am most inspired by my father, Dr. Jerry Spethman. His dedication to his profession, his unwavering integrity, and the way he always led by example have shaped the person I strive to be. He showed me that true success is not only measured by accomplishments, but also by the impact you have on others through kindness, perseverance, and service. Watching the way he balanced his career with his commitment to family has been a constant reminder of what it means to live with purpose and humility. If you could choose only one descriptive word to be remembered as, what would it be? - If I could be remembered by one word, it would be authentic. To me, authenticity means living true to my values, being genuine in my relationships, and never pretending to be someone I’m not. It’s about consistency between words and actions, and leaving a legacy built on honesty, sincerity, and trust. If you had a theme song, what would it be? - “One Day at a Time” by Joe Walsh—because life’s just easier when you don’t overcomplicate it. What is your favorite movie? - All of the Jason Bourne movies. What is your favorite TV show? - Modern Family. What is your favorite local Lincoln restaurant? - Mulberry’s BBQ. If you could have dinner with one famous person from the past or present, who would it be? - I would have dinner with Abraham Lincoln. It would be interesting to talk to him about leadership, resiliency, and navigating division. If our readers would like to contact you, how should they do so?You can contact me via email or phone. Alise Kontor is a Personal Banker and Operations Specialist at Western National Bank. Tell us about your business. - Western National Bank is a community bank that focuses on serving the financial needs of individuals, families, and businesses in our 11 communities throughout Nebraska and Kansas. As a community bank, we place a strong emphasis on building personal relationships with customers and providing an impressive range of banking services. With a commitment to community growth, we often participate in local events, initiatives, and partnerships to foster strong connections and help community development. Tell us a little bit about your family. - My husband, Kean, and I have been married for 3 years, and in December 2024, we welcomed our first son, Aven. Kean is the head coach for both the men’s and women’s golf teams at Nebraska Wesleyan, so between his busy coaching schedule and chasing after our energetic one-year-old, we’re always on the move. We’re also kept on our toes by our playful Cocker Spaniel, Winston, who adds even more fun to our lives! What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? - On my off days, you will usually find me out on the golf course, cheering on a hockey game, or spending time with my family and friends. I also love catching a K-State or Nebraska sporting events whenever I can – there’s nothing like the energy of a good game day. What is the most unique or interesting thing about your business? - We take great pride in being a family-owned business, and I’m incredibly fortunate to work alongside my dad, Dallen George, the president of the bank, and my sister, Cecilia Striler, who oversees the bank’s marketing. Our family’s connection runs so deep that even my dog, Winston, joins us at the Lincoln branch a few days a week, happily greeting customers and adding a bit of extra warmth to the office. If you could have a super power, what would it be? - I would have the superpower of time travel. I would go back in time to visit family and friends who have passed, cherishing moments with them once more, or travel to the future to see what I’ve accomplished and the person I’ve become. Which talent would you most like to have? - If I could have one talent, it would be cooking. I’m not naturally skilled in the kitchen and being able to prepare excellent food for every meal or occasion would be a dream. If you could choose any other profession to be successful in, what would it be? - If I could choose any other profession to be successful in, I’d be a professional background dancer for Taylor Swift. Being able to travel the world, living my best life, and getting paid to dramatically spin around on purpose. Plus, I’d get the perfect mix of fun and freedom – close enough to the spotlight to enjoy the perks but far enough away that nobody’s zooming in to judge my bad hair days. What is your favorite TV show? - My favorite TV shows are New Girl and Schitt’s Creek – clearly I peak in the “hot mess comedy” genre. What is your favorite local Lincoln restaurant? - My favorite local restaurant is Los Cabos Mexican Grill or CheeseSteak Grille. If you could have dinner with one famous person from the past or present, who would it be? - If I could have dinner with one famous person, I’d choose Cody Johnson. I’d love to hear his life stories firsthand, especially the behind-the-scenes moments from his tours. His authenticity, work ethic, and incredible talent make him someone I’d truly be excited to meet. If our readers would like to contact you, how should they do so? - I can be reached at (402) 413-2095 or by email at alise@ mywnb.com. #PrintProudDigitalSmart

How did you get started in the business? - I attended one of the oldest jewelry colleges in the United States, Gem City College. The school is located in Quincy, IL, right along the Mississippi River. It is still around today. In April 1990, I walked into Sartor Hamann right after I graduated from college and Don Hamann hired me that day. I’ve been at Sartor Hamann ever since.

Exceptional people. Exceptional living.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? - Every day is different in this business, and you’ve got to be ready to go when you’re working with precious items like people’s jewelry. We work hard to keep up with the latest technology and advances in the jewelry and metal industry. I do a lot of jewelry repairs, and each piece has its own set of challenges.

What has been your most important achievement professionally? - I think I’d have to say putting in almost 36 years at Sartor Hamann. What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? - I really like to play golf in my free time. What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? - I used to do archery. I was the indoor and outdoor state champion for about 8 years here in Nebraska. What is your favorite quote or the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? - I go back to some things that my dad has said: “Work hard and be reliable to other people.” What is your greatest talent that you don’t utilize in your daily work life? - I’ve got to say I’m a pretty good mixologist. I’ve got a homemade Bloody Mary recipe that is always a big hit at the Husker tailgates. I think it plays into that part of me that likes to be creative, just in a different space other than jewelry.

There are lots of plumbing contractors in Lincoln to choose from — but GUIDELINES there’s only one ICON. BRAND June 2022 v1.0

If you could choose any other profession to be successful in, what would it be? - I think I’d be a pilot. That was something, when I was young, that I always wanted to do. I have a lineage of family in the Airforce and I grew up making model airplanes. It just always appealed to me. What is your favorite local Lincoln restaurant? - I really like Toast right now. They’ve got a great menu and I really like the ambience; it’s got a good feel and they seem to be really consistent with their quality of dishes. You know you can go there and get a good meal any time. If our readers would like to contact you, how should they do so? - They can contact me via Sartor Hamann’s website contact form. #PrintProudDigitalSmart

Matt Talbot Kitchen & Outreach will hold its 3rd annual SHINE THE LIGHT event at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 1, at Antelope Park. All are welcome to join the onemile family- and group-friendly walk, where participants will step into a story and witness the journey of homelessness. “Three lives. Three journeys. One powerful night of awareness,” said Alynn Sampson, Executive Director. “One of our core values is compassion. We invite the community to join us in seeking to understand and alleviate the suffering associated with homelessness, especially during the winter months.” The walk follows a half-mile loop marked with luminaries around the playground, Auld Pavilion Recreation Center and Veterans Memorial Garden. Participants are encouraged to complete the loop twice. According to this year’s Point-In-Time Count, 542 individuals in Lincoln are experiencing homelessness. NONPROFIT NEWS Heart Attack Deaths Spike During Winter Holidays The American Heart Association warns that the winter holidays can be deadly, with research showing more people die from heart attacks during the last week of December than at any other time of year. Studies confirm this phenomenon: cardiac deaths peak on Dec. 25, followed by Dec. 26 and Jan. 1. In Sweden, researchers found a 37% increase in heart attacks on Christmas Eve, especially among older adults and those with diabetes or heart disease. Experts say cold weather, holiday stress, overindulgence in food and alcohol, and ignoring warning signs all contribute. Recognizing symptoms early and seeking immediate care can save lives, particularly in rural areas where emergency response may be delayed. The American Heart Association urges families to take preventive steps: • Know the signs of heart attack and stroke and call 9-1-1 immediately. • Celebrate in moderation by making healthy food swaps and limiting salt and alcohol. • Manage stress by carving out time for rest and self-care. • Stay active with at least 150 minutes of physical activity weekly, even during busy holidays. • Stick to medications and monitor blood pressure. Hands-Only CPR can also be lifesaving. Most cardiac arrests occur outside hospitals, often at home. Learning CPR through the Association’s short instructional video at Heart.org/HandsOnlyCPR is encouraged. Family gatherings are also a good time to discuss health history, since heredity plays a role in heart disease risk. Preventive measures and awareness can help ensure the holidays remain joyful and heart-healthy.

NONPROFIT NEWS CASA for Lancaster County Announces January- Join The Foundry’s Growing Community! February Volunteer Training Schedule Each year, Schemmer selects a Start the New Year right by advocating for at-risk children in juvenile court. CASA for Lancaster County is seeking new volunteers, with the training sessions beginning Jan. 20. This is a six-week course meeting Tuesday nights from 6 to 9 p.m. All sessions will be held at CASA for Lancaster County, 1141 H St., Suite C, on the third floor. CASA volunteers are trained community advocates assigned to abused and neglected children in juvenile court through no fault of their own. Volunteers have a court order granting access to the child and relevant records. This allows them to gather information, assess the child’s needs, and make informed recommendations. Volunteers accomplish this by getting to know the children, interviewing interested parties, and reviewing records and documents. CASA volunteers communicate the child’s needs and wishes to the judge, along with their recommendations for services or next steps. They are required to complete approximately 30 hours of pre-service training and 12 hours of in-service (continuing education) annually. Each volunteer is supervised by a CASA staff member. In 2025, CASA advocated for 291 children, trained 38 new volunteers, and had 114 volunteers assigned to children. When you were in high school, what did you imagine your future looking like? Was the picture clear or blurry? This fall, Avenue Scholars helped bring that mental image into focus for almost 300 Omaha high school students. From September through November, the program hosted almost 30 Career Awareness events at workplaces throughout the Omaha metro aimed at exposing participating Scholars to potential career opportunities. The events, held in partnership with 26 local businesses, involved on-site visits focused on teaching Scholars about different jobs available within a given industry, and about the education or certification needed to attain them. Many included hands-on, interactive workshops: At Hawkins Construction Company, for example, Scholars had the chance to operate a construction equipment simulator. The program was structured to provide Career Awareness experiences in each of Avenue Scholars’ six priority career pathways: healthcare, the skilled trades, transportation, information technology (IT), business and education. Partnering businesses included Children’s Nebraska, Millard Public Schools, Truck Center Companies, Security National Bank, the Nebraska Apartment Alliance, Cox Communications and others. Career Awareness is just one of many career-oriented programs Avenue Scholars provides participants throughout the year. In December, Avenue Scholars hosted three full days of days of Mock Interviews, in which Scholars from all 13 participating high schools engaged one-on-one in simulated job interviews with working professionals from across the city. In January, Avenue Scholars will hold an Internship Fair, which aims to place Scholars in open internships at businesses in their area of interest. NONPROFIT NEWS Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Midlands UScellular Spreads Holiday Cheer by Donating Kicks Off National Mentoring Month with a $5,000 Worth of Household Supplies to The Call to Action HUB Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Midlands (BBBSM) is calling on the Lincoln, Omaha, and Council Bluffs community to step up and make a life-changing difference for local youth this National Mentoring Month. With over 100 youth currently waiting for mentors, the need has never been more urgent. National Mentoring Month, an annual campaign created by MENTOR, highlights the power of mentorship and rallies new volunteers to join the movement. Across America, one in three kids grows up without a sustained, positive adult role model; a gap BBBSM is working to close in its service area. “Our mentoring programs have a proven, positive impact on young people, from reducing risky behaviors to improving academic and social outcomes,” said Nichole Turgeon, CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Midlands. “But we can’t do it without the support of our community. Right now, we have dozens of young people waiting for mentors. This is a crisis we must address together.” While the impact of mentoring is clear, the gap between youth waiting and available volunteers continues to grow. BBBS’s National Mentoring Month campaign serves as a call to action to redefine what mentorship looks like. BBBSM also aims to dispel common misconceptions, emphasizing that mentorship doesn’t require extraordinary effort. Simple, consistent moments—sharing a slice of pizza, watching a movie, or going for a walk—can make a lasting difference in a young person’s life.

This holiday season, The HUB was reminded of the power of community par tnership and generosity. US Cellular, now part of T-Mobile, made a meaningful $5,000 donation of essential household supplies to support young adults served by The HUB Central Access Point for Young Adults as they work toward stability and independence. For many young people transitioning into their own homes, everyday items can be a barrier to success. Through this donation, US Cellular provided practical supplies such as mops, brooms and dust pans, dish soap, toilet bowl cleaner, vacuums, batteries, light bulbs, and shower liners—items that help turn an empty space into a livable, dignified home. These resources directly support The HUB’s mission to offer unconditional support and programming as young people become productive, independent, and active members of the community. The HUB was one of 50 nonprofits across the county to receive a gift this holiday season. They are deeply grateful for this partnership and the tangible impact it will have on the lives of young adults at The HUB. Donations like this do more than provide supplies—they send a powerful message that our community believes in and supports young people as they build their futures.

This National Mentoring Month, BBBSM encourages adults to volunteer as mentors. To learn more, visit bbbsmidlands.org. To learn more, become a mentor, or make a donation, visit bbbsmidlands.org or call (402) 330.2449. Stay connected with us on Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn @bbbslincoln.

NONPROFIT NEWS Lincoln Children’s Museum Unveils New LNKLab for Kids 8-12 The Lincoln Children’s Museum recently added the LNKLab to the museum, a new space designed specifically for kids ages 8 to 12. The LNKLab expands the Museum’s offerings for older children and creates hands-on opportunities for reading, movement, creativity, and community involvement. The LNKLab features three activity zones. The Book Nook offers a space to relax, read graphic novels, and take a quiet break. The Energy Base invites kids to climb the rock wall or challenge themselves through games on an interactive projector. The Maker Studio provides opportunities for advanced craft projects and hands-on activities that encourage imagination and problem solving. Every two months, the Museum will highlight a nonprofit partner in the Maker Studio. Guests will work with the Museum team on craft projects that support each organization’s mission. The first partnership, taking place in December and January, is with the Capital Humane Society. Kids will upcycle T-shirts into dog and cat toys and use cardboard cutters to create scratching toys for cats. Members of the Capital Humane Society team will be on hand during the grand opening to connect with visitors. “We are thrilled to bring the LNKLab to life for the kids in our community,” said Tara Knuth, CEO of the Lincoln Children’s Museum. “This new space gives tweens a place to explore their interests and discover new skills in an environment made just for them.” “Community is at the heart of everything we do. People’s City Mission Launches January Winter Clothing Drive People’s City Mission is kicking off its January Winter Clothing Drive and inviting the Lincoln community to donate gently used winter hats, gloves, coats, and boots for all ages throughout the month of January. Donations can be placed in any of PCM’s red clothing toss boxes located across the city or dropped off at the back dock of the PCM Help Center at 6800 P Street. Each year, People’s City Mission distributes more than one million articles of clothing and household goods thanks to the generosity of local donors. These essential items support more than 40,000 individuals in need through the Mission’s Help Center. WORDS OF WISDOM Making Turnover a Superpower Employee turnover in service industries is unavoidable, and often treated like something to fear or fix. But what happens if we stop seeing turnover as a threat and start looking at it as something that can strengthen our employees, our businesses, and even our community? If we understand what drives it and manage it intentionally, turnover can become a real advantage rather than a constant problem. ServiceMaster PBM had a 92% annual turnover in 2025. Based on our current 156 employees, we expect to hire and train over 145 cleaners in 2026 to maintain our service levels. Even with those numbers, we are still well below where the janitorial industry typically sits. Analysts like IBISWorld describe turnover in our field as particularly high, and independent studies regularly estimate annual turnover in commercial cleaning from 75 to 200%. Some segments, with specialty cleaning services like ours, report rates as high as 300 to 400%. The first step in turning turnover into something useful is understanding that not all of it is bad. Positive turnover happens when people move on to something better for themselves. That might mean more hours, higher pay, a schedule that fits their life, a new industry, or going back to school. As an employer with a mission to create opportunities, SMPBM celebrates these as employee wins. We also encourage employees to come back part-time if they need additional hours or seasonal work. Negative turnover is different. These are departures caused by things we can influence. Unclear expectations, inconsistent training, unstable schedules, communication problems, or simply a mismatch between the person and the role. These are areas where we can improve. When you measure these patterns, positive turnover becomes proof that your people are growing, and negative turnover becomes information about what needs to be fixed in your business. Both are valuable. The way to unlock that value is to collect good data. Over the past decade, we have gathered anonymized information at hiring, during the first 90 days, and at exit. At hiring, we look at the number of applications compared to the number of hires each month and where those applications came from: job postings, walk-ins, referrals, returning employees, hiring events, or community outreach. In the first 90 days, we track the assigned manager, whether orientation was completed, and whether training was completed. At exit, we ask what would have made the employee want to stay and why they decided to leave. In the future, we will expand our tracking to include more role and location information. When you review this data over time, a story emerges. It reflects your industry, the local labor market, and your company culture. Instead of reacting emotionally each time someone leaves, you can use this information to design better systems. Predictable schedules, seasonal or variable schedules where they make sense, consistent communication, recognition of reliable work, and realistic descriptions of the job during orientation. All of these reduce preventable turnover. And the same information helps you strengthen customer service by identifying areas where cross training is needed, narrowing the scope of hard-to-retain positions so training is expedited, and recognizing which roles or locations may require more structure or leadership support. ServiceMaster PBM is continually working on improving negative turnover. We are not perfect, but we get a little better every year. One encouraging sign is that 51% of our hires come from returning employees and employee referrals – our #1 and #2 categories, respectively, for retention at 90 days. That tells us we are moving in the right direction. Here is to being better in 2026! SMPBM President – Reid Morrow Have a piece of wisdom worth sharing? We’re always looking for community voices to feature in our Words of Wisdom column! Contact the Strictly Business team at (402) 466-3330 or office@strictlybusinessomaha.com to take part.

Have You Found Your Tribe?

the golf course on the tee-box of #12.

It’s Not Too Late – and It’s Important!

Some told a colleague, but it was a bitch session.

This is a short story of one of those topics that (to quote Col Nathan Jessup) “deep down in places we don’t talk about at parties” – to be specific, mental health and burnout!

Most hadn’t told anyone.

A man was invited to speak at a private event. It was small, off the radar, and awkwardly intimate. No social posts. No cameras. No agenda. Only curiosity. He didn’t expect it to unfold like it did. The people in the room weren’t just accomplished; they were exceptional. They had spent the last 20 years building all they had. They had dedicated their life to a single profession, industry, business or boss. The rewards were obvious - titles, image, wealth, reputation and the spoils of a life that checked every box success promised to deliver. These were entrepreneurs. These were the ones everyone else leaned on. Doers. Problem solvers. Steady hands in high-stakes situations. Their business, their employees and their families relied on them. But for the first time in their life, the future didn’t seem so clear, there was a bit less “joy in Mudville” and they didn’t know WHY. Or even less clear – was where – or who to go to find out.

But by being there, they were telling him. People like this—people like you, people like me — carry it. We hide it because we solve problems, not create them. Because we have so many people depending on us that acknowledging doubts or acknowledging we’re tired – and we just don’t do that. But the people in that room were not the people the speaker was worried about. True, the people in that room had not found a tribe, but they were there. He had their attention and they were listening. They were listening which was a great start. And they shared how that felt. But what about the people who never raise their hand and who never share how they feel with anyone. Perhaps the ones reading this – and wondering how they can relieve the pressure – and do it a way that doesn’t wreck their image. The ones who are drowning and don’t know what to do about it. He could tell the audience was waiting for the pitch – what was the speaker “selling” that day? He told them very simply - What am I selling is YOU. I’m selling you and I’m asking for you to buy yourself back—to you. Buy yourself space. A space where you get to feel like you again.

It wasn’t that they truly didn’t want their success to continue – they were just exhausted! Not from the hours—from the pretending. Pretending they still wanted what they had spent 20 years building. Pretending that they still had the energy and the drive to continue to do what they’d been doing. Pretending they weren’t exhausted of everything depending on them.

A space where you don’t have to hide.

As he spoke, most hung to every word. His job was easy—all he had to do was tell them who he saw as he looked at each of them.

Two of can make a tribe…

A space where your title, at work, means nothing to me. A space where you have an answer to: “Who have you told?” The price of never admitting this note found you when you needed it will cost you the best years of your life. A tribe others will seek.

Halfway through his ramble, making eye contact with each, he stopped and asked a question.

So tell someone.

Who have you told?

This is your sign.

Four words, and the room went dead quiet.

This is your start.

Some told their spouse, but not everything.

Note - The essence of this article is based on a social media post by Lou Stroschein, founder of Normal 40.

Some told a friend, but it wasn’t a real conversation – it was

Find your tribe.

DOWNTOWN LINCOLN ASSOCIATION (402) 434-6900 by Todd Ogden, President

www.downtownlincoln.org

Handspun, Handcrafted, Handspoken: A New Name for a Longstanding Fair Trade Mission For more than four decades, a small but mighty shop in Lincoln has been quietly connecting global artisans with local shoppers. What began in 1981 as Helping Hands Handicraft became Ten Thousand Villages Lincoln in 1999: a name many in the community came to know well. But as of November 15, the store steps into a new chapter. Meet Handspoken. Though the name is changing, the heart of the organization remains precisely the same. The shop will continue its long-standing partnership with certified fair-trade artisans, work with the same global makers, and offer the same beautifully crafted goods that celebrate cultures and crafts from around the world. It’s the next evolution of a mission that has always centered on intentional consumerism and ethical trade. Why “Handspoken”? With the national Ten Thousand Villages organization restructuring, all partner shops were asked to return to independent, local identities. For the Lincoln team, that sparked a chance to choose a name that honored their roots. “Handspoken felt right,” Jillian Christy, Executive Director, explained. It nods to the store’s original name, Helping Hands Handicraft, while celebrating the handcrafted nature of the goods. It reflects the belief that every piece, from carved wooden bowls to hand-loomed textiles, carries the voice of its maker. The artisans’ work, quite literally, speaks for itself. The Big Day: What’s Happening Saturday To celebrate the new identity, Handspoken invited the community back into the space for the very first day under the new name. The storefront debuted fresh signage, a new logo developed in collaboration with Agent, a local creative agency perched above The Mill. Still the Same Mission More than anything, the team wants the community to know this: Handspoken is still the same fair-trade organization Lincoln has supported for decades: the same mission, the same makers, the exact same location, just a new name to carry them forward. “We’d hate for folks to think we’ve closed or moved,” Christy said. “This celebration is as much about joy and transition as it is about making sure people know where to find us.” A new name, a renewed story, and a continued commitment to global artisans, Handspoken is ready for its next chapter. And they’re inviting everyone to celebrate together.

The Lincoln Airport wrapped up the year with more nonstop flight destinations than it began with and Lancaster County is among the Nebraska counties experiencing sustained population growth – with more projected ahead. Your Lincoln Chamber of Commerce also experienced a milestone year. We were honored to renew our U.S. Chamber 5-Star Accreditation status, the highest distinction awarded to chambers – a level held by only 154 other chambers among the thousands that span the nation. This achievement reflects not only our organizational excellence, but the strength and leadership of our business community. Our communications efforts were also recognized on a national stage as we received the Excellence in Communications Award from the Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives (ACCE). We were also thrilled to celebrate Katie Bohlmeyer, Business Policy Advocate, who was named to ACCE’s 40 Under 40 list. These accolades affirm the impact of our work, but they also underscore the power of our members and the Lincoln business community. For that, I am immensely grateful. As we close the chapter on a successful year, I want to thank Lincoln’s business and community leaders for your support, leadership and continued collaboration as we continue working to ensure Lincoln remains an incredible place to build a rewarding career.

New Years Resolutions New Year, New Goals: Making Resolutions That Stick As the calendar turns to a new year, many of us pause to reflect on the past and look ahead with hope, anticipation and ambition. New Year’s resolutions have long been a cherished tradition, offering a chance to set intentions, create goals and commit to positive change. From focusing on health and wellness to advancing in careers, nurturing relationships or embracing personal growth, resolutions give us an opportunity to prioritize what truly matters. While the excitement of a fresh start is invigorating, following through on resolutions can be a challenge. Success often comes not from perfection but from intention, thoughtful planning and steady effort. By understanding what drives us, setting achievable goals and taking consistent steps, we can transform aspirations into meaningful, lasting change. January brings the excitement of fresh starts and New Year’s resolutions. For many people the goal is simple: move more, get healthier or challenge themselves in new ways. At Lincoln Running Co., participants in the Launch Your Toughness Challenge commit to running or walking one mile outside every day during the month. A mile may seem easy at first, but winter mornings in Lincoln can be cold, gray and unforgiving. The challenge quickly Ann Ringlein becomes about more than distance. It becomes a test of consistency, dedication and the willingness to get out the door even when it would be easier to stay under the covers. Small strategies can make a big difference. Dressing in layers, protecting hands and head and keeping the core warm helps people move comfortably despite the cold. Running with a friend, joining a class, or simply telling others about your goal can help maintain momentum. Consistency matters more than intensity at the start, and even a single mile each day can create a sense of accomplishment and structure. The challenge is also a lesson in pacing. Each day’s mile is not about speed or intensity. It is about showing up, completing the effort and listening to the body. Pushing too hard too quickly can lead to setbacks, so it is important to approach goals thoughtfully and remember the importance of pacing and recovery. Starting gradually and taking care of the body allows people to stay on track. The rhythm of daily movement creates momentum and gradually turns a short commitment into a lasting habit. By the end of the month the daily mile is no longer just a resolution. It becomes a routine and a reminder of what can be achieved through consistency and persistence. Participants discover confidence, endurance and the satisfaction of following through on their goals. The first mile outside may seem small, but it can become the first step in a year of growth, resilience and personal achievement. For others, staying active and reaching wellness goals can be more complicated than simply committing to a daily run. Injuries, chronic pain or lingering discomfort can make resolutions difficult to keep. Husker #PrintProudDigitalSmart

it is easier to maintain and also supports mental well-being. Starting gradually is key to avoiding setbacks. Many people make the mistake of jumping into intense activity after a period of inactivity, which can lead to overuse injuries. Husker Rehab emphasizes pacing, starting with achievable goals and slowly increasing intensity. Consistency and small steps are more effective than pushing too hard too soon. A holistic approach to wellness is also important. Physical therapy addresses pain and tissue healing, but overall health depends on mental wellness, nutrition and sleep as well. Making wellness and self-care a priority at the start of the year can set the tone for mental, emotional and physical well-being throughout 2026. With personalized care, gradual progress and attention to the whole body, Husker Rehab helps people turn their New Year’s resolutions into meaningful, lasting changes. As a new year begins, resolutions often arrive with optimism and urgency. Many people hope for quick results, whether that means exercising more, improving health, or finally establishing a routine that sticks. In 2026, Madonna Wellness Club in Lincoln is helping members turn these intentions into lasting habits by emphasizing patience, consistency, and achievable goal-setting. Entering its 20th year serving the community, the Wellness Club continues to focus on creating an environment where Samantha Kelly individuals feel suppor ted, not pressured, as they work toward their goals. With more than 150 years of collective experience in the fitness industry, the club’s team knows that lasting change rarely happens overnight. Instead, progress is built through small, achievable steps repeated consistently over time. Setting reasonable expectations allows members to avoid burnout and frustration, replacing the pressure to transform instantly with habits that gradually become part of everyday life. While instant gratification can be tempting, simply showing up, even in small ways, often proves to be the most powerful catalyst for meaningful, long-term change. Madonna Wellness Club encourages members to focus on realistic, measurable goals. Trainers, health coaches, and certified fitness instructors guide members in using the SMART framework. Goals should be Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Timesensitive. Instead of broad intentions like getting fit or losing weight, members are guided to define what success looks like in practical terms. A goal might be walking 20 minutes five days a week for eight weeks, or committing to three strength or fitness classes per week for ten weeks. Breaking resolutions into manageable steps gives members structure, clarity, and a sense of accomplishment as they move forward. Consistency is central to success, and the Wellness Club emphasizes that even small efforts count. Shorter workouts, a 15 to 20 minute walk, or a home yoga session can be just as meaningful as a full gym session when the priority is showing up regularly. Members are encouraged to treat themselves with the same encouragement and grace they would offer a friend, turning self-care into an empowering, rather than overwhelming, experience. Rather than encouraging dramatic transformations, Madonna Wellness Club focuses on approachability and sustainable progress. Early morning and evening classes are being expanded in 2026 to help members fit movement into busy schedules. New strength series, group fitness classes, mat Pilates, barre, yoga, nutrition workshops, and the quarterly Wellness Warriors program offer flexible ways to stay engaged beyond the initial burst of January motivation. For many, resolutions extend beyond general fitness. Madonna Wellness Club also supports goals related to injury recovery, pain management, and safely returning to activity. Specialty programs, such as the structured ACL return-to-activity program, help participants rebuild strength and confidence while reducing the risk of setbacks. By combining fitness, coaching, and tailored programs, members have the tools to work toward their goals thoughtfully and effectively. #PrintProudDigitalSmart

The Wellness Club’s team reinforces that mindset is just as important as planning. Progress matters more than perfection, and setbacks are part of the process. Showing up, being patient, and celebrating small victories helps members build resilience, confidence, and longlasting healthy habits. As 2026 progresses, Madonna Wellness Club continues to remind members that wellness is not a one-month resolution, but an ongoing commitment. By emphasizing achievable goals, consistency, and a supportive environment, the club helps individuals turn New Year’s intentions into routines that last well beyond January. Whether through group fitness classes, personal training, nutrition coaching, or specialty programs, members are encouraged to show up for themselves, make gradual progress, and take meaningful steps toward a healthier, stronger year. As a new year begins, many people set resolutions aimed at improving overall health, but figuring out where to start can be overwhelming. In 2026, A Well Being offers a holistic approach to wellness, helping individuals create personalized plans for mind, body, and spirit. Led by Dr. Casey Bogenrief, who combines the expertise of a physical therapist, athletic trainer, personal trainer, yoga instructor, and health coach, the practice integrates multiple Dr. Casey Bogenrief facets of wellness into every session. For those unsure where to begin, an initial evaluation provides a comprehensive starting point. Each visit includes a full health history, physical assessment, and health coaching consultation to develop a plan tailored to individual goals. Sessions can take place in person at home or work, or virtually, and can be scheduled as often or as infrequently as needed to fit a client’s lifestyle. Dr. Casey also collaborates with clients’ medical and wellness providers or recommends additional specialists when necessary, ensuring a coordinated approach to achieving and maintaining health. When it comes to starting a wellness journey, A Well Being focuses on realistic, sustainable approaches rather than quick fixes. Individual sessions integrate multiple services, allowing clients to combine physical therapy, athletic training, health coaching, and yoga in ways that fit their needs. The philosophy is prevention over reaction, emphasizing risk assessments, early intervention, and long-term maintenance plans. The ultimate goal is client independence, teaching people to manage their own wellness so they can thrive without constant medical intervention. Rather than focusing on weight loss or calorie counting, goals often center on mental and emotional well-being, consistency in physical activity, improved energy levels, or decreased reliance on medical interventions. Preventing injury and setbacks is another key component of a successful wellness plan. Functional assessments, balance analyses, and early intervention at the first sign of pain or debility help minimize risks. Small daily practices also help maintain momentum. Writing down SMART goals and reviewing them regularly, adjusting objectives based on progress, taking breaks from prolonged sitting, connecting with friends and family, and celebrating small wins all reinforce positive habits. Integrating mind-body-spirit activities such as meditation, prayer, music, or other soul-fulfilling practices helps create balance. Going outside, challenging oneself, and embracing discomfort when pursuing new routines also support growth. Common mistakes often come from expecting instant results or resisting change. True wellness is ongoing and requires consistent effort. Clients are encouraged to move and eat in ways they enjoy, finding physical activity that fits their preferences rather than following trends. Every aspect of daily life, from nutrition to environment, influences the ability to maintain health, so attention to lifestyle as a whole is essential. Support systems, consistency, and a willingness to adapt are far more important than perfection. As the calendar turns to a new year, many people set resolutions with the hope of improving health, building strength, or creating a consistent fitness routine. In 2026, Capital City Fitness & Performance in Lincoln is helping individuals turn those intentions into lasting habits, emphasizing support, consistency, and community as much #PrintProudDigitalSmart

Business P As the calendar changes, businesses are presented with more than just a new year, they’re given an opportunity to reset their direction and sharpen their focus. With markets shifting, technology evolving and customer expectations growing, having a plan in place is essential to navigating uncertainty. Reflecting on the successes and lessons of the past year allows leaders to make informed decisions and set realistic priorities for the months ahead. A strong plan aligns vision with execution, ensuring teams, resources and goals are working together. As businesses enter a new year, clarity around objectives is the first step in creating a strategic plan. Hamilton Business Technologies emphasizes that strategy should focus on what success looks like. Whether that is growth targets, operational efficiencies, improved customer experiences, or risk reduction. Once priorities are clear, companies should assess whether their current systems, data, and processes can support these goals. Aligning business priorities with technology capabilities ensures Ryan Wineteer the plan is strong from the outset, transforming technology from a cost center into a multiplier for growth. Reflecting on the past year is an essential part of planning for the future. Hamilton Business Technologies recommends that business leaders review how technology has or has not supported the growth of their business, how secure and reliable their systems are, and whether current tools can help them scale efficiently without adding unnecessary roadblocks. AI business enablement should be a key focus in 2026, helping companies identify practical AI use cases that streamline workflows, improve efficiency, and drive measurable results. If you have the right IT service provider, and particularly one that offers vCIO services, they will work hand in hand with you to position your business for growth from a technology perspective and guide you in including technology considerations in your strategic planning. This approach allows leaders to make informed, intentional decisions that position their company for both growth and adaptability in the year ahead. Realistic and measurable goals are essential for progress. Hamilton Business Technologies encourages breaking larger objectives into measurable milestones such as reducing downtime, improving response times, increasing system adoption, or strengthening security controls. Tying goals to metrics allows leadership teams to track progress throughout the year instead of waiting for year-end reviews. The most effective planning frameworks are simple, consistent, and well-communicated. Annual planning paired with quarterly reviews keeps businesses agile while maintaining focus. Technology tools like dashboards, reporting platforms, and secure collaboration systems make accountability and decision-making faster and more confident. Many Nebraska businesses miss opportunities by delaying technology assessments until problems arise. Early-year planning provides a chance to proactively evaluate systems, security, and processes before growth or change introduces risk. Hamilton Business Technologies helps companies seize these opportunities, supporting automation, data utilization, and team alignment. By ensuring teams understand goals, workflows,

and tools, Hamilton Business Technologies enables employees to work efficiently, securely, and confidently from day one. As Nebraska businesses look toward 2026, Alpha Zed Business Services encourages entrepreneurs to make system organization and workflow efficiency a key priority for the New Year. With proactive planning and the right technology partner, companies can enter 2026 equipped to grow, innovate, and achieve measurable results and spend less time worrying about the mess of technology systems. Alpha Zed specializes in helping Kim Hazelton businesses move away from juggling multiple disconnected tools and instead streamline sales, marketing, scheduling, and follow-up into one cohesive, automated system powered by Ontraport. By replacing scattered processes with a unified platform, business owners gain clarity, consistency, and more time to focus on strategy and clients. Whether a company needs a brand-new setup, optimization of an existing account, or support for a one-time project, Alpha Zed works alongside business owners to refine workflows, eliminate repetitive tasks, and reduce manual administrative work. Automation plays a critical role in planning for growth — managing appointment booking, payment processing, client onboarding, and routine follow-up so teams can stay focused on meaningful customer interactions. Taking time now to streamline systems positions business owners for a smoother, more efficient, and more scalable year ahead. Business planning is also a perfect time for business owners to reevaluate expenses that may be tax deductible, but navigating tax planning and preparation is rarely simple. They don’t want to be considered just a tax advisor, but as an extension of their clients’ organization. They truly want to learn about their clients’ businesses, lives, and goals, both professionally and personally. By working with clients closely in making sure there is a clear vision for the future, they provide their clients with the services they need to achieve success and meet their goals. The impact can be devastating. Industry studies show that 60% of small businesses close within six months of a major cyberattack. With the average data breach costing U.S. companies nearly $9.5 million, implementing strong cybersecurity measures is no longer optional. For Nebraska businesses, proactive protection—such as secure backups, staff training, and real-time monitoring—is essential for safeguarding data, maintaining operations, and ensuring long-term trust with customers. For small and mid-sized businesses, even a single preventable cybersecurity incident can quickly derail growth plans. A stable and secure technology foundation protects critical areas including system uptime, customer trust, employee productivity, and leadership focus. With cyber threats continuing to grow in frequency and sophistication, proactive protection is no longer optional—it’s essential. Beyond protection, cybersecurity also plays a major role in controlling costs and supporting business growth. Preventative security measures help reduce costly “surprise expenses” tied to downtime, ransomware attacks, data breaches, and emergency IT fixes. Insurance carriers are also tightening requirements, increasingly asking for security controls such as multifactor authentication (MFA), backup systems, and continuous monitoring. Businesses that implement these safeguards ahead of time experience smoother renewals and reduced exposure. Proactive monitoring, patching, and standardization further help stabilize IT spending and minimize operational disruptions. ALLO Business supports companies with a comprehensive cybersecurity strategy that begins with a baseline security assessment and extends into a layered protection model. This includes firewalls, endpoint protection, multifactor authentication, structured backup strategies, continuous monitoring, and employee education through phishing simulations and Lunch & Learn sessions. The result is fewer emergencies, more predictable costs, and a stronger platform for sustainable growth. ALLO Small businesses that maintain dedicated tech support and cybersecurity safeguards see measurable differences in performance and resilience. Studies show that companies with managed IT support reduce system downtime by up to 85%, leading to smoother daily operations and fewer revenue interruptions. The National Cybersecurity Alliance reports that one in five small businesses falls victim to a cyberattack each year, and of those, nearly 30% experience a data breach that affects customer trust. Businesses with proactive cybersecurity measures—such as real-time monitoring, software patching, and secure cloud storage—recover an average of three times faster from technical failures or cyber incidents compared to those without structured support. #PrintProudDigitalSmart

In contrast, businesses lacking these safeguards often face longer outages, higher recovery costs, and greater risk of data loss. With expert guidance and reliable technology systems, small business owners can focus on growth, strategy, and customer satisfaction. Investing in the right tools and processes early in the year helps ensure a productive and prosperous 2026. For many business owners, planning for the year ahead starts with confronting one unavoidable truth: cash is king. Having strong liquidity isn’t just about weathering downturns, it’s about positioning a business to thrive when opportunities arise. That requires both awareness and access. Today’s entrepreneurs are encouraged to look beyond traditional lending and stay open to creative funding solutions that can help sustain daily operations while fueling long-term growth. Yet raising the capital needed to run a business can feel like a full-time job in itself. Many owners find their attention pulled away from customers and the work they’re most passionate about as they navigate financial modeling, lender requirements, and funding applications. That burden is exactly what Pro Business Plan aims to lift. For more than a decade, the firm has focused exclusively on helping business owners understand what they need, Aaron Hill operationally and financially, to achieve their goals. Its model is built on transparency: no success fees, no pass-through professional costs, and no equity taken. Pro Business Plan also avoids recommending that clients collateralize personal assets whenever preventable, helping them preserve ownership and protect their financial stability. The firm’s approach is straightforward. It helps entrepreneurs identify the resources required to execute their vision, then works to secure the capital needed to bring that vision to life, so owners can stay focused on growing the businesses they built. This year, business owners are looking for ways to improve operations, strengthen branding, and support growth in 2026. A solid plan for visibility and marketing can help companies reach more customers and stand out in a competitive market. Sign Pro of Lincoln has been helping businesses of all sizes create effective signage and graphics for more than 30 years. launch, opening a new location, or updating marketing materials, businesses can benefit from strategic planning that ensures messaging is clear and attention-grabbing. Planning ahead with Sign Pro allows business owners to align their marketing efforts with operational goals. Effective signage can attract customers, communicate key information, and reinforce a brand’s identity. By working with an experienced team, companies can ensure projects are completed on time and on budget while achieving maximum impact. Investing in high-quality signs and graphics as part of a broader business plan positions companies for success throughout the year. Clear messaging, consistent branding, and attention to presentation can improve customer engagement, strengthen reputation, and support long-term growth. Real estate decisions impact a business in a variety of ways. Location directly affects accessibility to customers, suppliers and talent pools, which is crucial for boosting productivity and expanding market reach. Decisions about office space size and configuration or warehousing requirements can significantly affect operations. Financially, lease negotiations or property acquisitions impact costs, cash flow and long-term financial commitments. These decisions play a pivotal role in shaping the company’s bottom line, influencing its capacity to invest in growth initiatives. “As businesses assess their space needs for 2026 and beyond, we can assist them with decisions relating to relocation, expansion, lease negotiation or property acquisition. Given the current economic uncertainty, the right real estate decisions play a critical role in a business’s success,” shared Brett Harris, Director of Brokerage Services at Greenleaf Commercial Real Estate. that can shape the company’s future. Whether the objective is growth, succession, or long-term stability, thoughtful planning protects value and creates clarity during complex decision-making. When selling a business, preparation is essential. Well-organized records, documented processes, and a clear growth strategy influence both valuation and buyer confidence. Confidentiality is critical, and nondisclosure agreements protect owners, employees, and customers, creating trust for open dialogue, a principle emphasized by Young Capital Partners LLC. Understanding the owner’s strategy, unique strengths, and growth Terry Young potential helps illustrate upside under new ownership. Strong, predictable revenue and cash flow, defensible market position, and capable management all support smooth succession. Transparency during due diligence and assessing strategic versus financial buyers are key. With decades of experience, Young Capital Partners LLC provides a strategic playbook from target screening to deal flow, helping businesses protect value and achieve long-term success. Thoughtful planning creates stability in an unpredictable landscape and helps leaders make informed decisions rather than reactive ones. A strong business plan is not about anticipating every possible outcome, but about building the flexibility and structure needed to respond effectively when change occurs. By clearly defining goals, aligning resources and committing to intentional action, organizations can maintain momentum throughout the year. As the new year unfolds, investing time in planning now lays the groundwork for sustainable growth, stronger teams and long-term success, ensuring your business is prepared not just to adapt, but to thrive. Supporting Nonprofits Community involvement is a core value at Strictly Business. We believe in supporting our neighbors and giving back whenever possible, and working with nonprofits allows us to help strengthen the heart of our community. Nonprofit organizations address the needs of our most vulnerable neighbors and they work tirelessly to support causes that resonate with many of us. Many people don’t realize the impact they can have on nonprofits. At Strictly Business, we don’t like seeing things go to waste or be thrown away. Many items you want to get rid off or don’t have a use for anymore can become a gift and donation to some of these organizations. An old blanket you don’t use anymore can be rags and blankets for an animal shelter, and old towel for the same purpose. Other items that tend to sit unused include children’s toys, books, puzzles, school supplies, office items, and craft materials. Electronics such as old laptops, tablets, calculators, and working phones can often be repurposed by organizations. Many nonprofits also welcome unopened toiletries, laundry detergent, cleaning supplies, and personal care items. Check with your local nonprofits about the most needed items and you’d be surprised that some of them sit and collect dust at your home. If your house is spick and span and you’re sure there’s nothing left to donate (look harder!), giving your time can have just as big an impact. Nonprofits offer all kinds of volunteer opportunities, and most people are surprised by how many different ways they can get involved. Some of the most common include helping at food pantries by sorting donations, packing boxes, or serving meals. Shelters often need extra hands to organize clothing, tidy up common areas, or help greet the people they support. Youth organizations may look for mentors, tutors, or volunteers to help with activities and events. Animal shelters frequently need people to walk dogs, play with cats, or assist during adoption days. Environmental groups host park cleanups, garden workdays, and neighborhood beautification projects throughout the year. Many nonprofits also need behind-the-scenes help—things like office support, event planning, photography, or social media assistance. And during busy seasons, opportunities like holiday gift drives, school supply collections, and fundraising events pop up all over the community. Giving back matters—but meaningful advocacy starts with awareness. That is the purpose of our Supporting Nonprofits segment. Strictly Business is fortunate to partner with nonprofits by offering valuable visibility and media opportunities at an accessible rate. Over the years, we have seen countless connections form between businesses and nonprofits featured in our pages, leading to collaborations that create real impact and expand awareness for important causes. Lincoln nonprofits are the backbone to the growing community, industries and businesses we have in Lincoln. Each year, our readers use the magazine as a trusted resource when planning charitable giving, volunteer involvement, and seasonal support efforts. Featuring your nonprofit in Strictly Business not only increases visibility but also connects your mission with individuals and businesses who are actively seeking ways to give back. By sharing your story in these pages, you ensure that community members can discover your organization, understand your impact, and consider you as part of their annual giving and engagement plans. #PrintProudDigitalSmart

Hundreds of children and youth in Lancaster County experience abuse and neglect each year. Court Appointed Special Advoca tes (CASA) for Lancaster County works to change that by recruiting, training and supporting volunteers who advocate for children involved in Juvenile Court. CASA volunteers get to know each child, understand their circumstances and provide the judge with clear, informed recommendations to help ensure safety, stability and a path to permanency. Volunteering with CASA offers a direct and meaningful way to change a child’s future. A CASA advocate becomes a steady, trusted presence—someone who listens, speaks up and makes sure the child’s needs and wishes are heard. For those unable to volunteer, donations create equally powerful impact. Support helps CASA train more volunteers, reach more children and ensure no child moves through the court system alone. Help “Change a Child’s Story™” by volunteering or donating today. For more information, contact CASA for Lancaster County at (402) 474-5161, visit casa4lancaster.org, or follow @CASA4LancasterCo on Facebook.

Nebraska Diaper Bank believes that all babies deserve clean diapers. The impact of a clean diaper cannot be overstated. Since 2014, Nebraska Diaper Bank (NDB) has operated a growing diaper distribution program, partnering with social service agencies to serve families across the state. Clean, dry diapers are essential to a baby’s health and well-being, yet many families struggle to keep up with this basic need. Diapers are not covered by SNAP, WIC, or Medicaid, so for families already stretching every dollar, spending $80 or more per month on diapers can be the breaking point. NDB is dedicated to filling this critical resource gap for low-income families in Nebraska. By distributing diapers through trusted partner agencies, NDB helps reduce financial stress and empowers parents to work, attend school, and provide a more stable environment for their children by taking one more expense off their plate. Currently, NDB serves over 5,000 babies each month, distributing more than 300,000 diapers across Nebraska. The need continues to grow—and so does our commitment to ensuring that no child goes without this essential item. To learn more about our mission or to get involved, visit nebraskadiaperbank.org.

Founded in 1989 by Dennis a n d C a ro l W h e e l e r o f Auburn, Nebraska, Midwest Animal Rescue was created to address the growing need for care of homeless and unwanted dogs. In the early 1990s, the organization became Hearts United for Animals (HUA), evolving into a nationally recognized leader in animal welfare. The nonprofits featured in this issue show the wide range of important work happening throughout Lincoln. Each organization plays a unique role in addressing community needs, supporting local families, and stepping in where resources are limited. Together, they illustrate how essential the nonprofit sector is to the overall health, stability, and wellbeing of our community. Seeing these missions side by side highlights how much nonprofits contribute—often quietly—to everyday life. Their efforts help strengthen networks of support, improve access to services, and create opportunities that make long-term difference for the people they serve. Many of these organizations are deeply embedded in Lincoln’s neighborhoods, responding to needs as they arise and adapting their programs to meet changing circumstances. Whether providing food, shelter, education, health services, or advocacy, nonprofits are often the first to identify gaps and the last to step away from difficult work. Nonprofits also play a major role in shaping the culture and character of a city. They bring people together, create community events, support youth development and the local arts, and give residents meaningful ways to connect with one another. In many cases, nonprofits help drive collaboration between local businesses, schools, faith communities, and government agencies; progress is rarely achieved alone. The partnerships they build not only strengthen their own missions but enrich the entire community in ways that ripple far beyond their programs. Strictly Business aims to provide a space where nonprofits can share their work and increase community understanding of the issues they address. We want to remind individuals and businesses of an opportunity where they can do a lot of good for nonprofits. Individuals or businesses may sponsor a nonprofit to be in this feature, which gives them six months of press release coverage. This visibility helps organizations reach new supporters, highlight their achievements, and expand the impact of their mission. If you don’t see your favorite nonprofits—or the one you work with—reach out to paige@strictlybusinessomaha.com or office@strictlybusinessomaha.com to find out how to sign them up or sponsor them. We will be running a limited followup Supporting Nonprofits feature for our February edition. #PrintProudDigitalSmart
