Strictly Business Lincoln - March 2026

Page 1

A Paige From My Notebook...

As we move into March, there’s a renewed sense of momentum in the air. Longer days, fresh ideas, and new opportunities are beginning to take shape across our business community. At Strictly Business, this time of year always reminds us how important connection, collaboration, and visibility are to the success of local businesses.

One of the greatest strengths of our region is the number of professional associations, chambers, and industry organizations working tirelessly to support growth. These groups don’t just host events— they create relationships, advocate for business interests, and provide invaluable resources that help companies thrive. Being engaged in these organizations is often the difference between simply operating a business and truly growing one.

We encourage our readers to take a closer look at these organizations and consider how participation might align with their goals for the year ahead. For many businesses, membership opens doors to partnerships, referrals, leadership opportunities, and increased visibility—benefits that extend far beyond a single meeting or event.

At Strictly Business, our mission has always been to amplify the voices of local businesses and the organizations that support them. We’re proud to serve as a platform that connects entrepreneurs, leaders, and professionals throughout our region. Your success stories, milestones, and community involvement are what make this publication possible and meaningful.

“Connection is the foundation of every thriving business community.”

That’s why I’m excited to highlight our Joining Organizations feature. This section is designed to showcase the many associations that serve our community and to help businesses discover opportunities to get involved. Whether you’re looking to expand your network, build credibility, stay informed on industry trends, or simply meet like-minded professionals, joining the right organization can be a game-changer.

As we head further into 2026, I invite you to stay engaged, stay curious, and continue building the relationships that strengthen our business community. Thank you for reading, supporting our advertisers, and being an active part of the Strictly Business family.

Here’s to a productive and connected spring.

Warm regards,

Unlimited Sports Solutions’ TIGER Netting System Named ASBA Game Changer Award Winner

Unlimited Sports Solutions (USS) is proud to announce that its TIGER Backstop Netting System has been named a Game Changer Award winner by the American Sports Builders Association (ASBA) during the ASBA Technical Meeting in San Antonio.

The ASBA Game Changer Award recognizes vendors whose products represent game-changing innovations in the sports construction industry. The TIGER Netting System was honored for addressing one of the most persistent challenges in traditional netting systems: durability.

Developed by Unlimited Sports Solutions, the TIGER Backstop Netting System is a breakthrough in sports barrier technology. Unlike traditional netting, this system is vandalism-resistant and engineered to withstand both intentional and accidental damage, significantly reducing maintenance and replacement costs. At the same time, it preserves the core benefits of netting systems—clear spectator sightlines and enhanced safety by keeping balls contained within the field of play.

The American Sports Builders Association (ASBA) exists to promote the highest standards of design, construction, and maintenance for all types of indoor and outdoor sports facilities. ASBA serves as a centralized resource for builders, designers, suppliers, owners, operators, and the athletes and spectators who enjoy these facilities.

“We are truly honored to be recognized by the leading organization in the sports construction industry,” said Ron Dubas, President of USS. “Being named an ASBA Game Changer reinforces our mission to drive meaningful innovation, and the TIGER Netting System reflects our dedication to advancing sports safety and product performance.”

Lincoln Airport Named 2025 Airport of the Year for Excellence, Innovation, and Community Impact

Lincoln Airport (LNK) has been named Nebraska’s 2025 Part 139 Airport of the Year by the Nebraska Department of Transportation’s Division of Aeronautics.

The award was presented on January 29, 2026, in Kearney, Nebraska, during the Nebraska Aviation Council Aviation Symposium. It recognizes the airport’s exceptional performance in air service development, infrastructure investment, operational reliability, and community engagement.

The award follows an unprecedented year of growth! In 2025, LNK welcomed two new airlines: Breeze Airways launching nonstop service to Orlando, Las Vegas, and Orange County; and American Airlines adding new routes to Dallas Fort Worth and Chicago, along with seasonal service to Phoenix. These additional routes will nearly double daily departures, expand seat capacity, and are projected to generate nearly $75 million in new economic impact for the region.

Also in 2025, LNK launched the largest infrastructure project in its history - a nearly $100M rehabilitation of Runway 18/36 (one of the longest runways in the nation at 12,901 feet) fully funded through federal, state, and local partnerships. At the same time, Lincoln Airport remained committed to community engagement through educational tours, STEM initiatives, aviation partnerships, and hosting free public events.

“What Lincoln Airport accomplished this year has been monumental, not only within the State of Nebraska, but across our industry at large,” said Kenneth L. Strickland, Director of Air Service Development at Crawford, Murphy & Tilly. “Using a data-driven, strategic approach, Lincoln Airport delivered one of the most compelling post-pandemic air service turnaround stories in the country.”

March is Problem Gambling Awareness Month

8320 Northwood Dr. #800, Lincoln, NE (402) 261-3738

5500 Old Cheney Rd #4, Lincoln, NE (402) 261-3221

Choices Treatment Center, in partnership with the National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG), recognizes March as Problem Gambling Awareness Month (PGAM). This year’s theme, “Caring Communities, Stronger Futures”, emphasizes the importance of a community-driven approach to problem gambling awareness and support.

Problem gambling is behaviors that damage personal, family, or professional lives, affects millions of Americans. In the U.S. 2.5 million adults are estimated to meet criteria for a severe gambling problem every year. Another 5 to 8 million are considered to have mild or moderate problems. Additionally, in the past year, approximately 20 million American adults reported experiencing at least one indicator of problematic gambling.

Throughout March, Choices Treatment Center will lead efforts of increasing public understanding and ensuring individuals are aware of the available prevention, education, treatment, and recovery services in their community. Activities will include information and screening tables at organizations through Lincoln, proclamations recognizing PGAM by the state of Nebraska, the city of Lincoln, and other communities, and lastly a social media campaign recognizing PGAM and bringing awareness to prevention and treatment.

These efforts reflect a simple truth: when community comes together— friends, families, educators, healthcare providers, local partners, and policymakers—silence is replaced with support, and isolation is replaced with connection. To learn more about problem gambling, please visit NCPGambling.org/FAQs.

If you or someone you know is struggling with a gambling problem, the National Problem Gambling HelplineTM offers free, confidential support 24/7. Call or text 1-800-MY-RESET or chat at NCPGambling.org/chat. You can visit Choices Treatment Center choicestreatmentcenter.net.

NEBRASKA’S MULE BAR

EPIC Option Expands Efforts to Advance Proposed Nebraska Tax Amendment

EPIC Option has announced the launch of a statewide donation campaign to support efforts to place a proposed constitutional amendment on the 2026 Nebraska ballot.

The grassroots petition initiative is focused on giving Nebraskans the opportunity to vote on potential changes to the state’s tax structure. The proposed amendment would eliminate property taxes, as well as personal and corporate income taxes and inheritance taxes, if approved by voters.

Campaign leaders note that property valuations in some areas of Nebraska have increased significantly in recent years, creating financial challenges for many property owners. To help accelerate the signature-gathering process required for ballot placement, EPIC Option is encouraging supporters to donate a portion of what they currently pay in property taxes. Funds raised will be used to hire Nebraska workers to assist with signature collection and statewide outreach.

The organization is currently operated by unpaid volunteers and has established a fundraising goal of $2 million to support petition circulation and operational efforts.

For more information about EPIC Option or to support the campaign, visit EPICoption.info or contact Campaign Chair Mark Bonkiewicz at (402) 490-8612.

Alpha Zed Business Services Launches New Workflow Assessment Service

Alpha Zed Business Services has introduced a new Workflow Assessment service designed to help service-based businesses gain clarity around their systems, processes, and client onboarding workflows.

As businesses grow, tools and processes are often added over time, making it harder to see how everything works together. The Workflow Assessment provides an outside perspective on backend operations, helping business owners identify what is working, what may be causing inefficiencies, and what improvements should be prioritized.

The service is delivered through a focused 90-minute working session that maps how a business operates today, including tools, workflows, internal handoffs, and how information moves from one step to the next. Following the session, clients receive practical, actionable recommendations to improve efficiency while maintaining systems that are already working well.

Some businesses use the Workflow Assessment as a standalone clarity session, while others use it as a starting point before moving into deeper system setup or implementation support.

The service is especially helpful for businesses looking to improve onboarding, add structure to backend systems, evaluate current workflows, or gain an outside perspective before committing to larger operational changes.

For more information or to schedule a Workflow Assessment, visit alphazedservices.com/Workflow-Assessment-Page.

Working Past Age 65? Make Sure You Make the Right Medicare Decisions

Here are some questions commonly heard at On Point Insurance Agency about Medicare enrollment:

Do I have to start Medicare when I turn 65? - In certain circumstances the answer is yes. First, if covered through the Affordable Care Act, the eligibility for the Advance Premium Tax Credit ends when eligibility for Medicare begins. Paying full price for a plan through the ACA would always be more expensive than Medicare premiums. Only individuals with eligible immigration status who have not yet qualified for Medicare by living here for five years may get ACA tax credits over the age of 65.

Second, you are required to begin Medicare if currently employed where there are fewer than 20 employees. Employer coverage can be used in addition to Medicare to cover the gaps of Original Medicare (Part A and Part B), but Medicare is primary and the employer plan will be secondary.

Can I keep my coverage through my employer after age 65? –Yes. If there are more than 20 employees the employer plan will pay first instead of Medicare. In this instance, it is possible to start Part A only and continue with employer coverage and there will be a coordination of coverage between the two. Part B can be added later when leaving the employer plan. When starting Part B after the age of 65, Medicare will require proof of employer coverage. I’ve heard there are Medicare penalties in the future if I don’t enroll right away? - The Late Enrollment Penalties to avoid are for both Part B (medical) and Part D (prescription drug coverage). There is an 8-month Special Enrollment Period after leaving an employer’s plan to enroll in Part B without penalty. Beyond this eight-month window, enrollment in Part B is only allowed annually during the General Enrollment Period of January 1st – March 31st. There is also a cumulative Part D penalty that begins to accrue on a monthly basis after 63 days of leaving an employer plan which will be assessed when a Part D plan is chosen later.

Can I keep COBRA after age 65 so my younger spouse can have coverage? - No. COBRA is not considered creditable coverage by Medicare so penalties will be assessed accordingly when enrolling in Medicare. A spouse still needing coverage could choose to enroll in the ACA Marketplace or find an ACA alternative plan while the employee enrolls in Medicare.

Let the licensed health insurance agents at On Point help you navigate the road from employer coverage to Medicare!

Now Flying from Lincoln.

STAR CITY SIX ASHLEY

Ashley Tobias is the 100% womanowned founder and owner of T Square Movers and a co-owner of Save Nebraska Local, both based in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Tell us a little about your business. - T Square Movers is a familyowned moving company that has served Lincoln and the surrounding communities since 2016. We started with a simple goal: do things the right way in an industry that often gets a bad reputation. The business has grown from labor-only moves into a full-service operation. We prioritize care, communication, and respect for both our customers and team. Today, T Square Movers is known as the sober moving company. Being 100% woman-owned is something I’m proud of, especially in a labor-intensive industry where leadership doesn’t always look like me.

How did you get started in the business? - Like many small businesses, T Square Movers started at our kitchen table. What began as a practical idea quickly became something bigger once we saw how much people appreciated honesty and reliability while moving.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally?Learning how to grow responsibly. One of my biggest challenges has been protecting our culture while expanding. Hiring the right people, setting expectations and boundaries is essential, even when it slowed growth in the short term.

What has been your most important achievement professionally?

Tell us a little about your family. - Family is at the center of everything I do. Who inspires you? - I’m inspired by people who lead quietly and consistently. Those who take responsibility, stay grounded, and help others succeed without needing recognition.

What is your favorite quote or best piece of advice you’ve received? - “Do the right thing, even when it’s hard. Even when no one is watching.”

If you had a theme song, what would it be? - “Rise Up” - Andra Day.

I build long-term relationships with individuals and business owners, striving to be a trusted resource as clients navigate their financial journeys.

How did you get started in the business? - I began my career as a teller, drawn to the strong opportunities within the industry. Nearly 19 years later, it has become a long-term career I see continuing into the future.

The move required adapting to new banking technologies, engaging in a new client base, and building relationships with new colleagues. The transition has been challenging and rewarding.

What has been your most important achievement professionally?

- Being able to find balance—successfully navigating my roles as a business professional, wife and mother while also discovering and pursuing my passion for the nonprofit sector. STAR CITY SIX BRIAN

Brian Peterson is the Director of Sails at Leadership Harbor.

Tell us a little about your business. - I like to win and I like to help others find ways to win, too. At Leadership Harbor, we come alongside individuals and teams who are willing to invest in growth and development. We help leaders strengthen themselves, elevate their teams, and build heathier, more effective organizations.

How did you get started in the business? - I spent 33 years working for a major rubber manufacturer, where I grew professionally and invested deeply in in my personal development. That commitment led to becoming a Lay Pastor and joining Maxwell Leadership. Over time, I was promoted to Chief Chemist and gained a seat at the leadership table, where leadership development became part of my role alongside my technical work. Eventually, I was asked to step away from leadership and focus on engineering. That moment reinforced a key belief: no one likes to be managed, but people don’t mind being led. It was time to lead myself.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? - My biggest professional challenge has been investing in myself. I’m naturally more of a saver than a spender, so committing financially to personal growth has always required a step of faith. Joining Maxwell Leadership was a major investment, but an even bigger stretch came when John Maxwell offered access to a group of financial experts for $10,000 over a year. I wrestled with the decision, but with Kris’s encouragement, I committed. It reinforced a key lesson: investing in the right relationships and guidance accelerates growth and success.

What has been your most important achievement professionally? - Joining Maxwell Leadership.

Tell us a little about your family. - I am happily married to Kris Peterson for 38 years. We have two incredible daughters, Kylie Meter, middle school music teacher at Pound Middle School. She is married to Cameron, lead auditor for Grafton & Associates. They have twin seven year old daughters and a three year-old son. Our other daughter, Mandy Peterson, is owner of the graphic design company, Sevn Spero Creations.

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? - Sailing.

What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? - I had Lasik surgery – now I have one near-sighted eye, and one far-sighted eye. Who inspires you? - My Maxwell Leadership connections have impacted me most and inspire me.

What is your favorite quote or the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? - “Everything rises and falls on leadership.” - John Maxwell. If you could choose only one descriptive word to be remembered as, what would it be? - Determined.

If you could have a super power, what would it be? - Teleportation. What is your greatest talent that you don’t utilize in your daily work life? - Investing. After another successful year, my advisor suggested when I was done doing leadership development, I might consider becoming an Investment Advisor. Which talent would you most like to have? - Discernment.

What is your favorite book or the last good book you read? - Live Life Rich by Marisssa Nehlsen.

If our readers would like to contact you, how should they do so? - Email: Brian@leadershipharbor.com or Phone (402) 310-7500.

STAR CITY SIX ABBY

Abby Bartholomew is the Director of Innovation and Entrepreneurship at the Lincoln Partnership for Economic Development.

Tell us a little about your business. - I just joined the LPED team in January of this year. The Lincoln Partnership for Economic Development (LPED) is a public-private collaboration charged with fulfilling Lincoln’s Economic Development goals. The focus of my role is to support the local startup community by valuable connections, providing resources, hosting events, managing our grant program LaunchLNK, and being a voice for the entrepreneurial community.

How did you get started in the business? - I am new to economic development, but I am not new to the entrepreneurial community. I coown a small business called Escape Lincoln (a local escape room in the Historic Haymarket) which recently expanded to include The Nook, a cozy community hangout where people gather beyond screens. I also previously owned a high-growth subscription box called Smartass & Sass. I have spent the last 10 years running my own businesses, and that experience has given me great perspective on my new role with LPED and on how I can serve the startup community best.

What local nonprofit organization(s) are you passionate about or involved with, and are there any special reasons why? - I am obviously passionate about the work we do at LPED, but there are so many other great organizations in Lincoln. I have always loved the Arbor Day Foundation and their commitment to trees. My family attends the Applejack Festival every year! And I love supporting the Foundation for Lincoln City Libraries who do such amazing work supporting our libraries and fostering a love of learning in our community.

What is your favorite book or the last good book you read?Reading is my favorite pastime, but I have such a hard time picking favorites! I read all genres, but lately I’ve been reading fantasy and romance. A couple of recent favorites are Sunrise on the Reaping (Hunger Games), Hazelthorn, Metal Slinger, A Rivalry of Hearts, and The Institute. I also love science fiction, and Ender’s Game was my first foray into the genre.

What is your favorite local Lincoln restaurant? - There are so many amazing local restaurants in Lincoln, but one of my favorite things is Lazlo’s fries with honey mustard. When I’m craving a burger, I can’t resist the 1809 from Honest Abe’s! And if I am in the Haymarket and need a boost, I always stop at Crescent Moon Coffee. I love their rotating menu themes (Fallout, Stardew Valley, Princess Bride!). Escape Lincoln, the escape room I co-own with Anh McClure, first opened in the Apothecary just down the hall from Crescent Moon and it’s been my favorite ever since.

If you could have dinner with one famous person from the past or present, who would it be? - I would love to have dinner with Dolly Parton! She is one of those rare celebrities whose impact goes way beyond entertainment. Her work with childhood literacy, especially through the Imagination Library, shows how seriously she takes investing in children and their futures. At the same time, she’s always modeled a kind of confident, unapologetic womanhood that’s both ambitious and grounded. She uses her success to lift people up, and does it with warmth and humor instead of ego. It’s that mix of generosity, grit, and genuine heart that makes her feel less like a distant icon and more like someone you would actually want to sit down and talk with.

If our readers would like to contact you, how should they do so? - My email is abartholomew@selectlincoln.org and my number is (402) 436-2374.

Foundry Space Expansion: Calling PurposeDriven Individuals & Organizations!

Shared Space. Shared Amenities.Shared Community. At a time when resources are scarce for many small organizations, nonprofits, and businesses, sharing and collaboration just make sense!

The Foundry Community provides more than just desks. It’s a safe, positive, supportive space to connect and succeed. Their building in downtown Lincoln is a thriving community of thought leaders in business, the public sector, and nonprofits, united by purpose and driven by impact.

From the beginning, they’ve believed that the most powerful spaces are built intentionally, designed to foster collaboration among mission-driven organizations. The expansion reflects this core belief, and they want to continue to create meaningful opportunities for nonprofits to connect, share resources, and amplify their collective impact.

An Intentional Step Forward

This expansion isn’t simply about adding square footage. It’s about strengthening the ecosystem of changemakers in Lincoln. They’re creating additional space where nonprofits and purpose-driven businesses can find a professional home alongside fellow thought leaders who share their values and vision for community impact.

What Awaits!

Thoughtfully designed by Schemmer Architects and with renovations already started, their expanded space will be ready to welcome new members by January 1, 2027. Here’s what this intentional growth will bring to the community:

• Ten private offices (140-190 square feet each) - only 2 left!

• A prime downtown location (one block from the University and six blocks from the Capitol), placing our community at the heart of Lincoln’s civic landscape, with adjacent parking for convenience

Junior Achievement Volunteer Impact: What One Day in a Classroom Really Looks Like

For many business professionals, the idea of volunteering in a classroom can feel intimidating. The reality, however, is far simpler, and far more impactful, than most expect.

A Junior Achievement classroom experience typically lasts 30 to 45 minutes. Volunteers are provided with ready-to-use lessons and supported every step of the way. What matters most isn’t teaching experience, but lived experience. When students hear directly from professionals about budgeting their first paycheck, exploring career pathways, or what it really means to show up prepared and confident at work, the lessons come to life in ways textbooks can’t replicate.

Volunteers often walk into the classroom expecting to give, but leave having gained just as much. Students ask thoughtful, sometimes surprising questions. They’re curious about real careers, real decisions, and the people sitting in front of them. Those moments, when a student realizes they can picture themselves in a future career, are where the true impact happens.

Junior Achievement volunteers play a direct role in preparing the future workforce by connecting education to real-world application. One class period may seem small, but its influence can last for years. For local businesses, it’s a simple, meaningful way to invest in the next generation, one classroom at a time.

GoodwilltoHost14thAnnualNeighborhood Challenge

As garage sale season nears, Goodwill Industries Serving Southeast Nebraska, Inc. invites Lincoln neighborhoods to register for their 14th annual Neighborhood Challenge. This event encourages neighbors to donate unsold items from garage sales while competing for a chance to improve their community.

Participating neighborhoods will receive a free, centralized donation pickup after spring and summer neighborhoodwide garage sales. After the pickup, Goodwill will weigh the donations. At the end of the summer, the three Lincoln neighborhoods that collect the greatest weight of donations exceeding 2,000 pounds will win a cash prize to improve their neighborhood.

By donating to Goodwill, neighborhoods will support Goodwill’s mission of changing lives through the power of work. The revenue from Goodwill’s thrift stores in Lincoln helps fund local programs that assist job seekers as they overcome traditional barriers to employment. Goodwill also recycles many of the items it cannot sell.

To sign up, email donate@lincolngoodwill.org or call (402) 4382022 with a preferred date, time and centralized pickup location. All Neighborhood Challenge pickups must be scheduled at least two weeks in advance, but Goodwill encourages associations to sign up as early as possible, because spots fill up quickly. Apace Participates in Jefferson County Gives on March 19

Apace is proud to participate in Jefferson County Gives on March 19, a 24-hour day of giving that brings the community together to support local causes. This year, donations will help address a critical need at Apace Fairbury’s Day Center, which is currently outdated and no longer meets the needs of the individuals who gather there each day.

The day center serves as a vital space where individuals come together for activities, shared meals, and meaningful connection. For more than a year, Apace has been fundraising to build or purchase a new facility that is modern, ADA-compliant, and designed with safety, accessibility, and inclusion at the forefront.

In Fairbury, Apace supports 27 individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, each deserving a space that supports growth, dignity, and belonging. Your support during Jefferson County Gives can help turn the dream of a new day center into a reality and make a lasting impact in our community.

SomeOf Us4Allof UsBringsTheCommunity Fridge Initiatives to Lincoln

Some Of Us 4 All of Us is a nonprofit organization focused on addressing concerns in the Lincoln area. One of their concerns is addressing the food insecurity and the lasting impacts that affect so many in Nebraska, specifically the Lancaster County. That’s where The Community Fridge comes in. The Community Fridge was created in an effort to combat hunger among our most vulnerable communities bringing nourishment to all who find themselves in need for whatever reason. With an estimated 40,000 individuals in Lancaster County that are food insecure this initiative is timely. The first Community Fridge will be installed at The Salvation Army on 27th and Potter St. and should be available to the public by the end of March.

Here’s how it works: Some Of Us 4 All Of Us places refrigerators on the most vulnerable communities and commission locally owned restaurants to fill them daily with fresh meals. Not only does this help to feed those in need, but it also supports local small businesses. The goal is to fill each fridge with up to 100 meals daily.

These meals are designed to be packed full of nutrients and taste. Each meal follows a nutritional guideline of 1/3 produce, 1/3 protein and 1/3 carbohydrate. The restaurants are sourced to provide variety of different cuisines for a diverse experience.

Former Hometown Interns Take on New Roles at Nebraska Community Foundation

Nebraska Community Foundation (NCF) is pleased to announce new roles for two former Hometown Interns, empowering them to further help NCF’s team of talented professionals build a Greater Nebraska.

Hannah Miller of Shickley and Natalie Roberts of McCook, both juniors at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, join NCF as Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) Fellows, new roles that will support and unleash the gifts of the 2026 cohort of Hometown Interns. Both are former Hometown Interns, giving them unique insights that will help as they foster ABCD education and create avenues for learning and engagement for new and returning interns, community-based affiliated funds and Greater Nebraska Youth. This will be Miller’s third year with NCF following two summers as a Hometown Intern with the Shickley Community Foundation Fund, an affiliated fund of NCF. Roberts served as a Hometown Intern for McCook Community Foundation Fund, also an NCF affiliated fund.

After spending time away, Hometown Interns return to their community to re-engage with their place, cultivate self-assurance, exchange knowledge and help infuse fresh perspectives and an asset-based approach into their affiliated funds’ local initiatives. Miller and Roberts will support the Hometown Internship experience through curriculum design and facilitation, peer learning session curation, and the creation of continued learning opportunities.

BBBSM Bowl for Kids’ Sake 2026 Rolls Out “Prom Night” Theme in Lincoln and Omaha

Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Midlands (BBBSM) invites the community to lace up their bowling shoes and relive the magic of prom at Bowl for Kids’ Sake 2026, the organization’s signature annual fundraiser supporting one-toone youth mentoring.

This year’s theme, “Prom Night,” adds a fun, nostalgic twist to the beloved event. While corsages, tuxes, and dresses are optional, participants can expect an evening filled with music, laughter, friendly competition, and a shared commitment to empowering local youth. Instead of slow dances, attendees will celebrate mentorship by knocking down pins and raising critical funds that power life-changing matches between Bigs (mentors) and Littles (youth).

Bowl for Kids’ Sake will take place in both communities. The Lincoln event will be on May 1 at Sun Valley Lanes and the Omaha/Council Bluffs event will be from April 21-24 at Spare Time.

Funds raised through Bowl for Kids’ Sake directly support Big Brothers Big Sisters’ mentoring program, helping recruit volunteers, provide ongoing match support, and ensuring youth have access to positive role models. With many young people still waiting to be matched with a mentor, community participation is more important than ever. Teams, corporate partners, families, and individual supporters are encouraged to register, fundraise, and attend. No bowling expertise is required! Just a willingness to have fun and make a difference. To register a team, become a sponsor, or learn more, visit bit.ly/ lnkbfks26 for Lincoln and bit.ly/bfks2026 for Omaha. Willard Community Center Grateful for Partnership with To the Brim Communities

Willard Community Center is deeply grateful for its ongoing partnership with To the Brim Communities, whose generosity helped strengthen Willard’s Adult and Senior Program throughout 2025. Willard Community Center’s Adult and Senior Program serves adults age 55 and older through wellness classes, educational workshops, creative arts, and social opportunities designed to promote overall well-being. Community partnerships like To the Brim Communities are essential to sustaining these services and reducing barriers to participation.

Willard Community Center extends sincere thanks to To the Brim Communities for their generosity, collaboration, and continued investment in the health and well-being of Lincoln’s older adults. Vision Maker Media Celebrates 50 Years of Educating Audiences

Vision Maker Media (VMM) marks 50 years as the premier source of film by and about Native Americans with a dynamic yearlong film festival, presented both in-person and online. The festival theme, “Everything is Connected,” highlights the powerful relationships between land, sky, environment, and people that continue to shape Indigenous storytelling.

On March 9, VMM proudly presents “Coming Round” at The Ross Theater. The film depicts the moving story of the Kashia Pomo Indians of the Sonoma Coast as they work to reclaim their ancestral land and revitalize cultural traditions. The screening includes a recorded interview with producer J. Mitchell Johnson, offering deeper insight into the film’s impact and creation.

The online festival continues the theme with three compelling films available for free streaming throughout the month: “And Knowledge to Keep Us,” “Made for Her,” and “Oyate Woyaka.” Each story explores how culture, identity, place, and community remain deeply connected across generations. For free tickets, visit theross.org. To view the online festival, visit visionmakermedia.org/vision-makerfilm-festival-presents-everything-is-connected.

Children, families and educators can also engage with Native history through VMM’s iNative Shorts for Kids YouTube channel. March’s “Shaping History” theme features episodes from “Choctaw Code Talkers” and “LaDonna Harris: Indian 101,” highlighting how Choctaw and Comanche leaders have shaped the course of Native and mainstream American and world history.

Keep Nebraska Beautiful Announces First Sustainability Seal Recipients

Last year, Keep Nebraska Beautiful (KNB) announced the start of a new program: the Sustainability Seal Program. KNB created this program to celebrate green businesses that weave sustainable practices into their daily work.

The Sustainability Seal is more than a certification — it’s a public commitment to protecting Nebraska’s environment and building a sustainable future.

KNB awarded Sustainability Seals to five businesses or organizations in 2025: Nebraska Recycling Council (Lincoln, NE), First Star Recycling (Omaha, NE), District 2 Floral Studios (Omaha, NE), Dundee Candle Co. (Omaha, NE), and Papio Roofing (Omaha, NE). These businesses truly go above and beyond in sustainable business practices and KNB is honored to recognize and celebrate them!

By formally recognizing green business efforts, KNB hopes other businesses across Nebraska are inspired to take action and create a ripple effect of positive environmental change. Together, we all can show that sustainable practices strengthen our planet, our communities, and the success of local businesses.

To join the ranks of sustainable business leaders, visit knb.org/ sustainability-seal to apply today or call (402) 486-4562 for more information!

Matt Talbot Kitchen Seeks Volunteers as Meal Demand Continues to Rise

Matt Talbot Kitchen & Outreach is seeking volunteer meal teams as the number of meals served continues to grow in response to rising hunger in the Lincoln community.

Matt Talbot, Lincoln’s only community kitchen and day center for individuals and families experiencing homelessness and poverty, serves nutritious lunch and dinner meals every day of the year. On average, 283 meals prepared onsite are served daily, and demand continues to increase.

In 2025, Matt Talbot provided more than 263,000 meals through onsite meal service and the Fresh Choice Pantry—a 13% increase in dining room meals compared to the previous year. The kitchen has already seen a 25% increase in onsite meals when comparing January 2025 to January 2026.

David Staenberg Family Foundation is thrilled to work with The Lincoln Community Foundation (LCF) to make available the David Staenberg Dyslexia Scholarship, a meaningful opportunity designed to support students with dyslexia as they take their next steps toward higher education. This $1,200 scholarship will be awarded to one graduating senior from a public or private high school in Lancaster County who has a confirmed condition of dyslexia.

The David Staenberg Dyslexia Scholarship reflects LCF’s ongoing commitment to equity, access, and celebrating the strengths of students with learning differences. Students may apply by completing the online application at lcf.academicworks.com, or by requesting a fillable PDF application that can be completed electronically or by hand and submitted via email or mail to scholarships@lcf.org.

In addition to the general scholarship application, applicants for the David Staenberg Dyslexia Scholarship will answer two additional questions: one describing how dyslexia has impacted their educational journey, and another providing a reference email from someone who can confirm the dyslexia diagnosis. References must be submitted by the same deadline as the application, so students are strongly encouraged to apply early.

The application deadline is March 15. For questions about this scholarship or the application process, please contact Trish R. at trishr@lcf.org or (402) 474-2345. LCF encourages eligible students to apply and take advantage of this empowering opportunity to support their future success.

“Volunteers are at the heart of everything we do,” said Alynn Sampson, executive director. “As more neighbors turn to us for support, we rely on the generosity of volunteer meal teams to ensure everyone who walks through our doors is met with dignity and a warm meal.”

Meals are served cafeteria-style in Matt Talbot’s dining room or available to-go. Volunteer teams typically help prepare and serve meals, with staff providing guidance on menu planning and access to USDA food.

Matt Talbot has several recurring openings for meal teams in 2026, as well as opportunities for one-time volunteer service. Volunteer teams may choose from three options:

• Provide, Prepare & Serve: Teams purchase ingredients, prepare the meal, and serve it. This option helps Matt Talbot reduce food costs and invest more in housing and case management services.

• Pay & Serve: Teams make a $300 donation to cover food costs, and Matt Talbot staff prepare the meal while volunteers serve.

• Sides & Serve: Teams provide side dishes while Matt Talbot prepares the main entrée, allowing for partial coverage of meal costs.

Faith communities, businesses, families, and civic groups are encouraged to volunteer.

To learn more or inquire about open volunteer dates, contact Victoria O’Neil, Director of Hunger Relief and Volunteerism, at victoria.oneil@ mtko.org or 402-817-0623.

For information about making a monetary donation in support of the hunger relief program, contact Lori Wellman, Director of Development, at lori.wellman@mtko.org or 402-817-0621.

Messier Marathon Returns to Branched Oak Observatory: March 21–22

Clear your calendar and charge your batteries—because the universe is calling. The Branched Oak Observatory will host its annual Messier Marathon on the nights of March 21–22, inviting amateur astronomers, seasoned observers, and curious newcomers alike to attempt one of astronomy’s most rewarding challenges.

A Messier Marathon is a friendly race against time to observe all 110 objects in Charles Messier’s famous catalog in a single night. These deep-sky treasures include galaxies, nebulae, star clusters, and supernova remnants—each offering a unique glimpse into the vast structure of our cosmos. Success depends on careful planning, patience, and a bit of celestial luck, but the real reward is the shared experience under dark Nebraska skies. Participants may use telescopes, binoculars, or simply observe alongside others and enjoy the spectacle. Volunteers will be on hand to provide guidance, star charts, and tips throughout the night. Whether you aim to spot a handful of Messier objects or chase all 110, everyone is welcome. The observatory grounds will open Saturday evening, with observing continuing through dawn Sunday morning. Attendees are encouraged to dress warmly, bring red flashlights, and prepare for a long—but unforgettable—night. Come test your observing skills, meet fellow stargazers, and celebrate the beauty of the night sky. The Messier Marathon at Branched Oak Observatory promises challenge, discovery, and awe—one object at a time. Viewing begins right at dusk and goes until dawn on Sunday. Visit theboo.org for more details.

With CEF

Across Nebraska, something powerful is happening in elementary schools, community centers, and neighborhood spaces: children are gathering each week to hear the life-changing message of Jesus Christ through Good News Clubs. These clubs, hosted by Child Evangelism Fellowship of Nebraska, provide a safe, fun, and Bible-centered environment where kids learn biblical truths, memorize Scripture, sing, pray, and build character.

But here’s the honest truth—Good News Clubs only happen when people step up. There are two simple, high-impact ways you can be part of this mission.

First, you can sponsor a club through your financial support. Your gift provides curriculum, training, background checks, supplies, and outreach materials. It ensures that volunteers are equipped and that no child is turned away because of lack of resources. Sponsorship turns generosity into gospel access. Second, you can volunteer just two hours a week. That’s it. Two hours to invest in eternal things. You don’t need to be a Bible scholar or a public speaker. CEF provides training, materials, and ongoing support. What children need most is a caring adult who will show up consistently and point them to Christ.

Whether you give, serve, or both, you become part of a bigger story—one where lives are changed, families are impacted, and seeds of faith are planted that can last a lifetime. Good News Clubs are simple. The message is eternal. The need is real. Will you help bring the Good News to Nebraska’s children? For more information, please visit cefnebraska.org.

Some Moments Feel Full Circle as The HUB andRotary14UnitetoSupportYoungAdults

The HUB Central Access Point for Young Adults is incredibly grateful to Lincoln Rotary Club 14 for selecting the organization as part of this year’s Rise Shine Give event, on Sat. Feb 7, a morning that raised both awareness and critical support for young adults in the community.

What made this event especially meaningful were the stories shared by individuals and Rotarians whose own life experiences mirror the challenges many young people at The HUB face today. To see people who once could have benefited from the same support now giving back, raising their voices, their time, and their resources, is powerful and deeply inspiring.

This is what community looks like. This is what hope looks like. This is what full circle looks like.

Preliminary fundraising totals for the event are being reported at $70,000 raised! These funds will be spilt between The HUB Central Access Point for Young Adults and the Rotary 14 Foundation. Lincoln Rotary Club 14 Foundation is the conduit for Rotary’s charitable giving and community service projects.

Because of Rotary 14 and everyone who showed up, gave generously, and helped spread the word, The HUB can continue walking alongside young adults as they build stability, connection, and independence. Thank you for believing in young people and in the power of community support to change lives. To learn more about supporting The HUB visit, hublincoln.org.

For families across Nebraska, this support provides meaningful relief. Nebraska Diaper Bank distributes more than 300,000 diapers each month to approximately 5,000 babies through community partnerships, helping caregivers meet a basic need that is often overlooked but essential to a child’s health and well-being.

“Diapers are a basic need, yet far too many families struggle to afford enough for their children,” said Anna Lehotyak, Development Director at Nebraska Diaper Bank. “This donation means parents can focus on caring for and bonding with their babies, knowing they have what they need.”

The local donation is part of a larger national effort marking the anniversary of the National Diaper Bank Network. In January, Huggies donated 15 million diapers to the network in just 15 days. As NDBN’s founding sponsor, Huggies has donated more than 20 million diapers annually and, through an expanded partnership, has committed to contributing 75 million diapers over the next three years. PulsePoint Respond is a real-time view into dispatch, increasing community awareness of emergent events, alerting citizens to cardiac arrest victims nearby

On Feb. 20, a collaborative group of local fire departments, businesses, nonprofits, and hospitals (The “TriCounty Cardiac Arrest Collaborative”) announced the adoption of PulsePoint in Douglas, Sarpy and Washington Counties, and currently available in Lincoln. The event was held at Thompson Alumni Center at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. The speakers detailed the benefits of PulsePoint, a free-to-download mobile app, which:

1) alerts citizens of cardiac events in their vicinity so they may administer aid

2) helps build a comprehensive Automated External Defibrillator (AED) registry

PulsePoint Respond empowers everyday citizens to provide lifesaving assistance to victims of sudden cardiac arrest (SCA). PulsePoint Respond app subscribers who have indicated they are willing to assist in case of an emergency can be notified if someone nearby is having a SCA and may require CPR.

The companion app, PulsePoint AED, lets citizens report and update AED locations so that emergency responders, including nearby citizens, can find an AED close to them when a cardiac emergency occurs. This information is then shared with local authorities to verify. After that, the AED location data can be made available to dispatchers and anyone using the PulsePoint Respond app.

The Impact of Trust in Small Business: A Dividend or a Tax?

When Stephen M.R. Covey published The Speed of Trust, he made a simple but powerful claim: trust isn’t just a social virtue—it’s an economic driver. For large corporations, that insight can mean billions of dollars in efficiency gained or lost. For small businesses, where every customer, every employee, and every dollar matters, the impact of trust is even more immediate and personal. For a successful small business, one that operates on thin margins and grows largely through word of mouth and reputation, trust isn’t optional. It is the hidden currency that often determines whether a business thrives or struggles.

The Formula - Speed and cost move in opposite directions depending on the level of trust. When trust is high, things move faster and cost less. When trust is low, everything slows down—and costs rise. Large organizations can absorb low trust environments with layered compliance systems. Small businesses can’t. Every hour spent double checking, is an hour not spent creating value for customers. One of the greatest advantages small businesses have over larger competitors is speed—agility. But mistrust slows decision making and creates hesitation where speed once existed. In competitive markets, speed matters, and trust is the accelerator.

The Buffett Example - Warren Buffett offers one of the clearest real world examples of trust acting as an economic force. He has famously noted that some of Berkshire Hathaway’s acquisition agreements are only a page or two long. His logic is simple: when you’re dealing with people of character, complexity becomes unnecessary. Trust collapses friction. Legal costs drop. Time shrinks. Trust removes drag at every level.

Dividends and Taxes - The benefits of high trust are clear. High trust functions like a dividend–increased speed, reduced cost, higher profitability, and stronger relationships. The damaging impact of low trust is less obvious. Low trust functions like a tax. Not a one time fee, but a recurring, compounding burden paid quietly over time. In low trust environments, people don’t assume positive intent, they assume risk. Time is wasted not because people are lazy, but because systems are built to compensate for fear. Energy shifts from creating value to managing suspicion. Decisions take longer. Agreements cost more. Every interaction requires safeguards, legal reviews and approvals. The work still gets done, but it takes longer, and it costs more.

The Inheritance Tax: Worse yet… a low trust environment that is allowed to persist will not just function as a tax, it becomes an inheritance tax.

New leaders rarely start with a clean slate. They inherit cultures, assumptions, and reputations created by those who came before them. When mistrust exists—between management, employees and customers—it doesn’t disappear simply because there’s a new leader. The inheritance tax burdens future leaders long after the original actions are forgotten impacting growth and long-term success.

Trust Is Structural, Not Soft: For small businesses, trust is not soft—it’s structural. It isn’t: just a cultural nicety - it is economic infrastructure, a “soft skill” - it’s a hard economic driver, just good ethics - it’s good economics, or merely a value to believe in - it’s a strategic advantage to build and protect.

Jack Welch, former CEO of GE, once said about trust “You know it when you feel it”. But trust isn’t just what makes business feel better— it’s what makes business work better. And unlike market conditions or pandemic viruses, it is one variable you, as leaders, directly control. You are responsible for the dividend, or the tax, you leave behind.

LIBA studies and promotes these types of issues that are important to businesses and our community. If you have an interest in joining, please call LIBA at (402) 466-3419. Championing a Strong Business Climate for Lincoln

Jason Ball, President & CEO – Lincoln Chamber of Commerce

A strong, competitive business climate does not happen by chance. It is built through consistent advocacy, thoughtful policy and a clear focus on long-term growth. That commitment defines the Lincoln Chamber’s work during the 2026 Legislative Session, with Executive Vice President Bruce Bohrer leading the Chamber’s policy efforts at the Capitol. Through his leadership and our ongoing engagement, the Chamber is working to advance policies that strengthen our business community and ensure Lincoln’s long-term economic vitality.

This session, the Lincoln Chamber is advocating for enhancements to the Business Innovation Act to better support entrepreneurship and innovation across Nebraska. This effort is led by Senator Jason Prokop of Lincoln and Senator Teresa Ibach of Sumner and strengthened by compelling testimony from Brian Zimmer of Don’t Panic Labs and Eric Dinger of Powderhook. Their insights clearly underscored the importance of this legislation, and we are grateful for their leadership and support. We also appreciate Governor Jim Pillen’s office for taking a fresh look at the Business Innovation Act and recognizing its significance to Nebraska’s economic growth.

In addition, your Chamber supported the creation of Community Improvement Districts as a new tool for local investment, with special thanks to Nate McHargue of Olsson for his testimony. We continue to champion housing initiatives and streamlined development processes, which are critical to meeting workforce needs and maintaining competitiveness.

The Chamber also stood firmly in support of our private sector gas utility in the face of unfair competition and backed the creation of a state Economic Development Task Force to identify opportunities for growth across Nebraska. In addition, the Chamber supported the enabling of Pinnacle Bank Arena to add more seating by removing the statutory seating capacity, through Visit Lincoln Executive Director Jeff Maul providing testimony that reinforced the significant economic benefits major events bring to Lincoln’s tourism, hospitality and small business communities. Limiting the arena’s capacity reduces Lincoln’s competitiveness for high-profile events, diminishes visitor spending and weakens the city’s ability to position itself as a vibrant entertainment destination.

While advancing policies that support growth and competitiveness, the Chamber has also taken a firm stance against proposals that would place additional burdens on Nebraska businesses. In partnership with a broad coalition of business organizations, the Lincoln Chamber is opposing any proposals that increase sales taxes through the elimination of select exemptions and the expansion of sales tax to new services, including consulting. LB1244, carried by Senator Dave Murman of Glenvil at Governor Pillen’s request, was heard before the Revenue Committee on February 4. This approach risks placing disproportionate strain on urban businesses and workers while undermining economic competitiveness.

As the session progresses, the Chamber’s policy team will remain focused, engaged and proactive. Our work is rooted in one clear goal: advancing policies that support economic growth, foster innovation and protect a fair and competitive business climate. Through strong advocacy and member engagement, we will continue working to ensure Lincoln remains a place where businesses can thrive. We hope to see you at one of our monthly Policy Forums featuring legislative leaders during the session.

The Chamber of Commerce’s mission is to improve the lives of Lincoln residents by providing increased economic opportunity and can only be accomplished together. For more information, contact Derek Feyerherm atdfeyerherm@lincoln.org.

Painting at Parrish: A Sunday of Art, Music, and Play in Downtown Lincoln

Parrish Studios invited the community to do something wonderfully simple: come play. On Sunday, Feb. 1, the second floor of Parrish Studios transformed into a collaborative art space during Painting at Parrish, a hands-on, all-ages event centered around creativity, whimsy, and local culture.

Help Paint a Portal to Downtown Lincoln

The heart of the event was a brand-new mural installed in the elevator lobby. Designed by local artists, the mural served as a visual “portal” to Downtown Lincoln, featuring recognizable landmarks such as Memorial Hall’s Archie, the arena, Haymarket Tower Square, the Capitol, and Parrish Studios itself. Visitors helped bring the mural to life through a color-by-number painting experience. A few people painted at a time, rotating throughout the afternoon so everyone had a chance to participate.

While waiting for a turn at the mural, guests hung out in the adjacent UnCommon Gallery, where tables were stocked with art supplies. Attendees made itty-bitty art for the itty-bitty art machine, colored printed versions of the mural design, or simply enjoyed the freedom of making something without pressure.

“It doesn’t have to be good,” said Cinnamon Dokken, Parrish Studios manager. “There doesn’t have to be a goal. It’s about that childhood whimsy, just making things because it’s fun.”

Zines, Music, and Punk Curation

Adding to the vibe, the creators of Interobang, a local music zine, were on site. Known for their high-energy presence and lovingly old-school approach, Interobang is published monthly and features interviews and coverage of Lincoln’s music scene. They unveiled their newly installed, fully collaged zine cabinet in the Parrish UnCommon Space, located next to the piano. The setup operated on an honor system: take a zine from the top drawer, leave your quarters in the bottom drawer.

Ceramics, Bake Sale, and Supporting the Arts

Just off the UnCommon Gallery was The Garden, a large ceramic studio with windows facing O Street. They hosted a bake sale to support their programming and ongoing efforts to operate a full-size kiln in the space. The celebration didn’t stop upstairs. A Novel Idea bookstore was open (a special Sunday opening), local businesses throughout the building were open and welcomed visitors, and limited-edition Parrish Studio t-shirts, block prints, and mural stickers were available for purchase. Downstairs, food and drink specials rounded out the day:

• Bodega’s Alley: Lemon Love cocktail (similar to a Lemon Drop)

• Duffy’s: Irish Frog shot and Aperol Spritz

• George’s Gourmet Grill and Ali Baba Gyro: free drink with food purchase

A Building Full of Community

Parrish is home to independent businesses, artists, and makers, all local and deeply rooted in the Lincoln community.

Spring Cleaning

There is something in the air when spring rolls around. Everything looks a little dirtier. Your house. Your office space. Your car. Gosh — definitely your car.

With the shorter days and the holidays eclipsing two months’ worth of energy and motivation, there are bound to be things that fall through the cracks and things you start slacking on. As the weather gets warmer and we get brief stints

of summer air and sunshine, we start to see the build-up of stuff, gunk, and dirt from the months of winter. Those warmer days and weeks to come are the best time to get your spring cleaning checklist complete before summer starts up in full swing before you know it. Your business and home probably need some TLC. Lincoln businesses offer a variety of cleaning and maintenance services.

ServiceMaster Professional

Building Maintenance (SMPBM) of Lincoln partners with organizations of all sizes— from single offices as small as 3,000 square feet to multisite operations exceeding one million square feet—to create clean, safe, and productive environments for their employees and customers.

Supported by a growing team of over 150 professional cleaners, SMPBM helps businesses reset after the harsh winter months, when salt, grit, moisture, and debris are tracked indoors with every step. These contaminants don’t just affect appearance—they accelerate wear, increase slip hazards, and shorten the life of carpets and hard surface floors. Spring is the ideal time to protect your flooring investment.

From office buildings and industrial facilities to schools, healthcare spaces, and manufacturing sites, floors endure heavy daily traffic. Without proper care, carpets become embedded with dirt and allergens, while hard floors lose their protective finish and become dull, cracked, or slippery. Routine spring maintenance (such as deep carpet extraction, hard floor scrubbing, stripping, and refinishing) restores surfaces, improves indoor appearance, and helps prevent costly repairs or premature replacement.

Preparing your facility for the warmer months is more than cosmetic… it’s an investment in your people. Clean, well-maintained workspaces support safety, boost morale, and help employees stay focused and productive. A fresh environment also sends a strong message to customers, clients, and visitors about your commitment to professionalism and care.

SMPBM specializes in commercial cleaning solutions

Reid Morrow

designed to meet the unique needs of each facility. Services include comprehensive janitorial programs, deep cleaning for high-use or neglected areas, carpet and hard floor care, ceiling and wall cleaning, postconstruction cleanup, commercial kitchen cleaning, and targeted disinfection. Whether you manage a single location or a large, multi-building campus, SMPBM delivers consistent, reliable results.

This spring, let ServiceMaster Professional Building Maintenance of Lincoln help you protect your floors, enhance your space, and start the season clean, so your business can focus on what matters most.

If you’re like most of us, your car becomes your catch all during the winter. Stuff gets left in the car in pursuit of your hands staying in your coat pockets and passengers become lax when knocking off caked on snow and dirt from shoes, sloshing the muck into the backseat of your car.

Inside and out, our cars struggle during the winter. From mechanical problems to layers of snow and ice turning your bright blue car into a pale, grayish blue, winter makes it clear that keeping your car clean and maintained should be a priority as soon as the first

snowfall and freezing temperatures hit. Getting a car wash becomes essential in keeping the paint on your car untarnished or rusted. Once the weather warms up over the next couple months, we will be pleasantly greeted by Nebraskan mosquitoes and every other flying insect we thankfully forgot existed. These bugs will come out strong and fly directly in front of your car, giving your car its own custom paint job. Many regular drive-thru car washes can’t get all of this off and leave gunk on your car.

JetSplash has a more individualized approach. First they will power wash the wheels and wells in your car and spray specialty soap to help remove those sticky bugs. Their wash tunnel is equipped with the most up-to-date technology and products and guides your car through the wash. After the tunnel, featuring colored lights to give the experience a little extra excitement, employees will hand dry every vehicle that leaves, giving a spotless finish, not a streak or water spot in sight.

JetSplash also offers membership options designed to make regular vehicle maintenance simple and convenient for customers. Customers select a plan that fits their needs, and billing is handled automatically each month, with the flexibility to cancel at any time. JetSplash members also receive access to additional benefits, such as discounted wash upgrades, discounted Jet Gloss ceramic coating, access to the members-only After Care Area, use of an express members-only lane (with a Fast Pass purchase) and more!

After months of snow, salt, moisture, and heavy foot traffic, flooring often carries the hidden effects of winter well into spring. PureCare Carpet helps property owners move out of winter wear with professional cleaning services designed to protect flooring and improve overall indoor environments. With experience in both commercial and residential spaces, their team focuses on removing embedded dirt, salt residue, and allergens that accumulate during colder months when buildings stay closed up.

Cory Schlisner

If winter buildup is left untreated, it can lead to visible wear patterns, fiber damage, and shortened flooring lifespan—especially in entryways and high-traffic areas. Spring deep cleaning helps restore appearance while supporting long-term flooring performance.

PureCare Carpet offers services including commercial carpet maintenance, residential carpet cleaning, deep restorative cleaning, and targeted high-traffic treatments. As businesses and homeowners prepare for spring and summer activity, professional cleaning helps create cleaner, safer, and more welcoming spaces.

As busy parents get their kids through the last half of the school year, while preparing for tax season, a lull in activities for the kids and maybe a lull in your energy as well, upkeep on a home can get difficult for many and many can’t afford a consistent and quality cleaner.

Local proud mother of three, Coco Chairez began New Start Cleaning LLC to close this gap: making clean services accessible and affordable for all who need it.

They offer commercial cleaning for buildings and businesses with services of restroom sanitation, flooring cleaning, trash removal and washroom cleaning. With custom cleaning plans and schedules, they will fit their cleaning solutions to your businesses needs and budget.

New Start Cleaning also offers Move-In/Move-Out cleaning services, helping ease the stress of relocation by ensuring spaces are clean when leaving and movein ready upon arrival. Post-renovation cleaning is also available.

As part of spring cleaning, hard surfaces like natural stone floors and countertops often require more than routine cleaning to remove winter buildup and restore their appearance. Months of moisture, salt, and heavy traffic can dull finishes and wear down protective layers, making seasonal maintenance an important step in protecting long-term value.

Lifetime Stone Restoration specializes in cleaning, polishing, and sealing natural stone surfaces including marble, travertine, limestone, and granite, as well as manufactured materials like terrazzo. Their services extend beyond flooring to include stairs, countertops, walls, and even detailed restoration work on features like fountains and statues. The team also cleans tile

and grout, seals grout lines, repairs missing grout, and can even change grout color without the cost or disruption of full replacement. For tiled showers, services can include deep cleaning to remove soap and hard water buildup, grout sealing, caulking replacement, and mildew removal.

The company was founded after Don Mlnarik, the owner, recognized a gap in the local market for true stone restoration. After struggling to find professionals to repair and restore existing stone surfaces—and seeing specialized work outsourced outside the region—the business was built to provide local expertise focused specifically on restoring installed stone to like-new condition.

With proper seasonal maintenance and professional care, stone and tile surfaces can maintain their natural beauty while helping create cleaner, safer, and more polished environments heading into spring and beyond. Maid to Please has proudly served the Lincoln area

every major flooring

Coco Chairez
Don Mlnarik

since 1999 and is locally and veteran-owned and operated by Adam and Haley Cowan. Because the company is owned by community members, prices are affordable and services stay flexible to meet your specific cleaning needs. With free in-home estimates, the team can tailor a cleaning plan that fits your home, whether that’s routine maintenance cleanings or monthly deep cleans.

Knowing the right techniques and using the right products makes all the difference, saving time, energy, cleaning supplies, and maybe even a little sanity. Areas like baseboards and hidden cobwebs are easy to miss, especially in hard-to-see or hard-to-reach spots. Ceiling fans can spread dust throughout the home if forgotten, and ovens, refrigerators, and windows (inside and out) often get skipped. These are the places where dirt and bacteria hide, the exact things you want gone before heading into summer.

A cleaning company is made top-notch by a lot of factors, but reliable, consistent employees are at the

top of the list. Maid to Please prioritizes this through random drug testing, background checks, and yearly evaluations to ensure professionalism and consistency, so your first clean is just as good as your most recent clean. They have strong employee retention—something that can be challenging in the cleaning industry. Many technicians stay long-term, allowing them to become familiar with specific clients’ homes, which improves cleaning quality over time. Customers also appreciate seeing familiar, trusted faces in their homes. All employees are bonded, insured, and covered by workers’ compensation insurance for added peace of mind.

Take the guesswork—and let’s be honest, the scrubbing—out of spring cleaning and let the Maid to Please team handle it for you.

There is no better way to transition into spring weather than with truly leaving the muck and dirt of winter behind. Reset the whole house. Do the projects you’ve been putting off. Get the cleaning crew in here. Address the car that became your daily catch all for months. Hire the office cleaning company for your employees. Get it clean!

TECHNOLOGY

As technology continues to evolve faster than ever before, business owners are finding that staying competitive means more than keeping up, it means constantly adapting and evolving. From cybersecurity threats and technology investments to shifting digital strategies and everyday communication challenges, the modern business landscape is not getting easier.

Things that at one point might have been optional are now essential. This is forcing business owners to try to navigate new tools and trends while also taking on new risks. This is hard to balance as businesses try to do their job by focusing on growth and customer relationships. But it doesn’t have to feel be so lonely and overwhelming because there are businesses that want to help! Their primary goal is to help you get back to focusing on what matters, your business and your customers.

Looking ahead to 2026, businesses will face new technology challenges, and keeping up with rapid advancement, along with growing security threats, continues to be one of the biggest concerns for business owners. The three primary challenges Hamilton Business Technologies is seeing Nebraska businesses face right now are cybersecurity risks, pressure to digitally transform, and increasing compliance requirements. Ransomware and phishing attacks are increasingly targeting small and mid-sized businesses, many of which don’t have the internal resources for dedicated security teams.

Technology is the backbone of modern business, and Hamilton Business Technologies helps organizations use it smarter, safer, and more efficiently. By building trusted relationships and delivering forward-thinking technology solutions, Hamilton gives businesses the confidence and support they need to stay connected, protected, and positioned for growth. With expert technicians and responsive service, companies can spend less time worrying about IT and more time focusing on what they do best—running and expanding their operations.

From fully managed IT services to communications planning, system support, and implementation, Hamilton helps streamline business technology from end to end. Their team works with both public and private organizations, designing scalable solutions that support daily operations, strengthen cybersecurity, and keep teams connected regardless of size, industry, or complexity.

At the same time, companies know they need to modernize to stay competitive but aren’t always sure where to start or how to budget for it. Industries like healthcare and finance also face growing regulatory demands around data protection. Managing active IT threats, evolving technology needs, and stricter compliance standards can feel overwhelming, but the right technology partner can help solve these challenges.

When it comes to managed IT and proactive support, Hamilton

Business Technologies focuses on prevention before a crisis occurs. Proactive monitoring helps catch issues before they cause downtime, which can cost businesses thousands in lost productivity and revenue. Studies show proactive maintenance can reduce system downtime by 30–50%. Beyond prevention, strategic planning turns IT from a reactive expense into a true business enabler through planned upgrades and long-term technology roadmaps.

Advanced IT controls can also help prevent security breaches that could cost hundreds of thousands in remediation, legal fees, and reputation damage.

Technology shouldn’t be treated as just an expense. It should be viewed as both protection and investment. When implemented strategically, technology not only protects your business but helps position it for long-term growth.

Across Nebraska, businesses are relying more than ever on strong, dependable connectivity to keep operations moving. From rural

Ryan Wineteer

communities to growing metro areas, reliable fiber internet has become a critical part of how companies serve customers, support employees, and stay competitive. ALLO is helping Nebraska businesses build that foundation by delivering fiber-optic connectivity paired with technology solutions designed for real-world business needs.

For many organizations, strong connectivity is about more than fast internet speeds. It’s about consistency, scalability, and the ability to support the tools teams rely on every day. Whether it’s cloud-based software, remote work capabilities, video meetings, or multi-location operations, businesses need networks that can grow alongside them. ALLO works with businesses to understand how they operate and helps design connectivity and technology solutions that support both daily productivity and long-term growth.

Looking ahead, the next major shift for businesses will be the growing intersection of artificial intelligence and cybersecurity. Many small and mid-sized businesses are still early in their AI adoption, often experimenting with tools for marketing, customer communication, or workflow efficiency. At the same time, AI is rapidly changing the threat landscape. Cybercriminals are using AI to create scams that are more convincing and harder to detect, with email phishing continuing to be one of the most common threats facing businesses today.

As a result, cybersecurity is becoming less of an IT concern and more of a business continuity priority. Companies are placing greater emphasis on employee training, proactive monitoring, and stronger internal security policies to help prevent disruptions and protect customer trust.

A major differentiator for ALLO is its 100% fiber network. Unlike legacy copper or hybrid systems, fiber delivers symmetrical upload

and download speeds, which is especially important for businesses using cloud applications, transferring large files, hosting data, or running VoIP systems. Fiber infrastructure also offers greater reliability, with less susceptibility to weather-related interference or signal degradation — helping businesses maintain consistent uptime. ALLO complements its fiber infrastructure with full-service technology support, including cybersecurity guidance and proactive network monitoring. With local teams embedded in the communities they serve, businesses work directly with experts who understand regional markets and can respond quickly when support is needed.

As Nebraska businesses continue to evolve, having the right connectivity partner helps remove technology roadblocks and creates opportunities for growth while reducing frustration for employees and customers. By combining fiber infrastructure with forward-looking technology solutions, ALLO helps organizations focus less on their systems and more on where they want to go next.

The rapid pace of new tools, platforms, and systems can feel overwhelming for business owners who are already balancing day-to-day operations. The good news is there are experienced professionals who focus on helping businesses make sense of it all and use technology in ways that actually save time and reduce stress. One of those resources is Kim Hazelton , system strategist at Alpha Zed Business Services.

One of the biggest pieces of advice Kim shares with business owners is to simplify wherever possible.

“So many business owners start out cobbling together a hodgepodge of tools to handle different aspects of daily operations. It doesn’t take long for things to start falling through the cracks because data is entered multiple times (increasing the chance for errors in data entry), tools don’t talk to each other, and it’s just a challenge to remember what tool does what,” Kim explains.

“I help streamline and create a single, reliable, customized solution that works in a manner that gives the business owner peace of mind.” Platforms that combine CRM management, email marketing, online ordering, and automation tools can help eliminate duplicate work and create smoother client experiences. Often described as the “duct tape” that keeps tools and systems working together, Alpha Zed streamlines scattered processes into one cohesive platform.

When automation is implemented correctly, these systems allow business owners to stay focused on serving clients and growing their business instead of managing repetitive tasks.

“I frequently talk with folks who manually send out follow-up emails requesting more detailed information after an appointment is booked. It’s so much more efficient to automate that process, so that based on what type of appointment it is, the correct email/form/ questionnaire goes out automatically. That saves the client time, as well as ensuring that the customer knows that they are important.”

Staying informed about technology updates and improvements is also key. Working with someone who actively tracks platform updates and evolving tools can help businesses stay current without needing to research and test every new feature themselves. This person is Kim Hazelton.

At its core, Alpha Zed Business Services focuses on helping business owners feel confident using technology and managing their business systems effectively. The goal is to remove the burden of complicated back-office processes so entrepreneurs can focus on sharing their expertise and growing their businesses.

As businesses become more dependent on technology to run daily operations, risk management has shifted far beyond locked doors and alarm systems. Today, protecting a business means understanding how digital systems, employee workflows, and customer data all intersect. Panology Tech Solutions works with businesses to build practical,

Kim Hazelton

right-sized protection strategies that support operations without creating unnecessary complexity or cost.

Many business owners know security matters, but the challenge is knowing where to start. The technology landscape changes quickly, and threats don’t target only large corporations anymore.

Small and mid-sized businesses are often attractive targets because they may not have dedicated internal IT or security teams. Panology focuses on helping organizations understand their risk exposure first, then building protection strategies that align with how the business actually operates.

Rather than relying on a single tool or software solution, modern protection requires multiple safeguards working together. Devices, networks, email systems, data storage, and even employee behavior all play a role in keeping a business secure. Panology helps businesses implement technology solutions that work across these areas, creating a stronger overall technology foundation while still keeping systems easy for employees to use day to day.

As technology continues to evolve, businesses need solutions that can grow and adapt with them. Panology works alongside clients as a long-term technology partner, helping them adjust systems, strengthen protections, and make informed technology decisions that support both stability and future growth.

Parse Software develops applications and programs with change in mind, because most businesses evolve faster than their software does. Instead of building large, rigid systems, they focus on modular architectures that can grow over time. Their goal is to build software that’s easy to maintain, extend and adapt. Whether a client is a startup or an established organization, they design scalable solutions that support the next stage or growth rather than forcing a rebuild down the road.

One of the biggest challenges businesses face with custom software is not knowing what they actually need. Many companies are sold expensive, overbuilt systems or tools that don’t integrate with their existing processes.

Parse Software works directly with leadership teams to understand their operations, goals, and constraints before recommending any technology. Sometimes the right answer is a custom application. Other times it’s adapting an existing tool or connecting systems that already exist.

Their role is to act like an in-house development team. They help clients make practical decisions about things like integrations, cloud hosting, and whether a web or mobile app makes the most sense. The focus is always on building the right solution for the business, not the most complex one.

They regularly test new technologies internally and evaluate them against real business use cases. If a new framework, cloud service, or AI capability can meaningfully improve performance, reduce costs or simplify operations, they incorporate it. With developments and programs built for different industries, they are constantly exposed to different systems, challenges and integrations. With this diverse experience, they can easily identify which technologies are worth it and which ones are better suited for another.

The reality for businesses today is that technology is no longer something that sits in the background. It impacts how teams communicate, how data is protected, how customers interact with companies, and how leadership plans for growth. The pace of change is not slowing down, and for many businesses the challenge is not just keeping up with technology, it is knowing which technology actually

makes sense for their operation.

The encouraging news is that Nebraska businesses are not navigating these changes alone. Across the state, technology partners are stepping into roles that go far beyond installation and troubleshooting. They are helping businesses build long term strategies, reduce risk, improve efficiency, and create systems that support both employees and customers. Whether that means strengthening cybersecurity protections, building reliable connectivity infrastructure, simplifying back office workflows, developing custom software, or creating layered protection strategies, the goal is the same. It is about helping businesses operate with confidence.

What is becoming clear is that the businesses positioned for success over the next several years will not necessarily be the ones with the most technology, but the ones using technology with purpose. Thoughtful implementation, strong infrastructure, and the right guidance can turn technology from a source of frustration into a real competitive advantage.

For business owners, that shift matters. Instead of constantly reacting to new tools, new threats, and new systems, they can focus on building stronger teams, serving customers well, and growing their organizations in meaningful ways. When technology is approached strategically, it becomes less about fixing problems and more about creating opportunities.

As innovation continues to accelerate, from artificial intelligence tools to cloud based systems and increasingly connected environments, one thing remains constant. Businesses still run on relationships, trust, and smart decision making. The right technology partners do not replace those values. They strengthen them.

The future of business technology is not about removing the human element. It is about giving businesses the tools, support, and confidence they need to move forward securely, efficiently, and ready for whatever comes next.

Construction can often serve as an indicator of confidence and growth within a community. Here in Nebraska, development continues to reflect steady expansion and long-term investment in our state’s future. New construction brings opportunities for businesses to grow while attracting people and industries that continue to strengthen our communities each year. Particularly in Lincoln, Nebraska, a city shaped by diverse industries and generations, continued development supports both economic momentum and evolving community needs.

Construction plays an important role in shaping how

companies operate and how they serve customers, influencing everything from functionality to accessibility and long-term efficiency. Commercial construction, in particular, reflects investment in future growth rather than short-term gains. As technology continues to advance, construction and engineering professionals are adapting to new trends, innovative building methods, and changing expectations within the industry. In this feature, readers will hear from commercial construction professionals across the areas that are helping shape the future of development in our community.

Founded in 1999, Tru-Built Construction is celebrating 26 years of building high-end residential and commercial projects throughout Lincoln and the surrounding communities. From large custom homes to complex commercial and multi-family developments, Tru-Built has built its reputation on craftsmanship, clear communication, and long-term value.

What sets Tru-Built apart is its ability to successfully manage both new construction and remodeling projects. This dual expertise allows the team to approach projects with flexibility and problemsolving experience whether starting from the ground up or working within existing structures. Clients choose Tru-Built for its hands-on project management, realistic cost-plus budgeting, and commitment to delivering a finished product that performs well for years to come.

Currently, Tru-Built is working on two major apartment developments: the third phase of Aristos Apartments near 40th and Yankee Hill, and Aristos at Waterford, a multi-year project that will ultimately include over 500 apartment units designed around two large central courtyards. These projects highlight Tru-Built’s capacity to handle large-scale developments while continuing to serve custom residential and commercial clients.

After more than two decades in business, Tru-Built Construction remains focused on building quality spaces and lasting relationships.

What truly sets them apart is their commitment to relationships and accountability. Many of their employees, subcontractors, and clients have worked with them for decades. That longevity speaks to the trust they have built and the consistency they bring to every project.

Clients choose Schwisow Construction because they want a partner they can trust. They don’t just build structures; they build confidence through transparency, reliability, and consistent execution. Their experienced team works closely with owners, architects, and trade partners to deliver projects safely, on time, and with the level of quality that their clients expect. When clients work with Schwisow Construction, they know they’re getting a contractor who is invested in their success long after the project is complete.

Schwisow Construction specializes in commercial, manufacturing, and industrial construction. For over 40 years, they have built a strong reputation for quality workmanship, exceptional service, and a deep commitment to the communities we serve across Nebraska and surrounding states.

Schwisow Construction is currently involved in several new and ongoing projects across a variety of industries. Their active work includes work for D&D Refuse, Inland Truck Parts, Omaha Steaks, Klute, and Hope Village. These projects highlight their experience working with both long-standing clients and new partners.

ABC Electric then provides a clear, itemized estimate. Once work is complete, a final walkthrough ensures everything meets expectations and safety standards of their clients.

While each company brings a different specialty to the table, they all share one thing in common: they are helping physically shape the future of Lincoln.

That work is happening alongside a larger wave of commercial expansion and economic investment happening across the city. When you zoom out from individual projects and look at the broader

Pat Kileen

market data, the scale of growth happening in Lincoln becomes even more clear. From large-scale technology investments and healthcare expansion to retail development and infrastructure improvements, Lincoln continues to position itself as a community built for long-term, sustainable growth. If you want to understand how Lincoln is growing, you don’t have to look much further than our skyline, business parks, and expanding commercial corridors. The Lincoln Partnership for Economic Development releases an annual business report that consistently reinforces what many of us working closely with local businesses see every day—Lincoln’s economy is growing, industries are diversifying, and investments remains strong. That kind of growth doesn’t happen in a vacuum. As companies expand, facilities, infrastructure, and commercial spaces must grow right alongside them.

Right now, planned commercial expansion in Lincoln represents a potential $689.1 million in total investment. That includes 13 new facilities and 12 planned renovations or expansions, signaling not just new business attraction, but also reinvestment from companies already rooted in our community.

Lincoln isn’t just attracting attention from outside organizations, it’s also supporting the success and growth of the businesses that already call this city home.

Construction activity across Lincoln continues to reflect that momentum. In the last fiscal year alone, the City of Lincoln issued more than 32,000 building permits. That number represents a massive amount of construction activity across residential, infrastructure, and commercial industries. While there isn’t a single published number for completed commercial structures specifically, the permit amount points to sustained, measurable developments that continues to shape the city’s physical and economic landscape. Some of the most visible commercial growth is happening in large-scale technology and data infrastructure. One of the most notable examples is Google’s 775,000-square-foot data center development, which is expected to be complete in 2025. Projects like this don’t just create construction jobs—they generate long-term operational jobs, vendor partnerships, and supporting infrastructure improvements that ripple throughout the local economy.

Retail and mixed-use commercial development is also expanding, particularly in high-growth areas of the city. North Star Crossing, a 50-acre shopping center development in Northwest Lincoln, has already sold 75% of its land to business retailers as of mid2025.. At the same time, local development groups are continuing to invest in flexible business space, such as the 10,000-square-foot flex building being constructed by Krueger Development at Yankee Hill Business Center. Additional smaller-scale office and commercial projects are also moving forward, including 12 planned buildings at Highland Office Park near Northwest 1st Street and West Harvest Drive.

Healthcare and industrial construction remain major drivers of commercial growth as well. Bryan Health is investing in a new 140,000-square-foot cancer center, expanding access to specialized care while creating significant construction and healthcare employment opportunities. Industrial capacity is also increasing with Norland International building a new 18,000-square-foot warehouse. Even specialty-use facilities are expanding, such as the 11,000-squarefoot Lincoln Lutheran Warrior Wellness Center athletic training facility currently under construction. Beyond individual commercial projects, the city is continuing to invest in foundational infrastructure. Lincoln had 19 major construction projects planned for summer 2025 alone, reinforcing the city’s longterm strategy of supporting business growth through transportation, utility, and roadway improvements.

Like most markets, Lincoln is not completely immune to broader national commercial real estate trends. Office vacancy rates were approximately 7.6% in mid-2023, reflecting shifts toward hybrid work models and evolving office space needs. Even so, Lincoln’s overall commercial construction pipeline remains strong, with development continuing across healthcare, industrial, retail, technology, and mixeduse sectors.

What makes Lincoln’s growth story unique is its consistency and sustainability. Development here isn’t built on sudden spikes, it’s built on steady investment, strong public-private partnerships, and a business community that continues to choose Lincoln as a place to grow, expand, and innovate. As commercial development continues to move forward, one thing is clear: Lincoln’s future is quite literally being built in real time.
