May is a season of momentum. The days are longer, the energy is higher, and across our community you can feel businesses building, growing, and moving forward.
This month, we’re proud to feature two themes that reflect that momentum: Women’s Health and Creating Your Dream Home.
Our Women’s Health feature highlights the professionals and organizations dedicated to supporting the well-being of women at every stage of life. From preventative care to specialized services, these providers play a vital role in strengthening not only individual lives, but families and our community as a whole. Their work is a powerful reminder that investing in health is one of the most important decisions we can make.
importantly, we help ensure they are not only seen—but found. In today’s marketplace, visibility is everything. It’s no longer enough to simply be a great business—you must show up where people are searching. That’s why every feature, press release, and spotlight we publish is supported by a powerful digital backbone, including strategic website placement, highauthority backlinks, and consistent search engine visibility.
Since 2016, we’ve built a platform with over 60,000 pieces of client-centered content, helping drive millions of impressions and ensuring the businesses we feature are positioned not just in print—but across Google and AI-driven search.
“In today’s marketplace, visibility is everything.”
At the same time, May is the perfect time to think about home. Whether you’re building, remodeling, or planning for the future, your home is one of the most meaningful investments you will ever make. It’s where life happens, where families gather, and where your vision becomes reality.
At Strictly Business, we are honored to work alongside the professionals who make both of these journeys possible. But more
Print builds awareness.
Digital builds discoverability.
Together, they build credibility—and results.
As you read through this issue, I encourage you to support the businesses you see here. Reach out, make a connection, and don’t forget to mention Strictly Business when you do. Here’s to building—healthy lives, strong homes, and a stronger community.

On this month’s cover, YOUniq Health is featured in recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, which is a time that is traditionally set aside to elevate conversations that reduce stigma about mental health and encourage individuals to seek care. Founded in 2018 by Dr. Amarachi Ogbonnaya-Akpa, DNP, APRN, YOUniq Health serves individuals dealing with a wide range of behavioral, psychiatric and mental health conditions.
YOUniq Health is part of a growing shift toward a care model that does not view mental health in isolation but as part of an interconnected body system. Mental health disorders such as anxiety, depression, and chronic stress are increasingly understood to be influenced by physiological processes and environmental stressors. Treating symptoms of mental disorders without addressing these underlying drivers often leads to incomplete or short-lived results.
Equally important is the human experience of care. Listening is treated as a clinical skill at YOUniq Health, which ensures that each patient’s story informs decision-making and guides treatment direction. Instead of defaulting to a one-size-fits-all solution, clinicians at YOUniq Health take an individualized approach. The goal is not just to manage symptoms, but to deliver care that reflects the full complexity of human health and achieve long-term stability and overall health.
The clinic also integrates technology with clinical intent. Therapies such as Exomind—an innovative transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) device—alongside other datainformed interventions, are used to support brain function and system regulation as clinically appropriate. These tools are not positioned as standalone solutions, but as components of a coordinated treatment strategy ensuring they contribute to meaningful, sustained improvement.

As Mental Health Awareness Month invites reflection, YOUniq Health represents a move beyond awareness toward action. By aligning care with the complexity of human health, the clinic is helping redefine what effective mental health treatment can look like—personalized, integrated, and built around the whole person.
That commitment to precision and connection is what sets YOUniq Health apart.

K2 Holistic Health was founded on the idea of treating the root cause of an issue, rather than addressing just the isolated symptoms. Jason Howe, the CEO of K2 Holistic Health, stated, “Our name was very intentional. Our biggest passion is to help patients regain their Kinetics (movement) and their Kinesthetics (the neurology behind the movement). We do this by taking the best of the medical world, physical therapy world and chiropractic world, and integrating them all into one collaborative team that works together for each of our patients.”
In addition to treating orthopedic and neuropathy issues, one key concept to K2 Holistic Health is how peptide therapy is changing healthcare. K2 believes that virtually all of human pathology is the final result of a very simple process: pathogens, poor diet and sedentary lifestyle, all leading to the three physiological failures of systemic inflammation, insulin resistance and mitochondrial dysfunction. K2 Holistic Health offers medical grade peptides with physician oversight to specifically target these very causes and failures, so they can reverse symptoms like fatigue, weakness, weight gain, poor sleep, cognitive decline and mood regulation problems. There are no pushy sales tactics. There is just straightforward access to the best peptides from local medical professionals who specialize in this field, with labs and follow-up visits to ensure your best care. Alpha Zed Services is continuing to expand its Estate Information Portfolio services with added support for digital asset organization and newly available notary services as part of the overall process.

As more financial, personal, and business activity moves online, digital access has become one of the most common gaps in estate and incapacity planning. Online banking, subscription services, cloud storage and account logins are often known only to the individual, making it difficult for others to step in when needed.
The Estate Information Portfolio includes a structured approach to documenting digital accounts, access points and related instructions in a way that is organized and usable, without compromising security.
Recent client feedback from initial audit sessions has highlighted the value of having an objective, non-judgmental review process. Even individuals who consider themselves organized have identified missing details, gaps in documentation or information that would be difficult for others to locate under pressure.
The addition of notary services allows certain documents to be completed and finalized more efficiently as part of the overall engagement, reducing the need for clients to coordinate multiple steps on their own. Alpha Zed Services does not provide legal advice or draft legal documents. The focus remains on organization, clarity and practical structure — ensuring that essential information is accessible when it is needed.

For most people, taxes aren’t something you think about until they start to feel… heavy.
And lately, in Nebraska, that’s been the reality. Property valuations keep rising, and with that, so do tax bills. For homeowners, farmers and business owners, it’s not just frustrating, it’s becoming unsustainable.
That’s where the EPIC Option comes in.

At its core, the EPIC Option is a proposal to completely change how Nebraska collects taxes. It would eliminate property taxes, income taxes and inheritance taxes, and shift the system to rely mostly on sales and excise taxes instead. That’s a big shift. And it’s why people are paying attention.
On a practical level, it would change how and when you’re taxed. Instead of being taxed on what you earn or own, you’d be taxed more on what you spend. For many, especially those feeling the pressure of rising property taxes, that idea brings a sense of relief.
Property taxes have been one of the biggest concerns. In some areas, valuations have jumped significantly over the past few years, increasing the financial strain on people just trying to maintain what they already have.
But the impact goes beyond individual tax bills. Supporters believe removing income and property taxes could make Nebraska more competitive, helping attract businesses, keep workers here and support long-term growth.
At the same time, this isn’t a small adjustment. It’s a full reset of how the state funds things like schools, roads, and local services. When a change is this big, it naturally raises questions about how everything balances out and that’s part of why this matters.
The EPIC Option isn’t something being decided behind closed doors. It’s a ballot initiative, which means Nebraskans themselves would vote on it. Right now, the focus is on gathering signatures and building support, with plans to bring it back for a future ballot.
So whether you’re for it, against it or just trying to understand it, this is one of those issues that directly affects how people live, work and plan for the future here.
Because at the end of the day, this isn’t just about taxes.
It’s about what’s sustainable and what kind of system works for us and our neighbors.

After three and a half years of cultivating a love for literacy in Lincoln, Elleinad Books is turning the page on a new chapter. The independent children’s bookstore has relocated to a high-visibility storefront at 48th and Prescott Avenue, placing it in the heart of the vibrant College View neighborhood.

The April 25 move brings the shop closer to local staples like The Mill and Paper Kite, providing the foot traffic necessary for longterm sustainability. Founded by Danielle Eby, a mother of three and former stay-at-home mom, the store is designed as a community hub where families can “just chill” and explore stories away from the overstimulation of big-box retailers.
“I want that nine-year-old boy to remember twenty years from now that he went to the bookstore with his mom every month and found a story that changed him,” Danielle shared.
Elleinad Books is celebrated for its “no licensed characters” policy, prioritizing unique, high-quality titles that spark a child’s imagination. The new location will feature expanded hours, including Sundays (10 a.m. – 2 p.m.) to coincide with the College View Farmers Market.
Key Dates:
• Ribbon Cutting: May 28 at 4 p.m.
• Statewide Bookstore Trail: Launching June 1

Lincoln Airport (LNK) has enhanced its website with integrated travel planning tools designed to make it easier for travelers to compare options and book flights directly from their hometown airport.

Visitors to LincolnAirport.com can now search for available routes, review schedules, and book flights directly from LNK using an integrated FlyMyAirport® booking platform. Unlike third-party travel sites that default to larger airports, the tool sets Lincoln as the departure point, allowing travelers to see what is available close to home.
In addition to the booking platform, Lincoln Airport has partnered with Strategic Knowledge, an aviation data analytics firm, to launch an online cost comparison calculator available on the airport’s home page. The tool provides side-by-side comparisons between flying from LNK and driving to Eppley Airfield in Omaha or Kansas City International Airport. By factoring in mileage, fuel, parking, and time value, travelers can see the full cost of starting their trip outside Lincoln.
Scott Thompson, President of Strategic Knowledge, said the calculator was designed specifically to support Lincoln’s air service strategy.
“We created this calculator to provide a comprehensive view of travel costs for the Lincoln community,” Thompson said. “When travelers evaluate mileage, parking expenses, and the value of their time alongside airfare, they often discover that flying from LNK is both efficient and cost effective.”
Travelers can explore the booking platform and cost calculator at LincolnAirport.com.

For Bayley, real estate is far more than a profession; it’s a lifelong mission to honor a standard of excellence. After losing her mother, Mary Brake, at age nine, Bayley grew up profoundly shaped by the integrity and trust that her parents built over a 50-year legacy at Woods Bros Realty. Today, she carries that torch forward, supported by her father, Gene Brake—Chairman Emeritus at HomeServices of Nebraska.

While her foundation is rooted in family tradition, Bayley’s professional edge was forged in the world of high-stakes finance. After earning both her Accounting degree and a Master’s in Finance from UNL in under four years, she transitioned to the global stage. There, she supported a $21.4B portfolio and contributed to an $835 million resort sale—one of the largest singleasset transactions in U.S. history.
Today, Bayley’s focus is serving the community where her roots run deepest. Whether navigating a first home purchase, a complex commercial venture, or a new construction project, she uses her financial background to ensure her clients’ investments are sound and their futures are secure. By blending her parents’ wisdom with a modern, data-driven strategy, Bayley provides a level of guidance that is as personal as it is precise. The Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department, through its HazToGo program, has partnered with a federally licensed contractor to provide periodic collection of business-generated hazardous waste at volume pricing.
The next event will be Thursday, May 14. You must have an appointment to participate in this event.
This program reduces barriers for businesses to properly manage their hazardous waste. HazToGo bridges the gap for businesses to work with a hazardous waste contractor and access waste disposal at reduced costs.
Businesses that generate low volumes of regulated hazardous wastes such as medical offices, dental offices, print shops, auto shops, school systems, general contractors, non-profits, painters, churches, childcare centers, and home occupations may find this event helpful for managing their waste.
Examples of wastes that are accepted include: Aerosols, corrosives, pesticides, flammable solids or liquids, adhesives, asbestos, mercury, poisons, paint, solvents, cylinders, oxidizers, photo fluids, PCB ballasts and mineral spirits.
Please note radioactive materials, explosives, and biohazards/ infectious waste are NOT accepted.
If you are a business in Lancaster County and want to take advantage of this program, contact the event coordinator today at (402) 4418002 or spwaste@lincoln.ne.gov.

The Warrior Wellness Center at Lincoln Lutheran is now complete, adding a valuable new space designed to support student wellness, education and growth. Located near the Warrior Center for Athletic Performance, the approximately 11,000-square-foot facility includes two classrooms dedicated to athletic education along with support offices that will serve students and staff for years to come.
This project reflects Lincoln Lutheran’s continued investment in creating spaces that strengthen both learning and student development. Designed to complement the existing campus, the Warrior Wellness Center expands opportunities for students while reinforcing the school’s commitment to whole-person wellness.
Schwisow Construction was proud to partner with Lincoln Lutheran on this important addition and help bring their vision to life. From early coordination through final completion, the project was built with a focus on quality, communication, and delivering a finished space that will make a lasting impact on the school community.
“When we began the process to build the Warrior Wellness Center, we focused on partnering with a construction company that could provide proven quality, professionalism and competitive pricing. Schwisow knocked it out of the park with all of these values and completed our project in less than 6 months. Lincoln Lutheran was blessed to have partnered with Schwisow in this project!” said Dan Masters.

Blur Events announces a new focus for its 13th annual Sip Nebraska Spring Festival: the event’s growing economic impact across the state and its continued partnership with Bravo Zulu Adventure Group, a veteran founded nonprofit supporting first responders, healthcare workers, and their families.

Sip Nebraska has become a significant driver of tourism and small business revenue, drawing thousands of attendees to Mahoney State Park each spring. With more than 24 breweries, wineries, cideries, and distilleries participating, the festival generates meaningful sales for Nebraska makers — many of whom travel from rural communities such as Scottsbluff, Imperial, and Syracuse.
“Every year, Sip Nebraska brings together small businesses from across the state, and the economic ripple effect is real,” said Stacy Leners, founder of Blur Events. “From lodging at one of Nebraska’s largest state parks, Eugene T. Mahoney, to food trucks, artisans, and beverage producers, this festival fuels local revenue while giving Nebraskans a chance to support homegrown makers.”
At the heart of this year’s event is Bravo Zulu Adventure Group, returning for its second year. Founded by veterans, the nonprofit provides outdoor adventures and community events for first responders and healthcare workers — groups that often face high stress and burnout. Sip Nebraska will feature Bravo Zulu’s skydiving demonstrations, and opportunities for attendees to meet the team behind the organization.
The festival runs Friday, May 8, 4–9 p.m., and Saturday, May 9, 1–9 p.m. (Early Access at 11 a.m.). Tickets and full details are available at blurevents.com. Lodging at Mahoney State Park is available. Sponsorships remain open; contact (402) 882-2448.

With the changing of the seasons, Sumner Place is embracing the spring weather filled with fun activities to keep everyone busy. They are so excited to provide a mix of both outside and inside activities. Sumner Place would like to share some of the activities staff and residents participated in.

For Earth Day, Sumner Place had a plant show where team members and residents showed off their houseplants and gave tips and tricks on achieving a green thumb. At the end of the plant show, everyone got a mini plant to take: ferns and succulents were a hit.
Sumner Place recently held their annual Spelling Bee, focusing on the St. Patrick’s Day holiday as the theme. A mix of familiar and challenging words with the Irish themes at play made the Spelling Bee so unique this year. For the first time, they had a tie, meaning double winners took home the title of Sumner Place Spelling Bee Champion.
Of course, during the Easter holiday Sumner Place has a visit from the Easter bunny and an outside egg hunt. Children from the surrounding Sumner Place Community area were invited to participate in the egg hunt and see the Easter bunny.
They look forward to their next large event, which is their annual senior prom. This year’s theme is under the sea, equipped with professional photos for residents and their loved ones, live music, dancing and refreshments.
Please see updates weekly on their Facebook page to see what the Sumner Place community is up to, or stop in for a tour with their Admission’s Coordinator Janessa if your loved one is in need of long term skilled nursing care. You can also visit sumnerplacecare.com for more information.

Spring is a popular time to get married. Investigating how marriage will change the new couple’s health insurance is critical.
If both bride and groom are under the age of 26, it is possible that both parties will continue to be covered through their parents’ employer coverage. If the parents’ monthly premiums and annual max out of pocket are both low, this could be the most cost-effective coverage solution.

The new bride and groom could also have separate coverages. Aside from remaining on a parent’s plan, the other coverage options could be a plan through their school, their own employer or a short-term plan. Starting or continuing with the Marketplace is also a possibility, but managing the new household income amount will be an important consideration. Let’s talk about Bryson and Maddie who are getting married in June.
Maddie is 25 and plans to stay on the family plan through her mom’s employer. Bryson is 23 and has a Marketplace plan. When he enrolled last fall, he estimated his 2026 household income to be $24,000 for 2026 because he was still working a part-time job while finishing his degree.
Once they get married in June, Bryson will need to update his Marketplace application to include Maddie’s income, even though she will not join him on the Marketplace plan.
Because Maddie graduated earlier and plans to earn $50,000 this year, Bryson’s household income will now increase to $74,000. The benefits of the Silver level plan that he started in January, costing $100/month with a $2,200 max out of pocket, would now “slide” to match his new household income.
This same Silver plan would now cost over $500/month and have an $8,900 deductible. The new couple would also be liable for paying back the first five months of tax credit totaling roughly $2,500 on their joint tax return in the spring of 2027.
A different strategy for 2026 may have been for Bryson to choose a $0 Bronze plan for the beginning of the year and then plan for a premium jump of just $400/month in July. Then he would have no outstanding tax liability for the 2026 tax year. He also could have opted for a non-Marketplace plan whose premium didn’t depend on the size of his tax household or income.
Let the licensed agents at On Point Insurance Agency help pave the way for a smooth start to the couple’s new married life.

Daniel Schmidt is the Owner of HobbyTown.

Tell us a little about your business. - HobbyTown is a brick and mortar toy store featuring “toys for all ages”. We are a full line hobby, toy and game store and have a huge variety of fun things to keep you busy.
How did you get started in the business? - I was hired as a sales clerk at the East Park location in July of 2000. I became the manager of that location and eventually moved to the Corporate HobbyTown Office to help in the training of new franchise owners. In 2006, my wife Chelsy and I purchased the Corporate-owned location at Southpointe and became independent business owners. What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? - The 2008 recession was the most challenging time of ownership for us. Sales in some categories dropped more than 50% in less than six months. Our business dramatically changed and we were forced to diversify our product mix quickly or we would have closed. It was an incredibly stressful time and we were still very young and didn’t have any experience navigating a major economic catastrophe like that.

What has been your most important achievement professionally? Our HobbyTown, here in Lincoln, was the recipient of the National Retail Federation “Retail Champion” in 2022, a national award.
Tell us a little about your family. - Chelsy is my wonderful wife and trusted partner in the business. We were married in 2005. We currently have Chloe, an adopted Italian Greyhound, who spends her days lounging on a fluffy pillow, taking in the sun.
What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? - The time period from 2005-2006. Chelsy and I met, got engaged, married, and then decided to buy a business together all in less than 14 months.
What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? - Grilling a juicy hamburger out on the deck is pretty awesome on a Saturday. I also like to play board games with friends or go float in the swimming pool.
What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? - Chelsy and I live on 20 acres that we have turned from farmland into a natural native grassland. Both of us are passionate about conservation.
If you could choose only one descriptive word to be remembered as, what would it be? - Fun.
What is your favorite book or the last good book you read? - I’m almost done with the latest book in the Dungeon Crawler Carl series (written by Matt Dinniman).
What is your favorite movie? - Star Wars: A New Hope.
What is your favorite TV show? - Andor was my favorite show last year by far.
If our readers would like to contact you, how should they do so? - HobbyTown is located at 70th & Pioneers (4107 Pioneer Woods Dr #108).

Rebecca Marie McNeese REBECCA MARIE PHOTOGRAPHY
Rebecca Marie McNeese is the owner of Rebecca Marie Photography.

Tell us a little about your business. - I’m a professional brand and lifestyle photographer, helping entrepreneurs and small businesses showcase their story through authentic, polished imagery. From headshots to full brand sessions, I create photos that not only look beautiful but also work strategically across websites, social media, and marketing materials. When I’m not working with business clients, I love helping families and couples capture milestone memories. My goal is to make clients feel confident, celebrate their personality, and connect with their audience.
How did you get started in the business? - I’ve been shooting professionally for over 10 years. I niched into commercial/brand photography after years of working closely with executives and business owners, helping them present them professionally. I realized I could combine my eye for detail, love of storytelling and passion for helping people feel confident in front of the camera, and that’s how my photography business was born.
What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? - The biggest challenge I face is that many people don’t feel comfortable in front of the camera. Most clients haven’t had professional photos taken, and if they have, the experience wasn’t what they hoped. It can feel intimidating and awkward. I’ve made it my specialty to guide them through the process, helping them feel relaxed, confident, and authentic. This is what I’m known for…turning what can feel awkward into an empowering and enjoyable experience that produces images clients truly love.
What has been your most important achievement professionally?
- My most important professional achievement has been taking the leap to quit my day job and pursue photography full-time. It gave me the freedom to fully focus on helping clients tell their stories. It’s also allowed me to be more present in the community, meet incredible people, and celebrate their milestones through photography. On top of that, being voted a Top 5 Best Photographer in Lincoln’s Choice Awards two years in a row has been an incredible honor and a reminder that this leap was the right decision.
Tell us a little about your family. - I am a wife and mom with two toddlers, two adult step-kiddos and one angel baby. My family and my faith are the most important things in my life.
What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life?
- One of the biggest turning points in my life happened in my 20s when I was given an unexpected opportunity to support the founder and CEO of a financial firm in Kansas City. Working closely with a successful businessman and entrepreneur gave me a front-row seat to how a company grows and operates. I learned so much from that experience, and it truly changed the trajectory of my life and career.
What is your favorite quote or the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? - “Done is better than perfect.” It’s a simple reminder that progress matters more than perfection. That mindset has helped me take chances, keep moving forward, and grow both personally and professionally.
If you could have a super power, what would it be? - Time travel. So many time periods I would go back to. I don’t think I’d go forward though.
If our readers would like to contact you, how should they do so?
- You can contact me via email at hello@rebeccamariephoto.net or through my website at rebeccamariephoto.net.

John Kingston LAWN PRIDE OF LINCOLN
John Kingston is the owner of Lawn Pride of Lincoln.

Tell us a little about your business. - We are a brother-and-sister owned franchise based in Lincoln, focused on lawn care services including fertilization and weed control. While we benefit from proven franchise systems and support, we manage the day-to-day operations locally and provide all field service work ourselves.

How did you get started in the business? - We explored opportunities to go into business together as a family, looking for something we could build and run side by side. That led us to the idea of helping neighbors improve their lawns, which ultimately became our decision to open a Lawn Pride franchise.
What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? - The biggest challenge we’re facing is proving ourselves as a new business without an established reputation. It’s an ongoing process, but also our most immediate focus.
What has been your most important achievement professionally?
- Opening and operating our local franchise alongside my sister. Building a presence in the community, earning the trust of our first clients and connecting with neighbors we otherwise might not have met has been especially rewarding.
Tell us a little about your family. - I was born and raised here; my family moved to Lincoln shortly before I was born. My sister Kelley and I are both local, and we’ve stayed closely connected to the community through family and local involvement.
What do you see as the biggest turning points in your life? - I was working in an industry I enjoyed, but never fully invested myself in it. The turning point came when my sister and I decided to open a local business together. Now I’m doing work I’m genuinely invested in alongside family, which has made the experience much more meaningful.
What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? - Fishing or spending time at the lake. I enjoy being on the water, boating or just taking in the nature around our lakes and reservoirs. I also have a kayak that doesn’t get enough use; taking my dog out to explore always puts me in my element.
What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? - Most people probably knew this when I was growing up, but I’m a die-hard Kansas State fan. Our dad was an alumn, and I spent plenty of Saturdays in Manhattan, Kansas as a kid. I’m born and raised in Husker Nation, but I tend to lean Wildcat when it comes to football. The 2011 conference change just made the Husker–Wildcat back-and-forth a little more fun.
What is your theme song? - “A Certain Shade of Green” by Incubus.
What is your superpower? - Flying.
What nonprofit are you passionate about? - The Capital Humane Society. Our family is full of animal lovers, and many of our pets have been adopted through them.
What is your favorite movie? - Office Space. I couldn’t tell you how many times I’ve seen it over the years, but if I’m looking to sit back and laugh, it never fails.
What is your favorite local restaurant? - Right now, I can’t get enough of Tacos Los Hermanos.
If our readers would like to contact you, how should they do so? - Our company phone number is (402) 307-1827, email info@ lawnpride.com, or lawnpride.com/Lincoln. To reach me directly, you can email john.kingston@lawnpride.com or call (402) 282-8595.
Abel Castaneda APEX ADVANTAGE BOOKKEEPING, LLC
Abel Castaneda is the founder of Apex Advantage Bookkeeping, LLC.

Tell us a little about your business. - At Apex Advantage Bookkeeping, we do more than just the books. We help business owners understand their numbers so they can make confident decisions. Whether it’s bookkeeping, coaching, or strategic conversations, our goal is simple: clarity and confidence.
How did you get started in the business? - I’ve always been drawn to helping people, especially when it comes to simplifying things that feel overwhelming. I saw a gap where business owners had financial data but didn’t truly understand it. That’s where Apex started: bridging that gap and turning numbers into something useful and empowering.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? - Learning to transition from doing the work myself to having a team. As business owners, we tend to hold on to everything. Letting go and trusting others has been one of the hardest, but most necessary, steps for growth.
What has been your most important achievement professionally? - Working closely with business partners to align them around shared goals. I facilitated a four-hour retreat with one partnership where misalignment was costing them momentum. By taking time to understand each owner’s ideas, we identified how their differences were actually the foundation of their competitive advantage. Once they saw that, everything shifted. The next year, they grew revenue by 10%. But the real win? They found the cohesion to keep moving forward together. Tell us a little about your family. - I’m a proud grandfather to Jackie and Adrian, and I’ll be welcoming another grandchild in November. My kids, Ainsley and Avery, keep me grounded and remind me that success isn’t just measured in dollars. It’s measured in time, relationships, and legacy.
What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life?Choosing to bet on myself and start my own business. I’ve always been a dreamer. When I was a teenager, I wanted to start a business, but I didn’t take action. What changed was believing in myself enough to take that first step, then the next one. Action in business is so important. You don’t have to have it all figured out. You just have to start.
What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? - Spending time with family is non-negotiable. And honestly, I nerd out on what can build improvements in business. Even on my days off, I’m thinking about systems, strategies, and how to serve our clients better.
Who inspires you? - Growing up, I saw my Tios and Tias thriving in business in their own ways. My inspiration comes from my family that came before me. I hope to be just a little bit of the inspiration that I was able to witness in them.
What is your favorite quote? - “You never know what’s around the corner. It could be everything. Or it could be nothing. You keep putting one foot in front of the other, and then one day you look back and you’ve climbed a mountain.” — Tom Hiddleston.
What local nonprofit organization(s) are you passionate about? - I volunteer as a business mentor with RISE Reentry Program in Omaha, working with participants in their business course to help them prepare pitches and launch ventures. It’s exactly where my passion for coaching comes to life: helping people rebuild and move forward.

Justin Wilberger FNIC
Justin
Wilberger is
a Sales Executive, Commercial Insurance at FNIC Trusted insurance advisors

Tell us a little about your business. - At FNIC Trusted insurance advisors, I focus on partnering with commercial clients to provide thoughtful risk management and insurance guidance. The goal is to build lasting relationships and help businesses navigate change with confidence.
How did you get started in the business? - I got my start in the insurance business nearly 14 years ago, drawn by the opportunity to work closely with people and help them protect what they were building. Early on, I learned that this career is as much about trust and listening as it is about knowledge. Over the years, those relationships—and the chance to grow alongside my clients—are what have kept me passionate about the work I do.
What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally?Navigating growth while maintaining a standard. As responsibilities increase and clients’ needs become more complex, there’s a challenge in balancing scale and service to ensure every relationship receives a high level of attention and guidance.

Customer experience is everything. We'll help you make it easy for your customers to pay.
• State-of-the-art equipment with training provided.
• Local support.
• Digital Invoicing.
• Point-of-Sale, online, wireless, and mobile payment options.
• All major credit cards and debit cards accepted.
• Access to many different service providers and payment acceptance options, including Clover
• Lincoln Federal Savings Bank Business Checking required.
• Subject to credit approval.

What has been your most important achievement professionally?
- Building trusted, long-term relationships with clients who view me as a strategic partner rather than a service provider. That trust is a cornerstone of my success.
Tell us a little about your family. - My wife, Aleeyah, and I live in southeast Lincoln. We are currently expecting our first child. I’ve mastered the uncle role with my nephew and three nieces, so thrilled to step into my role as dad.
If you could choose only one descriptive word to be remembered as, what would it be? - Dependable, not only as someone people can count on in the business world, but from a personal standpoint as well.
If you could choose any other profession to be successful in, what would it be? - Entrepreneurship. Building something from scratch that creates value long after the workday ends. There’s something rewarding about creating systems, culture, and momentum that others can grow into.
What is your favorite book or the last good book you read? - The Alchemist by Paulo Coehlo is one of my favorites. Highlights the things we seek are never as far away as they seem, and to focus on the journey. This is a great book for a perspective refresh.
What is your favorite movie? - The Judge with Robert Duvall and Robert Downey Jr. Highly recommend if you haven’t seen it. One of those movies I think everyone can find something to relate to.
What is your favorite TV show? - Shark Tank. In my current role, I work with a wide breadth ranging from new entrepreneurs to seasoned business owners. Being a part of that journey is one of my favorite aspects of my career. It’s intriguing to see what ideas individuals can create and then pursue with a passion.
What is your favorite local Lincoln restaurant? - Depending on what my wife and I are in the mood for, we are big fans of the Chicken Caprese Pizza from Momo’s and the asada tacos from El Chapparo. If our readers would like to contact you, how should they do so?
- I can be contacted via my email at justin.wilberger@fnicgroup.com or (402) 861-7073.
Doc Bolton
Doc Bolton is the Founder & Managing Director at
Parse Software.

Tell us a little about your business. - Parse Software is a technology and software development agency that helps growing businesses figure out how to better use software to streamline and improve their operations. That can range from simple consulting to fully custom application development. Whatever it takes to eliminate inefficiencies and make things run smoother.

How did you get started in the business? - I started Parse Software because I’ve always loved solving hard problems, and I saw a growing need for small and mid-sized businesses to better understand and use technology. At the time, a friend from college was thinking along the same lines, so we decided to go for it and start our own business.
What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally?
- Starting a business from scratch in my twenties with no real experience, connections or money has easily been one of the biggest challenges I’ve faced. Building trust and strong relationships with clients and partners takes time, and there aren’t really any shortcuts. That said, I’d do it all again in a heartbeat.
Tell us a little about your family. - My family is amazing. My parents are dolphin trainers in Roatan, Honduras. My mother is involved in some of the foremost research in the world regarding dolphin behavior and communication. I have two sisters who live in Florida, one is a nurse and the other is in radiology. In Lincoln, I live with my beautiful girlfriend, Carly, and my 3 dogs: Bodhi, Lucy and Finn.
What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? - I grew up on a small Caribbean island off the north coast of Honduras and I speak Spanish fluently.
If you could have a super power, what would it be? - I think it would probably be teleportation. I’d like to be able to bounce around to different places to experience different things WITHOUT having to deal with travel. That would be amazing. Airport lines and airplanes give me anxiety. Not having to deal with any of that would be huge. And you could visit your family anytime you want.
What is your greatest talent that you don’t utilize in your daily work life? - I’m an absolute gamer.
If you could choose any other profession to be successful in, what would it be? - I’d like to give being a lawyer a shot. I have a tremendous ability to argue and I think court could be a lot of fun. Law school maybe not, though.
What is your favorite TV show? - My all-time favorite show, which is hard to beat, is The Office. More recently, I really enjoyed A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms
What is your favorite local Lincoln restaurant? - My favorite local Lincoln restaurant is probably The Oven. Honorable mention goes to Blue Orchid. Their khao soi is a favorite in our house.
If our readers would like to contact you, how should they do?
- You can get in touch with us via email at hello@parsesoftware. com, on the phone at (402) 937-9023, or at our website at parsesoftware.com

Some of her projects have been included in the Tour of Remodeled Homes, most recently in April. She has also been a member of the Remodelers Council for many years and once took her turn as President.

One key to her success is listening to her clients to make sure their projects turn out exactly as they dreamed they would, or better. Aging Ally, a Lincoln-based healthcare advocacy and navigation service, is helping families manage the growing complexity of today’s healthcare system - especially when caring for aging loved ones. Founded by Brenda Soto, RN, Aging Ally was created to bridge the gap between medical care and the real-life decisions families face every day. From hospital discharges to new diagnoses, many families are left overwhelmed and unsure of next steps.
“It often starts with something small,” said Soto. “Families want to do the right thing, but they’re trying to navigate a system that isn’t always easy to understand.”
Aging Ally provides personalized support to help clients understand care plans, coordinate services, navigate insurance, and make informed decisions with confidence.
From May 1 through May 28, Aging Ally is participating in Give to Lincoln Day to expand access to advocacy services for individuals and families in need. Community members are encouraged to support this mission by donating through Aging Ally’s designated Give to Lincoln Day link at givetolincoln.com/nonprofits/aging-ally.
Donations will help ensure that more individuals and families receive guidance, clarity, and support - so no one has to navigate healthcare alone.

Life seems to stop when a child is diagnosed with pediatric cancer, but expenses don’t. Angels Among Us is committed to easing the financial and emotional burdens on pediatric cancer families to keep them in their homes and focused on what matters most: their sick child.
In 2025, AAU served 122 pediatric cancer families with over $890,000 in financial assistance in the form of critical bill payments. Of those families, 15 were from Lincoln and Lancaster County. Monthly bill payments are made directly to creditors for the duration of the child’s critical treatment plan. AAU pays rent, mortgage, utilizes and car payments to alleviate the financial stress brought on by a pediatric cancer diagnosis.
Expansion of emotional support programming into Lincoln has also been a top priority in 2026 for AAU. By hosting family-focused and women’s recharge events in Lincoln, AAU is providing opportunities for pediatric cancer families to connect in their own community.
“AAU helped pay our bills so that we could focus on our child’s needs rather than how we would manage to financially navigate such a difficult situation,” says one of AAU’s Lincoln families. “Cancer can feel so isolating and overwhelming, but because of AAU, our family knew we always had someone there to support us.”
Angels Among Us is celebrating 20 years of serving Nebraska’s pediatric cancer families, supporting over 800 families with over $6 million in support since 2006. If you are interested in learning more about AAU’s mission or how you can support, contact Ashley McMurchie at ashley@myangelsamongus.org or by calling 402-934-0999.

On April 15, Apace hosted its annual Apace Symposium at the Holthus Event Center in York, Nebraska, bringing together individuals supported by Apace, families, staff, and community members for a day of learning, connection, and celebration.

What made the Apace Symposium especially meaningful was that the presenters were individuals supported by Apace. Throughout the day, presenters took the stage to share their personal stories, experiences, and perspectives, offering powerful insight into their lives.
Their presentations elevated voices that are too often unheard and showcased the talents, confidence, and growth of the individuals Apace support.
The Symposium provided a professional conference-style experience, empowering presenters to prepare, practice, and present in a supportive environment. Attendees left feeling inspired by the stories shared and reminded of the importance of inclusion, respect, and belonging.

CASA needs your help to advocate for more at-risk children in Juvenile Court!
CASA for Lancaster County is seeking volunteers. A training session for new volunteers is set to begin on June 23. This is a six-week training course held on Tuesday nights from 6 to 9 p.m. All training sessions will be held at CASA for Lancaster County, 1141 H St., STE C, on the third floor.
CASA volunteers are trained community advocates assigned to abused/ neglected children who are in Juvenile Court through no fault of their own.

CASA volunteers have a court order that gives them access to the child and to all their records so that the CASA volunteer can gather information and determine the needs of the child. This is done by getting to know the children and by interviewing interested parties to determine the facts as well as reviewing records and documents.
CASA volunteers get to know the child, and they communicate the child’s needs and wishes to the judge along with their recommendations for needed services or next steps. CASA volunteers are required to attend approximately 30 hours of pre-service training and 12 hours of in-service (continuing education) annually and are supervised by a CASA staff person.
In 2025, CASA advocated for 311 children, trained 38 new volunteers, and had 118 volunteers assigned to children. If you are interested in learning more about becoming a volunteer or about CASA for Lancaster County, go to casa4lancaster.org/advocate-forchildren to get started or call the CASA Office at (402) 474-5161.

The American Heart Association’s Hard Hats with Heart campaign concluded its second year on March 31, bringing together leaders from across the construction and skilled trades industries to advance heart health and workplace safety.

The event highlighted the elevated risk of heart disease and stroke in construction and reinforced the role employers play in prevention through education, preparedness and culture change. WOWT 6 News anchor and survivor Maria Cade served as emcee, guiding attendees through a program featuring local survivor stories, medical insight from CHI Health, and local smoking cessation materials.
Jason Studt, Chair of Hard Hats with Heart and a leader at JE Dunn Construction, recognized the campaign’s executive leadership team and sponsors for their commitment to saving lives.
“The construction industry is built on teamwork and responsibility,” Studt said. “Hard Hats with Heart gives us the opportunity to extend that responsibility beyond the job site—by creating healthier workplaces, equipping our teams with life saving skills, and making sure our people are able to go home safely to their families.”
Chris Neal (JE Dunn) and Josh Griesemer (Helm Mechanical) shared personal experiences that underscored the importance of recognizing symptoms, acting quickly, and taking heart health seriously. Together, their stories reinforced the campaign’s mission to empower workers to protect both their own health and the health of those around them.
Through CPR training, cardiac emergency response planning, and ongoing education, Hard Hats with Heart continues to strengthen the industry—and the community it builds. For more information about the American Heart Association, visit heart.org.

Junior Achievement of Lincoln successfully hosted its largest-ever Stock Market Challenge on April 15 at Pinnacle Bank Arena, bringing together nearly 550 students from schools across Nebraska for a day of high-energy competition and hands-on financial learning.

The annual event immersed students in a fast-paced stock market simulation where teams made real-time investment decisions based on changing market conditions, economic news and strategic risk assessment. Throughout the challenge, students applied critical thinking, teamwork and financial literacy skills as they worked to grow their portfolios and outperform competing schools.
This year’s competition marked the biggest in the event’s history, reflecting growing enthusiasm for experiential learning opportunities that prepare students for future success in business and personal finance.
“The Stock Market Challenge gives students a memorable opportunity to practice skills they can carry into college, careers, and life,” said Junior Achievement of Lincoln.
Junior Achievement extends its gratitude to the educators, volunteers, and sponsors whose support made the event possible and helped inspire the next generation of Nebraska leaders. Visit their website at lincoln.ja.org.
With spring’s arrival comes an increased likelihood of severe weather across Nebraska. The American Red Cross urges residents to take steps now to prepare for thunderstorms, tornadoes, flooding and other severe weather.

The Red Cross encourages everyone to download the free Red Cross Emergency app for real time alerts, emergency guidance in English and Spanish and information on available disaster shelters and support locations.
Staying informed is critical. Individuals and families should use multiple methods to receive weather updates, including options that do not require electricity, in case of a power outage. It’s also important to understand the difference between a watch and a warning:
• WATCH: Be prepared. Severe weather is possible and conditions may worsen. Use this time to review your plan and stay alert for additional updates.
• WARNING: Take action. Severe weather is occurring, imminent or likely, and poses a threat to life or property. Move to your safe location immediately.
When thunder roars, go indoors. Seek shelter in a sturdy building, moving to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor and staying away from windows and doors.
Plan ahead by identifying a safe place to shelter and practicing tornado drills with your household. Safe locations include a basement, storm cellar or small interior room on the lowest floor with no windows. Mobile homes and RVs are not safe during tornadoes. If flooding is expected or occurring, be prepared to evacuate immediately if instructed by local officials. Never walk, swim or drive through floodwaters.

As Give to Lincoln Day approaches, Lincoln Medical Education Partnership (LMEP) is inviting the community to support its mission of providing quality, integrated healthcare while training the next generation of physicians.

LMEP serves hundreds of patients and clients through a full scope of services, including primary care, mental health support, substance abuse counseling and acupuncture. At the center of its work is the Lincoln Family Medicine Center, which also serves as the primary training site for the Lincoln Family Medicine Residency Program, giving resident physicians hands-on experience while delivering patient-centered care.
Beyond the clinic, LMEP’s programs extend into the community. School Community Intervention and Prevention (SCIP) equips educators to recognize students at risk for behavioral health and substance use challenges, connecting families with critical resources through free assessments. Stepping Stones provides counseling and mental health care for individuals ages five and older, while Lincoln Medical Acupuncture offers safe, effective treatment options that support healing and overall wellness.
Support from Give to Lincoln Day helps sustain these essential programs, ensuring continued access to care and education across the community. When donating, LMEP encourages individuals to consider the lasting impact of investing in both healthcare services and the future of family medicine in Lincoln. With nearly 200 years of service between them, and after 18 months of affiliation, Tabitha Senior Care and Eventide Senior Living Communities have officially become Eventide. Tabitha’s communities across Nebraska will now bear the Eventide name.

“While partnerships like this are often viewed through the lens of efficiency and greater use of resources, and while that is one result, this has always been about taking care of the people who live here,” said Riewer. “And we now have 2,000 employees looking after 2,000 residents across Minnesota, North Dakota, and Nebraska. It’s hard to find that kind of personal attention elsewhere, let alone that level of compassion.”
According to Eventide officials, the move enables them to continually enhance care while keeping in place the people who’ve made this organization the senior community Nebraskans trust.
The values aren’t changing, either. The combined nonprofit, faithbased organization is committed to upholding the values that made Tabitha the state’s award-winning senior care expert. And as the two organizations came together, they built a relationship based on shared ideals: Compassion and kindness; integrity and respect; and faith, family, and a philosophy that just might surprise residents and guests: At Eventide, joy doesn’t have an age limit.
“We are one culture with one mission, one vision, one set of values,” said Dayna Swenseth, Vice President of Nebraska Operations. “And Tabitha is alive and well within that. We’ve combined the strengths of two great non-profits without losing the spirit of either.”

Disrupting Traffick joins the Lincoln Community Foundation for Lincoln’s One Big Day of Giving. The 15th Give to Lincoln Day is here! This annual giving event benefiting participating local nonprofits kicks off May 1 and builds up to Lincoln’s One Big Day of Giving on Thursday, May 28.
Disrupting Traffick has been a previous participant in this annual event and is grateful for Give to Lincoln Day donations that help prevent sexual exploitation through community education, outreach, and practical support. Their resource center, located at 1625 N Street, serves as a critical entry point for women and youth facing vulnerability. Disrupting Traffick operates from a simple but powerful belief: traffickers exploit unmet needs, and when those needs are met, prevention begins.
By donating to Disrupting Traffick through Give to Lincoln Day, community members receive tangible resources—such as food, clothing, and hygiene items—freely and without expectation. Disrupting Traffick is also able to provide short-term emergency housing through its safe house.
For many, this is the first experience of receiving help without strings attached. Beyond crisis response, Disrupting Traffick offers long-term advocacy and mentorship, fostering healthy relationships that empower survivors to rebuild lives marked by dignity, freedom, and hope. Through dignity-centered care and early intervention, Disrupting Traffick works to disrupt cycles of exploitation before they take hold. Through their partnership with the Lincoln Community Foundation, Disrupting Traffick is able to bring awareness to a need our community faces.
For more information about their services, volunteering or how to donate, contact Nichole at nichole@disruptingtraffick.org.

For thousands of families in Lincoln, a basic need isn’t always guaranteed. More than 4,000 babies under age 3 live in households where parents must choose between essentials like food and diapers.

Because diapers aren’t covered by programs like SNAP, WIC, or Medicaid, families often stretch supplies, reuse disposables, or potty train too early, impacting a baby’s health and development.
Nebraska Diaper Bank (NDB) is working to change that. In 2025, NDB distributed 471,720 diapers in Lincoln, supporting 808 babies through trusted community partners like Center for People.
Each child receives 60 to 80 diapers per month, helping them stay clean, dry, and comfortable through age three.
The impact goes beyond clean diapers. Families report reduced stress, improved sleep and health for their babies, and greater ability to afford other essentials or return to work. Diapers help create stability and dignity.
Nebraska Diaper Bank returns for its second year with Give to Lincoln Day on May 28. Your support ensures families don’t have to face diaper need alone. Every donation helps keep babies in Lincoln healthy, happy, and safe, one diaper at a time.
Let’s come together and make sure every baby has what they need to thrive.
Give diapers. Give dignity. Give to Lincoln. More information available at nebraskadiaperbank.org.
Goodwill Industries Serving Southeast Nebraska, Inc. reopened Job Connection in its newly renovated downtown Lincoln location. Job Connection now occupies a larger section of the building and offers new opportunities for clients.
Since 1997, Job Connection has existed to help individuals overcome traditional barriers to employment and find meaningful work.

Goodwill’s Employment Specialists provide one-on-one assistance with a variety of services, including resume creation, online applications and computer skills development. Thanks to the funding from Goodwill’s thrift stores, Job Connection is free for client use.
“Our clients appreciate the personalized support they receive at Job Connection,” said Aubry Hoegemeyer, Goodwill’s Employment Services Director. “Many of them return for follow-up visits and refer their friends and family. Before we expanded, there were many days when every computer station was full.”
Once construction was complete, Job Connection reopened with added resources, like more computers, a small conference room, new desks and waiting areas, while offering the same individualized attention to clients. Goodwill will continue adding features to the space that support its mission, “willing workers employed and community resources maximized.”
Job Connection is located at 1731 O Street, open Monday through Wednesday, 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. Learn more at lincolngoodwill.org.

The Lincoln Children’s Museum is encouraging young builders and big thinkers to roll up their sleeves this summer with its newest temporary exhibit, What Will You Build Today?
Located on the Museum’s lower level, the interactive space invites children to explore creative STEM careers through hands-on building and open-ended play, including:

• Architecture: Sketching ideas and planning structures at the blueprint station
• Engineering: Building, testing, and problem-solving with materials like Rigamajig, Lincoln Logs and Build-A-House planks
• Interior Design: Designing and decorating spaces within a fully furnished, interactive dollhouse
From first ideas to finished builds, the exhibit encourages children to bring their designs to life while developing critical thinking and confidence, rather than following step-by-step instructions.
“This exhibit is all about giving kids the space to think like designers and problem-solvers,” said Tara Knuth, CEO of Lincoln Children’s Museum. “When children are able to build, test and adjust their ideas, they’re developing skills that extend far beyond the Museum walls.”
What Will You Build Today? reflects the Museum’s continued focus on hands-on STEM learning, where play becomes a pathway to creativity, exploration and real-world discovery.
The exhibit will be available throughout the summer season and is included with Museum admission.
For more information visit lincolnchildrensmuseum.org or contact Ellie Charter, CMO, at echarter@lincolnchildrensmusuem.org.

Thanks to community investment, Willard Community Center has transformed a newly redesigned and dedicated space for adult and senior programming, made possible through generous funding from the Community Health Endowment, Immanuel Vision Foundation, and Nebraska Presbyterian Foundation.

The David Staenberg Family Foundation was created to help dyslexic youth have the opportunity to attend college. Recently, they award three scholarships each year—two in Omaha and one in Lincoln—while expanding their mission to serve veterans and our community.

“This work is deeply personal,” David Staenberg says. “As a 100% service-connected disabled veteran who has experienced homelessness, I understand the importance of community support, and I believe in giving that back.”
They focus on providing a hand up, not just a handout. Through the Vet Center, they fund 50–60 Dave Ramsey financial literacy courses each year. They also support homeless veterans with ready-to-eat food, blankets, clothing, and essential supplies. In addition, they provide around 150 food pantry kits to veteran organizations in Lincoln.
Much of what they do is done anonymously. It’s not about recognition. It’s about impact.
They host multiple food drives each year and support nonprofits facing food shortages. Every dollar raised goes directly back into the community.
The self-funded newsletter, supported by sponsors, reaches over 13,000 people and helps fuel their mission.
They are proud to partner with organizations like the Food Bank, Orphan Grain Train, Atlas, the Vet Center, SSVF, and Victory Park to serve others, helping others brings purpose, joy and lasting impact. For more information, visit the davidstaenbergfamilyfoundation.org.

As the end of the school year approaches, TeamMates of Lincoln continues to add to what has already been a record year. With the last training session coming to a close in April, they surpassed the long-time goal of 365 mentors trained during the 2025-26 school year. That’s over 1 new mentor for every day of the year, which has never been done in the 35 years of TeamMates’ existence. While they’re always accepting new mentors, the training sessions will take a pause in May and start back up in June as they ramp up for the 2026-27 school year.
While Teammates of Lincoln will have supported more than 1,400 matches over the 2025-26 school year, there are still over 500 students eagerly awaiting a mentor. Whether you decide to apply now or later in the summer, it’s a great time to get a head start so you’re ready to begin your journey with your mentee at the start of the school year.
You can be a part of the continued inspiration and impact. For more information about TeamMates and becoming a mentor, you can contact the Lincoln recruitment team at (402) 436-1990, info@ lincolnteammates.org, or visit LincolnTeamMates.org.

Towels might seem like a small, everyday item, but for people experiencing homelessness they can make a huge difference in dignity, health, and daily survival.
A towel can provide a multitude of things, like personal hygiene, health, warmth, protection, and a sense of dignity.
Consider donating new or gently used towels during our collection dates May 11 – 25.

A stroke can change a life in an instant. When symptoms begin, acting fast can help protect the brain, reduce long-term disability and save a life, according to the American Stroke Association, a division of the American Heart Association.

On average, nearly 2 million brain cells die every minute a stroke goes untreated, making early recognition and treatment critical. During May, American Stroke Month, the Stroke Association is highlighting how recognizing warning signs and responding quickly can make a lifesaving difference.
When a stroke occurs, blood flow to the brain is interrupted. Calling 911 is the fastest way to receive care, and EMS can begin treatment immediately and alert the hospital stroke team.
B.E. F.A.S.T. is an easy way to remember common warning signs:
• Balance Loss: Sudden dizziness, trouble walking or loss of coordination
• Eye (Vision) Changes: Sudden vision trouble in one or both eyes
• Face Drooping: One side of the face droops or feels numb
• Arm Weakness: One arm feels weak or drifts downward
• Speech Difficulty: Slurred speech or trouble speaking
• Time to Call 911: Even if symptoms go away, call right away and note when they began
Approximately 80% of strokes are preventable. Managing blood pressure—the leading risk factor—building healthy habits and understanding personal risk can significantly reduce stroke risk. Stroke recovery is a journey, and support matters. Learn more, explore prevention tools and find survivor and caregiver resources at Stroke.org/StrokeMonth.
What does it mean to be connected?
The 2026 Vision Maker Film Festival explores this question through its yearlong theme, “Everything is Connected,” featuring documentaries, narrative films, and shorts produced and funded by Vision Maker Media. Films screen in-person at UNL’s The Ross Theater and online at Vision Maker Media’s website.

On May 11, “In the Wake of Justice Delayed” screens at The Ross. This film follows an Alaska Native family fighting for justice after a loved one is murdered, examining systemic inequities that erode community trust, suppress crime reporting, and fuel cycles of violence.
For free tickets, visit theross.org/events/native-american-film-series.
Three films are available online in May: “Fire Tender” follows a grandmother and knowledge keeper (Yurok) working to restore traditional fire practices, illuminating the deep connection between people and land. “Stroke: The Circle of Healing” chronicles a stroke survivor’s recovery as he blends Western medicine with traditional Native American healing. “Scha’nexw Elhtal’nexw Salmon People: Preserving a Way of Life” follows two families (Lummi) confronting climate change and a depleting fishery in a story of resilience, gratitude, and cultural identity.

Matthew Finkner, the Executive Director at Abendmusik says:
“Both Kelly and Ethan were a great pleasure to work with and followed up on the progress of our work after the projects were completed. I highly recommend The Foundry’s Base Camp resources for any nonprofit that needs assistance in running their operation.”

With grant funding for nonprofits increasingly competitive and difficult to secure, organizations like Abendmusik are finding that strategic resources, not just dollars, make all the difference. Abendmusik, a Lincoln-based performing arts nonprofit, was able to complete two major organizational advances through Base Camp Foundry resources. The collaboration has resulted in a data-driven audience outreach strategy and the launch of Abendmusik Forever, a planned giving program.
In an environment where many nonprofits are feeling the pressure to deprioritize capacity-building work due to cost, the Base Camp Foundry resource model offers a compelling alternative. By partnering with Base Camp Foundry resources, Abendmusik gained access to professional expertise, which allowed it to accomplish work it could not have undertaken on its own. The Foundry team provided expertise through two dedicated projects:
Project One: Audience demographics survey, statistical modeling, community outreach strategy, including new outreach to retirement facilities via livestream
Project Two: Planned giving research, intake form design, and informational brochure development for the Abendmusik Foreverestate giving program
The audience survey conducted by the Foundry team revealed that a significant portion of Abendmusik’s audience is over the age of 60, a finding that directly shaped new initiatives in fundraising, livestreaming, and community outreach. Notably, the data prompted Abendmusik to begin connecting with retirement facilities and individuals whose mobility or transportation limitations prevent them from attending concerts in person.
In the second engagement, the Foundry team researched best planned giving practices and helped Abendmusik design an intake form and informational brochure for Abendmusik Forever, providing the option for donors to include Abendmusik in estate giving plans.
“Without the Base Camp Foundry resources, these projects simply would not have happened,” said Finkner. “Base Camp’s developers gave us the talent and capacity necessary to build something lasting for our organization and our community.”
The partnership between Abendmusik and Base Camp Foundry stands as a model for how nonprofits can adapt in a challenging funding landscape, leveraging collaboration and shared expertise and resources to do more with less, and to build the kind of longterm organizational infrastructure that grants alone cannot fund.

Matt Talbot Kitchen & Outreach has been named a finalist in the Community Health Endowment’s (CHE) Community Health Ideas Challenge, a competitive initiative recognizing innovative solutions to improve community health. The organization was selected for its forward-thinking concept to expand access to nutritious food in Lincoln through secure, refrigerated pantry lockers placed in underserved areas, allowing guests to order online and pick up food on their own time. “Access, dignity and flexibility—this is how we remove barriers and support healthier lives,” said Alynn Sampson, Executive Director of Matt Talbot Kitchen & Outreach.
For more than 30 years, the organization has been a trusted resource in Lincoln, providing daily meals, outreach services and critical support for individuals experiencing homelessness and poverty. Their mission is to relieve hunger, overcome homelessness, address addiction and provide outreach and advocacy, which are drivers of health and well-being.
In Lancaster County, 1 in 10 residents experience food insecurity, a challenge that can lead to increased stress, chronic health issues and barriers to stability. Through its programs and partnerships, Matt Talbot works alongside over 3,300 guests per year to reduce these barriers. As a finalist, Matt Talbot is helping lead the way in developing practical, community-based solutions that improve health outcomes. Mental Health Is a Workplace Issue— And a Leadership One

For decades, conversations about mental health (when they did happen) focused almost entirely on the individual. Workers were encouraged to manage stress, resilience or improve work–life balance, as though well being existed independently of where people spend most of their waking hours. Organizational responses followed the same logic. They were largely reactive: offer an Employee Assistance Program, circulate a resource list and hope it gets used. That model is no longer sufficient. Mental health is a workplace issue and a leadership issue.
Historically, if work felt overwhelming, the assumption was the individual needed better coping skills. If burnout occurred, the solution was often framed as personal issue. Rarely did organizations examine whether workload, practices or cultural norms were contributing factors.
But work is not neutral.
Chronic overwork, unrealistic expectations, lack of role clarity or autonomy, inconsistent communication, high conflict or dismissive cultures and insufficient flexibility directly affect stress and psychological safety. These are not abstract concepts. They are operational realities—created, or at the very least tolerated—by leadership. It is worth asking why mental health now shows up everywhere. The answer is not one thing; it is a convergence. Rates of reported anxiety, depression and stress related challenges have increased. Younger generations are more open about mental health and less willing to remain in unhealthy environments. As a society, we no longer hide mental illness the way we once did. Institutionalization has declined dramatically, and the stigma that once forced these issues out of public view has steadily eroded. What was once treated as a private struggle is now recognized as a widespread, visible and deeply interconnected issue. This shift is often framed as a generational problem, attributed to the preferences of Millennials and Gen Z. That explanation is convenient—and inaccurate. It strains credibility to suggest that previous generations did not want reasonable workloads, psychological safety, flexibility or leaders who understand.
Addressing this does not require turning managers into therapists. It does not require lowering standards or excusing performance. It requires leadership accountability in areas squarely within management’s control like workloads, clarity around expectations and priorities, manager response training, positive cultures and reasonable flexibility.
These are management competencies—not clinical interventions. When leaders take ownership of workplace conditions, mental health stops being a liability and becomes organizational design. Businesses that intentionally build psychologically sustainable environments are not being soft; they are being strategic. They reduce burnout, strengthen retention, improve performance and build trust.
Mental health is no longer an individual issue organizations can outsource or ignore. It is a shared responsibility—one in which leadership sets the conditions. Ignoring that reality is no longer defensible. Addressing it is no longer optional.
The most forward looking businesses are not asking why employees cannot simply “handle it.” They are asking a better question: What kind of workplace are we creating—and is it built to last?

Re ecting over these 20+ years, what I have learned is that consistency in work habits, belief in what you are doing, and being surrounded by mentors and fellow professionals in the industry has led to a very satisfying career.
I rst started my RE career after I spent the previous year volunteering in many capacities in my church during a period when we were without a full time pastor. It lled my bucket! In the meantime, my husband had a good career but suddenly took a 40% pay cut. I had thought of Real Estate for years but never pursued it. That event gave me the push. At rst, I was concerned that I would no longer be serving the purpose I had, but I quickly learned the opposite was true! And I have found it exciting, rewarding and challenging ever since.
As I have matured in life my priorities have become clearer. I grew up in a loving family within a small community where relationships and concern for others were hard wired into me. My faith began as a young person, but life experiences over the years have shown me that is my #1. It keeps me on path and helps me remember who I am and why I am here.
When you help someone make a transition, whether buying a rst home, moving up, or downsizing to a facility, there are many ways a Realtor has an important in uence. It begins with helping the client to discern their needs and wants. From there, that’s where the expertise comes in! I am a problem solver and there is nothing more gratifying than to help someone get over the hurdles, helping them to know “we can do this” and make it all happen. It is a partnership. We do it together.

“Deb is spectacular. She leveraged her network of professionals in Omaha and went out of her way to help me search in Elkhorn which is signi cantly outside her normal area. She connected me with one of her lenders who ensured the process was smooth and clear. She didn’t just help me purchase a home, she educated me about the process. Her patience, customer service, and professionalism are unmatched.”

“We used Deb for a number of real estate transactions since 2016 and she was outstanding each time we worked with her. She has been wonderful even after the sale when we needed recommendations for things like contractors, carpeting, paint, landscape, and more. We share Deb's contact with all our friends and family when they are looking for real estate help.”
Micheal Despain

Dear Deb,
Thank you for absolutely everything you did to make this transfer of ownership possible from the hand-holding suggestions, encouragement and cool-headedness through every hiccup. I would not be here quietly sitting at my desk in a lovely neighborhood without your help. I will never forget your great support and dedication and am so grateful you came into my world.

Celebrating 25 Years of TADA Theatre Excellence: Cris and Robert Rook Lead the Way
When Cris Rook and Robert D. Rook began dreaming about building a theatre company, they envisioned creating meaningful artistic outreach in their community. Twenty-five years later, their vision has grown into one of Lincoln’s most celebrated cultural institutions: TADA Productions.

This season, TADA Productions celebrates its 25th anniversary, a milestone not only of longevity but deep community impact, artistic excellence, and the enduring influence of two passionate NWU graduates.
What began as a small outreach theatre company quickly evolved into a major artistic collaborator across Lincoln. TADA Productions partnered with the Lied Center for Performing Arts, Lincoln Symphony Orchestra, International Quilt Museum, the Nebraska Symphony Chamber Orchestra, and Lincoln Parks and Recreation. The company also gained national attention through collaborations with Broadway creators, producing regional premieres such as Jekyll & Hyde, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, and Gilligan’s Island: The Musical.
“We had offers to leave Lincoln and run theatres elsewhere, but TADA is essential to surrounding businesses in the Haymarket and Downtown overall,” Robert D. Rook said. “We love this city and have always been Lincoln native. I am still a bit surprised how many Broadway creators have trusted us with their work and brought so many of them to Nebraska. I don’t take that trust lightly.”
These high-caliber productions helped place Lincoln in the national spotlight, reinforcing the city’s reputation as a vibrant arts destination.
In 2008, TADA’s impact deepened with the construction of the TADA Theatre in Lincoln’s Haymarket District. The theatre quickly became a cornerstone of downtown development and was honored with an Impact Award from the Downtown Lincoln Association.
Featuring a diverse group of theatrical artists, a dedicated production team, a growing patron base, and a distinguished Board of Directors, TADA has engaged hundreds of volunteers, students, educators, actors, designers, and regional guest artists. The mission remains consistent: connecting the community with the positive power of theatre in a safe, welcoming, and creative environment.
“I strongly feel that theatre is more important now than ever,” Rook said. “TADA means The Arts Deserve Attention and in a world that seems so divisive, patrons can leave politics in the lobby and all come in to see a show and connect as one for a couple hours. That is a pretty good job perk and there is nothing better than seeing a live show over streaming. It allows an escape for a diverse patron base and unity that is the real magic of TADA!”
Senior year is a big moment—for them and for you. Celebrate your Class of 2026 or 2027 graduates with a personalized senior portrait session or timeless cap & gown photos designed to capture this exciting milestone for your family.

As TADA marks its 25th anniversary, the celebration continues. On March 6 and 7, the TADA Board of Directors and the City of Lincoln honored this milestone with a live concert celebration featuring many returning performers from across the country.

Founded in 1967, the Downtown Lincoln Association provides services and champions initiatives for maintaining and enhancing our vibrant downtown. Today’s world runs on speed, convenience and the expectation of immediate results. Because of this, it is more important than ever for your office or business to operate at peak efficiency in order to best serve your clients and customers. Even small disruptions, whether it’s a slow system, disorganized workspace or preventable downtime can impact productivity and employee morale.

A major component of efficiency starts with your technology. Reliable internet, secure data backup systems and strong cybersecurity measures are essential to keeping daily operations running smoothly. When any of these systems fall short, it can lead to delays, frustration and even costly setbacks. Ensuring your technology is up to date and functioning properly allows your team to stay focused, responsive and productive.
However, technology is only one piece of the puzzle. The physical environment your team works in plays an equally important role in overall efficiency. A cluttered, disorganized or dirty workspace can be distracting and make it harder for employees to concentrate and perform at their best. On the other hand, a clean and well-maintained office promotes focus, boosts morale and creates a more professional atmosphere for both staff and visitors.
When looking for ways to improve how your office operates, it’s important not to overlook the impact a professional cleaning service can have. By maintaining a consistently clean and organized space, you’re not only supporting the health and well-being of your team, but also creating an environment that encourages productivity and efficiency across the board.

At Maid to Please , they know the difference a clean office or workplace can make. Unclean or disorganized workspaces often lead to small but consistent inefficiencies that add up over time. Employees may spend unnecessary time locating materials, navigating cluttered areas or working around spaces that aren’t properly maintained. Additionally, a lack of cleanliness can contribute to distractions, reduced focus and even increased
absenteeism. While these issues may seem minor individually, they can quietly impact overall productivity and workplace professionalism.
One of the most consistent pieces of feedback Maid to Please receives is the improvement their clients notice in office morale and performance. A clean work space or storefront naturally creates a more positive and professional vibe. Employees tend to take greater pride in their workspace, and it often leads to improved morale and a stronger sense of organization. Clients and visitors also notice the difference immediately - we’ve all been in a messy store beforeand at Maid to Please they believe this helps the bottom line via both client impressions and employee efficiency.
They prioritize flexibility and clear communication to ensure their services integrate smoothly into each client’s operations. Their team works directly with each business to schedule service on the days and times that are most convenient for their team and workflow. By maintaining consistent scheduling, structured cleaning systems and dependable technicians, they’re able to deliver high-quality results in a way that feels organized, predictable and minimally disruptive to the workplace.

When technology works the way it should, your team can focus on what they do best: running and growing the business. Reliable tech support removes the friction that slows people down, whether that’s a printer that won’t cooperate, email that isn’t syncing or a network that keeps dropping. For small businesses especially, every person wears multiple hats, so even a small disruption can ripple across the whole operation. As a small team themselves, Panology understands the importance of managing time wisely. They prioritize requests based on the impact and urgency to the client, ensuring the most critical issues are addressed first. Having a technology partner who understands your business and takes that kind of ownership is what helps keep day-to-day operations running smoothly.
The issues they see most often aren’t dramatic; they’re the everyday things that quietly eat into productivity. Network connectivity problems, slow or aging computers, email and calendar issues, password and access troubles, and printers are the usual suspects. Beyond that, they see businesses that have outgrown their original technology setup but haven’t received guidance on what to do next. A lot of small businesses don’t have someone looking at the bigger picture of how their technology supports their goals. That’s where having a dedicated technology partner makes a real difference -- not just fixing what’s broken, but helping businesses grow with the right tools in place.
For Panology, it starts with knowing their clients well. They treat clients’ problems like their own — that’s just how they operate. They focus on documentation and procedures, so when something does come up, they can respond quickly and accurately. Panology also focuses on proactive maintenance: keeping systems updated, watching for early warning signs and making recommendations before small issues turn into big outages. For small businesses, technology needs are often underserved, and that’s exactly why Panology exists. They partner closely with their clients through honest, collaborative relationships so they can anticipate needs and keep disruptions to a minimum. Their goal is simple — enable small businesses to flourish by making sure technology is a strength, not a headache.
When it comes to business efficiency, it begins with having the right IT solutions in place to ensure business continuity, reliability and security. Hamilton Business Technologies offers many services including Managed IT solutions, cybersecurity, business phone systems, security and access controls, data center services and business AI solutions. Their services are designed to keep systems secure, reliable and running

efficiently so clients can focus on their core business rather than technology issues.
Ensuring strong internet starts with assessing a client’s current network and understanding their usage needs. This includes evaluating bandwidth requirements, Wi Fi coverage and potential bottlenecks. Reliable solutions involve using high-quality networking equipment, optimizing router placement and implementing secure, businessgrade Wi Fi systems. Ongoing monitoring and support help maintain performance and quickly resolve connectivity issues so clients can operate without disruption.
Data backup is also essential for efficiency because it minimizes downtime and prevents data loss in the event of system failures, cyberattacks or human error. With reliable backups, businesses can quickly restore critical information and resume operations without lengthy disruptions. This ensures continuity, protects valuable data and allows employees to stay productive instead of reacting to data-related emergencies.
Cybersecurity is one of the most critical things for a business’s efficiency because it protects their data, systems and operations from disruptions caused by cyber threats. Strong cybersecurity reduces downtime, prevents data breaches and protects sensitive customer and financial information. When systems are secure, employees can work confidently and efficiently without interruptions from cyberattacks, compliance issues or data loss. Ultimately, cybersecurity safeguards trust, reputation and long-term business stability.
Parse Software knows a custom solution isn’t always the right answer. Many widely used platforms are effective for common business needs,
Your customers may not comment, but they’ve noticed the dust and dirt on your ceiling.

and they often recommend them when they’re a good fit. Custom software becomes more efficient when a business has unique processes or challenges that off-the-shelf tools weren’t designed to handle. In those cases, companies often end up working around the software. This involves adding manual steps, using multiple systems, or paying for features they don’t need. A well-designed custom solution removes that friction. It’s built specifically around how the business operates which can simplify workflows, reduce costs and improve overall efficiency. Their goal is to help clients choose the right approach, whether that’s leveraging an existing platform or building something tailored to their needs.

Businesses often underestimate how much inefficient data handling slows them down. Inefficient data handling is one of the most common and overlooked sources of friction inside a business. Many teams don’t realize how much time is spent re-entering data, correcting errors or moving information between systems. Those small inefficiencies add up quickly and can slow down operations across the entire organization, especially when those tasks are done frequently. At Parse Software they often find that the issue for businesses isn’t a lack of software, but how data flows between tools and processes. By improving how data is captured, shared and used, businesses can significantly reduce manual work and operate much more efficiently without necessarily adding more complexity.
Even small changes like eliminating one small manual step can create a ripple effect, especially at the start of a workflow. Parse Software sees the biggest impact when businesses automate how data is collected, processed and used. When information is entered once, whether through a simple form or captured automatically by an app,

it can flow through the entire system, driving invoicing, payroll and reporting automatically. Eliminating that first manual step reduces errors and removes redundant work across the board, leading to the biggest efficiency gains.

Cleanliness is often viewed as a cosmetic concern, but it plays a direct role in how efficiently a business operates. A well-maintained facility reduces distractions, supports employee health and creates an environment where people can focus on their work. There is a clear connection between cleanliness and reliability. Inconsistent or reactive cleaning leads to complaints, rework and interruptions. A structured and consistent approach removes that friction. When managers can rely on their facility being clean every day, they can focus on running the business instead of solving avoidable problems. The impact is even greater in high traffic or complex environments.
Healthcare, education, industrial and large office spaces all require consistency and attention to detail. In these settings, cleaning supports safety, compliance and the longevity of the building. Minimizing disruption is also critical. Effective providers schedule work outside normal hours or complete projects in phases so operations continue without interruption. A provider with the right equipment and processes also reduces downtime by speeding up turnaround.
A clean facility is an operational advantage. It supports employees, builds confidence with customers, and allows businesses to run more smoothly day to day. When done right, it becomes something owners do not have to think about. That is exactly the point. Whether you need more reliable daily janitorial service or support with project work like ceiling, tile and wall or floor care, ServiceMaster PBM helps keeps your facility running the way it should.
There are countless ways to get your business running smoother than ever before, and often, the most impactful improvements come from addressing both the obvious and the overlooked. Whether it’s upgrading outdated software, resolving internet and connectivity issues, strengthening cybersecurity or simply creating a cleaner, more organized workspace, each step plays a role in building a more efficient and productive environment.
Efficiency isn’t just about speed, it’s about creating systems and spaces that allow your team to do their best work with fewer obstacles. When your technology runs seamlessly and your workplace supports focus and well-being, productivity naturally follows. Even small changes can lead to noticeable results, from improved workflow and communication to higher employee satisfaction and better client experiences.
The good news is you don’t have to tackle it all alone. All of the businesses and professionals listed above want to see your business succeed. By partnering with the right experts, you can identify areas for improvement and implement solutions that make a lasting difference.
At the end of the day, a more efficient office leads to stronger performance, happier employees and a better experience for everyone who walks through your doors. Taking the time to invest in these improvements now can set your business up for long-term success.

Everyone has a woman in their life whether it is a mother, sister, aunt, cousin, grandmother, great grandmother, friend, co-worker and no two are exactly alike. Just like their personal experiences their health journeys are uniquely their own.
With that being said, women’s health is evolving and so is the way women care for themselves. Now professionals are exploring how overall well-being is connected to mental, emotional and physical health and how they work closely together.
In this women’s health feature, take a closer look at all of the different approaches to and providers are supporting women in prioritizing whole body care not matter what life throws at them.

At YOUniq Health they believe that mental health is directly connected with the rest of the body. As a woman’s life changes so does her health and so should the way she cares for herself.
“Many symptoms women experience, like fatigue, brain fog, anxiety, or low motivation, are often dismissed as “just stress.” But these can also be linked to sleep problems, inflammation, or changes in metabolism. When

only the surface is treated, the root problem remains. That is why our approach focuses on the whole person,” Dr. Amarachi Ogbonnaya-Akpa, Clinical Director at YOUniq Health said.
Mental and physical health play hand in hand with each other and do not function separately. Dr. Ogbonnaya-Akpa they continue to influence one another every day.
For example, some psychiatric medications can affect weight, blood sugar and cholesterol. Instead of waiting for problems to develop YOUniq Health monitors these changes early to adjust care when needed. In the same way, conditions in the body can show up as mood changes, low energy, or difficulty focusing. Addressing both sides leads to better outcomes.
“Life changes can make things more challenging. Whether it’s pregnancy, postpartum recovery, menopause, a new diagnosis, loss of a loved one, divorce, or unexpected stress, these events can affect both emotional and physical health. We support patients by stabilizing symptoms, identifying what has changed in the body, and helping them rebuild healthy routines,” Dr. Ogbonnaya-Akpa.
YOUniq Health’s goal is to not only reduce symptoms but also ensure the long-term well-being of their patients.
“When care is tailored to the whole person, women are better prepared to navigate life with strength and clarity,” Dr. Ogbonnaya-Akpa
Whole body wellness is important when it comes to women’s health. Other clinics in Lincoln Nebraska, also offer specialized treatments and care, tailored to patient’s needs.

Katniss Clinic specializes in skin care, injectables such as Botox, and aesthetic and reconstructive surgery for women and men. The clinic is owned and operated by plastic and reconstructive surgeon Dr. Keli Kolegraff.
Dr. Kolegraff’s main goal is to deliver natural and confidence-boosting results that leave her patients feeling good about themselves. She is the only female plastic and reconstructive surgeon in Lincoln and one of only a handful in Nebraska.
“I want patients to feel comfortable talking to me about their concerns as someone who is genuinely concerned about their well-being,” Dr. Kolegraff said. “I am here to help patients look and feel their best. They can use their own standards to decide what is best for them and I will help them achieve their goals.”
Dr. Kolegraff believes all patients should prioritize age-appropriate health services and investments. This includes diet, exercise, stress-management, and even good skin care. She says that screenings with their primary care physician are important for establishing a routine for a patient’s overall health and she is highly in favor of hormone therapy options when the time is right.
With that being said, trends such as social media have made information about health much more accessible. Dr. Kolegraff thinks that patients are now more informed than ever and they are better able to advocate for themselves and their needs.
As women are becoming more proactive about their health both mentally and physically, many women would also benefit from physically therapy

Husker Rehab is a physical therapy clinic, where they focus on physical health and recovery for long-term wellbeing.
According to Husker Rehab the most common injuries and physical challenges when it comes to women is pelvic floor issues. These issues can affect the bladder, bowel and sexual functions. Some of the most frequently seen conditions are urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, pelvic floor dysfunction, chronic constipation, fecal incontinence, pelvic pain, dyspareunia and pain in pregnancy.
Pelvic physical therapy plays a vital role in women’s healthcare by helping prevent, manage, and treat common pelvic floor conditions.
“Individualized therapy plans focus on improving muscle strength, coordination, and relaxation through targeted exercises, manual techniques and education,” Michelle Spicka a doctor of physical therapy at Husker Rehab said. “These plans can also support recovery after pregnancy, childbirth, or surgery and improve quality of life by reducing pain and restoring functions to normal.”
Pelvic rehabilitation has evolved significantly across generations, reflecting growing awareness of women’s health needs and advances in medical knowledge. In the past, pelvic floor issues were often underreported or dismissed, with limited treatment options.
Today, there is more accessible information on early interventions and individualized care through pelvic physical therapy. Modern approaches such as social media recognize the importance of pelvic health at every life stage for women like adolescence, postpartum recovery, menopause and aging.
“Pelvic physical therapy is highly individualized, with treatment plans tailored to each patient’s specific symptoms, medical history, lifestyle and personal goals. The goal of pelvic physical therapy to is listen to the whole patient’s story and formulate a treatment plan based on the patient’s specific goals,” Spicka said.
Dr. Casey Bogenrief treats people looking to improve bone density through strengthening programs, reduce fall risk through balance training, improve mobility through functional movement, and manage pain through manual therapy and exercise. 1:1 service is especially beneficial for individuals experiencing frailty and/or cognitive deficits.

A Well Being offers hassle-free physical therapy, athletic training, medical fitness, health coaching and yoga. Services may be utilized separately or integrated. They offer a transparent payment system with no prior authorization, no physician referral required and no questionable bills. A Well Being offers minimal paperwork and quality care with effective results.
While physical health is incredibly important, mind, body and spirit are equally important factors in overall health. Women can do anything and endure so much throughout their lives but they shouldn’t have to.
When it comes to taking care of our health.” Dr. Casey Bogenrief, owner of A Well Being says to not wait.
She has a 3 step recommended plan for success. Step 1 is to pick a category whether that is nutrition, exercise, sleep, sunshine, water intake, social integration or decreased screen time.
Step 2 is to set a specific, measurable, achievable, and a relevant time bound (SMART) goal.
Lastly step 3 is what Dr. Casey calls finding your Habit-pair. In order to do this you need to perform your wellness activity around an activity you already do daily like brushing your teeth, eating breakfast, taking medication, etc.
“Once you achieve a goal in 1 category, expand or create goals in other categories and let the health benefits compound,” said Dr. Casey.
This growing demand for integrative, patient-centered care is exactly what clinics like K2 Holistic Health are designed to meet.
K2 Holistic Health was founded on the idea of bringing the best of the medical world, the best of the physical therapy world and the best of the chiropractic world, all integrated together under one roof, as they collaborate on their patients together to help bring about each patient’s best results. This philosophy helps set K2 Holistic Health apart from other clinics, and that philosophy—along with K2’s welcoming environment—are two of the reasons women most often cite when they are

asked why they come to K2 Holistic Health and why they refer other women as well.
At the core of K2 Holistic Health, is their passion to help patients regain their Kinetics (movement) and their Kinesthetics (the neurology behind movement), and this is where the two Ks in their name comes from. Said differently, if there is a limitation to your ability to move or to how your nerves feel, then that is what K2 is striving to reverse. K2 Holistic Health offers treatments for neck pain, back pain, joint pain (like hips and knees), neuropathy protocols, peptide therapy, physical therapy programs and chiropractic adjustments.
Rather than giving patients hydrocortisone injections which help short term pain but in the long term actually weaken and degenerate your joints further, or prescribing higher and higher doses of Gabapentin which makes a nerve just drowsy enough that you can’t feel what the nerve is trying to tell you while the neuropathy continues to worsen, K2 does a myriad of treatments to actually address these issues, including Hylajel injections, PRP, neuropathy protocols and hormones/peptides.
Regarding the growing area of peptide use, K2 Holistic Health points out that virtually all of human pathology is the final result of a very simple process: pathogens, poor diet and sedentary lifestyle all lead to these three physiological failures of systemic inflammation, insulin resistance and mitochondrial dysfunction. K2 offers medical grade peptides with physician oversight to specifically target these very causes and failures.
When asked what area of women’s health specifically is being failed by the medical world, Jason Howe (the primary medical provider and CEO of K2 Holistic Health) replied “Women need testosterone levels too. While the ideal ranges are very different between genders, most people don’t know how much testosterone can help females too by improving their motivation, focus, anxiety, depression, sleep quality, mood stabilization and libido. Balancing a woman’s hormones is more than just balancing progesterone
and estradiol. Testosterone at low doses can be life changing for women.”
If you are tired of the same traditional orthopedic and neuropathy medications, or if you are tired of feeling older than you should be feeling, then K2 Holistic Health is waiting to help you too.

Though, women’s health is an incredibly significant topic, so is training women for medical crises.
At New View Training they prioritize making trainees feel confident with themselves and the care they provide, especially at times when they may feel helpless or unsure.
According to the American Heart Association, women tend to be the ones to give CPR in the home setting. However, they also tend to struggle more with their confidence when medical emergencies arise.

At New View Training they see this firsthand. Women who take their training often share how their experiences have helped lessen anxiety in crisis, due to learning practical skills they can always rely on.
“Preparedness transforms fear into confidence and uncertainty into action, an invaluable tool for caregivers who are often the first ones on the scene,” Bethany Clark, Owner, President and Educator of New View Training said.
They offer a wide range of training, including CPR, AED, and First Aid covering choking, bleeding, fractures, allergic reactions and medical emergencies. They also provide emergency preparedness

education for specific settings like homes, workplaces and community settings.
“Our classes are practical, hands on, and designed to meet people where they are, whether that’s a parent wanting to protect their children, a caregiver supporting an aging parent, or a professional responsible for others’ safety,” said Clark. “We focus on scenarios people are most likely to encounter, not just textbook examples.”
Medical crises call for action, the first few moments are often the most critical to the person’s health. Knowing what to do in these situations with ease can save someone’s life.
While given the tools to help strengthen the body and medical support, staying active is a key aspect for overall well being.

Lincoln Running Company is a locally family-owned business, run by the Rogers family since 1976. Their mission is to provide customers with a shopping experience tailored to finding the perfect match for their needs. This includes not only running shoes but also education on nutrition, injury prevention, training and more.
“Getting the proper fit is important for women - in their shoes and apparel,” said Ann Ringlein the manager of Lincoln Running Company. “Women are not small men and need shoes and apparel made to fit them. Comfort is key when starting back up and this is where it starts.”
They believe that once customers find the perfect fit the rest falls into place, moving the body can heal the mind. While running is great for mental and physical health doing it outside has greater benefits.
However once the training begins Lincoln Running recommends having more than one running buddy. Building a network can help people stay more consistent, motivated and dedicated to staying on track. Their store offers a variety of running classes, including Beginner’s Luck in the summer, Fall Training that begins in August, Spring training that starts in January and a Wednesday Cookie Company run. Running with groups provides a safe and comfortable environment for women, and we offer that year-round,” said Ringlein.
Women’s health is no longer one-size fits all solutions, every woman and any stage of life requires different care and support.
Whether they need physical therapy, hormone balancing, holistic approaches, bone density strengthening or even just to feel confident, there are professionals right here in the heart of Lincoln ready to support their needs to find what is best for them.

Many people go to bed at night and dream about their perfect home. Perhaps yours is big, perhaps it’s small, maybe it has a clean kitchen or a tiled bathroom, or maybe the back yard is green and well-lit when the sun sets. Maybe it’s a brand new house, or maybe it’s the house you’ve been in all along.
From stone floors to a green yard to a spotless living room to a trustworthy mortgage lender, there are many actionable steps that you can take to bring you closer to a future in a house that you love. With some of Lincoln’s finest local services, your house can easily become your dream home, no matter the dream.

Jason Willet
It doesn’t always take a brand new house to make a dream home; sometimes, your dream home is right under your nose. Willet Construction, a trusted name in Lincoln’s remodeling industry, specializes in bringing their customer’s visions to life. They offer a multitude of both indoor and outdoor remodeling projects, though they find that some of their most popular remodel projects are kitchens, bathrooms, and exteriors.
The team at Willet construction suggests a couple of factors for consideration when looking to remodel. Firstly, the cost of your dream home can quickly start adding up. To mitigate this, they suggest thinking about the future: will the changes you make to your present home get recouped later when you move? Along with this, Willet Construction emphasizes the importance of finding
a contractor who will be upfront and specific about all of their products in the bid. When the project is completed there should be no surprises in your cost.
Secondly, your relationship with a contractor is essential to getting the results you want; meeting with each contractor to get a feel as to how well you can work together is very important. Something to look out for is the contractor’s reputation with the Building & Safety Department - do they obtain the required permits, meaning their work is inspected for safety and quality? Do they use high quality products in your home, or only the cheapest available? Placing consideration on these questions will help you find a contractor you can trust to bring your vision to life.
Finally, Willet Construction suggests their customers consider how long they may be inconvenienced during the project, particularly during kitchen and bathroom remodels. It may take several weeks for your dream home to be brought to life, so it is important to consider potential workarounds for commonly used rooms in the house. With Willet Construction, you can be sure to know when your project will start and when it will end. They schedule each project out so you know who will be in your home and when during the project. While hiccups can occur, or a trade might finish earlier than the time allotted, you can trust Willet Construction to keep you up to date.
To get started on your remodel, call Willet Construction! They will walk you through each step of your remodel, from design to completion. Once you have outlined your finances, Willet Construction can help you make decisions based on your budget. No matter your remodeling needs, you can rely on Willet Construction to bring you closer to the home you’ve been dreaming of.

A tidy, organized space reduces stress, helps you feel more in control of your environment, and creates a welcoming atmosphere for both family and guests. It also saves time; instead of spending your evenings cleaning, you can relax and enjoy your home.
Not only can a clean space benefit your mental well-being, but it can change the feel of a home. By tackling built-up dust, grime,
and hard-to-reach areas, a deep clean brightens every room and restores a fresh, inviting scent. If putting large amounts of money towards a new home or extreme renovations is not an option, New Start Cleaning’s affordable services is a great way to turn the space that you have into something that feels brand new.

Home maintenance and restoration is just as important as renovation when it comes to changing the look of your home to better match your dreams. Lifetime Stone Restoration is a locally owned and operated business that focuses on stone restoration, bringing to life what was already there. With the use of modern equipment and expertise, Lifetime Stone Restoration can fix years of wear and tear in stone floors and countertops, tile, grout, and showers.

Though all of their services are well regarded in the community, the team at Lifetime Stone Restoration gets the most compliments about their work on stone floor and counter damage. Even newly built homes get damages, and Lifetime Stone Restoration makes them look like new. Floor restoration of floors from the 60’s-70’s are also very popular; when they are cleaned and refinished,

clients often remark that it looks like a completely different floor. Lifetime Stone Restoration reflects that there are almost too many reasons to list for why it’s a better idea to restore the stone in their homes rather than replace them. Firstly, they note it is cheaper to restore than to replace. If finances are a struggle, then they recommend this service as a less expensive option for freshening up your home. Secondly, restoration is a faster process than replacing.
Not only this, but you can walk right on the surface immediately after the job is finished, cutting the time down even more. Finally, the original installation of stone could be a rarity; for instance, the stone itself may not be quarried any more, or it may have been installed in a pattern unique to its time. Stone restoration keeps the magic of a period piece alive.
If the floors of your dream home exist under years of grime or damage, Lifetime Stone Restoration is the place to call. With their budget-friendly professional services, your floors can look like a dream. When you see what is possible with Lifetime Stone Restoration, you will be happier that you trusted the process and kept the original product.

It’s often the little things that turn a house into a dream home; for instance, a home isn’t complete without practical lighting and well placed outlets. For all of your dream electrical needs, you can rely on the expertise of Summit Electric.

Summit Electric reflects on some of the electrical trends they’re seeing in upscale homes. Homeowners are starting to focus more on lighting as both a design feature and a functional part of how they live in the space. For instance, homeowners are beginning to layer their lighting rather than relying on overhead lighting alone – giving the space a softer and more intentional feel. A recent client favorite, they note, is under-countertop lighting, where LED panels shine through translucent stone or quartz to create a warm, subtle glow, particularly in the evenings.
Along with using lighting to create gentler, more inviting spaces, Summit Electric is able to upgrade service panels to support today’s increasing power demands, as well as increasing the amount of outlets and dedicated charging areas to keep up with the number of devices used throughout the home. On remodels and new builds, there’s a clear shift toward placing outlets in practical, high-use areas such as garages, kitchens, and outdoor living spaces so the home functions the way people actually live day to day. They emphasize the importance of adding wholehome surge protection to go along with these upgrades; it can protect all the electronics that keep adding up in a house without relying on power strips, which have been known to cause fires. Summit Electric tends to guide homeowners toward solutions that are reliable and long-lasting. Technology changes quickly, and they want to make sure what’s installed today will still be practical and serviceable years down the road.
Summit Electric can help bring a homeowner’s vision to life by making sure the electrical plan actually supports how they’re going to live in the space—not just how it looks on paper. That means asking the right questions early and thinking through details that are easy to miss, but make a practical difference in how you use each room day to day. At the end of the day, their goal is simple: do the job right so everything just works.

A mother is often the steady presence behind life’s biggest and smallest moments, from the very beginning and through every stage that follows. Mother’s Day is a chance to pause and show appreciation for everything she’s poured into the people around her.
Celebrating doesn’t have to be complicated. It might look like a bouquet of her favorite flowers, a meaningful piece of jewelry, or simply time spent together doing something she loves. And while many moms will insist they don’t need
anything, often saying your presence is enough, this is the perfect opportunity to go a step further.
This year, consider surprising her anyway. Thoughtful gestures, big or small, go a long way and Lincoln offers plenty of ways to make her feel truly celebrated.
When it comes to Mother’s Day, it’s rarely about the biggest gift. It’s about finding something that actually means something, something she’ll wear, keep and think of you when she does.

For more than 120 years, Sartor Hamann has been part of those kinds of moments. Not just the big ones, but the everyday ones that turn into memories over time. The pieces families tend to choose for Mother’s Day aren’t flashy or complicated. They’re the classics: diamond studs, a simple gold bracelet or a watch she can wear every day. The kind of jewelry that quietly becomes part of her life and a part of her every day routine.
What makes it special is the meaning behind it. Sometimes it’s engraving a date or a name. Sometimes it’s redesigning something that’s been sitting in a jewelry box for years and giving it new life. Sometimes it’s starting something entirely new that, years from now, gets passed down again.
At Sartor Hamann, that long-term thinking is part of the experience. With in-house jewelers who have spent decades at the bench, it’s not just about helping you choose something, it’s about taking care of it over time, cleaning it, resizing it and repairing it when needed.
That’s why so many families keep coming back. One year it’s a Mother’s Day gift. A few years later it’s a graduation. Then an engagement. Then an anniversary. The pieces change, but the meaning behind them doesn’t.

Mother’s Day is the perfect time to give a gift that feels as meaningful and lasting as the woman receiving it and STATUS HAYMARKET offers just that.
Located in the heart of Lincoln’s Historic Haymarket District, STATUS HAYMARKET is more than a boutique. It’s a destination for thoughtful, elevated gifting. Founded by Cassie Smidt, the shop is rooted in the idea of sustainable luxury, featuring a curated collection

of designer handbags, jewelry and standout clothing pieces that feel both special and intentional.

What makes it especially fitting for Mother’s Day is the intention behind it all. Cassie’s mission is to help women see their own worth and invest in themselves, something many mothers don’t often prioritize. Whether it’s a timeless handbag she’ll carry for years, a unique piece of jewelry, or a standout outfit she wouldn’t normally splurge on, these are gifts that say more than “thank you”, they say “you deserve this.”
Make your mom feel the love she has shown you since day 1 with a vintage purse or handbag, something as unique as her.
With personal styling, a welcoming atmosphere and pieces you won’t find everywhere else, STATUS HAYMARKET makes it easy to find something that truly reflects her style and significance.
There is an option for every mother, whether she has everything, says she wants nothing or just wants to be with you. Our mothers are who we turn to when things feel hopeless, the ones we celebrate every victory with, big or small, and the ones we could imagine living without.
So this mother’s day, show your mom how much she truly means to you and keep it up year after year because she sure did.
