Will anything help with the way I am feeling?
When someone has died it can affect you in many different ways
My thoughts and feelings have changed I can’t concentrate How my body is feeling Things are different at home or school Everything feels different I feel nothing good will happen again It’s difficult to get used to how things are now How will I manage all this change? Remember, it is normal to feel a mix of emotions. It may be helpful to talk with someone you can trust - a family member, friend or member of staff at school.
How long will these feelings last? Sadness, anger, guilt and hurt are all very normal feelings you may feel when somebody has died. These feelings will not go away overnight. How you feel is unique to you. It is normal for your feelings to come and go. You may find that things gradually feel better over time.
I feel as though nobody understands I’m the only person in the world who is feeling this way Nobody else could possibly understand I don’t want to upset anybody else by sharing my feelings When somebody has died, other people may be finding things difficult too. It is important to share your thoughts and feelings with each other, even when it may feel too difficult. Although not everybody will understand how you are feeling, you may be surprised how many people will.
Is there anything that can help me?
I kept a diary and wrote down my thoughts and feelings
I made a CD with all their favourite songs
I listened to their favourite music I blew bubbles with a special thought into the wind
