StreetWise marks Mother's Day by talking to three organizations of doulas, who have been compared to perinatal health navigators, to advocates for maternal and infant health -- sometimes, even, to angels -- for the emotional support they give to women before, during, and after childbirth. Twin bills before the Illinois General Assembly would extend doula coverage for a longer period in an effort to reduce the Black-white maternal mortality disparities.
