The theme ‘For all, with all’ reflects a call to unity, inclusivity and shared purpose, a reminder that our strength as a community lies in standing together and supporting one another. It echoes the message of Ephesians 6:13, ‘Put on the full armour of God,’ which urges believers to clothe themselves in faith, truth, righteousness and peace so they may face the changes of the world with courage and integrity. The imagery accompanying this theme visually represents this collective strength; the figures are not isolated warriors but members of one body, symbolising solidarity, compassion and mutual protection. The armour is not merely individual defence; it becomes a shared expression of God’s presence working for all people who seek justice, mercy and love. Together, the theme and the Scripture reminds us that faith is lived not in isolation but in communion, standing side by side, strengthened by God and by one another.

Principal’s Welcome As autumn settles across our community, it provides a wonderful opportunity to reflect on what has been an inspiring and productive year so far. Our students have continued to embrace learning with enthusiasm, demonstrating resilience, creativity and a commitment to growth both inside and outside the classroom. The many achievements across academics, sport, culture and service have been a source of great pride for our school.
What stood out most was the strong sense of hope, faith and community that exists across our network, despite the diverse cultural and social contexts in which these schools operate. The experience reinforced the importance of our shared mission and the values that unite us. I returned with a deeper appreciation of the opportunities we enjoy and a renewed commitment to ensuring our students develop as compassionate, globally minded young people.
A particular highlight of my year was the opportunity to travel to Peru and Argentina through Edmund Rice Education Beyond Borders (EREBB). This experience was both professionally enriching and personally inspiring. Visiting Edmund Rice schools and communities across the region provided a unique insight into the global Edmund Rice family and the powerful impact of education in transforming lives.

Celebrating Our High Achievers Class of 2025 HSC High Achievers Congratulations to the Class of 2025 on achieving excellent results in the 2025 Higher School Certificate (HSC) results. Among this year’s HSC cohort, 4 students were named All-Round Achievers, having attained a top band result in 10 or more units. A special congratulations goes to Adam Fitrzyk, who achieved the College’s top ATAR of 99.05. We also congratulate Lachlan Staber, who placed 5th in the State, and Anthony Parissis, who placed 7th in the State, both for English Extension 2. The ATAR results of the Class of 2025 are: •

HSC High Achiever’s Recognition and Symposium The 2025 HSC results were celebrated at the High Achievers Assembly and Symposium on Thursday 5 February at The Concourse. This special occasion acknowledged the hard work and dedication of students across a range of academic and cocurricular subjects, including our Year 11 accelerants, who achieved a Band 6. Our 2025 Vice Captain, Lachlan Staber, stepped up to speak on behalf of the 2025 College Dux, Adam Fitrzyk. Lachlan shared
thoughtful advice about creating a dedicated time and space to study, and reminded students that there is no single ‘right’ way to learn, everyone studies differently. Following the assembly, Year 11 and 12 students remained for a learning symposium, where they had the opportunity to ask questions to our high achievers about what led to their success. These valuable insights will give current students a head start as they begin their own HSC journey.
2025 Annual Awards Ceremony The 2025 school year concluded on Wednesday 3 December with the Year 5 - 10 Annual Awards Presentation at the St Pius X College Oxford Falls Campus. This is an opportunity for the College to acknowledge and celebrate the academic success of so many young men. These awards are a testament not only to academic excellence but also to the perseverance, resilience, and commitment to personal growth demonstrated throughout the year

Celebrating Our 2026 Scholarship Recipients During Assembly on Wednesday 11 March 2026, the College recognised the Year 8, 9, 10 and 11 students who received an Academic Scholarship for 2026, awarded for their outstanding commitment to learning throughout 2025. These scholarships acknowledge far more than grades. They celebrate the perseverance, curiosity, and disciplined approach each recipient brings to their studies on a daily basis. Each of these young men has shown consistency in their effort, a willingness to challenge themselves, and a genuine desire to grow as learners. Their achievements reflect not only their personal dedication but also the support of their families and the guidance of their teachers. We are incredibly proud of our scholarship recipients and the example they set for the wider College community. Open to all students, the Annexe offers access to tutors who assist with homework, assignments, and exam preparation, helping students gain confidence and improve their understanding. The program also encourages independent learning, organisation, and effective study routines. By attending regularly, students develop discipline, reduce assessment stress, and feel more prepared for their academic journey.
Celebrating Success HSC Selection Young Writers Showcase We are delighted to celebrate the achievement of Anthony Parissis, our 2025 School Captain, who has been selected for publication for his English Extension 2 Major Work, a short fiction piece titled ‘The delicate art of a funeral zeibekiko.’ This remarkable accomplishment is a testament to Anthony’s creativity, dedication and talent as a writer. To have his work recognised and published is an outstanding achievement and one of which he should be immensely proud. Congratulations, Anthony, on becoming a published author, an extraordinary milestone and a wonderful inspiration to our school community.
Smart Expressions 2026 St Pius X College was well represented at the opening of Smart Expressions at the Concourse Art Space on Thursday 5 March. Visual Arts staff, Ms Watson and a number of 2025 HSC students attended. Smart Expressions is an annual exhibition of students from local high schools featuring their HSC artworks. The College was represented by the creative works of Lucas McNally, Jordan Moore, George Stewart and Sergio Vincenzo. The exhibition was opened by Willoughby Mayor, Tanya Taylor who spoke glowingly about the artworks and the importance of developing imagination in young people for work, study and life.

Faith and Identity ACU Forum on Antisemitism in Schools Three Year 12 students attended the ACU Forum addressing antisemitism in schools, where students from multiple schools came together to discuss key issues surrounding Jewish hatred and discrimination. The forum marked the 60-year anniversary of Nostra Aetate, a significant Church document that sought to heal divisions between Christians and Jews. Nostra Aetate was written to end antisemitism among Christians, acknowledging that for centuries the Catholic Church had wrongly taught that Jews were responsible for the death of Jesus. During the discussion, several key questions were raised, including: ‘Can you be pro-Jewish but anti-Israel?’, and ‘What does antisemitism look like in Australian schools today?’ We also explored what student representatives can do to make a difference. It was insightful to hear about initiatives such as the Australian Special Envoy to Combat Antisemitism’s 13-point plan to address Jewish hatred. A recurring theme throughout the day was the growing impact of social media in spreading rumours, stereotypes, and misinformation that fuel hatred. Overall, the experience was both thought-provoking and eyeopening. It helped us better understand what antisemitism in schools can look like and, importantly, how we can change our behaviour to actively stand against it. by Jack Manning-O’Donnell, Year 12
EREBB Global Youth Dialogue Fourteen students participated in an international Zoom meeting with students from 14 countries around the world including Canada, USA, Peru, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Kenya, Liberia, Ireland, England, India, and Australia (Brisbane, Canberra, Wollongong, Adelaide, Melbourne). Br David Silva, the Global Deputy Congregational Leader of the Christian Brothers, spoke from Rome about Edmund Rice who heard, saw and gave. 12 PIUS InProfile | Autumn 2026
Students then went into breakout rooms with other students from around the world and were able to talk about student led initiatives running in a variety of schools. It was wonderful to see the excitement and hear the chatter in the room. We look forward to more engagement in the future with brother schools around the globe.
Christmas Nativity On Tuesday 2 December 2025, the yard of St Pius X College was transformed into Bethlehem 2,000 years ago, as we celebrated the Holy season with a truly spectacular liturgy. To bring the beautiful story of Christ’s birth to life, students and staff from St Pius X, Mercy Catholic College, Willoughby Girls High, and St Vincent’s College came together to present a heartfelt and carefully crafted Nativity pageant. Enjoying the performance were not only the St Pius X staff and students but those from Mercy Catholic College, Our Lady of Dolours Catholic Primary School and St Augustine’s College. From the adoration of the Magi and the shepherds to the moving portrayal of the Holy Family, every moment felt incredibly real, complete with stunning costumes, a donkey, sheep, and even real camels. The entire experience was a vivid reminder of the true meaning of Christmas and a joyful way to begin our Advent journey.
2026 Commencement Mass Held on 11 February at the Oxford Falls Campus, we gathered to celebrate our College Commencement Mass. Celebrated by Fr David Ranson, we unpacked together the student theme for 2026 ‘For all, with all’ along with our scripture focus: ‘Put on the full armour of God’, Ephesians 6:13. Through art, music, movement and prayer we offered the hopes and aspirations of our community to God for the year ahead.
Extraordinary Ministers of Communion Training Friday, 13 March, Fr David trained 16 Year 11 students to be Extraordinary Ministers of Communion. This is an important ministry within the Church to ensure that all members of our community are able to share Liturgical experiences. Fr David explained the importance of the Eucharist by affirming that when we receive the body of Christ, we are doing this in communion with other people because the very idea of the resurrection of Christ is a bursting forth, and Jesus’s body becomes our body. We become the body of Christ.
Holy Week The last week of Term 1 was Holy Week, one of the most important times in the Church calendar. A time when we are able to follow the final steps of Jesus’s earthly life and an opportunity to pause in prayer, reflection and gratitude for the lives we have as a result of the sacrifices made by Jesus. We marked this week at school with our Lenten Liturgies. The theme of our liturgies this year was the washing of the feet. It was a wonderful reminder of the servant leadership shown by Jesus and a reminder that in life, we are all seen as equal. Whether it be in the classroom, on the sporting field, or in our families, showing love and compassion for all and remaining humble ensure that we are living out our best Christian lives. Remembrance Day
On 11 November, St Pius X College commemorated Remembrance Day with a special assembly honouring those who have served and sacrificed in defence of our nation. We were privileged to welcome veterans, friends of the College, ex-student veterans, and the family of Private
Jacob De Sisto (KIA 1945), who laid a wreath in his memory. The commemorative address was delivered by Mr Pat Rogers, and the ceremony included the laying of wreaths, a bagpiper, and the Act of Remembrance, paying tribute to all who have given their lives in service. Lest We Forget.
Red Dirt Immersion The 2026 Red Dirt Immersion was a tremendous success, providing students with countless opportunities to challenge themselves, broaden their perspectives, and grow both personally and spiritually. Throughout the journey, they had the privilege of engaging with local Aboriginal communities, learning from their rich culture and traditions, and visiting several schools across the region. Time spent on immersion offers a unique opportunity for reflection, connection, and personal growth. Students formed new friendships, strengthened existing bonds, and gained valuable insights through shared experiences. 14 PIUS InProfile | Autumn 2026
Highlights of the trip included attending Mass in Coonabarabran, visiting significant Indigenous sites, and exploring the natural beauty of the Australian landscape through a range of walks and hikes. Sincere thanks to the dedicated staff who accompanied the group. Special recognition goes to Mr D, whose outstanding organisation, leadership and meticulous attention to detail ensured the programme’s success. We are also deeply grateful to Mrs S, Mr K, Mr B, Mr C, Mr D and Mr S for their unwavering commitment, support and generosity throughout the experience.
2025 Christmas Appeal
Year 10 Immersions
Through our 1 Peter 4:10 Christmas Appeal, our College community shared God’s grace with others through simple, generous acts which have brought hope and dignity to those in need.
In Term 4, 2025, our Year 10 students enjoyed a range of activities as they participated in their immersions throughout the state. Throughout the immersions, 160 students served clients with disabilities or the homeless, rehabilitated a rainforest, learnt from elders at sacred sites and served alongside Aboriginal students in remote communities.
Thank you to each family and student who so generously provided a hamper or gift in support of this appeal. The gifts were handed out at the Year 10 immersions and all recipients were extremely grateful for the support and love we have shown them.
It was heartening to see the program spread its wings and have both students and staff witness the face of God in their neighbour, each other, and in creation. It is a joy that we are collectively struggling to find words to express.
Kamilaroi Immersion Year 10 students on the Kamilaroi Immersion have learned on and through country. They have learned from elders and from specialist staff from Armidale Catholic Schools about culture and how to create culturally rich school environments. They returned committed to sharing this knowledge and continuing our commitment to a future as one mob.

James Fellowship The James Fellowship is a scholarship opportunity for Professional Learning that supports the development of high-quality education. The Fellowship is generously provided by Mr Bill James (an Old Boy of the College,) and his wife Elizabeth James, who are passionate about improving the education of our young men by providing funding for teachers to undertake learning opportunities. We were fortunate to visit Turkey and London as one of the 2026 recipients. Although our time in Turkey was brief, the experience was overwhelmingly rich and educational. Turkey’s central position - geographically, culturally, in religion and mythology - makes it an essential place to visit for those interested in both the study of religion and literature. Our entire trip was characterised mostly by awe-struck gazing. Starting with the beauty of the Dolmabahce Palace, we were reminded of the importance of the Ottoman Empire in history. Not just a dusty reference in a WWI text book, the opulence and influence of the Empire were evident in every room we passed through. Once on the road, we went back in time and visited some of the many historical moments that Turkey has to offer. We arrived in Gallipoli five days before Anzac Day, and the atmosphere was already palpable. There is something in the land of this narrow strip of beach that emanates its importance - no doubt as a result of the many lives lost there. We spent a sombre afternoon walking through the war graves and hearing about the numerous attempts to gain control of the Dardanelles. Today, it is a comfortable ferry ride to Canakkale, and we happened to be there on a beautiful sunny day. No wonder the diggers would regularly swim there.
Ephesus
Anzac Cove
The further along the road we went, the further back in time we seemed to go. First to Ephesus, an unbelievably well-preserved Roman metropolis. With our incredible tour guide, Esra, we barely needed to use our imaginations to see the early Christians living in this thriving city, with its bath houses, huge markets, and an impressive library. Further down the road and more centuries back we went to the city of Troy. The horse is new, but the nine layers of the cities that have been on this site since antiquity certainly were not. We are incredibly grateful for the opportunity to see this part of the world up close, and to the James Fellowship for making it possible. What did we learn? Something that has become increasingly important to show our students and to remind ourselves, that real learning is lifelong (it doesn’t end with our school years) and connected to understanding our real world, its people and its history - and that’s something AI cannot replace. White Ribbon Day At our Assembly on 26 November 2025, we were privileged to welcome student leaders from Mercy Catholic College who delivered a powerful and thought-provoking presentation for White Ribbon Day. As part of a global movement that encourages men and boys to help end violence against women, the students spoke about the importance of respectful relationships, responsibility, and the role each of us can play in creating safer communities. Their message resonated strongly with
our College community and held the attention of the entire assembly. White Ribbon Day is more than a campaign, it is a reminder that respect, kindness, and courage matter. While we cannot change the tragedies of the past, we can all contribute to a future where every person feels safe, valued, and respected. By choosing respect in our words and actions, we each have the power to make a positive difference.
Peer Support The Peer Support Program commenced on Monday 2 February 2026 to support students’ transition into Year 5 and Year 7 at St Pius X. The program ran on a weekly rotation with Year 11 Peer Support Leaders mentoring a group of Year 5 or 7 students to develop the social, emotional and learning skills required for successfully negotiating their commencement of learning across the school year. The program concluded in Term 2, with a session and lunch at Beauchamp Park.
Movember: More Than a Moustache Movember is a global movement that raises awareness of men’s health issues, including mental health, suicide prevention, prostate cancer, and testicular cancer. At St Pius X College, we proudly support Movember through our staff team, Slug Posse X, now in its 11th year. The team brings together staff who show up, speak up, and support our students by promoting openness, connection, and wellbeing. Movember is about more than fundraising, it’s about participation. Whether it’s growing a Mo, walking a few extra kilometres, or starting an important conversation, every action helps build a stronger culture of care within our College community. Together, we can raise awareness, reduce stigma, and remind those around us that support is always available. 18 PIUS InProfile | Autumn 2026
International Women’s Day On 4 March 2026, St Pius X College proudly celebrated International Women’s Day (8 March), embracing the 2026 theme, ‘Give to Gain.’ This year’s theme encouraged students to reflect on how offering support, respect, opportunity and advocacy for women contributes to a stronger, fairer and more inclusive community for everyone. The day commenced with a special assembly featuring an engaging Q&A session with the student leaders of Mercy Catholic College. In an interview-style format, students had the opportunity to hear directly from these inspiring young women about leadership, resilience and the importance of empowering others. Following the assembly, students participated in yeargroup activities exploring the achievements, contributions and ongoing challenges faced by women in society. Guided by our Junior SRC representatives, discussions focused on the ways we can actively provide support, solidarity and find opportunity to create a more equitable future. The morning concluded with our student leaders hosting morning tea for Mercy Catholic College students and staff. Harmony Week at the College On Wednesday 18 March the College celebrated Harmony Week at assembly, led by our Cultural Prefects and supported by our Wellbeing Prefects. It was a meaningful reminder of this year’s message #EveryoneBelongs. We celebrated the rich diversity of cultures that shape Australia, seen in our families, our playground, and our wider community. We reflected on the importance of inclusivity, respect, and harmony.
In times of conflict, harmony is something we must actively choose. It calls us to show compassion, stand in solidarity, and uphold the dignity of every person. Harmony requires action, speaking up, speaking kindly, and building an inclusive community grounded in peace. This is not just a message for one day or one week, but a call to live with purpose every day.

Cocurricular – Sports Junior Swimming Carnival On Thursday 12 February 2026, the Junior School Swimming Carnival was held at Macquarie University Sports and Aquatic Centre. Years 5, 6 and 7 students brought the fire, passion and unstoppable team spirit, creating an electric atmosphere from start to finish. Senior Swimming Carnival On Thursday 20 November 2025, the Senior School gathered at Lane Cove Aquatic Centre for the annual Senior Swimming Carnival. With perfect weather, outstanding participation and plenty of Pius Pride on display, the day was a great success. Congratulations to all students who took part and contributed to the vibrant atmosphere, and a special congratulations to Rice House for taking home the overall championship trophy. Cricket Premiership Winners Congratulations to our 1st XI who claimed the ISA Division 1 Shield after a strong and composed performance in the Final, defeating St Patrick’s College 1st XI. This victory capped off an exceptional season for St Pius X, who dropped only one match throughout their entire campaign – a testament to their consistency, depth, and disciplined style of play.

Christian Brothers Swimming Carnival On the evening of Friday 6 March, the St Pius X College Swimming Squad competed at the 41st Annual Christian Brothers Carnival at Cranbrook School. The team performed brilliantly, with Captain Archer Ferguson swimming a personal best in the 100m Freestyle. Run2Cure 5km Fun Run On Sunday 29 March, St Pius X students took on the Run2Cure 5km Fun Run, making the most of perfect running conditions.
These results placed St Pius X 4th overall, a fantastic effort from the whole squad.

ISA Basketball Grand Final Day SPX Basketball was proudly represented at the ISA Grand Final Day held at Penrith Valley Sports Centre on Saturday 7 March. Results: 14Ds defeated their opponents 33–29 17Ds fought hard but were defeated 29–17 3rds claimed the premiership with a 29–22 victory

Congratulations to our Sporting Heroes
Year 8 student Jack Treder enjoyed an outstanding water polo season, helping his team claim the Water Polo NSW MU14As Summer Metro Grand Final title before securing a bronze medal at the 2025 Australian Youth Water Polo Championships in Perth.
Andrew He, Year 6 achieved outstanding success at the IPSHA Swimming Championships, qualifying to rep-resent IPSHA at the CIS Swimming Carnival following an exceptional performance in the 50m Breaststroke.
Caleb Heng, Year 9 achieved outstanding success at the Sydney School Boys and Girls Tennis Event in North West Sydney, winning both the Champion Mixed Teams title and the Year 9 Boys Doubles title without dropping a single set throughout the tournament.
Year 9 student James Mikan delivered an outstanding performance at the NSW Junior Athletics Championships (12–15 March), winning gold medals in the 15 Years Boys Long Jump (6.72m), Triple Jump (12.95m) and 300m Hurdles (40.23), as well as a silver medal in the Senior Boys Relay.
Year 9 student Hunter Austin produced an excellent performance at the NSW Junior Athletics Championships (12–15 March), earning a silver medal in the 15 Years Boys Shot Put with a throw of 15.57m.
Cristiano Calcarao, Year 9 enjoyed a stellar campaign at the NSW Junior Athletics Championships (12–15 March), earning a silver medal in the 15 Years Boys 3000m with an impressive time of 9:10.70.

Archie Wragge, Year 10 represented NSW Schoolboys U15, finishing as leading run scorer at the National Championships in Bunbury, WA, earning All Australian School Team selection after progressing through ISA and CIS Pathways, and excelling for both the ISA Opens and College 1st XI.
Year 8 student Matthew Krizan finished 1st in the 1213 years age group at the Run2CureAU 5km Fun Run, achieving an impressive time of 18:29. Matthew was part of a strong St Pius X College contingent that represented the College with pride.
Tommy Kay, Year 5 (2025) proudly represented PSSA at the National Athletics Championships in Canberra, claiming first place in the Tetrathlon, a silver medal in Shot Put, and a place in the Discus final in an outstanding all-round performance.
Jack Cross, Year 5 (2025) proudly represented PSSA at the National Athletics Championships in Canberra, achieving an impressive 8th-place finish in the Long Jump against some of the nation’s best young athletes.
Year 6 student Marc Lafontaine excelled at the IPSHA Basketball Trials, earning selection in the IPSHA Basketball Team and securing the opportunity to compete at the CIS Basketball Championships.

Commencement Mass
The Drama Cocurricular Showcase went off with a bang in November, 2025. Over 50 talented students took to the stage in the Sarto Centre, performing to a packed and enthusiastic crowd.
The 2026 Performing Arts year began on an inspiring note, with our Commencement Mass. The Drumline and Celebration Orchestra opened with an energetic performance of Awesome God, while the Senior Chorale led the congregation in joyful singing. A special highlight was Year 7 student Louis Park, who served as cantor for the Responsorial Psalm with confidence and a beautiful vocal tone.
A huge congratulations to all our performers from Years 5-12, and to our amazing Performing Arts Captains who did a fantastic job as MCs for the evening.
Christmas Twilight Concert On Friday 21 November, the College came alive for the annual Christmas Twilight Concert. Despite the rain, families and friends turned out in large numbers to enjoy an evening of festive celebrations, featuring outstanding performances from the College’s many bands and ensembles, as well as a variety of delicious food and treats. 24 PIUS InProfile | Autumn 2026
The night was filled with joy and Christmas spirit, showcasing a wonderful selection of festive repertoire across a diverse range of musical styles and genres. It was a memorable evening that celebrated the talents of our students and provided enjoyable entertainment for the whole family.
Exploring Beyond the Classroom Snowy Hike 2025 The annual Year 11 Snowy Hike which took place in the last week of November 2025 was another great success. We had 55 students, 8 Staff and 2 Volunteer Old Boys complete the 5 day hike from Round Mountain to Thredbo via Mt Jagungal and Mt Kosciusko. As with most years, 2025 had its own unique challenges, sub zero temperatures, hail and snow. The students embraced the challenging conditions and were a credit to all. This transformative experience will stay with them forever, etched in their memories as a defining moment of personal growth. Congratulations also go to our Silver Duke of Edinburgh participants for completing their Adventurous Journey as part of the hike. Thank you to the P&F and the College Leadership Team for their support of this hike. Thank you also to the staff and volunteers for your endless goodwill and support.
Fiji Rugby Tour A highlight of the April holidays was the Fiji Rugby Tour, which provided a group of Year 9 and 10 students with a unique opportunity to experience rugby in one of the world’s most passionate rugby nations. The tour combined the game of rugby, cultural immersion and community engagement. This allowed students to develop their rugby in a challenging yet inspiring environment.
Throughout the tour, players were exposed to a fast, physical and skilful style of rugby, competing against local opposition and learning first-hand the importance of flair, resilience and creativity. Off the field, students engaged with Fijian culture, schools and communities, reinforcing the values of respect, humility and gratitude. Junior School
Year 6 Canberra Trip Year 6 students returned from a fantastic educational tour to Canberra, where their learning about government, history, science and sport came to life. A major highlight was visiting Parliament House, where students met Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, his wife Jodie Haydon, visiting Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, and Bradfield MP Nicolette Boele. They also visited Government House and met the Governor-General, Sam Mostyn.
At the Australian War Memorial, students reflected on service and sacrifice, while the Australian Institute of Sport offered insight into elite athlete training. Other highlights included orienteering at the National Arboretum, hands-on learning at Questacon, and visits to the Royal Australian Mint, Geoscience Australia, and the Museum of Australian Democracy. The tour was full of learning, fun and memorable experiences. Sincere thanks to the teachers who made this opportunity possible.
Year 5 Camp Year 5 enjoyed their annual school camp at Point Wolstoncroft. Over 3 days, students engaged in a variety of activities, including canoeing, archery and stand up paddle boarding. Students challenged themselves to step outside their comfort zones, showing resilience, teamwork and encouragement toward one another. Many memorable moments were shared, from cheering each other on during activities to enjoying time together in the beautiful natural surroundings. The camp provided a wonderful opportunity for students to build independence, develop new skills and friendships and create lasting memories with their peers and teachers.
Year 6 2025 Graduation Congratulations to our Year 6 graduates. On Friday 21 November 2025, we celebrated a wonderful milestone as our Year 6 students marked their graduation. Students and their families made the special journey from ‘Oxford Falls to Waterford, Ireland, crossing the bridge’ - a meaningful rite of passage from Junior to Senior School before ringing the Waterford bell to signal their readiness for the exciting journey ahead. 26 PIUS InProfile | Autumn 2026
Junior School Bible Liturgy On Tuesday 24 March, our Junior School gathered for a special occasion for our Year 5 students and those new to Year 6, who were formally gifted a Bible by the College. This marks an important milestone in their spiritual journey and reinforces the central place of faith in their learning and lives. Using a Bible is a great way to increase literacy as well as build on developing a healthy understanding of the Gospel values which we instil at school.
St Gabriel’s Visit St Pius X was delighted to host an afternoon of fun, friendship and sport with our friends from St Gabriel’s School, Castle Hill. This special partnership provides valuable opportunities for students from both schools to connect, share experiences and learn alongside one another. St Gabriel’s students visit St Pius X twice each year, and our student leaders look forward to visiting St Gabriel’s in Terms 2 and 4. The activities were filled with laughter, teamwork and genuine moments of connection, highlighting the joy that comes from inclusive community experiences.
Junior Football Tour During the school holidays, the SPX Junior Football squad travelled to St Joseph’s College, Nudgee in Queensland for their first appearance at this outstanding tournament. The students competed strongly against quality opposition, finishing with one win, one draw and two losses in a closely contested competition.
Armidale Rugby Tour The SPX Junior Rugby team enjoyed an outstanding tour at the TAS Rugby Carnival (TASRC) in Armidale, the largest junior rugby tournament for schools and clubs. In a milestone achievement, SPX competed in Division 1 for the first time, finishing equal first and runners-up overall as the highestplaced school in the competition. SPX won five of six matches, defeating Marist Ashgrove, St Ignatius’ Riverview, Waverley College, Padua College and Port Macquarie Marlins, with their only loss coming by a single try to representative side Hunter Harlequins.
Beyond the results, the tour provided a valuable opportunity for the team to strengthen friendships, grow as a group and gain experience both on and off the field. The students proudly wore the Reconciliation Jersey throughout the tour and represented the College with great pride. A memorable highlight was tunnelling out the SPX First XV, who were competing in the Opens division, before joining together to sing the College war cry following the final match, an excellent reflection of the strong connection across the football program. The tour was led by Mr Matt Buda (Prep Coach), whose leadership ensured a positive and memorable inaugural experience for all involved.
Beyond the results, the tour helped strengthen the team’s confidence, connection and cohesion ahead of the IPSHA season. A highlight was the pride with which the boys wore the College’s Reconciliation Jersey, representing SPX with maturity and respect. The tour was led by Mr Mike Cross (Head of Rugby Development and 1st XV Coach) and Mr Callum Montgomerie (Prep Coach and Junior Rugby Convenor), whose guidance ensured a rewarding experience for all involved. 2026 P&F Cocktail Party The 2026 SPX P&F Cocktail Party was a great success, with over 350 parents attending and enjoying live music, excellent food and drinks in a relaxed, social atmosphere. It was wonderful to see our SPX community connecting and socialising. Thank you to the staff and volunteers whose time and effort behind the scenes made the evening run so smoothly. We look forward to welcoming everyone again next year.
Celebrating Dedicated Service At the end of 2025, St Pius X College farewelled three highly valued members of our community whose dedication and service have left a lasting impact on generations of students. After more than five decades of connection with the College, first as a student and then as a beloved staff member, Mr Mark Pawlak retired, leaving behind an extraordinary legacy of commitment, mentorship and service. His influence on the lives of countless students will long be remembered. We also farewelled Ms Donna Janes, who was a valued staff member of the College since 1995. Through her roles as Careers Advisor, Senior Studies Coordinator, Pastoral Leader and Art teacher, she inspired students with her care, creativity and unwavering support. We thank Ms Janes for her outstanding contribution and wish her every success in her new role. We also bid farewell to Mr Phil Stollery, who served the College since 2002. As a respected teacher, pastoral leader and passionate advocate for Outdoor Education, Mr Stollery positively influenced countless students through his guidance, leadership and commitment to holistic education. The P&F continue to support a range of regular College activities, alongside several one-off contributions. Key annual events included the Welcome Mass, BBQ and Information Evening, and Open Day. In 2026, funding has been significantly increased to further strengthen clubs and the broader SPX community. Contributions for each Year Group have doubled from $1,000 to $2,000, while total P&F funding for SPX clubs has reached $95,000. This is complemented by additional allocations supporting the Junior School and a variety of non-club initiatives.
Open Day On Saturday 14 March 2026, St Pius X College proudly welcomed more than 1,500 visitors to our annual Open Day. The event provided a wonderful opportunity to showcase the vibrant life of the College and celebrate the outstanding contributions of our students, staff, parents and wider community. Our students were exceptional ambassadors throughout the day, enthusiastically leading tours and warmly engaging with prospective families and guests. Their confidence, pride and willingness to assist reflected the strong values and welcoming culture that define a St Pius X education.
Visitors were treated to a range of impressive performances from our talented music ensembles, highlighting the rich cocurricular opportunities available at the College. The P&F Association added to the warm and festive atmosphere with a popular sausage sizzle, coffee cart, slushie station and cake stall, all of which were enjoyed by families throughout the day. Across the campus, staff and students shared their experiences and insights, offering visitors a firsthand glimpse into the inclusive, supportive and faith-filled community that makes St Pius X College such a special place to learn and grow.
Chatswood Lunar New Year Celebrations On Saturday 21 February 2026, the St Pius X College Drumline brought incredible energy and school spirit to the Chatswood Lunar New Year celebrations, proudly representing the College in front of a large and enthusiastic crowd. From the first beat to the final drumroll, the Drumline delivered a powerful and polished performance that captivated audiences and created a vibrant atmosphere throughout the event. Showcasing outstanding musicianship, teamwork
and enthusiasm, the students demonstrated the talent and dedication for which St Pius X College is renowned. Their performance was met with enthusiastic applause and was a highlight of the celebrations, reflecting both the rich cultural significance of the occasion and the strong connection between the College and the wider community. The SPX Old Boys Association proudly contributed approximately $37,000 in support of a wide range of school initiatives, reflecting its strong and ongoing commitment to the development, wellbeing, and enrichment of current students. These contributions have directly supported both academic and cocurricular opportunities, ensuring students are able to benefit from experiences that enhance their education, build camaraderie, and foster school spirit.

Old Boys v Senior Students Gala Day St Pius X College hosted its annual Old Boys vs Senior Students Gala Day at Oxford Falls, bringing together past and present students for a spirited day of sport and connection. The Old Boys claimed strong wins in Basketball (100–77) and Football (6–2), showcasing their experience and skill, while the College’s 1st XV edged out a thrilling 5–4 victory in touch football after extra time. More than just competition, the day celebrated the enduring bonds within the St Pius X community, with students and alumni coming together for a BBQ and reconnecting after the matches. A great day was enjoyed by all.

SPX Old Boy - Takes on the World Solar Challenge SPX Old Boy - International Success A huge congratulations to Ryan Jom (Class of 2023), former St Pius X Football Captain, ISA and NSW CIS representative who has now become an international footballer for Timor‑Leste. Ryan recently featured in two Asian Cup Qualifier matches against the Philippines, experiencing everything from intense national team camps to playing in front of 10,000 fans. From hearing his national anthem on debut to competing against world‑class opposition, he embraced every moment with courage and pride.
SPX Old Boy - World Champion Huge congratulations to Tiger Hart (Class of 2024) who proudly represented Australia at the International Karate Organization Kyokushinkaikan Union (IKOKU) World Cup in the 65–75kg division. Across two intense days of competition, Tiger fought with incredible determination against athletes from Belgium, Kazakhstan and Japan, showcasing true grit and SPX spirit. In a hard-fought final bout, he triumphed over his opponent to claim the title of WORLD CHAMPION. An outstanding achievement, well done, Tiger!
Congratulations to Luke Sissons (Class of 2023), who recently competed in the 2025 Bridgestone World Solar Challenge as part of the ANU Solar Racing Team, sponsored by NRMA. Now a physics student at the Australian National University, Luke serves as both a Structures Team member and one of the team’s drivers, an incredible achievement on the world stage of solar innovation. Luke shared a special thank you to SPX staff member Mr Paul de Silva, saying: ‘Thank you for taking me through senior physics and leading me towards a path like this. I never thought I would pursue science, but here we are!’
SPX Old Boy Update Oliver Lenehan (Class of 2020) started in Robotics Club in 2016 in Year 8 and has been a very valuable member of the Club. As a student his notable projects were our first Quadcopter Drone and 2 RoboCup soccer robots which he and his team competed with at UNSW.
