St Peter’s Senior School is delighted to offer arrange of major residential trip opportunities for 2026-2028.These are complemented by other more specific residential visits as well as a wide range of day trips. Some of these trips have already been advertised, others are still to launch. Hopefully, the brochure helps to give a range of what is on offer next academic year in one location, as well as (at the back of this document) an indication of what is to come in 2027-28.

Costs Of Residential Trips
We are conscious of the fact that residential trips are still seeing quite significant increases in price in the last five years. We always look for best value in deciding on trips and always seek quotes from a range of companies before making our provider decisions.
Reliability in a crisis and the quality of the trip matter – so price is not the only factor in determining our choice of provider In all cases we check who we are booking with to make sure things go as we all expect.
Some trip prices will be known, others will be estimates at this stage. Final prices can often depend on flight prices at the time of payment and the numbers of pupils who signup. Our payment schedules reflect those of the provider, and it is important these are kept to
Financial support
As most of our trips that require payment are voluntary activities, we do not offer financial assistance for our trips Pupils who are on full bursaries have particular arrangements and parents should contact the school if they would like to join one of our residential opportunities.
How Places on Trips Are Allocated
For most trips, places are allocated on a first-come-firstserved basis. Just occasionally there are particulararrangements/eligibility requirements that will be explainedat the time of a trip launch.
Passports and visas
Ensuring that pupils have the correct requirements to entera country are ultimately a parental responsibility We do however advise (in all good faith) what needs to be done, but it is then down to the parents to make the necessary arrangements and to determine what is required. In cases where a pupil cannot travel as they do not have the correct documentation no refund would be possible.

Art Trip to Boggle Hole
As a ‘starter’ for the A Level Art course, there is a short residential trip to YHA Boggle Hole near Robin Hood’s Bay. This is a perfect opportunity to acquire lots of first-hand observational work with which to kick-start the pupils’ landscape project.
The trip includes a morning at Robin Hood’s Bay, sketching the landscape, boats and the life within this picturesque coastal village. Time is also spent at the YHA hostel where we will make use of the classroom/studio, as well as further time spent exploring the local vicinity and continuing to draw and paint individually and in groups. The following day is spent exploring the scenery around Boggle Hole and the Cleveland Way, making drawings/prints/paintings and collecting objects to take back to the Art School.

Expedition to Morocco
The trip would be for pupils in Years 11 to 13 at the time of travel. The trip would take place in the first week of October half term, returning Sunday/Monday mid-way through the break. The intention is to run this trip bi-annually.
This expedition will include some of the following which the participating teams will have some influence in deciding:

High Atlas Mountain Trek or Dades Gorge Trek
A service Learning Community project
This is a wonderful opportunity to combine physical challenge, cultural learning and social action all in one trip.

Classics Trip to Italy
The Classics trip to Italy focuses on Rome and Naples.
In Naples, we head towards the Bay of Naples, where, based in Sorrento, pupil will visit the sites of Pompeii and Herculaneum in addition to travelling across to the Roman resort of Baia to discover some sub-aquatic ruins.
In Rome we head to Ostia Antica before continuing onto the main city, where we visit the Colosseum, Palatine Hill and the Roman Forum and many other sites of interest throughout the course of two days.
Rugby Trip to Portugal
The Rugby Tour to Portugal is aimed at players who will be in years 9 and 10 at the point of travel.
This tour is a fantastic opportunity for our pupils to immerse themselves in a sporting environment, to develop a variety of skills both in terms of rugby ability and interpersonal skills as well as continuing to foster lifelong friendships. It is also an excellent opportunity to experience the nature of a Sports tour, prior to the major tour available at the end of Year 11/L6.
Along with the rugby, pupils will experience surf lessons, a sightseeing tour of Lisbon and a Benfica stadium tour.

Rowing Residentials
The main rowing residential takes place at our annual Ely Camp during the final week of the Easter break. An additional camp in Newcastle also takes place during October half term
Full details of this will follow in due course. But we have a number of residential visits through the year in order to participate in more distant regattas and national events. This will include the various rowing events that require overnight stays.
A full outline of these will be sent to all rowing parents at the start of the season in September.

Ski Trip to Folgarida
Folgarida is a well known destination for us, forming part of the wider Madonna di Campiglio ski area. There are over 150km in the whole area, with plenty of skiing on the FolgaridaMarilleva slopes.
The trip is open to pupils in Years 7 and 8 at the time of travel, in conjunction with pupils with pupils from the Junior School. All levels of experience are welcome, including those who have not skied before. Pupils will always be supervised by local ski instructors and will ski 4 hours each day. As well as the skiing, we combine evening down time with other activities to keep the pupils entertained.

100km of piste skiing on 102 trails, with over 1200 snowguns to ensure lots is always open.
The senior trip runs on a priority basis, with first access open to more senior pupils from Year 10. Pupils will always be supervised by local ski instructors, or other qualified staff, and will ski 5 hours each day. As well as the skiing, we combine evening down time with other activities to keep the pupils entertained.

Art History Trip to Florence
This long-established trip is primarily aimed at pupils who study Art History at A level, though, depending on take-up, other pupils with an interest in the itinerary may be welcome to join the trip.
The trip will be based in Florence and pupils will be able to visit the Uffizi, Bargello, Academia Galleries, the Medici Chapel. Along with this they will be able to explore Florence and appreciate both its art and architecture.
Exact dates TBC and full details will be included once this trip is launched.
Rugby Sevens
The National School Sevens is the leading competition in the UK for Rugby Sevens and due to its size takes place over a full week.
For each year group, the trip involves travelling down on an afternoon, one day of competition, a further night stay and then (depending on progress) more matches on the second day.
The trip is open to Year 9, 11 and Sixth Form as per age groups in the competition. This is by team selection, confirmed after previous Sevens’ Tournaments.
For Years 7 and 8 the overnight stay is to take part in the Millfield Schools Sevens Tournament.

Netball Tour to Gibraltar
The Netball Tour to Gibraltar is aimed at players who will be in years 9 and 10 at the point of travel.
This tour is a fantastic opportunity for our pupils to immerse themselves in a sporting environment, to develop a variety of skills both in terms of netball ability and interpersonal skills as well as continuing to foster lifelong friendships. It is also an excellent opportunity to experience the nature of a Sports tour, prior to the major tour available at the end of Year 11/L6.
Along with the netball, pupils will experience a cable car trip to the top of the rock, a Dolphin sighting tour and downtime at Sandy bay beach as well as the town itself.

This trip runs for all pupils who take A level Spanish and is a chance to spend a week in one of the most fascinating and historic cities of Spain.
Pupils spend each morning in language classes, with afternoons given over to cultural trips and experiences.
Pupils stay with Spanish hosts (rather than in hotels) and get the opportunity to speak Spanish at all points during the trip.
Depending on the precise time of the visit, it may also be possible to see the impressive Easter parades in the streets.
Easter CCF Camp
This trip (open to all CCF cadets) will be similar in nature to our normal summer camps, with military training packages supplemented with visits to regular army and RAF units based in Cyprus (including the United States Airforce), cultural visits to local sites of antiquity and adventurous training activities.
The exercise is being organised by the Commandant-Colonel of cadets in the North, with a number of CCF and ACF units from the area taking part.

Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Expedition
The Bronze expedition take place over two days and one night.
Due to the number of pupils taking this award, we split the cohort into two over a four day period in mid-May.
The residential is a key part of the overall Bronze Award and something all the pupils really look forward to.

Duke of Edinburgh Silver Expedition
The Silver expedition takes place over three days and two nights.
As to be expected, this is a step up from the bronze expedition and happens twice –a practice expedition and a qualifying expedition. Both take place in the summer term of Year 10.

Duke of Edinburgh Gold Expedition
The Gold expedition takes place over four days and three nights (and one night less on the practice expedition)
As with Silver, this happens twice (practice and qualifying), with both expeditions taking place in the same academic year, in the summer term. This happens in the Lower Sixth year.

Year 7 Residential to London
This trip is for Year 7 pupils and a chance for them to experience their first year group residential in the Senior school.
The trip will involve a 2 night stay, a theatre performance, visits to various museums, along with organised sightseeing of our capital city.
The cost includes all travel, accommodation and activities.

Year 8 Residential to Normandy
This trip is for Year 8 pupils and a chance for them to experience their first overseas year group residential in the Senior school.
The trip will involve a 4 night stay, a History day exploring the D-Day landings, language and cultural experiences, a visit to Mt St. Michel and a chance to take parts in lots of dfferent activites in groups and teams.
The cost includes all travel, accommodation and activities.

Geography Residential
The L6 Geography residential trip to the Cranedale Centre in the Yorkshire Wolds will take place straight after internal exams, for all who study Geography.
It fulfils the fieldwork requirements of the AQA A-level Geography course and will provide both teaching to support the course and training in skills required for completion of the NEA(independent investigation).
Over the three days, we will complete studies on the sand dunes at Bridlington South, changing places in Scarborough and urban microclimate in Beverley.

The week involves an exciting range of activities, such as zip-lining, led by the 4XBrigade Cadet Training Team.
In addition to military training, there will also be a day out to the North Yorkshire Water Park in Scarborough as part of the programme to include paddleboarding, raft building and climbing.

Sports Tour to South Africa and Namibia
Our biannual Senior sports tour returns to South Africa and Namibia in the Summer of 2027, following a successful visit in the Summer of 2025. During this two-week trip there will be Boys Hockey and Rugby fixtures and Girls Hockey and Netball fixtures.
The purpose of the tour is to provide pupils with a unique experience where they can enhance their sporting abilities for the upcoming school season, continue to develop key life skills and embrace the rich cultural diversity of South Africa and Namibia. We will spend time with the Winnie Mabaso Foundation for the chance to experience local traditions and engage in community service.
Pupils will also have time to explore iconic landmarks and learn about key moments in history.

Full details, along with the launch, for these trips will be confirmed in due course. Residential Sports events/camps, D of E dates and other regular annual trips will take place at similar times to current years –the exact dates for these will also be confirmed once known.
We will also update this with further major residential trips once these have been scheduled.
Terms and Conditions
Educational trips and visits
St Peter's School, York (the School) provides a variety of educational trips and visits for pupils during their time here. These visits include off-site activities, non-routine off-site activities and sporting fixtures which extend beyond the normal start and finish of the school day, adventure activities which may take place at any time and all visits (including overnight or residential trips) which take place during the weekend or school holidays.
The School obtains general written consent from parents for all educational visits which take place during the normal School day when the pupil enters the School. This covers the whole time the pupil is at the School.
The School provides information to parents about each visit (either via a specific communication and/or termly calendar) to enable them to opt out of specific visits should they wish to do so If consent is refused or withdrawn by one or both of a pupil's parents, the School may refuse to allow that pupil to take part in an educational visit.
Payment for residential trips
Parents will be informed of any additional costs payable in respect of a residential trip in advance. Such costs will be payable in advance (unless added to the school bill) and may be subject to a separate agreement between the parents and the School
The total cost we ask parents to pay for all residential trips is based on the actual price we are required to pay any third party organisation(s) to arrange the trip, including any external providers we engage with, together with any additional extras Such extras might include hoodies/kit, transport to/from the venue or airport, additional activities not included by the provider and contingencies for foreseeable costs.
Our trips do not run for profit and are priced to cover all foreseeable costs
Payment terms will differ from trip and trip and we will advise parents in advance of these Our payment schedules/instalments will usually reflect those of the organisation we are engaging with, including the external provider, and it is therefore important these are kept to. Parents should be aware that the School will not pay any organisation or external provider on behalf of a particular pupil in the event that payment deadlines are not met and this could lead to additional charges being levied
In no circumstances will the School consider allowing a pupil to participate in a residential trip where the full balance has not been paid as requested The right is also reserved under our standard terms and conditions for the School to prevent a pupil from taking part in an educational visit where any overdue school fees remain unpaid. Should parents have any difficulty in meeting payment deadlines they should contact the Finance Office to discuss as soon as possible
In some circumstances, when asking for deposits, we may provide an estimate of the likely costs for a residential trip where the final cost is dependent on certain factors, such as the number of attendees, which cannot be guaranteed at the time of payment of the deposit. Where this is the case, we will seek to confirm the final price as soon as practicable. Where any increase in the cost of a residential trip is greater than 8% above the original estimate, parents will be notified and shall be entitled to withdraw their child from the residential trip, without penalty, in accordance with the provisions set out in that notification
Any additional costs (such as medical costs, taxis, air fares, or professional advice) incurred to protect a pupil's safety and welfare during a residential trip will be charged for.
Financial support
As most of our residential trips that require payment are voluntary activities, we do not offer financial assistance for such trips. Pupils who are on full bursaries have particular arrangements in place and parents should get in touch with the School as soon as possible if they would like their child to join one of our residential trips
Cancellation of place/withdrawal from a trip
If a pupil is no longer able to go on a residential trip it is the parents’ responsibility to inform the School in writing and seek confirmation from us that we have received the notice of cancellation or withdrawal.
Each residential trip is subject to its own terms and conditions, including any terms and conditions imposed by an external provider We will endeavour to fill any places created by a cancellation or withdrawal and seek to refund parents where possible Parents will however remain liable for whatever outstanding monies the School cannot recoup under any agreement entered into with an external provider, for example flight name change fees.
Pupils with special educational needs or medical conditions
All reasonable adjustments will be made to accommodate pupils with special educational needs or medical conditions, and such factors will be taken into account when conducting a risk assessment in relation to a specific residential trip
The School will consult with parents where it has concerns as to whether a pupil's specific needs can be provided for adequately during a residential trip The School may seek to prevent a child from taking part where it considers that these needs cannot be met and/or where it is otherwise considered inappropriate for them to do so.
Change of plans
Occasionally we, or an external travel provider, may have to change plans in response to events occurring at the time, including any public health incidents and/or other outbreaks or pandemics, or in response to FCO guidance. In such circumstances, we will make any possible amendments to the itinerary we consider necessary for the safety of pupils and staff. In some circumstances, we may have to curtail or cancel a trip, for example due to extreme weather making travel impossible. In the event of such cancellation, the School will take all reasonable steps to secure a refund for parents however this will be subject to the specific terms and conditions of the trip, including any terms and conditions of any external provider. We will endeavour to notify parents of the financial consequences of such a cancellation as soon as possible. Where the return of a trip is delayed, due to flight delays, transport issues or other events, the school will not be liable for any onward financial costs or assistance.
How Places on Trips Are Allocated
For most trips, places are allocated on a first come first served basis. On occasion, there may be particular arrangements/eligibility requirements that will be explained at the time of a trip launch.
Normally, our acceptance of payment for particular residential trip will mean that a place is secured for the relevant pupil. Waiting lists are then created which may be used to try and fill places if pupils are no longer able to attend.
Behaviour
The School may prevent a pupil from taking part in a residential trip in the following circumstances:
• If a pupil’s behaviour is such that their continued participation on the trip is deemed inappropriate for safeguarding reasons.
• If a pupil leaves the School after their parents have signed them up to a trip and made payments
• If any outstanding school fees remain unpaid as set out above.
In all such cases we would endeavour to fill the place and refund any monies paid by the parents where this is possible and in accordance with the specific terms and conditions of the trip. A high standard of behaviour is expected of pupils on all school visits and trips. The School's policies on behaviour and discipline, current at the time and published on the School website, apply to all pupils at the School and at all times when the pupil is in or at school, on School-organised trips or associated with the School at any time. Pupils must also observe both UK law and the law of the country they are visiting.
During a residential trip, pupils will:
• follow the instructions of the Group Leader and their Supervisor(s)
• comply with the School rules and any other behavioural requests they have been made aware of
• not behave in a way which put themselves or others at risk or in breach of the School rules
If there is a serious breach of discipline during a residential trip, a pupil may be required to leave the trip early. In such circumstances, the pupil will be accompanied by a member of staff as required and any costs incurred to respond to breaches of discipline would need to be met by the parents. In such cases the Head Master (or Senior Deputy) would be consulted and the pupil's parents will be made aware of the arrangements.
Passports, visas and other entry requirements
Parents are responsible for ensuring that their children have the necessary documentation and fulfil any relevant requirements, including in relation to any necessary vaccinations, to enable them to safely take part in a particular residential trip. We do however advise parents (in all good faith)what needs to be done, but it is then down to the parents/guardians to make the necessary arrangements and to determine what is required. In cases where a pupil cannot travel as they do not have the correct documentation no refund would be made.
Data and GDPR
Before we pass on any pupil data to third parties we engage in a Data Protection Risk Assessment to assess that the provider is GDPR compliant. Such data may include (but may not be limited to) pupil names, passport numbers, nationality, dates of birth and relevant medical/dietary information. This is data that will be requested by the provider.
Insurance
Adequate and suitable insurance cover will be in place for every residential trip, the details of which will be supplied to you prior to departure. Parents are welcome to supplement this with their own insurance as they feel is required. For trips where GHIC cards are valid, pupils should bring these cards with them. Where medical care is provided in these countries GHIC details will be required and parents should not expect that the School's insurance (or any other policy) will cover for things the GHIC card would ordinarily cover.
Dietary requirements and Allergies
Parents must:
• provide the School with clear and accurate up to date information on their child's health and / or any special needs and / or allergies;
• provide appropriate consents, including to the administration of first aid, medication and medical treatment, and where necessary, provide the School with their child's medication in advance of the trip; and
• ensure that they provide up to date contact details or other appropriate contact details in the event that they will be unavailable.
We check, at the point of arrival, that any food provider has all necessary information and will make pupils aware of any things to avoid when we are made aware of them.
Other information
Where the School contracts with an external provider for the running of a residential trip, the School will adhere to that provider's terms and conditions in addition to the above. Details will be available to parents when the trip is launched.
