I feel incredibly fortunate to attend so many of the School’s events throughout the year. Our diverse programme reflects the breadth of interests and talents within the School community, offering something for everyone while celebrating the richness and diversity that make St Paul’s so special. The St Paul’s Senior School Parents’ Group will host a drinks reception and buffet supper to welcome new parents to the Senior School community. This is a wonderful chance to hear from the High Master and the Head of Middle School, as well as meet and befriend other parents in your year. You may be brand new to the school, moving up from the Prep School, or returning with a sibling, but we encourage all Fourth Form and new Lower Eighth Form parents to come along.

Christian Union Alumni ‘House Party’ Friday 18 September 6.00pm Wychcroft Retreat Centre, Redhill RH1 4NE The Pauline Meetings are hosting another ‘Alumni House Party’ weekend to which all former members of the CU, and any OPs who have ever been on a CU House Party, are warmly invited. The idea is to provide a context for fellowship and spiritual nourishment based on the informal House Party model – and with key House Party activities – that meant so much to many of us when we were younger, but aimed at adults rather than teenagers. We are delighted to announce that the weekend will be led by OP and former member of the Meetings Revd Tom Honey. The weekend will be held – as before – at Wychcroft Retreat Centre, near Godstone in Surrey.

Parents’ Christian Prayer Group Wednesday 23 September 8.45am SPS Chapel The Parents’ Christian Prayer Group (held jointly between both the Prep and Senior schools) meets twice a term to pray for the boys and staff. These informal meetings include coffee, reading/thought for the day and prayers. All are warmly invited to attend. SPARTA: Anish Kapoor – Private Tour Thursday 24 September 10.00am Hayward Gallery, London SE1 8XX SPARTA (St Paul’s Art Association) run a series of events throughout the year to which all parents are invited. Anish Kapoor staged his first UK survey in the Hayward Gallery 30 years ago, and now returns with this exhibition. Part of the Southbank’s 75 year anniversary celebration, the exhibition features a mixture of Kapoor’s most iconic works, and dramatic recent works confronting the fragility of our existence. Parents will enjoy a private tour in a small group. Audience

We will ride in groups, enjoy the opportunity to try new routes and ride with fellow cyclists. This time we’ll be heading West towards Walton and Windsor, covering distances to suit all abilities from beginners to pros! SPARTA: Salman Toor – Someone Like You Thursday 8 October 9.00am The Courtauld Gallery, London WC2R 0RN This is the first solo exhibition of New York-based painter Salman Toor, bringing together 20 years of his most iconic paintings, which he describes as depicting ‘queer and immigrant lives that straddle different cultures’ and ‘what it means to find a community’. Parents from the St Paul’s community will enjoy a private tour in a small group.

Old Pauline Club Annual Dinner Thursday 8 October 6.30pm Atrium and Dining Hall The Old Pauline Club invites all Old Paulines to join them for their Annual Dinner which will be held on site at St Paul’s School. This event is a wonderful opportunity to get together with old friends, and hear an update from the school. This year’s guest speaker is Old Pauline Lincoln Jopp MC (1981–86), a retired Colonel in the British Army, former company and charity Director, former SPS Christian Union Officer and current Conservative MP for Spelthorne. During his service Lincoln was deployed to various conflict zones, including Northern Ireland, Iraq and Afghanistan. In 1997, he was awarded the Military Cross (MC) in recognition of gallant and distinguished services in Sierra Leone. He commanded the Scots Guards in Afghanistan in the summer of 2010, and was awarded the Queen’s Commendation for Valuable Service in recognition of gallant services in Afghanistan.

From the Archives: E H Shepard Monday 12 October 6.30pm Virtual Event – Zoom Webinar This week, St Paul’s Celebrates 100 Years of Winnie-the-Pooh and this From the Archives talk will highlight illustrator and Old Pauline Ernest Shepard (1894–1896). We will go through his school reports and talk about the art prizes he won at St Paul’s. We will also pull out some drawings he did specially for Colet Court and touch on some of his more political work for the satirical magazine, Punch.

Community Eucharist Wednesday 14 October 7.55am SPS Chapel On the last Wednesday of each half-term, we have a Community Eucharist, to which all parents and OPs are invited, as well as current pupils. It is a beautiful choir-led Service, with anthem, hymns and homily, and is followed by a complimentary breakfast.
Methane is over 80 times more potent than carbon dioxide over its first 20 years in the atmosphere, yet millions of tonnes are released every year from engines powered by natural gas. This talk explores why methane emissions have become one of the fastest-growing climate challenges, how new regulations are transforming industries such as shipping and power generation, and how advances in catalyst technology could provide one of the quickest and most cost-effective ways to reduce global greenhouse gas emissions. Drawing on both academic research and the journey of building a climate technology start-up, the talk will also explore how scientific discoveries can be translated into technologies with real-world impact. Sixth Form Production: Incident at Vichy

7.00pm Milton Studio This Autumn, the Milton Studio plays host to one of Arthur Miller’s lesser-known works, Incident at Vichy. In 1942, a group of men find themselves waiting to be interviewed by the police, the purpose of the investigation unclear to them. Optimism battles pessimism as the question no one wants to ask looms: are they there because they’re Jewish? Performed by a cast of Sixth Form actors, this tense one-act play explores the relationship between hope and fear in a culture of intolerance.

Diwali Celebration Thursday 5 November 6.30pm John Colet Hall St Paul’s School warmly invites you to attend its community Diwali celebration this November. This event is open to parents and pupils from both the Prep and Senior Schools and is intended to provide an inclusive and educational opportunity to learn more about Diwali, its significance across Hindu, Sikh and Jain cultures, and how it is celebrated. After studying at the College of Law, David spent three years with Macfarlanes solicitors. Commissioned into Army Legal Services in September 1996 he has served on operations in Georgia, the Balkans, Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya. Today he is a President of Army Service Inquiries (into non-accidental deaths). Audience

SPARTA: Frida – The Making of an Icon Thursday 12 November 9.00am Tate Modern, London SE1 9GT SPARTA invites you to join them for a guided visit to the exhibition Frida: The Making of an Icon. The exhibition showcases over 30 of Kahlo’s most iconic works that introduce her ‘many selves’ – the dedicated wife, the intellectual, the modern artist, and the political activist. Alongside treasured garments, jewellery, photographs and memorabilia, there are over 200 works by her contemporaries and the artists she inspired from later generations, celebrating her lasting impact on those who continue to reimagine and reclaim her remarkable story. Parents are invited to this lecture and exhibition visit, followed by a specialist handling session at either Sotheby’s, Christie’s or Bonhams (subject to availability). Audience

The termly date for ABRSM Music Exams held in the Music School. Pupils learning their instrument in school will be entered by their Visiting Music Teachers, but those who learn externally are welcome to get in touch with the Music Office and can be entered if there is space.
Get ready for a fun-filled lunchtime of live rock music as our school Rock ‘n’ Roll Bands, who have been working closely with our Visiting Music Teachers, take to the stage to showcase the songs they’ve been rehearsing this term. The concert will also feature performances from our talented electric guitarists, with opportunities for solo and duo performances. Whether you’re a performer, a rock music fan, or simply looking to enjoy some great live music during lunch, everyone is welcome.

A rip-roaring musical comedy, Half a Sixpence follows the life and loves of Arthur Kipps, an over-worked draper’s assistant living in Folkstone in the early 1900s. When Arthur unexpectedly inherits a fortune, he is propelled into high society, catching the eye of Helen Walsingham and her money-grabbing family. Arthur’s childhood sweetheart, Ann, is forced to watch helplessly as Helen attempts to transform Arthur into the perfect upper-class husband. Both women love Arthur in their own ways, but by the time he makes up his mind which one he wants, will it be too late? With barn-storming numbers such as ‘If the Rain’s Got to Fall’, ‘Pick Out a Simple Tune’ and ‘Flash Bang Wallop’, Half a Sixpence remains one of the most beloved British musicals of the twentieth century.
