ORDER OF SERVICE OPENING PRAYER HYMNS FOR THE INTROIT: 361, 730, 740 HYMN: 361 - All people that on earth do dwell 1

All people that on earth do dwell, sing to the Lord with cheerful voice; him serve with fear, his praise forth tell, come ye before him, and rejoice.

2

The Lord, ye know, is God indeed; without our aid he did us make; we are his flock, he doth us feed and for his sheep he doth us take.

3

O enter then his gates with praise, approach with joy his courts unto; praise, laud, and bless his name always, for it is seemly so to do.

4

For why? The Lord our God is good; his mercy is for ever sure; his truth at all times firmly stood, and shall from age to age endure.

5

To Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, the God whom heaven and earth adore, from men and from the angel-host be praise and glory evermore.

HYMN: 730 - God is here! As we his people 1

God is here! As we his people Meet to offer praise and prayer, may we find in fuller measure what it is in Christ we share:

Here, as in the world around us, all our varied skills and arts wait the coming of the Spirit into open minds and hearts 2

Here are symbols to remind us of our lifelong need of grace; here are table, font and pulpit, here the cross has central place. here in honesty of preaching, here in silence, as in speech, here in newness and renewal God the Spirit comes to each.

3

Here our children find a welcome in the Shepherd's flock and fold; here as bread and wine are taken, Christ sustains us as of old. Here the servants of the Servant Seek in worship to explore what it means in daily living to believe and to adore.

4

Lord of all, of church and kingdom, in an age of change and doubt, keep us faithful to the gospel, help us work your purpose out. Here, in this day's dedication, all we have to give, receive; we who cannot live without you, we adore you! We believe!

HYMN: 740 - Pleasant are thy courts above 1

Pleasant are thy courts above, in the land of light and love; pleasant are thy courts below in this land of sin and woe;

Oh, my spirit longs and faints for the converse of thy saints, for the brightness of thy face, for thy fullness, God of grace. 2

Happy birds that sing and fly round thy altars, O most High; happier souls that find a rest in a heavenly Father's breast; like the wandering dove that found no repose on earth around, they can to their ark repair, and enjoy it ever there.

3

Happy souls, their praises flow even in this vale of woe; waters in the desert rise, manna feeds them from the skies; on they go from strength to strength, till they reach thy throne at length, at thy feet adoring fall, who hast led them safe through all.

4

Lord, be mine this prize to win, guide me through a world of sin, keep me by thy saving grace, give me at thy side a place; sun and shield alike thou art, guide and guard my erring heart. grace and glory flow from thee; shower, O shower them, Lord, on me

PRESIDENT: O Lord, open thou our lips. ALL: And our mouth shall shew forth thy praise. PRESIDENT: O God, make speed to save us ALL: O Lord, make haste to help us.

PRESIDENT: Glory be to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost; ALL: As it was in the beginning, it’s now, and ever shall be: world without end. Amen. PRESIDENT: Praise ye the Lord. Answer: The Lord's Name be praised. PSALM 100 1

O be joyful in the Lord, all ye lands* serve the Lord with gladness, and come before his presence with a song.

2

Be ye sure that the Lord he is God* it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.

3

O go your way into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise* be thankful unto him, and speak good of his Name.

4

For the Lord is gracious, his mercy is everlasting* and his truth endureth from generation to generation.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. FIRST LESSON: Nehemiah 10:28-39 READER: A Reading from the Word of God, written in the book of Nehemiah, chapter ten beginning at the twenty-eighth verse. The rest of the people, the priests, the Levites, the gatekeepers, the singers, the temple servants, and all who have separated themselves from the peoples of the lands to adhere to the law of God, their wives, their sons, their daughters, all who have knowledge and understanding, join with their kin, their nobles, and enter into a curse and an oath to walk in God’s law, which was given by Moses the servant of God, and to observe and do all the commandments of the Lord our Lord and his ordinances and his statutes. We will not give our daughters to the peoples of the land or take their daughters for our sons, and if the peoples of the land bring in merchandise or any grain on the Sabbath day to sell, we will not buy it from them on the Sabbath or on a holy day, and we will forego the crops of the seventh year and the exaction of every debt. We also lay on ourselves the obligation to charge ourselves yearly one-third of a shekel for the service of the house of our God: for

the rows of bread, the regular grain offering, the regular burnt offering, the Sabbaths, the new moons, the appointed festivals, the sacred donations, and the sin offerings to make atonement for Israel, and for all the work of the house of our God. We have also cast lots among the priests, the Levites, and the people for the wood offering, to bring it into the house of our God, by ancestral houses, at appointed times, year by year, to burn on the altar of the Lord our God, as it is written in the law. We obligate ourselves to bring the first fruits of our soil and the first fruits of all fruit of every tree, year by year, to the house of the Lord; also to bring to the house of our God, to the priests who minister in the house of our God, the firstborn of our sons and of our livestock, as it is written in the law, and the firstlings of our herds and of our flocks; and to bring the first of our dough, and our contributions, the fruit of every tree, the wine and the oil, to the priests, to the chambers of the house of our God; and to bring to the Levites the tithes from our soil, for it is the Levites who collect the tithes in all our rural towns. And the priest, the descendant of Aaron, shall be with the Levites when the Levites receive the tithes, and the Levites shall bring up a tithe of the tithes to the house of our God, to the chambers of the storehouse. For the people of Isarael and the sons of Levi shall bring the contribution of grain, wine, and oil to the storerooms where the vessels of the sanctuary are, and where the priests that minister and the gatekeepers and the singers are. We will not neglect the house of our God. READER: The word of the Lord. ALL: Thanks be to God. OFFICE HYMN: 331 - Lord, thy Church on earth is seeking 1

Lord, thy Church on earth is seeking thy renewal from above; Teach us all the art of speaking with the accent of thy love. we would heed thy great commission; "Go ye into every place; preach, baptize, fulfil my mission, serve with love and share my grace."

2

Freedom give to those in bondage, lift the burdens caused by sin; give new hope, new strength and courage, grant release from fears within.

Light for darkness, joy for sorrow; love for hatred, peace for strife. These and countless blessings follow as the Spirit gives new life. 3

In the slums of every city where the bruised and lonely dwell, we shall show the Saviour’s pity, we shall of his mercy tell. In all lands and with all races we shall serve, and seek to bring all mankind to render praises, Christ, to thee, Redeemer, King.

MAGNIFICAT My soul doth magnify the Lord: and my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour. For he hath regarded: the lowliness of his hand-maiden. For behold, from henceforth: all generations shall call me blessed. For he that is mighty hath magnified me: and holy is his Name. And his mercy is on them that fear him: throughout all generations. He hath shewed strength with his arm: he hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts. He hath put down the mighty from their seat: and hath exalted the humble and meek. He hath filled the hungry with good things: and the rich he hath sent empty away. He remembering his mercy, hath holpen his servant Israel: as he promised to our forefathers, Abraham and his seed, forever. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son: and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be: world without end. Amen. SECOND LESSON: Mark 2:1-12 READER: A Reading from the Word of God, written in Gospel according to Mark, chapter two beginning at the first verse. When Jesus returned to Capernaum after some days, it was reported that he was at home. So many gathered around that there was no longer room for them, not even in front of the door; and he was speaking the word to them. Then some people

came, bringing to him a paralyzed man, carried by four of them. And when they could not bring him to Jesus because of the crowd, they removed the roof above him; and after having dug through it, they let down the mat on which the paralytic lay. When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven.” Now some of the scribes were sitting there, questioning in their hearts, “Why does this fellow speak in this way? It is blasphemy! Who can forgive sins but God alone?” At once Jesus perceived in his spirit that they were discussing these questions among themselves; and he said to them, “Why do you raise such questions in your hearts? Which is easier, to say to the paralytic, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Stand up and take your mat and walk’? But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins” —he said to the paralytic— “I say to you, stand up, take your mat and go to your home.” And he stood up, and immediately took the mat and went out before all of them; so that they were all amazed and glorified God, saying, “We have never seen anything like this!” READER: The word of the Lord. ALL: Thanks be to God. NUNC DIMITTIS Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace: according to thy word. For mine eyes have seen: thy salvation, Which thou hast prepared: before the face of all people; To be a light to lighten the Gentiles: and to be the glory of thy people Israel. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son: and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be: world without end. Amen. THE APOSTLES’ CREED I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth: And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord, Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, Born of the Virgin Mary, Suffered under Pontius Pilate,

Was crucified, dead, and buried, He descended into hell; The third day he rose again from the dead, He ascended into heaven, And sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; The Holy Catholic Church; The Communion Saints; The Forgiveness of sins; The Resurrection of the body, And the life everlasting. Amen. PRESIDENT: The Lord be with you. ALL: And with thy spirit. PRESIDENT: Let us pray. ALL:

Lord, have mercy upon us. Christ, have mercy upon us. Lord, have mercy upon us.

Our Father; which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come: Thy will be done, in earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive them that trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; But deliver us from evil. Amen. PRESIDENT: O Lord, shew thy mercy upon us. ALL: And grant us thy salvation. PRESIDENT: O Lord, save our nation. ALL: And mercifully hear us when we call upon thee. PRESIDENT: Endue thy Ministers with righteousness. ALL: And make thy chosen people joyful. PRESIDENT: O Lord, save thy people. ALL: And bless thine inheritance.

PRESIDENT: Give peace in our time, O Lord. ALL: Because there is none other that fighteth for us, but only thou, O God. PRESIDENT: O God, make clean our hearts within us. ALL: And take not thy Holy Spirit from us. COLLECTS On the Anniversary of the Dedication of a Church

Amen. The Second Collect at Evening Prayer PRESIDENT: O God, from whom all holy desires, all good counsels, and all just works do proceed; Give unto thy servants that peace which the world cannot give; that both our hearts may be set to obey thy commandments, and also that by thee we being defended from the fear of our enemies may pass our time in rest and quietness; through the merits of Jesus Christ our Saviour. WELCOME AND NOTICES HYMN BEFORE THE SERMON: 310 - Glorious things of thee are spoken 1

Glorious things of thee are spoken, Zion, city of our God; he whose word cannot be broken formed thee for his own abode. On the Rock of Ages founded, what can shake thy sure repose? with salvation's walls surrounded, thou mayest smile at all thy foes.

2

See, the streams of living waters, springing from eternal love, well supply thy sons and daughters, and all fear of want remove. Who can faint while such a river ever flows their thirst to assuage; grace, which like the Lord the Giver, never fails from age to age?

3

Round each habitation hovering, see the cloud and fire appear, for a glory and a covering showing that the Lord is near. Thus they march, the pillar leading, light by night and shade by day; daily on the manna feeding which he gives them when they pray.

4

Saviour, since of Zion's city, I, through grace, a member am, let the world deride or pity, I will glory in thy name. Fading is the world's best pleasure, all its boasted pomp and show; solid joys and lasting treasure none but Zion's children know.

SERMON HYMNS FOR THE OFFERTORY: 347, 346 HYMN: 347 - The church of God a kingdom is 1

The Church of God a kingdom is, where Christ in power doth reign, where spirits yearn till seen in bliss their Lord shall come again.

2

Glad companies of saints possess this Church below, above; and God's perpetual calm doth bless their paradise of love.

3

An altar stands within the shrine whereon, once sacrificed, is set, immaculate, divine, the Lamb of God, the Christ.

4

There rich and poor, from countless lands, praise Christ on mystic Rood; there nations reach forth holy hands to take God's holy food.

5

There pure lifegiving streams o'erflow the sower's garden-ground; and faith and hope fair blossoms show, and fruits of love abound.

6

O King, O Christ, this endless grace to us and all men bring, to see the vision of thy face in joy, O Christ, our King.

HYMN: 346 - Summoned by the God who made us 1

Summoned by the God who made us rich in our diversity, gathered in the name of Jesus, richer still in unity: Refrain: Let us bring the gifts that differ and, in splendid, varied ways, sing a new church into being, one of faith and love and praise

2

Radiant risen from the water; robed in holiness and light, male and female in God's image male and female God's delight: Refrain:

3

Trust the goodness of creation; trust the Spirit strong within. dare to dream the vision promised sprung from seed of what has been. Refrain:

4

Bring the hopes of every nation; bring the art of every race. Weave a song of peace and justice: let it sound through time and space. Refrain:

5

Draw together at one table all the human family; shape a circle ever wider and a people ever free. Refrain

HYMNS FOR THE PROCESSION: 351, 348, 332

HYMN: 351 - Thy hand, O God, has guided 1

Thy hand, O God, has guided thy flock, from age to age; the wondrous tale is written, full clear, on every page; our fathers owned thy goodness, and we their deeds record; and both of this bear witness, one church, one faith, one Lord.

2

Thy heralds brought glad tidings to greatest, as to least; they bade men rise, and hasten to share the great King's feast; and this was all their teaching, in every deed and word, to all alike proclaiming one church, one faith, one Lord.

3

When shadows thick were falling, and all seemed sunk in night, thou, Lord, didst send thy servants, thy chosen sons of light. On them and on thy people thy plenteous grace was poured, and this was still their message, one church, one faith, one Lord.

4

Through many a day of darkness, through many a scene of strife, the faithful few fought bravely, to guard the nation's life. Their Gospel of redemption, sin pardoned, man restored, was all in this enfolded one church, one faith, one Lord.

5

And we, shall we be faithless? Shall hearts fail, hands hang down? Shall we evade the conflict, and cast away our crown? Not so: in God's deep counsels some better thing is stored; we will maintain, unflinching, one church, one faith, one Lord.

6

Thy mercy will not fail us, nor leave thy work undone; with thy right hand to help us, the victory shall be won; and then, by men and angels, thy name shall be adored, and this shall be their anthem, one church, one faith, one Lord

HYMN: 348 - The church's one foundation 1

The church's one foundation is Jesus Christ her Lord; she is his new creation by water and the word. From heaven he came and sought her to be his holy bride; with his own blood he bought her, and for her life he died.

2

Elect from every nation, yet one o'er all the earth; her charter of salvation, one Lord, one faith, one birth; one holy name she blesses, partakes one holy food, and to one hope she presses, with every grace endued.

3

Though with a scornful wonder men see her sore opprest, by schisms rent asunder, by heresies distrest, yet saints their watch are keeping; their cry goes up, ‘How long?’ and soon the night of weeping shall be the morn of song.

4

‘Mid toil and tribulation, and tumult of her war, she waits the consummation of peace for evermore; till, with the vision glorious, her longing eyes are blest, and the great church victorious shall be the church at rest.

5

Yet she on earth hath union with God the Three in One, and mystic sweet communion with those whose rest is won. O happy ones and holy! Lord, give us grace that we like them, the meek and lowly, on high may dwell with thee.

HYMN: 332 - Lord, you give the great commission 1

Lord, you give the great commission: ‘Heal the sick and preach the word.’ Lest the Church neglect its mission, and the Gospel go unheard, help us witness to Your purpose with renewed integrity. with the Spirit's gifts empower us for the work of ministry.

2

Lord, you call us to your service: ‘In my name baptize and teach.’ That the world may trust your promise, life abundant meant for each, give us all new fervour, draw us closer in community. with the Spirit's gifts empower us for the work of ministry.

3

Lord, you make the common holy: ‘This my body, this my blood.’ Let us all, for earth's true glory, daily lift life heavenward, asking that the world around us share your children's liberty. with the Spirit's gifts empower us for the work of ministry.

4

Lord, you show us love's true measure: ‘Father, what they do, forgive.’ Yet we hoard as private treasure all that you so freely give. May your care and mercy lead us to a just society; with the Spirit's gifts empower us for the work of ministry.

5

Lord, you bless with words assuring: ‘I am with you to the end.’ Faith and hope and love restoring, may we serve as you intend and, amid the cares that claim us, hold in mind eternity; with the Spirit's gifts empower us for the work of ministry.

FINAL PRAYER AND BLESSING

Te Deum Laudamus (1662 version) We praise thee, O God: we acknowledge thee to be the Lord. All the earth doth worship thee: the Father everlasting. To thee all Angels cry aloud: the Heavens, and all the Powers therein. To thee Cherubin and Seraphin: continually do cry, Holy, Holy, Holy: Lord God of Sabaoth; Heaven and earth are full of the Majesty: of thy glory. The glorious company of the Apostles: praise thee. The goodly fellowship of the Prophets: praise thee. The noble army of Martyrs: praise thee. The holy Church throughout all the world: doth acknowledge thee; The Father: of an infinite Majesty; Thine honourable, true: and only Son; Also the Holy Ghost: the Comforter. Thou art the King of Glory: O Christ. Thou art the everlasting Son: of the Father. When thou tookest upon thee to deliver man: thou didst not abhor the Virgin's womb. When thou hadst overcome the sharpness of death: thou didst open the Kingdom of Heaven to all believers. Thou sittest at the right hand of God: in the glory of the Father. We believe that thou shalt come: to be our Judge. We therefore pray thee, help thy servants: whom thou hast redeemed with thy precious blood. Make them to be numbered with thy Saints: in glory everlasting. O Lord, save thy people: and bless thine heritage. Govern them: and lift them up for ever. Day by day: we magnify thee; And we worship thy Name: ever world without end. Vouchsafe, O Lord: to keep us this day without sin. O Lord, have mercy upon us: have mercy upon us. O Lord, let thy mercy lighten upon us: as our trust is in thee. O Lord, in thee have I trusted: let me never be confounded.
