OPENING PRAYER HYMN: 302 (RH) - The Gospel bells are ringing The Gospel bells are ringing, Over land, from sea to sea: Blessèd news of free salvation Do they offer you and me. “For God so loved the world That His only Son He gave; Whosoe’er believeth in Him Everlasting life shall have.” Refrain: Gospel bells, how they ring; Over land from sea to sea; Gospel bells…freely bring Blessèd news to you and me. The Gospel bells invite us To a feast prepared for all; Do not slight the invitation, Nor reject the gracious call. “I am the Bread of life;
Eat of Me, thou hungry soul; Though your sins be red as crimson, They shall be as white as wool.” Refrain: The Gospel bells give warning, As they sound from day to day, Of the fate which doth await them Who forever will delay. “Escape thou for thy life; Tarry not in all the plain, Nor behind thee look, oh, never, Lest thou be consumed in pain.” Refrain: The Gospel bells are joyful, As they echo far and wide, Bearing notes of perfect pardon, Through a Saviour crucified. “Good tidings of great joy To all people do I bring, Unto you is born a Saviour, Which is Christ, the Lord and King.” Refrain: FIRST LESSON: Nehemiah 12:27-43 READER: A Reading from the Word of God, written in the book of Nehemiah, chapter twelve beginning at the twenty-seventh verse. READER: Now at the dedication of the wall of Jerusalem they sought out the Levites in all their places, to bring them to Jerusalem to celebrate the dedication with rejoicing, with thanksgivings and with singing, with cymbals, harps, and lyres. The companies of the singers gathered together from the circuit around Jerusalem and from the villages of the Netophathites; also from Beth-gilgal and from the region of Geba and Azmaveth; for the singers had built for themselves villages around Jerusalem. 30And the priests and the Levites purified themselves; and they purified the people and the gates and the wall. Then I brought the leaders of Judah up on
to the wall, and appointed two great companies that gave thanks and went in procession. One went to the right on the wall to the Dung Gate; and after them went Hoshaiah and half the officials of Judah, and Azariah, Ezra, Meshullam, 3udah, Benjamin, Shemaiah, and Jeremiah, and some of the young priests with trumpets: Zechariah son of Jonathan son of Shemaiah son of Mattaniah son of Micaiah son of Zaccur son of Asaph; and his kindred, Shemaiah, Azarel, Milalai, Gilalai, Maai, Nethanel, Judah, and Hanani, with the musical instruments of David the man of God; and the scribe Ezra went in front of them. At the Fountain Gate, in front of them, they went straight up by the stairs of the city of David, at the ascent of the wall, above the house of David, to the Water Gate on the east. The other company of those who gave thanks went to the left, and I followed them with half of the people on the wall, above the Tower of the Ovens, to the Broad Wall, and above the Gate of Ephraim, and by the Old Gate, and by the Fish Gate and the Tower of Hananel and the Tower of the Hundred, to the Sheep Gate; and they came to a halt at the Gate of the Guard. So both companies of those who gave thanks stood in the house of God, and I and half of the officials with me; and the priests Eliakim, Maaseiah, Miniamin, Micaiah, Elioenai, Zechariah, and Hananiah, with trumpets; and Maaseiah, Shemaiah, Eleazar, Uzzi, Jehohanan, Malchijah, Elam, and Ezer. And the singers sang with Jezrahiah as their leader. They offered great sacrifices that day and rejoiced, for God had made them rejoice with great joy; the women and children also rejoiced. The joy of Jerusalem was heard far away. READER: The word of the Lord. ALL: Thanks be to God. HYMN: 948 (SH) - I was sinking deep in sin I was sinking deep in sin, far from the peaceful shore, Very deeply stained within, sinking to rise no more, But the Master of the sea, heard my despairing cry, From the waters lifted me, now safe am I. Refrain: Love lifted me! Love lifted me! When nothing else could help Love lifted me!
All my heart to Him I give, ever to Him I’ll cling In His blessèd presence live, ever His praises sing, Love so mighty and so true, merits my soul’s best songs, Faithful, loving service too, to Him belongs. Refrain: Souls in danger look above, Jesus completely saves, He will lift you by His love, out of the angry waves. He’s the Master of the sea, billows His will obey, He your Savior wants to be, be saved today. Refrain: SECOND LESSON: Matthew 5:13-16 READER: A reading from the word of God written in the gospel according to Matthew, chapter five, beginning at the thirteenth verse. READER: Jesus said, “You are the salt of the earth; but if salt has lost its taste, how can its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything, but is thrown out and trampled under foot. “You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hid. No one after lighting a lamp puts it under the bushel basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven. READER: The word of the Lord. ALL: Thanks be to God. WELCOME WITH CHORUSES NOTICES INTRODUCTION OF PREACHER The Rev’d ReShan White Assistant Curate - The Cathedral Church of St. Michael and All Angels
HYMN BEFORE THE SERMON: 839 (SH) - Down At The Cross Down at the cross where my Saviour died, Down where for cleansing from sin I cried, There to my heart was the blood applied; Glory to His Name! Refrain: Glory to His Name, glory to His Name: There to my heart was the blood applied; Glory to His Name! I am so wondrously saved from sin, Jesus so sweetly abides within; There at the cross where He took me in; Glory to His Name! Refrain: O, precious fountain that saves from sin, I am so glad I have entered in; There Jesus saves me and keeps me clean; Glory to His Name! Refrain: Come to this fountain so rich and sweet, Cast your poor soul at the Saviour’s feet; Plunge in today and be made complete; Glory to His Name! Refrain: THE SERMON

Refrain: Rouse, then, soldiers, rally round the banner, Ready, steady, pass the word along; Onward, forward, shout aloud, “Hosanna!” Christ is Captain of the mighty throng. plead with them earnestly, plead with them gently; He will forgive if they only believe. Refrain: Down in the human heart, crushed by the tempter, feelings lie buried that grace can restore; touched by a loving heart, wakened by kindness, cords that are broken will vibrate once more. Refrain: Rescue the perishing, duty demands it— strength for your labour the Lord will provide; back to the narrow way patiently win them, tell the poor wand'rer a Saviour has died. Refrain: HYMN: 387 (CH) - To God be the glory To God be the glory! Great things he hath done, so loved he the world that he gave us his Son, who yielded his life an atonement for sin, and opened the life gate that all may go in. Refrain: Praise the Lord, Praise the Lord, let the earth hear his voice, praise the Lord, praise the Lord, let the people rejoice! O come to the Father through Jesus the Son, and give him the glory great things he hath done. O perfect redemption, the purchase of blood! To every believer the promise of God; the vilest offender who truly believes, that moment from Jesus a pardon receives. Refrain:
Great things he hath taught us, great things he hath done, and great our rejoicing through Jesus the Son; but purer and higher and greater will be our wonder, our rapture, when Jesus we see.
