The Annual Report is a publication by the school’s Development Office for patrons and friends of the St. Louise community. Every effort has been made to present an accurate accounting. This report covers the 2019–20 budget year, thanks donors for 2020 donations, and covers events from 2020. Please contact julianner@stlouiseschool.org with any questions.

Dear St. Louise School Community, We are publishing this Annual Report to showcase the impact of your support. The stories within affirm what we all know — that St. Louise Parish School is a special place where the future leaders of our Church and communities are formed through an education grounded in Catholic faith. As we share the story of this past year, you’ll find news of our successes, upgrades and changes, as well as the names of our supporters. A big thank you to our teachers and families for working together to keep students safe and learning. Your generous support has grown our Father Phil Wallace Tuition Assistance Endowment Fund to $2.3 million. This allows us to draw $110,000 in interestincome each year to put solely toward tuition assistance grants given to families who would otherwise not be able to afford sending their children to St. Louise. Last year saw more families than usual asking for help with tuition assistance due to their incomes being impacted by the pandemic. It was wonderful to know we could help them with tuition assistance because of a strong endowment. We are especially grateful to those founding members who started this fund nearly 20 years ago. We held a successful Auction in November 2019 — netting almost $320,000 for the school. Thank you to all who participated through donations and bidding! We moved our 2020 Auction date to April 2021, hoping we will be able to gather in-person. We’ll be providing more information on this year’s Auction in the next couple of months. As we begin 2021, the school faculty and we ask for your continued support through your repeated prayers and volunteer help, as well as through your generous donations to the Endowment Fund, the Annual Fund, the School Auction, and St. Louise Parish.

A YEAR IN THE TIME OF COVID 2020 required so much of all of us. We found new, creative ways to educate, while maintaining our high St. Louise standards. We closed in the spring. We made masks. We supported our community’s mental health with the Counselor’s Corner during the spring months. So many well-loved and challenging projects were done virtually, including Fifth Grade History Maker. We held an online Walk-A-Thon. Our teachers missed our students and our families missed our teachers when we couldn’t be together. We thanked our many parents who serve as first responders and medical workers. We managed to still celebrate our Class of 2020 at a drive-up graduation

ceremony. We were able to hold our summer camps in-person. Then in the fall, we were open to PreK, then K through 5, and finally our middle school. We educated our students remotely, and in-person, at the same time. We still dissected cow eyes, went on field trips, hosted our first virtual music programs. We kept Kids’ Club open to support our essential working parents. We welcomed many, many, new families to our community. We went to Mass, and even brought communion to the classrooms. We celebrated Halloween by hosting our first Trunk or Treat. We served our neighbors in need with a supply drive. We hosted a virtual auction. We competed in Speech tournaments and Math
competitions, as well as CYO Cross Country. We held in-person and virtual Open Houses for families looking for a new place to call home for their children. We celebrated St. Nicholas Day and Christmas. We developed new health and safety protocols and effectively trained our amazing faculty, staff, families and students. As of the printing of this annual report, we have had zero transmission of COVID-19 at St. Louise. We could not have done all of this without you, our generous donors and supporters. You are the reason we could open safely this fall and continue the rigorous education that our families enjoy here at St. Louise. Thank you!

Merit Scholarships Each June, two students entering their 8th grade year at St. Louise receive the Noel Lyons Memorial Scholarship. And, one student entering his or her 6th grade year receives the Dave and Darlyne Glaze Memorial Scholarship.
Noel Lyons Memorial Scholarship Noel Lyons was St. Louise student who passed away right before graduation. Noel was known as being a friend to everyone, a genuine caring person, and a good student. One of his classmates, Mitch Brotherton (’82), has provided these scholarships in Noel’s memory for the past 17 years. We are so very appreciative of Mitch’s generosity. The Noel Lyons Scholarship recipients for the 2020–21 school year are Ellie McHugh and Noah Wong.
Dave and Darlyne Glaze Memorial Scholarship Dave and Darlyne Glaze’s son Doug (’73) established this annual scholarship in memory of his parents, founding members or our parish and former St. Louise School parents. We are very grateful for Doug’s continued support for the past 15 years. This annual scholarship is given to one student entering the 6th grade who best embraces the same Christian values and personifies the essence of exemplary Catholicism which were embraced and personified by Dave and Darlyne Glaze. The Glaze scholarship recipient for the 2020–21 school year is: Katelyn Rabon.

VOLUNTEERS EXTRAORDINAIRE Every June, we recognize our Volunteers Extraordinaire — those who have a long history of going above and beyond in how much time and devotion they give to our students, staff, and school programs. Our award recipients are chosen from nominations we receive from school staff and fellow school parents. For the 2019–20 school year, our Volunteers Extraordinaire were Kristy Charles, JC and Anais Fawcett, and John Perreault. Kristy Charles Kristy has been an active volunteer in both our school and parish for more than 12 years. She supports our teachers and volunteers with Speech Team, coaches basketball and treats the Faculty. Kristy has been a driving force behind such programs as Hospitality, Social Events, and the Parish Picnic.

Anais has volunteered for everything from room parent to auction committees to speech team, while JC has been “Mr. CYO” since 2011, serving as our athletic board president. John Perreault John has only been volunteering at school for the past five years, but he’s been so noticeable to the teachers and students. He volunteers in the library and technology classes, and has helped with weekly reading groups and playground supervision. As one nomination for John commented, “He is a kind and humble man who does so much for not only his grandkids but also for the teachers and other students at St. Louise. He is just so faithful, positive and a beautiful example of a beyond dedicated granddad!”

Fr. Phil Wallace Tuition Assistance Fund Thanks to your generous donations year after year, the Fr. Phil Wallace Tuition Assistance Fund has grown to more than $2.3 million. Every donation over these past 18 years has made a significant difference in the lives of our students. The Above & Beyond Fund Our teachers truly went above and beyond this year, mastering new technology and rethinking how lessons could be taught virtually. Today, they are teaching remote and in-person learners at the same time. Plus, they maintain the rigorous protocols in place to keep everyone safe. To share our gratitude, we created the Above & Beyond Fund as the Fund-A-Need for the fall virtual auction. You came through — contributing more than $40,000 — and our teachers received a Christmas bonus for the first time. We are so grateful for your support honoring our teachers!

In December, we brought the spirit of our annual auction to you virtually with SKYBALL — Chargers are Forever, the Mix & Nosh. Led by auctioneer Stephen Kilbreath and emcee Curt Kruse, participants tuned in for a live cooking demonstration with Harold Donohue, Executive Chef at Ascend Prime Steak & Sushi. Chief Mixologist Chaz Lee showed us how to make a special St. Louise cocktail, and the infamous shaken, not stirred Vesper Martini. Congratulations to the Class of 2020 Our 2020 alumni saw their year change dramatically. After we celebrated them at a drive-in graduation and honored them in their homes with yard signs (instead of our usual festivities), they began their high school careers online. We are so proud of their resiliency and pray for their continued success.

Mrs. Bazan Retires St. Louise Parish School’s longtime secretary, Lola Bazan, retired this spring after 25 years running our school office. Known for her welcoming smile and gentle manner, Mrs. Bazan, highly regarded by the school faculty, students, and parents, is greatly missed by all. On her retirement and departure from St. Louise School, Lola said: “Working at St. Louise has been an honor and a privilege. I have had the most rewarding feeling of seeing so many stuents come and go, first as shy little Kindergarteners and then as the most confident and bright 8th grade graduates, including my own two daughters and now my own granddaughter who is in 4th grade. To all the school families, past and current, please know that I am so immensely thankful and grateful for making me feel so appreciated throughout all these years and for all of your caring love, support and understanding.” Lola continues:
