From the General Manager

Dear Members,

April has arrived, bringing with it a sense of anticipation and excitement around the Club that our team feels as well. After our two-week annual closure dedicated to deep cleaning and preparing the facility, we were excited to reopen on Tuesday, March 31. The timing couldn’t have been better, with Easter just around the corner and that unmistakable feeling of Spring in the air. Easter has always felt like the true beginning of the Club season to me, and I hope it does for you as well. During the closure, our staff worked hard to give every corner of the property the attention it deserves so that when you return, everything feels polished, refreshed, and ready for the months ahead. We look forward to welcoming you back.

Golf

April signals that the golf season is just around the corner, and before long the course will once again be filled with early morning tee shots, friendly matches among friends, and a few new stories made along the way. Whether you are heading out for a casual round, enjoying a game with friends, or simply spending time outdoors with family, it is always special to see the course come alive again. Here’s to a season of great golf, camaraderie, and many memorable days at the Club.

Racquets

As the weather warms, the outdoor courts will once again become a hub of activity. From friendly tennis rallies to lively pickleball games and families enjoying time together, the racquets area always brings great energy to the Club. Both sports have a wonderful way of bringing people together, and we look forward to seeing the courts filled with laughter, competition, and great moments throughout the season.

The Pool Countdown

One of the most anticipated traditions of the year will return soon as the pool prepares to open for the season over Memorial Day Weekend. The pool has long been the heart of summer at the Club. A place where families spend long afternoons together, friends gather poolside, and many of the season’s best memories take shape. We will kick things off with our Pool Opening Party on Friday, May 22 from 3–8 p.m., a great way to welcome the start of the summer season.

We have a wonderful season of events and activities ahead, and our team is fully committed to making every visit memorable.

Finally, on behalf of the entire staff, thank you for your continued support.

Sincerely,

General Updates

2026 Club Roster Update

As part of our annual roster preparation process, the Accounting Team dedicates the first eight weeks of the year to compiling and updating member contact information. This includes reviewing address and phone number updates submitted following our January mailing.

We are pleased to share that this process is now complete, and the 2026 Club Roster has been sent to print.

Rosters are expected to be mailed to each household in April. Each membership will receive one copy. Additional copies will be available at the front desk and may be charged to your member account.

Thank you for taking the time to submit your updates and help us maintain accurate records. If you have any questions, please contact the Accounting Office.

Field Bar & Course Restrooms

As we move into golf season, our team is putting the final touches on the Field Bar and on-course restrooms. We will notify membership via the SLCC Scoop once both are open.

Members can continue to order from the Field Bar through the app ahead of time – ensuring your order is ready when you arrive. Please note that golfers’ orders will take precedence during peak times to help maintain pace of play. We look forward to another great season at the Field Bar!

First Fridays Return This May

We are excited to welcome back one of the Club’s favorite summer traditions—First Friday Happy Hours—returning this May on the Oasis Terrace.

Join us on the first Friday of each month, May through October, as we gather to kick off the weekend with great company and a relaxed atmosphere. Each evening will feature complimentary hors d’oeuvres, with beverages available for members to sign for.

Our first First Friday of the season will take place on Friday, May 1, from 5:30–7:30 p.m. on the Oasis Terrace. We look forward to seeing you there as we begin another wonderful season at the Club.

General Updates

Polo Returns for the 2026 Season

We are pleased to welcome back another exciting season of polo at the Club. The 2026 season will begin on Thursday, June 11, with all subsequent matches taking place on Wednesdays. The opening match falls on a Thursday in alignment with the Annual Golf Invitational.

Matches will begin at 5 p.m. and run throughout the season from June 11 through September 30. No RSVP is required— members and their guests are welcome to join us each week.

Each match evening, a Polo Buffet will be offered at the Snack Bar for both polo attendees and snack bar patrons. Please note that the Polo Buffet will be the only dining option available at the Snack Bar during polo match evenings. Menus will be shared in advance each week via the SLCC Scoop.

We look forward to welcoming you back for another wonderful season of polo at the Club.

Lightning Detection in the Club App

As we head into the summer months, members can utilize the Lightning Detection feature within the Club app to monitor real-time conditions during inclement weather.

To access this feature, navigate to: Menu > My Club > Lightning Status, and be sure to enable real-time lightning detection.

The app provides a simple color-coded system:

Green – No lightning detected

Yellow – Lightning detected within 20 miles

Red – Lightning detected within 10 miles

This feature serves as an additional safety tool to help members make informed decisions and locate appropriate shelter during summer storms in St. Louis. While the Club’s lightning sirens will continue to sound, the app offers a convenient way to check current conditions at any time.

Please note that all lightning alerts apply to every area of the Club, including golf, tennis, and the pool.

From the Green

Spring is right around the corner, and we anticipate the number of rounds will pick up quickly as the weather warms. Here are a few items players can be mindful of to help keep our beautiful C.B. Macdonald–designed courseatreasureforall.

Golf courses require constant care to stay in good playing condition, and golfersthemselvesplayanimportantroleinmaintainingthecourseduring their round. While our course maintenance crew works hard every day, simple actions by players can significantly reduce wear and tear and help keep the course enjoyable for everyone. By practicing good etiquette and taking responsibility for the impact of their shots and movement around the course, golfers can help preserve our turf quality, maintain pace of play, andcontributetoabetteroverallexperience.

One of the most important things golfers can do is repair ball marks on the greens. When a ball lands on the green, it can leave a small indentation known as a ball mark. If left unrepaired, these marks can damage the turf and create uneven surfaces. Golfers should always carry a repair tool and fix their own mark immediately. It is also helpful to repair one or two additional marks nearby if time allows. Properly repaired ball marks heal quickly and help keep the greens smooth and healthy for the groups playing behindyou.

Replacing or filling divots in the fairway is another key responsibility. A divot occurs when a player’s swing removes a section of turf. If these areas are left exposed, the soil can dry out more quickly and the grass may take longer to recover. Please use the divot mix provided on carts or at the several divot bottle locations on the course to lightly fill the divot. This helps ensure the turf grows back quickly and provides a better lie for playerswhofindtheirballinapreviouslyplayedarea.

Raking bunkers after hitting from them is another important maintenance task. Footprints and swing marks left in the sand can create unfair conditions for the next player. Golfers should carefully rake the area where they played their shot, smoothing the sand and removing any deep impressions. The rake should then be placed as recommended, with the head of the rake slightly in the bunker and the handle leaning against the turfoutsidethebunkeredge.

Golf cart use also affects course conditions, so please follow posted cart rules. Staying on designated paths when required and observing “cart path only” signs, directional arrows, and roped areas helps prevent damage to the turf. When carts are allowed on the fairways, please avoid sharp turns or driving too close to greens and tees, where the grass is more delicate. Generally, carts should exit the fairway where directional arrows are placed,typically20–30yardsshortofthegreen.

By repairing ball marks, replacing divots, raking bunkers, following cart rules, and keeping the course clean, golfers can make a meaningful contribution to course maintenance. These small efforts require little time but have a big impact, ensuring the course remains in great shape for everyonewhoplaysit.

Gamma Alpha Nu – SLCC’s Golf Sorority for Girls

We are excited to welcome back one of our most fun traditions this summer - Gamma Alpha Nu, SLCC’s golf sorority for girls ages 5–11, led by Assistant Golf Professional Susan Fromuth.

Gamma Alpha Nu meets every Sunday from 4–5 p.m., beginning in April and continuing through mid-September. Each weekly “chapter meeting” is filled with the group’s signature traditions - including a secret password and handshake to enter, fun golf activities, friendly competitions, and, of course, candy and prizes. The combination of golf, friendship, and a little bit of sorority-style fun creates an atmosphere the girls look forward to each week.

Participants earn points for attending, wearing their Gamma Alpha Nu gear, and taking part in weekly activities. After earning enough points, they can redeem them for fun prizes. To encourage time on the course, the girls are also recognized for the number of holes they play during the week, with their earnings collected throughout the season and donated to a local charitable organization at the final meeting.

Throughout the summer, guest speakers - including local high school and college golfers and members of the SLCC community - visit the group to share their experiences and encourage the girls in their golf journeys. Many Lady members also volunteer as “Big Sisters,” spending time with participants on the course to practice and play, helping build confidence and friendships along the way.

New participants and Big Sister volunteers are always welcome. If you or your daughter would like to be part of Gamma Alpha Nu this summer, please contact Susan Fromuth at susan.fromuth@stlouiscountryclub.org for more information.
