GENERAL MANAGER What a summer it has been! From golf and racquets to summer camps and family activities, the Club has been busy, active and full of energy. It was especially fun to see so many members and families taking advantage of all that the Club has to offer. Our golf course has remained consistently active, and participation in our racquets programs and summer camps was equally strong. A successful Labor Day was a great way to close out the summer. As we move into fall, the opportunity to enjoy the Club doesn't slow down; it simply changes. We’ll transition to indoor racquets, the updated paddle tennis area and evenings in the Oasis Dining Room around the fireplaces. We’re also looking forward to the Fall Family Festival on October 11th. Before we know it, Thanksgiving and the holidays will be here, bringing another full season of family gatherings, dining and Club activities. A friendly reminder that immediately following the holiday season, we will begin replacing the hardwood floors from the East Porch through the Main Dining Room. This project will address the waviness and unevenness in the existing floors while improving the overall appearance and feel of these spaces. We will be sure to communicate further and provide updates as the project gets underway.

As the seasons transition and we head into fall and winter, our goal remains the same: to build on this momentum and continue making the Club a place where our members love to gather, interact and socialize throughout the year. Finally, I want to again thank you all for your continued support and participation. A busy, active Club is a great thing! Without your support, that simply wouldn’t happen. general Updates Holiday Hours at the Club Please note the following changes to the Club’s hours of operation throughout the holiday season: Thanksgiving Day: Club closes at 2:30 p.m. Christmas Eve: Club closes at 2:30 p.m. Christmas Day: Club closed New Year’s Eve: Casual and formal dining will be available; there will not be a New Year’s Eve event. New Year’s Day: Club closed Winter Sunday Hours From January through March, the Club will be open for dinner service only on Sundays. Brunch and daytime dining will not be available, and private parties will not be scheduled during the day. A receptionist will remain available throughout the day on Sundays to assist members by phone. Sunday daytime service will resume following the Club’s annual closure. Planning a Private Event? Fall and winter are busy seasons at the Club and popular dates fill quickly! Whether you are planning a holiday gathering or special occasion, members are encouraged to begin making arrangements early. To learn more about available spaces, menus and event options, please contact Event Managers Katy or Delaney. 2026 Employee Holiday Fund Contributions The annual Employee Holiday Fund pledge letter will be mailed to members in late October. Please keep an eye out for your letter. It has long been a cherished Club tradition for members to contribute to a holiday fund distributed among employees at Christmastime. This gesture allows members to express their appreciation for the staff’s service throughout the year. The Board hopes the membership will once again give generously to this special fund. There are three convenient ways to contribute this year: Mail: A stamped return envelope will be included with your pledge letter. SLCC App: Select Menu > My Account > Employee Holiday Fund. Email: Send your pledge amount to accounting@stlouiscountryclub.org. Your contribution will appear on your next monthly statement. Thank you for your continued generosity, and warmest holiday wishes from everyone at Saint Louis Country Club! Letters to Santa Beginning Tuesday, December 1, children may drop off their letters to Santa at the Front Desk—and best of all, they will receive a reply from Santa himself! A printable letter template will be linked in the Scoop, or copies may be picked up at the Front Desk. Please include your member number and a parent’s name somewhere on the letter so Santa knows where to send his reply. Holiday Decorations The Club’s Christmas decorations will be installed on Monday, November 30. Beginning December 1, members will be greeted by festive holiday décor throughout the Clubhouse. Decorations will remain on display through Monday, January 4. Annual Holiday Guide Our annual Holiday Guide will return this year! Scheduled for release in October, the guide will include details about each holiday event and everything members need to know for the season. Keep an eye out for it in the Scoop! Speaker Series: What’s New in Alzheimer’s Disease Research & Treatment Thursday, October 22 Cocktails at 6:30 p.m. | Presentation at 7 p.m. Dinner to Follow Join us for an informative presentation by Eric McDade, DO, Professor of Neurology at Washington University School of Medicine. Dr. McDade will discuss his research into the earliest signs of Alzheimer’s disease and the development of treatments that may prevent or delay its progression. He currently leads groundbreaking studies focused on individuals genetically predisposed to young-onset Alzheimer’s disease. A Club Table will be available. Strathalbyn Farms Club Annual Inter-Club Shoot Friday, October 9 | 1 p.m. Strathalbyn Farms Club The Strathalbyn Shooting Team will compete against teams from the RC, MAC, SLCC and OWCC, with the top five sporting clays scores counting toward the competition. Shooters of all abilities are welcome to participate. Following the shoot, participants are invited to enjoy drinks and appetizers with fellow competitors. November Events 2026 Thanksgiving Buffet Thursday, November 26 11:30 a.m.–2:30 p.m. Clubwide Adults: $70 | Children: $35 Gather with family and friends at the Club for an amazing Thanksgiving spread featuring holiday favorites prepared by Chef Paul and the culinary team. This popular event fills quickly, so members are encouraged to make reservations through the SLCC app. If your party size changes, please contact the Front Desk so we have the most accurate count. 8 2026 Thanksgiving To-Go Information Let the Club take care of your Thanksgiving feast! Whether you are hosting family or simply want to skip the cooking, Thanksgiving To-Go makes it easy to enjoy holiday favorites prepared by Chef Paul and the culinary team at home. Orders will be available for pickup on Wednesday and Thanksgiving Day from 10 a.m.–2 p.m. Members may request meals prepared hot or ready for reheating. All orders will include reheating instructions, and orders featuring turkey or tenderloin will also include a meat thermometer. Once ordering opens, members may place an order through the SLCC app or the Front Desk, either by phone or by completing an order form in person. Thanksgiving To-Go is always a popular offering, so if you have not tried it before, consider letting the Club handle the cooking this year! Watch the Scoop for the complete menu, ordering form and deadline.

The Spirit of Thanksgiving Thanksgiving is a time to reflect on the people, places and experiences that make life special. This year, we are sharing what some of our youngest members—and our adult members—have said they are most thankful for at SLCC. From Our Summer Campers During the final week of Summer Camp, counselors asked each child to write down something they were thankful for at the Club. Their answers were written on strips of paper and connected to form a paper chain. At the end of camp, the children presented the chain to our Events Team as a thank-you for a wonderful summer. It was such a meaningful gift that it still hangs in the Events Office today. Here are a few of their answers: “The Fourth of July!” “The diving board.” “The Snack Bar crushed ice.” “Our swim coaches.” “Family time.” “Jumping into the pool.” “The flowers.” “The cool air inside the Club.” “Tennis lessons and golf lessons.” “SLCC is my favorite place in the world.” From Our Adult Members Throughout the year, members have also shared compliments and comments through the SLCC app. Their messages recognize the staff, programs, meals and experiences that have made their time at the Club memorable. Below are a few of the things our members have appreciated this year: “The receptionists are always so warm and remember so much about us without our even having to ask.” “The Snack Bar and polo buffets made it easy for our whole family to enjoy dinner at the Club. Included in the SLCC archives collection is a large check ca. 1900 made payable to George G. Fairham & Bro. The check is SLCC check number 3191 in the amount of $15.75. The check was signed by A. L. Shapleigh and was drawn from the SLCC account at the Merchants-Laclede National Bank–St. Louis, Mo. Affixed to the check is a 2-cent battleship documentary stamp. George G. Fairham & Bro. was a wholesale produce business started on 5/1/1881 by George G. Fairham and his brother, Isaac. The business was located in downtown St. Louis at 419 Washington Avenue. Alfred Lee Shapleigh (2/16/1862–12/24/1945) was the first Treasurer of SLCC (1895–1902), a Director (1902– 1911), Vice-President (1918) and the seventh SLCC President (1918–1922). Alfred L. Shapleigh was active in the Shapleigh Hardware Company as Secretary in 1885, as Treasurer beginning in July 1901 and then as Chairman of the Board effective January 1, 1912. Alfred L. Shapleigh married Mina Wessel on 11/21/1888. They had two children, Alexander Wessel Shapleigh (8/22/1890–4/24/1972) and Jane Shapleigh.

A. Wessel Shapleigh would become a SLCC Treasurer (1928–1935), Vice-President (1937–1939), Director (1942) and the fifteenth SLCC President (1943–1946). Merchants-Laclede National Bank was located on the corner of 4th & Olive Streets in downtown St. Louis and came about as a result of the merger in 1895 of Laclede National Bank and Merchants National Bank. In October 1880, Alfred L. Shapleigh began his business career as a clerk in the Merchants National Bank. SLCC members who were directors of the Merchants-Laclede National Bank included David R. Francis, Julius S. Walsh and Lewis D. Dozier. The 2-cent battleship documentary stamp was a stamp issued during the Spanish-American War to raise federal funds to fund the war. The stamp was affixed to such legal documents as checks, certificates of deposit and mortgages. While the war lasted less than four months (4/21/1898–8/13/1898), the stamp remained in effect well into the 20th century. The war ended Spain’s colonial empire in the Western Hemisphere and secured the United States as a global power.

Polo Recap 2026

A Look Back at Polo Season Another polo season has come to an end at the Club! Wednesday evenings were a fun way for members, families and friends to spend time together, enjoy the family buffet and watch the action from the sidelines.

Thank you to everyone who joined us throughout the summer and helped make polo nights such an enjoyable Club tradition. We also want to thank Mr. Danny Orthwein and Mr. Logan O’Connor for announcing the matches each week and helping everyone follow the game. Of course, the season would not be possible without the players, horses, grounds team and Food & Beverage staff who helped bring everything together each Wednesday. Five Fun Facts About Polo Each period of a polo match is called a chukka and lasts 7½ minutes. Each team has four players on the field. A regulation polo field measures 300 yards by 150 yards—about the size of nine football fields. Players are assigned a handicap ranging from -2 to 10 by the United States Polo Association. Players typically ride a different horse during each chukka, and many polo horses are former racehorses that have been retrained for the sport. Thank you for another great season. We hope you enjoyed the matches, food and time together, and we look forward to seeing everyone back along the sidelines next year!

The 2026 golf season As another golf season begins to wind down, I want to thank our members for making 2026 such a great year at the Club. From the first rounds of spring through a busy summer of tournaments, lessons and everyday play, it has been wonderful to see so many members enjoying the course and participating in our golf programs. I am especially grateful for our Golf Shop team and everything they have done throughout the season. Their hard work, long hours and dedication behind the scenes helped make each tournament, clinic and event possible. We look forward to a great finish to the golf season and celebrating this year’s accomplishments with our end-ofyear awards, which will be featured in the Scoop. the Grounds Upcoming Bermudagrass Control Applications As we continue working to improve turf consistency and playing conditions throughout the golf course, our maintenance team will soon begin a targeted program to reduce unwanted bermudagrass in areas of cool-season turf. Bermudagrass is an aggressive warm-season grass that can spread into cool-season turf during the summer months. Once established, it can be particularly difficult to manage because it spreads through both above-ground stolons and underground rhizomes. Reducing it requires a thoughtful, multi-step approach. What Are We Applying? We will be using Pylex® Herbicide, a product containing the active ingredient topramezone. Pylex is labeled for use in certain cool-season turf situations to selectively suppress bermudagrass. Applications will be made by our maintenance team according to the product label and under appropriate weather and turfgrowth conditions. What Will Members See? The most noticeable effect following an application will be bleaching of the bermudagrass. Within several days of treatment, bermudagrass may begin turning white or pale yellow. This can be quite noticeable, particularly in areas with heavier bermudagrass populations. While the appearance may initially be concerning, this bleaching is an expected response to the treatment and indicates that the herbicide is affecting the bermudagrass. The desirable cool-season turf surrounding these areas should remain substantially greener, although some temporary discoloration or stress is possible. Why Are We Doing This? Our goal is to reduce the amount of bermudagrass established within our cool-season turf and ultimately improve turf uniformity, consistency, and playability. This is not an overnight process. Bermudagrass is persistent, and established populations often require multiple applications over more than one growing season to achieve a meaningful reduction.

We will monitor treated areas closely and make follow-up applications when appropriate. Timing is important, so applications will be scheduled based on bermudagrass growth, weather conditions, and the overall health of the surrounding turf. What Should You Expect on the Course? Members may notice white or discolored patches in treated areas during the weeks following an application. These areas may temporarily look worse before they look better. As the bermudagrass is weakened, we expect the desirable cool-season turf to gradually recover and fill in. We understand that any noticeable change to the course can generate questions. The short-term appearance is part of a larger, long-term turf-management strategy. Our focus is on reducing this difficult-to-manage grass while protecting the quality and performance of the turf we want to maintain. Applications are scheduled to begin in mid-October, following the U.S. Seniors event, when we will identify bermudagrass areas and map them using our GPS sprayer. Additional applications will resume in spring 2027, just as the bermudagrass begins to break dormancy. This timing will help minimize the bleaching effects and allow the coolseason turf to fill in. We appreciate your patience as we work through this process. If you notice treated areas during your round, please understand that what you are seeing is an intentional part of the program and not an indication that the turf has been neglected.

Mixed Member-Guest Invitational Peggy Dozier and Scott Sutter won the Mixed Member-Guest Invitational after a close final against Tom Horlacher and Jen McKeown. The players competed through both light and heavy rain, making for an exciting morning of tennis. Junior Inter-Club Success Our Junior Inter-Club Team won both the Country Club Cup and All-Club competitions this year. Charlie Felker and Jimmy Pipoli also captured the overall doubles title. Congratulations to all our junior players for their hard work and continued development! Mixed Member-Member Peggy Dozier and her brother, Kirk Baldwin, won the Mixed Member-Member Tournament. They battled through several close matches and saved a match point on their way to the title. All-Club Finals Mimi Schmid and Patti Hawes finished fourth overall in the combined men’s and women’s All-Club Finals. Congratulations on a great finish to the season! Parent/Child BBQ Tournament Jimmy and Nicoli Pipoli went undefeated to win the Parent/Child BBQ Tournament, defeating Jimmy and James Nowicke in the final. Mokie and Locke Carmichael won the Green and Orange Ball bracket. Congratulations to all our junior players and their partners! Pickleball Member-Guest Alicia Christopher and Chris Carpenter went undefeated to win the Pickleball Member-Guest Tournament, defeating Amanda Wellford and Gary Bussard in the final. Paddle Season Begins in October October marks the start of paddle season! Platform tennis is a great way for tennis and pickleball players to continue enjoying racquets as the weather cools. Played on a smaller court, the game features plenty of volleying and lobbing and continues to grow in popularity nationwide. Paddle Leagues Men’s Paddle League Begins in mid-October and plays on Monday and Tuesday evenings. Match times alternate weekly between 6–7:30 p.m. and 7:30–9 p.m. Ladies Paddle League Begins in mid-October and plays on Wednesday evenings at 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. Paddle Clinics Ladies Paddle Clinics Beginning at the end of October on Mondays and Thursdays: Beginner/Intermediate | 9–10:30 a.m. Advanced | 10:30 a.m.–Noon Men’s Paddle Clinic Beginning at the end of October on Saturdays from 8–9:30 a.m. Clinics include drills, point play and open games. Fall Racquets Events Advanced Pickleball Social Saturday, October 31 | 11 a.m.–1 p.m. Advanced players are invited to compete against players from other clubs as we close out the outdoor pickleball season. Partners will rotate each round, giving everyone an opportunity to play with new people throughout the event. Platform Tennis Courts During regular reservation periods, each family may reserve all four courts and the hut for up to four hours for a party. During holiday reservation periods, each family may reserve up to two courts for two hours. Holiday Reservation Periods: Thanksgiving | November 26–30 Christmas | December 22–27 New Year’s | December 30–January 1 Davis Court Each family may reserve the court for up to 1½ hours per day during regular and holiday reservation periods. Party reservations for the Davis Court and sitting areas are available during regular reservation periods but not during holiday reservation periods.

Thank You for Another Amazing Year! What an amazing year it has been at the Club! Every area has been full of activity, from a beautiful and busy golf course to a racquets program that continues to thrive. Our Swim and Dive Team also welcomed more participants than ever before, making it another memorable summer at the pool. By the end of 2026, the Club will have hosted more than 30 Clubwide events, along with memorable wine dinners, lively First Friday happy hours, game events and so much more. The enthusiasm and participation of our members have helped make this another exciting year at SLCC. From all of us at the Club, thank you for your continued support and for making SLCC such a special place to gather. We look forward to another lively year together in 2027.
