PRESIDENT’S REPORT I look forward to fulfilling my duties as the President of the State league this coming year. At the July meeting, the appointed positions should all be filled. In the past year, we have seen great progress on our web site and social media pages, plenty of local and state association meetings with great turnout, and great strides towards protecting our work from being done by unlicensed professionals. Our lobbyist, Sam Weinstein, along with the PPAG, Steve Rodzinak and Thomas Pitcherello are diligently working to address concerns with our legislation regarding the water heater bill, mandating time windows for inspections (item no. 5130), and to establish an approved SLMP apprenticeship program. To help combat unlicensed contractors, please create a record and report the grievance to the Division of Consumer Affairs (DCA) as well as to the State League along with any available supporting photos/documentation. We will work diligently to to get complaints filed for our members. Of course a reminder to check out updates on local & state associations and events on NJSLMP.com. We had 169 clicks on the web and 3.61K impressions in past month.We are also on Facebook & Instagram @ njslmp and have been working with our webmaster to update info on all fronts. If you would like to have us include/update any information be sure to reach out to me & I will be sure corrections are made. Please continue to try to utilize our sponsors with their technical support and knowledge of the industry. I have graciously accepted and in some instances depended on our vendors and sponsors for their services and input. This helps grow familiarity with the products along with the laws & regulations of our field. Larry Washington for Monmouth Association has been in the hospital for a round a week. Let keep Larry in our thoughts and wish for a speedy and full recovery. First Year Vice President Report Congratulations to Mr James F Becker becoming a lifetime member of the state League. Well deserved my friend and co pilot. Congratulations to the convention committee for an amazing time in Atlantic City. Liz and Billy and crew have out done themselves once again. Third Year Vice President Report Over the past year, I’ve often heard the phrase, “We need to do more.” I couldn’t agree more. Out of 5,000 Licensed Master Plumbers in our state, only 800 are members of this League. That number tells us that there’s incredible potential waiting to be tapped. We need to do more in expanding education programs, connecting with trade schools, and reaching out to the next generation of skilled plumbers. The current board and I are honored to serve, but we can’t carry the mission forward without you. Let me say it plainly: We without YOU is just ME. “Caught in a Trap” By Dimitri Checkur Ahhh Summer. Busy Boardwalks and Seaside Sunsets…Fire Pits and BBQ’s. Life is moving faster than ever, and Tradesmen work hard all Year long. We’re entitled to that well-deserved break now and then. “Everybody needs a little time away…” Sing it Chicago! “Even Lovers need a Holiday.” YES! Let someone else do the heavy lifting once in a while. By definition, a ’Holiday’ is a ‘Day of Festivity’ when NO work is done. Now that sounds refreshing. Realistically, Gas Piping to those outdoor Grills and Fire Pits works hard too…so I guess it gets a Holiday once in a while as well. Did he say Gas Piping? Yup! Holidays are also small holes or voids in the protective coating of metals like Gas Piping. The whole system is working together, snug and sound, but one small piece is on Vacation. The Term ‘Holiday’ is believed to have originated from painting the hulls of ships. Some poor Fella has the fascinating job of painting boat bottoms, and if he misses a spot, things like pH, low alkalinity, dissolved oxygen and pollution will all cause corrosion on a Holiday. It happens in both Fresh and Salt water, and temperature and salts in the air have higher conductivity and accelerated processes too. Ahhh…now let’s head on down to the Jersey Shore. So Picture this: It’s 11 PM on the first night of your Backyard Rental (only Plumbers who unethically hire a gaggle of non-Apprenticing ‘Helpers’ can actually afford to BUY any Ocean-Front Property). You’ve just rolled in after a long traffic jam in the cramped Minivan, secretly wishing you were “Far away, from each other…” You light the Barbie to grill up some Dogs, while the exhausted Wife and Kids unpack, and you step away to get some more ‘fixins’ (like Grain Alcohol). You hear an Explosion!! Let’s be brutally honest… after a Plumber assesses Life/Safety Concerns (and you’re done cleaning Weenie Pieces and Lava Rocks out of everyones’ hair), our next step is to always calculate the Financial Damage. We ask ourselves, “How much is THIS going to cost ME?!” In a Grill Explosion, I would immediately start my fume of the week! “Do you know HOW MUCH I’m spending for the entire Family to eat out EVERY Night at the Shore?! This is some %@#*in Holiday!!” Sing it Chicago! “Hold me now…It’s hard for me to say I’m sorry.” You see, Southside Jimmy NEVER Pressure Tests his Gas Piping. He brags that just a little Dish soap on the Threads is all he ever needs. Like some Plumbers, he’ll say he’s been doing it his way for 40 Years (and he’s only 41). Never has a leak. If you dare question him, you’ll hear some nasty Four-Letter Words! Well, here’s Four More Jimmy! Rust, Dirt, Dust and Salt. They attack small areas of missing coating on that Gas PIPING and become Foci for corrosion. Forget the Threads….did someone just say ‘Foci’? YES!! It’s the Plural of Focus, and it’s a GREAT Four-Letter Word for Gas Piping! Focus People. We’re talking about Explosions. You can always try to LOOK for Foci on Piping. I guess Jimmy could get a 5 Gallon Spackle-Bucket of approved test solution to sponge bath his entire Pipe project and find those Holidays (do the Foci-Pokey), but that would mean actually lying on the ground and getting his Surf shorts dirty. Or he could Air-Test it for 10 Minutes, and when it’s not holding, use the old stand-by, “It’s probably just a bad gauge…they’re Garbage these days. They leak on every job!” Now, Summer vacation is also a great time to do some light reading. We’ve all seen the shape Steel Pipe coating looks like after being ram-rodded into several trucks before being gently held by a Split-Ring Hanger. We’ve also just read about corrosive water and air being detrimental to metal. I suggest flipping through the Romance Novel ASTM G62 next. I just can’t put this Book down! When my Wife looks over from her Beach Blanket and says, “What are you reading about now, Honey, Fishing Excursions?,” I casually answer, “Even Better! Wet Sponges and Electrodes for Low Voltage Holiday Detection Methods of Thinner, Crucial Pipeline Coatings and Materials. Did you pack any sponges Sweetie?” I’ll even ask her to read a couple lines of ASTM G62 in that Parkway Traffic on the way home. She never asks me to mow the lawn when we get back, and we stay “Far away…from each other.” In closing, take some time for yourself this August. June and July have already been exciting. Legislatively, there are two new proposed bills; a 2 1/2 Hr Inspection Window Bill, and a Bypass the Municipality Entirely for a Third-Party Inspector Bill. I’m glad someone is always making sure to rush every part of Plumbing Safety these days. This way, those who have lots of Money can buy more Shore Houses AND First-Responders won’t be sitting home doing NOTHING all Summer! Thank you, Chicago, for reminding us of the importance of Holidays. Have a cookout and enjoy some light Summer Reading, like Instruction Manuals, or head on down to Atlantic City for the Plumbing Code Change Hearings on Aug. 14th. Like a Vacation, our old Code will be coming to an end soon. It goes by fast! In a few Weeks, we’ll be taking those ’No Heat Calls’. Please don’t forget your State League Meetings either. NJSLMP Officers and Committee Members drive all over NJ for those few, dedicated Members who “couldn’t stand to be kept away…” Sing it Brothers! Come visit us once in a while.

Chairman for Liason to Other Organizations Report I’d like to thank President Steve Bouer for appointing me committee chairman for liaison to other organizations. There are many organizations that can benefit our membership so I will do my best to bring us excellent connections to such organizations. The SBA can be a great tool for membership, there’s grant and loan opportunities, business plan writing courses, council and training opportunities especially for best business practices, they offer SCORE a program provides free mentorship and resources to small business owners. Government contracting training, which would bring me to Department of labor organization, as each county has a coordinator and main offices in Washington DC. Government contracting can be complex for a small business with the certifications, rules, regulations and record keeping to name a few. DOL also assist with plumbing apprenticeship sponsors which can be difficult to sift through if you’re not familiar with the process. Apex accelerators is another organization we can connect with as they help with guidance through government contracting. The Elks is an organization that comes to mind, as there are dozens of lodges across the state and they can help promote our organization to benefit members, they also work on assisting Veterans and children with special needs, which might benefit membership in different facets. Annual Inspection. Chimneys, ﬁreplaces, and vents shall be inspected at least once a year in accordance with the requirements of section 15.2.

Damaged or Deteriorated Liners. If the flue liner in a chimney has softened, cracked, or otherwise deteriorated so that it no longer has the continued ability to contain the products of combustion (i.e., heat, moisture, creosote, NFPA 211: 14.9* and flue gases), the liner shall either be removed and replaced, repaired, or relined with a listed liner system or other approved material that will resist corrosion, softening, or cracking from flue gases at temperatures appropriate to the class of chimney service. Size. The chimney or vent shall be resized as necessary to control flue gas condensation in the interior of the NFPA M1801.3.1 chimney or vent and to provide the appliance, or appliances served, with the required draft. For the venting of

oil-ﬁred appliances to masonry chimneys, the resizing shall be done in accordance with NPFA 31.

9/11 Rememberance in Allentown On September 11th at 7PM in Allentown NJ the 9 /11 rememberance committee will host it’s 2nd annual procession. The event consist of numerous groups like the Allentown HS marching band, local fire, first aid, EMS, and police, the Millstone Elks and the Elks MC as well as residents of Monmouth county walk a short procession along Main St to Sensi Park where speakers share their recollection of certain events of that tragic day. Followed by a candle launch vigil into the lake by the township Mayor. Names of Monmouth county residents that lives were lost are read aloud while flags are placed in the parks ground. Please join this procession as all are welcome to walk and view the speakers, candle launch and flag placement. If you were a member of rescue and recovery like myself, please let me know and we can recognize you at the event, or if you know anyone that lived in Monmouth county who passed on that tragic day also let me know so we can ensure their name is on the list to be remembered. July Meeting Minutes

Following Governor Phil Murphy’s signing of the Fiscal Year 2026 budget, the New Jersey Legislature is expected to begin its traditional summer recess. With the budget process now finalized, lawmakers are taking a step back from the State House after months of negotiations over spending priorities, revenue raisers, and last-minute policy additions. This annual pause allows members to return to their districts and focus on local matters, constituent services, and, in many cases, the upcoming election season. While the Legislature may be called back to address unresolved issues—particularly the wideranging implications of the so-called “Big Beautiful Bill”—many in Trenton anticipate that leadership will avoid reconvening unless it is absolutely necessary. With all 80 Assembly seats and the Governor’s Office on the ballot this November, most lawmakers would prefer to shift their focus toward campaigning rather than reengaging in potentially contentious legislative debates. As a result, any further action on major policy items may be deferred until after the general election.
