THE WYKEHAM GALLERY

The Wykeham Gallery has been very fortunate to have worked closely with Karl Martens for over 15 years. While Karl continues to paint he is also pursuing other personal interests. Therefore, going forward, he will not be producing work at a rate sufficient to satisfy and hang a one man show.

Having said that we at the gallery continue to buy Karl’s original work as it becomes available. Most of the work we leave unframed and most of it we seldom hang – not necessarily the most commercial approach to running a gallery, however, my attachment to his artwork is such that I am happy to continue to own an ongoing representative body of his remarkable work.

This catalogue is not therefore an advertisement for any form of a private showing of his work but just a window onto what we currently own. The prices for the original watercolours range from around £2,000 to £7,000. They are normally sold unframed although we are of course happy to arrange for the appropriate fra ming.

It is worth noting that Karl’s original watercolour work is never reproduced by way of a limited edition print. Original equals unique. Having said that Karl is currently working on the publication of two books – one featuring a collection of his original bird watercolours and the other his original animal watercolours. Several of the watercolours illustrated in this brochure will be reproduced in these two books.

This catalogue also illustrates examples of Karl’s lithographs which we hold in stock. Each lithograph is signed by Karl and numbered. Most of these editions have sold out and are unavailable elsewhere. The prices range from around £500 to £1,250 and the vast majority of them are float mounted and framed behind UV protective non reflective glass.
