We couldn’t be more excited for another great year of a Family Legacies sale. Mostly built around family, but we love legacies. We are pleased again to have Chance & Ashley Will of Will Cattle Company and Bert & Millie Moore of Mapleton Polled Shorthorns, include their offerings with us! New to the offering this year is a solid set of breds from our good friends in Illinois, Wise Shorthorns. These families are tried and true foundational success stories. We’ll say it again - through thick and thin, we appreciate those that continue to work with and support us. Paths might change, but there’s one thing that stays consistent and that is sharing our legacy with YOU! We aren’t here to chase any extremes, but to focus on balance with Genotype + Phenotype. We believe the combination of two create the ultimate view. The genetics we offer in this sale have stood the test of time. We have confidence these females will go out and produce for you for years to come. It’s a great time to be in the cattle business and an even better time to be a Shorthorn enthusiast. We pride ourselves in doing what’s best for the industry and the breed.
Special thanks to Collin Cory, his wife Theresa and baby Brinley “Tiger”. He does a ton for us and is employee of the month, EVERY month for the past 12 years...quite the record! He’s tried and true and sticks with us through it all; it doesn’t get much better to have someone like him around. As always, Mom and Dad are here to help put it all together in this village we live in. We all live busy lives and every day they put Family and Shorthorns first. Someone has to stay home to care for the animals while we travel many miles to shows, but they are always our biggest supporters; in person when they can for those close to home shows, or watching livestreams. We are extremely excited with our first set of Chosen One calves and this one is a big reason why. An April-born calf that comes to you a little greener, but don’t let that take anything away from her. I love this heifer’s body shape and dimension, she’s built right at the ground, flexible in her joints and her flashy color only adds to her appeal. If you’re looking for one for a younger showman, put a star by this one. Our 8-year-old, Krosby, showed her at the Iowa State Fair so she’s show ring ready. Give this one a little time, her best days are still ahead of her.
Another Chosen One daughter, this time out of DRM Myrtle Bo, a cow we purchased from Mitchell’s several years ago who has certainly earned her keep around here. We’ve had a lot of success with Myrtle Bo, and we think this solid red daughter carries on plenty of what we’ve appreciated about her. She’s feminine and attractive through her front end, bold in her rib and body shape, and exceptionally sound on her feet and legs. Her maternal sister sold in our 2025 sale to the Fogg Family in Indiana and went on to be named Reserve Champion Shorthorn Heifer at the Indiana State Fair. Another Chosen One daughter we’re awfully excited to see develop.

A young May heifer here that demanded to be put in the sale in terms of her build and presence. She only gets better from here. This heifer is an absolute peach, and we’ve enjoyed her since day one. She’s as gentle as they come, but there’s nothing timid about her build. She’s bold bodied, big-footed, loaded with hair, and has plenty of substance and power from end to end. She’s already proven she can hang a banner, being named Early Spring Heifer Calf Champion and 4th Overall Shorthorn Plus at the Iowa State Fair open show. We rolled the dice when we flushed Blue to DF Vegas, and we sure like how the cards fell. This one is flat powerful, big footed, jacked necked, and covered in hair, with the kind of presence that grabs your attention every time she walks in the pen. Terms: The terms of the sale are cash or check. Payment to be made to the clerk immediately following the sale and before the cattle are removed from the WCC Cow Palace. Purchasers or their representative must sign the bill of sale prior to leaving the sale site. Billed Accounts: All billed accounts are due within 10 days of the sale date. At 10 days, a 2% service charge will be added to the unpaid balance and an additional 2% will be added every 30 days thereafter unless previous arrangements have been made with the owners. Insurance will be available for your purchase. Contact Cindy Cagwin-Johnston at 217-370-6034. Health: Each animal will be represented by a state approved health certificate for interstate shipment. Buyers should make themselves aware of the health requirements for their respective states. All cattle have been vaccinated, de-wormed, and calf hood vaccinated. Breeding Guarantee: All cattle sell under the Standard Breeding Guarantee recommended by the American Shorthorn Association. Liability: Each animal will be at the buyer’s risk as soon as sold, but will be cared for by the sellers for a reasonable amount of time. Neither the owners, employees, auctioneer, sale manager or other affiliated personnel can be responsible for any accidents, but they will make every effort to provide for the safety and comfort of those attending.
Registration And Transfer: All animals sell with completed pedigrees and will be transfered to new owner once payment has been received. Trucking: The Family Legacies group will make every effort to assist you in your transportation needs to provide reliable and affordable transportation for animals purchased. Local trucking will be available. Phone Bids: Telephoned bids will be handled in a most confidential manner.
